The Ankler's awards editor, Katey Rich, thinks Hulu/FX's new dramedy Dying For Sex -- about dying, kink exploration, and friendship love stories -- might be in line for some awards love. Did the panel agree? Listen for our discussion, plus Holofcener vibes, useless men, and rooting for Dawson's alums. We went Around The Dial with The Amazing Race, St. Denis Medical, and Andy Kaufman doc Thank You Very Much, and Katey lured us onto the corporate jet of a third-season 30 Rock episode. Olivia Munn won, legendary TAR teams lost, and we found out which TV set elements are bigger than breadboxes in a special Katey Edition of Game Time. Invite Neighbor Guy over and listen now! GUESTS

It's a tight episode, content-wise with just Black Doves, Severance and Reservation Dogs officially on the docket, but we are joined this week, once again, by Salony, so you know there's a touch of class in this one! The show kicks off with Andrew peer pressuring Salony into talking about Black Doves on Netflix. It's a solid modern spy show, led by the excellent Kiera Knightley, and lacking the campiness that a lot of modern spy shows do. It's a cool take, with Kiera's character dealing with a little of that work/life balance we all hear about. Go check it out! After that, the show kicks into high gear with the intended content of the week, and the whole reason Salony showed up, Severance. The first episode of season 2 dropped this week and it's off to a great start. If you missed this show when it dropped a couple years back on Apple TV+, so watch it now! It's a very smart and trippy show with a lot to say about humanity. The gang even gets a little deep talking about it, so don't miss our convo, after you watch the show, of course! With the Severance talk over, Salony excuses herself to her night chambers, leaving the two fools to ramble on their own. Kevin starts on track with Reservation Dogs, a show that just dropped it's 3rd and final season on Hulu/FX. It's a show created, directed, staffed, and acted by a Native American crew. Technically Taika Waititi is a co-creator and he is Maori, but the sentiment is there. It's simply the story of 4 teenagers surviving modern life on a reservation. While often hilarious, it is also a superb drama that does a great job of enlightening folks of what life is really like for folks living on "the res." With all of the real content out of the way, Kevin and Andrew spend a little time waxing poetic about what is coming in entertainment this year and some hints about some cool things in the pipeline, potentially, for the podcast. So stay tuned!! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! As Marla Gibbs (look her up, Boomer. Did I get that right?) once said, “there's no place like home!” And she was obviously singing about Skokie, Illinois - home of a cookie cutter AMC Movie Palace so glorious, it rivals only Chicago's famous Esquire Theater, now home to a shuttered Dallas-based steak chain. (#Progress) Usually, Tony and T.J. only go on post-Bears game movie dates when it involves seeing the latest Marvel sequel to a Marvel sequel. (Turn up the volume on those explosions, projector man!) But a special field trip was made after a SEASON-TURNING BEARS WIN, to go see the limited, first ever theatrical release of Paul McCartney's “One Hand Clapping”. Is the film better on the big screen than tucked away on the “Band On The Run” Archive Collection DVD? Does the music rock even harder in the theater? What's the deal with popcorn prices these days, Obama? Tony and T.J. ask these salient and Soily questions, and also ponder from the backyard (of the theater):
They say all good things come to those who wait, and anything good is worth waiting for! We won't fully rescind that statement, HOWEVER....Tonight as we bring you a full review of the amazing show, The Bear season three, we can say we are at the very least conflicted by that statement. There are not enough good things to say about this show, and there are some flawed things. That being said, and maybe because of the awesomeness and ingenuity that is this Hulu/FX show, we left season three with heavy disappoinment. There were still some good things, but largely there were missed opportunities and nothing to latch onto. We are breaking it all down. Brian Tyree Henry and Kate Mara star in Hulu/FX's new series Class of 09. It's a big swing (three parallel narratives, past, present, and future, with the same members of an FBI class) with big themes (how we change with time, AI's role in crime-fighting, what kind of person it takes to be successful in law enforcement) that has come out with little fanfare and mixed reviews. Is it worth watching? I went in with an open mind, and found a lot to like about it, but also some questions. I'd love to know what you think.Trying to figure out, "What should I stream tonight?" No matter the artist who performs at The Super Bowl, there will always be a loud bunch who disapprove of the artist. Whether you were a fan or not of this year's performance, we break down, plus others from previous years. Rihanna has people buzzing not only because of her performance at the Super Bowl but because of what she said in an interview recently. What is it? We'll tell you!Michael B Jordan is back with Creed III the Rocky spin-off that is proven to be a big hit (pun & punch intended lol). The latest installment is here to prove it can stand on it's own. Although Rocky Balboa will not be in this one, we do feel the spirit of the Rocky movies are very much alive. We'll Get into it! Plus is this movie fit for Theatre or Streamer? Speaking of Michael B Jordan his ex, Lori Harvey has moved on pretty fast with rising star and lead of the hit show Snowfall, Damson Idris! Many people are calling him a young Denzel (when we say many people, we