You can find Holly Gramazio at her website https://www.hollygramazio.net/ or on IG at holly_gramazio When we first heard the premise of Holly Gramazio's novel The Husbands, we were intrigued. A woman's husband goes up to the attic to retrieve something and down comes…a different husband. Wouldn't we all sometimes like to exchange the husband we have for a better, newer, or just different model? Holly turned this idea into a novel that is both funny and thoughtfully considered. It may not, in fact, be such a great thing to have an endless supply of potential husbands so easy to exchange. Her book has been optioned by Apple Plus for a limited series and I just saw that Juno Temple, the actress who played Keeley in the Ted Lasso series, is slated to play the starring role. And because it is April, and April is National Poetry Month, we're discussing books related to poets. Not everyone loves poetry, but these books aren't actually poetry–so you can still partake of poetry month. They are historical fiction, memoirs, essays, and children's books written by or inspired by poets. We review the third and final (?) film in the series starring Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Juno Temple
Well, here we are. After 6 years, the Venom trilogy has come to a close... for now. Venom: The Last Dance has now hit theaters worldwide and for a long time, I have been very open that I am a big fan of these films because they're just fun! I've also always been a big Tom Hardy fan and these movies just really let him off the leash. As a huge Spider-Man fan though, I can't exactly say that these films' interpretation of Venom is what I always imagined the character to be in live-action, and it still disappoints me that we're still yet to get a truly definitive take on that character onscreen. Does Venom: The Last Dance provide the dumb fun of the previous two entires... or is this surpassingly the worst one yet? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review! Venom: The Last Dance: Directed by: Kelly Marcel Screenplay by: Kelly Marcel Story by: Tom Hardy & Kelly Marcel Based on the Marvel Comics Produced by: Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy, Hutch Parker Executive Producer: Joe Caracciolo Jr. Music by: Dan Deacon Cinematography by: Fabian Wagner Editing by: Mark Sanger Casting by: Bret Howe, Mary Vernieu Production Design by: Sean Haworth, Chris Lowe Costume Design by: Daniel Orlandi Cast: Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach Synopsis: Eddie and Venom are on the run. We welcome onto today's show Bella Gonzales, an accomplished director of photography whose remarkable work spans across several prestigious series. Bella is known for her exceptional contributions to episodic series such as FX's Fargo, Apple TV+'s The Big Door Prize, and Hulu's PEN15. Her unique vision and technical prowess have made her a standout talent in the industry, and her recent projects are a testament to her skill and creativity. On the show, Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir chat with Bella about: What lenses she uses, camera angles and working with different directors. She talks about what light means to story and why should pick your battles in prep and on set. We also dive into blocking, floor plans and not coming from a world of 'no'. We talk Alien, the new TV show she has just finished working on and what is like being part of history and we dive deep into the making of Fargo. For the new Apple TV+ series, Me, Bella was the sole director of photography for the pilot and all 10 episodes of this series, working closely with director Michael Dowse. Her role allowed her to set the show's visual tone, treating it with the care and precision of a feature film. For Fargo Bella also previously worked on season 5 of Fargo, where she built on her previous contributions to the series and her work and relationship with showrunner, Noah Hawley. She lensed episodes 3&4 of the new series which is out now on Apple TV+ and stars Juno Temple and Jon Hamm. Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box failures and decide if they deserve a second chance.Listener Request Month rolls on as Troy and Brad welcome back Sammy of the GGTMC to take on one of the most intense films the podcast has ever covered. This week, we're headed to the trailer park with a big bucket of the Colonel's famous chicken in hand to dive into the 2011/2012 Southern Neo-Noir, Killer Joe. Brace yourself—this film is not for the faint of heart. It's brutal, violent, and pushes boundaries, fully earning its NC-17 rating. The gang covers everything from the best fried chicken to Matthew McConaughey's chilling performance, and even debates if this might be the movie that broke the Movie Guide scale. Killer Joe is unforgettable, but definitely not for everyone—proceed with caution.Killer Joe is directed by William Friedkin and stars Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon, and Thomas Haden Chruch. On the twenty- eighth episode of ATFT, cinematographer Josie