I invited producers/directors Cody Calahan and Chad Archibald of Black Fawn Films and Black Fawn Distribution to chat with me at the Cotton Factory about creating content in a time where there's never been more demand for entertaining things to watch. We talk about their recent productions The Oak Room and Vicious Fun, Canada's place in the content and genre film world, and the most important things for new filmmakers to focus on. As this was recorded back in February, some of the production timelines we discussed have changed, but it's refreshing to listen back to a time in the not distant past when the film world was functioning at high speed. So you know who voice is whose, the 1st one after mine is Chad, followed by Cody. He was that kid. The kid responsible for calls from irate parents, fuming because their now terrified children had watched horror movies at his house. He didn’t see the issue. He loved these films, even if he was only in the 2nd grade. Little did Chad Archibald know his passion would later become so much more. While in college he and some buddies had a random idea - let’s make a film! A seasoned producer warned him not to waste his time. He chose otherwise... Now Chad’s horror movies are known worldwide, scaring record amounts of people and credited for one of the most epic ‘falling ovations’ ever. Don’t know what a ‘falling ovation is’?

Der überaus sympathische Kanadier berichtete u.a.

Synopsis: While on her bachelorette party getaway, Casey, the bride to be, gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect. We speak to Bite writer/director Chad Archibald about making this movie and making people puke up at Fantasia Film Festival. 3.35PM - MONDAY 31ST - UK PREMIERE - BITE Discovery Screen 3 Report on the Bite from Fantasia: http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3355622/ambulance-arrives-fantasia-viewers-experience-bite/ Podcast from www.britflicks.com "Carefree" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Gaslamp Funworks by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a CC Attribution 3.0. incompetech.com/music/royalty-fre…isrc=USUAN1100826. Bite star Elma Begovic and director Chad Archibald discuss the new movie, Bite. After a bachelorette party, an infected bug bite causes Casey (Begovic) to exhibit insect-like symptoms a la Gregor Samsor in Metamorphosis but with a twist. According to IMDb, "Between her physical transformation and her wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent eggs, but feeds on the flesh of others..." There was a sold out screening in Montreal (Fantasia Fest) where barf bags were handed out and two people reportedly fainted. Elma talks about moving to Toronto and the unconventional way she scored the lead role in this horror flick and what inspired her role's ticks (physical ones, not the bugs) . Director Chad Archibald's fiancé's sister returned from a Guatemalan trip and was overcome with random bug bites. And we learn that this spurred the film's genesis. We also chat about how the icky effects for Bite were created. For more, see this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4264426/