mean us...we're calling him that lol) We'll definitely get into that tea. Plus rap icon, Busta Rhymes had something done to him where he responded in a pretty aggressive way. But honestly he was right to react that way! What happened that created this situation...we'll get into that as well! We got some new music for you to vibe to this week & more! Now that the drama about who is to be the next Prime Minister has been settled, in the most undramatic fashion with an uncontested race for the Tory Leadership, the high drama remains on London Calling... Will Toby capitulate and join Team James in the WEF Globalist Conspiracy wing of the podcast? Oh, wait. Can we even use the word "globalist?" Welcome back if you're a return listener to this soundcast. If this is your first time in, welcome as well to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, where we offer you a weekly tasting platter of comedy soundcasts from around the internet for your ears. Bite-sized little clips that will, hopefully, tempt you to seek out the shows we're featuring in their entirety. I'm your host for Episode 274, Marc Hershon, but to keep up the frenetic pace of putting out a weekly show, I split the hosting duties by switching off weeks with Mr. Tyson Saner. And if you didn't catch last week's entry, Epi273, in which Tyson featured clips from Amazing Pop Culture Podcast, Life is Short with Justin Long, and WTF with Marc Maron. Don't despair, as you can still catch the episode on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, and wherever fine soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded. You can also grab it from our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where we have stockpiled our past 10+ years of comedy soundcast clippery and also interviews we have done over the past decade. Just a quick reminder that Tyson and I are currently (and always have been) clipping and presenting this array of soundcast snacks out of the goodness of our hearts. We so far have failed to lure any sponsors to this show, other than our freeloading fake advertiser Henderson's Pants, and it actually costs money to put this sucker out every week. We're not complaining – we love doing this – but what would be so super nice of you would be if you could show your appreciation for our efforts by rating and reviewing Succotash Show wherever you happen to be getting it from. A quick five stars, a couple of lines about how enchanting the show is – you're in, you're out, no one gets hurt. Thanks in advance – we really do appreciate your listenership and we hate to beg, but hey… I've got a full rack of clips to share with you this week, from comedy soundcasts For What It's Worth, Storytime with Seth Rogen, How to Survive! with Danielle & Kristine, and Movies to Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein. In addition, this episode is brought to you by Henderson's Pants new Beavertail Pants! CLIPS What Are You Watching?I'm going to kick things off with a special bonus clip! What makes it special? Well, I'm in it. That's right. It's me being featured as a guest on another soundcast. Hosted by past Succotash guest and friend of the show Chris Mancini, What Are You Watching? is Chris and a guest talking about what they're watching, mostly on TV but sometimes movies, too. So we've had Chris on, we've featured his soundcast, so all it took was a little begging and pleading to be invited to be the guest for his recent Episode 50. It was a nice change of pace to be the interviewee, and we had a great time talking about a bunch of shows. The clip is from our discussion of the Hulu/FX streaming show Y: The Last Man. Movies to be Buried With with Brett GoldsteinIf you're a fan of Ted Lasso, the big breakout hit on Apple TV last year starring Jason Sudekis – as I am, regardless of the pounding it's been taking from people this season – then you probably also love the character of Roy Kent. Portrayed by Brett Goldstein, Roy's a foul-mouthed contentious veteran footballer who becomes a foul-mouthed, slightly less contentious coach in Season 2. Brett started out as a staff writer on the show who lobbied Sudekis and the producers to let him play Roy and wouldn't you know? The guy's perfect. What I didn't know of, I'm ashamed to say, is that Brett is also a comedian and, what's more, has been hosting more than 160 of episodes of his own comedy soundcast called Movies To Be Buried With, with Brett Goldstein. He brings in a guest, explains that they've been killed in some manner, but the good news is that they go onto an afterlife where they get to explain their life through their favorite movies. Episode 121 featured guest Patton Oswalt and, as you can imagine, hilarity ensued. We have an ear peek for you… How To Survive! with Danielle & KristineNext up is a clip from the debut episode of a brand new comedy soundcast: How To Survive! with Danielle & Kristine. Every episode features hosts Danielle Koenig & Kristine Kimmel doing their best to help you figure out how to “survive the things that could kill you and the stuff that just makes you wish you were dead.” In their kickoff installment, it's how to both survive a wildfire and also, with the help of their comedic actress friend and guest, Alex Alexander, how to survive being fired. Our clip is from the first part, and jumps into what you should do if you're at home and can see a fire coming… Storytime with Seth RogenWe've clipped another soundcast that just kicked off in recent weeks: Storytime with Seth Rogen. Seth has a very funny and creative mind, and this is a pretty inventive show, with guests popping in an out as he unfolds someone's story that intersects with other people and becomes their story along the way. In his first episode, the story belongs to Quinta Brunson, a