Cruz joins me in analyzing (and solving) Jaco Van Dormael's 2009 film Mr. Nobody as it celebrates its 15th anniversary! This episode is spoiler filled. Mr. Nobody is a sci- fi fantasy film that explores the butterfly effect by portraying the story in a non- linear structure. The film follows Nemo Nobody (at various points in his life from pre- birth to 118 years old) who, at nine years- old, is faced with an impossible decision when his parents divorce: should he live with his mother or his father? Through his contemplation, we see the many different life paths he would have through either decision… adding up to about twelve different lives. It is a beautiful film viewed through a child's eyes about indecision and committing to decisions while also exploring scientific concepts like the Big Crunch theory. The film stars Jared Leto, Diane Kruger, Sarah Polley, Juno Temple, and Rhys Ifans. Mr. Nobody has become a hidden gem, possibly because it was not released in the US. Mr. Nobody is a very confusing film. It is challenging to follow and possibly even harder to articulate in discussion. At times I felt as though I failed at explaining and hypothesizing this film since I wasn't sure I was making sense. I hope those who have seen Mr. Nobody are empathetic towards this and, as Josie suggests, maybe us trying to talk about this film makes the episode even more enjoyable. This is Josie's second appearance on ATFT! Josie was a guest on the Past Lives episode released last December. Not only do I regard that episode as one of the best ATFT episodes released thus far, I was stunned by Josie's analytical takes when dissecting the film. She has become one of my favorite people to analyze films with. As we discuss in the beginning of this episode, there are some similarities to Past Lives and Mr. Nobody, which is exactly why I wanted her to join me in discussing this beautiful, complex hidden gem. This episode was recorded on August 22, 2024. Josie is a Jacksonville- based cinematographer who has been streaming live, under the username jojigami, on Twitch for four years now! She streams fun video games such as Until Then with realistic interactive characters in a truly extraordinarily designed visuals and music. As someone who has joined her for two streams, it is really fun to watch Josie play these games while interacting in the chat. Click this link, https://www.twitch.tv/jojigami, to follow Josie on Twitch, watch her past streams, and leave a donation on her “About” page! Keep listening until the end of the episode to learn more about Josie's Twitch streams and when you can join her livestreams! In this episode, Josie and I attempt to understand Mr. Nobody while also analyze the deeper meanings underlying the film. We also make comparisons to other films. While Josie compared Mr. Nobody to Everything Everywhere All at Once, I compared the film to Tenet. Josie also talks about her personal resonance to the film, why she liked probably- unlikable character Elise, and her favorite of Nemo's many possible life paths. Alexis Hejna, Dorian Price and Mark Radulich present their The Offer Miniseries TV Show Review! The Offer is an American biographical drama television miniseries created by Michael Tolkin and developed by Tolkin and Nikki Toscano for Paramount+. Ruddy. Armie Hammer was cast to play him in December 2020, but dropped out the following month; he was replaced by Miles Teller in May 2021. In April 2021, Dexter Fletcher was hired to direct several episodes. Zien we Ripley ooit terug? Fans blijven nieuwsgierig of Ripley ooit terugkeert. Krijgen we Ted Lasso seizoen 4? Warner Bros. This week we're taking a look at two films from Gregg Araki. One of the architects of the New Queer Cinema movement of the 1990's, Araki pivoted in the new century after finding critical success with Mysterious Skin. He followed up that award winner by pivoting to a stoner comedy that Max argues is worth revisiting every April 20. Say Hi!

The Netflix series “Baby Reindeer” written by Scottish comedian Richard Gadd based on the true story of a period in his life when he was stalked by a woman whom he gave a free cup of tea while working as a bartender in London, has been burning itself into the eyeballs and psyches of millions of people. Lisa was fascinated by the hit show's unflinching honesty, style, structure and incredible performances by both Gadd and Jessica Gunning. Joining Lisa and Dean to break it all down is another incredible actor, David Rysdahl. You may remember David from this season's “Fargo”, playing sweet “Wayne” the husband of Juno Temple's “Dot”. His other credits include “Oppenheimer”, “Black Mirror” and he is currently shooting Noah Hawley's new “Alien” series in Bangkok. David shares his reaction to “Baby Reindeer” and the aspects of Gadd's character “Donny Dunn” that he identifies with. David performed for years in New York as a clown and was part of the “alt” comedy scene. We talk about Hollywood predators, the insecurities of fame…and so much more. Join us for the conversation.