writer, producer, comedian, and actress. You may know her from her self-produced Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. But before she got into showbiz, she was a Jehovah's Witness, living a pretty buttoned up lifestyle. Until she was on a date in Phildelphia and happened to meet Paul Rudd, yes, that Paul Rudd, at the movie theater she was in. The impact of that encounter changed the course of her life. Our clip is from Seth's chat with Paul Rudd, who doesn't recall his encounter with Quinta, but does explain why he's so damn nice to people. For What It's WorthMurray Valeriano is a comedian and longtime soundcaster – you maybe heard his show Road Stories, where he chatted with fellow comics about mostly hell gigs – and we've met repeatedly during the five-year-run of the Los Angeles Podcast Festival. He has a new-ish soundcast up and running, which I reviewed last week for This Week in Comedy Podcasts for Vulture.com called For What It's Worth and, as Murray calls it, “the only music and comedy game show … that matters!” It's a fast-paced game show with a lot of opportunities for the comedian contestant to bust each other's (and Muraay's) chops while trying desperately to correctly answer music trivia questions. This clip is from a recent episode featuring Jimmy Pardo, Gary Brightwell, and Geoff Tate, and the opening round, called “The Rock Wall”. That's what you're going to hear, and a few other little odds and ends, on Succotash Epi274. Here's hoping you enjoy our clip harvest for this week, and that you are inspired to go listen to one or all of the shows we're featuring this week. If you're having trouble remembering the show titles or where you can find them, I invite you to slide over to our blog page for this episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where you'll find lovely little clickable titles for the show AND clickable Twitter or Instagram links for the folks involved in the soundcasts. Tyson Saner will be right in this same feed next week with Episode 275 which will likely have a new crop o' clips for you. In the meantime, try to treat everyone you meet decently, wear a mask if you're supposed to, vax if you haven't, and if anyone asks if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Eat dinner at a pasta-slinging, honky-tonk; Grab a ticket for Broadway because we finally can; Watch Y: The Last Man on Hulu FX
This week we watch two shows with a lot more in common than you'd think. Despite one being base don a true story, and one based on the iconic indie comic series. Both tap into Politics, the power dynamics between Men and Women, and both are associated with Hulu. Steve and Chris discuss their memories living through the Impeachment of Bill Clinton and their knowledge of the Y: The Last Man Comic series. All this, plus Crossovers and 30 second pitches.
Well almost one year ago I started this podcast only a few months into the first pandemic of most of our lifetimes. I was lost looking for something to do besides go on six mile walks. While I was always into movies and TV shows, it hit me, my college roomie was making a movie podcast, and I might as well channel my inspiration and ambition into some creative outlet. So Nick Nack Goes To The Movies was born. With it too came a fun albeit startling transition to more and more outright horror. I had dabbled with it before, but during the pandemic my need to feel something, especially something with a sense of sensory overload. The American Horror Story series was just the thing I needed, and a year later, with all the ish still going on, it was time for the Hulu/FX spin-off American Horror Stories to fill the void and be the topic of choice. Santa Trejo, Billie Lourd, a Murder House revisit, and more all on this latest AHS episode before Double Feature delights our airwaves!

“The sight filled the northern sky; as if from Heaven itself…they swung and shimmered loosely with more grace than the most skillful dancer.” ― Philip Pullman Ready to learn some science sh*t?? This week is our Science Moment and we're covering Auroras! This episode is a continuation to our Lightning science episode, SO LOOK FOR THAT! J. Daae goes solo this episode and breaks down the cause of auroras and how the colorful lights are created. This episode is extremely simplified so that you're better able to understand if you've never been introduced to these concepts before. This is a dense topic because it involves the atmosphere (ionosphere specifically), the sun and our gravitational field. All three of these need their own separate episode and they will be coming out SOON. On every episode J & Lesly feature something they're loving right now called a Double Feature. We call it our DOUBLE FEATURE because there's two of us and we wanna feature some sh*t ☺. Our Double Feature for this episode is the Netflix show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” and a docu series chronicling the struggle for LGBTQ+ civil rights in America from the 1950s through the 2000s available on Hulu/FX called “PRIDE”. 気を付けて (ki wo tsukete) !! —————————————————— Did we mention we made a Spotify Playlist? When it comes to contemporary sci-fi, Alex Garland sits at the highest level of Hollywood writers/directors/creators. Whether penning original ideas about humanity's undoing (“Ex Machina,” “28 Days Later,” “Sunshine”) or adapting bestselling books (“Annihilation,” “Never Let Me Go”) to his own specifications, Garland has had a hand in several of the most intriguing sci-fi and horror films of the past 20 years. This week, Be Reel studies most things Garland, with an emphasis on his screenwriting, leading to our forthcoming recap of his new Hulu/FX show "Devs.” Keep your eyes peeled for that shortly. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message
