You wouldn't after listening to this episode of HoosWhere with star athlete turned real estate investor Emily Fraser!  Here's some impressive bits about her: Emily, a former women's tennis player at the University of Virginia (UVA), was recruited to play for the school's team because of her impressive skills on the court. But that wasn't all. Emily wasn't just a slam dunk in athletics — she also excelled academically, choosing UVA for its strong academic program and as a backup plan in case her professional tennis career didn't get her the success she hoped for. Despite tennis being her whole identity — both her parents were tennis players + she's been playing the sport since four years old + she literally breathed tennis her whole life — she wanted to see where her interest in medicine could take her. Hence the decision to study Sports Medicine, Kinesiology to be specific. Years later, Emily decided to take the entrepreneurial path, one she knew was her way since long back, and pursued real estate full-time. She's now "serving" up a different kind of success in Pittsburgh, taking the residential real estate market by storm as a sales pro and building her own dream team of agents. Emily works with Piatt Sotheby's and has already scored over two and a half million dollars in sales in her first full year in the business. But don't trick yourself into thinking she gave up tennis forever. Emily hasn't completely retired from the tennis world; she still enjoys hitting the courts for a leisurely game with friends and former students. Her background in sports medicine and kinesiology from UVA gives her the perfect "forehand" in both athletics and real estate. So if you're an athlete or sportsperson wishing to know if there's a career for you beyond your sport, you'll find the perfect friend and inspiration in Emily! Do you seem to have the same issues with turn year after year? Are you still using paper lists? And communicating with vendors in a fragmented way? What if you could use a proptech platform to streamline the process, making turn season (and many other aspects of your student housing operations) run much more smoothly? CEO Chase Minnifield and COO Lincoln Ogata are the cofounders of EZ Turn, the world's first property project management software. The EZ Turn web portal and mobile app helps student housing professionals manage the day-to-day operations of their facilities, including the turn process, quarterly inspections, scheduling and communication with students and service providers. On this episode of Student Housing Matters, Chase and Lincoln join host Brittany Pieper to discuss the challenges the student housing industry faces in terms of maintenance and operations and describe how sites of any size can benefit from EZ Turn technology. Chase and Lincoln explore why the current generation of students demands more from operations teams, offering advice on how to communicate with residents and give them an avenue to air complaints. Listen in for Chase and Lincoln's insight on automating the turn process and leveraging proptech data to make it faster, easier and more efficient! On July 1, 2020 the NCAA passed legislation to allow student athletes to receive monetary compensation for the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness or more commonly referred to as NIL.  This has open up a world of opportunities for student athletes and it's also giving student housing providers a unique opportunity to hire student athletes to promote their community.  But is it as easy as it sounds? In this episode we share a recent webinar where we discussed NIL with those that are closest to It.  Our panelists included Darren Heitner with Heitner Legal, Jason Bergman with MarketPryce, and Mike Blewitt with CSMG. Wes and Gretta also sit down with former NFL player Chase Minnifield of EZ Turn to talk about his perspective as a former student athlete and what student housing operators should think about when making an NIL offer to a student athlete. Happy March, everyone! The sun is out at 1050 Lane Allen Road and spirits are high. We took a bit of a turn for our March podcast. Instead of inviting someone in to share the microphone with me, I want to share with you an assembly we hosted for Black History Month. We asked several of our African American alums to Zoom in with our current students and discuss a person in history that has been influential and inspirational to them. The assemblies were informative, educational, and really enjoyable as we experienced our alums connecting with faculty and students. Chase Minnifield ’04, MaKayla Brown ’16, and Kamron Cox ’06 met with our middle school students. Jade Wright ’12 and Shaun Anderson ’14 met with our fourth and fifth-grade students. I hope you enjoy the talks as much as I did. Here are some relatable resources referenced in the assembly discussions. Episode show notes... Do you fully trust you abilities? Your first hurdle is hesitation, that’s being fed by your doubt. But if there is a burning desire and a voice inside of you that says “You can do more and be more valuable than who you are today”, you must trust your instincts because that will lead you to a life of fulfilment, impact and financial success.  Today’s guest is a testament to this. He is a former defensive back for the Washington Redskins and a serious entrepreneur with proven track record who was recently inducted into the 2019 class of Forbes 30 under 30 - the man who gave up football to become a mentor, influencer, and now a successful entrepreneur - Helping Hand and EZ Turn President, Chase Minnifield! Like most NFL players who have the tendency to go broke after 2 years, Chase worried and got tired of waiting for a call to cement his place in the league. And so he decided he’s got to do it on his own. Chase Minnifield has created a monumental software - the first and only mobile app specific to the student housing turn season.  When you trust yourself to fill a purpose and a need to provide opportunities to make people’s lives easier, you can achieve anything and realize you can do more outside of your comfort zone! Join us in today’s podcast and find out how Chase was able to do just that by racking up over $1M in invoices with his vendor management digital platform, EZ Turn, in just his FIRST YEAR! In this episode you will learn... How entrepreneurship like sports requires self-trust, discipline, resilience and self-confidence Why you need to surround yourself with motivated people determined to change their lives  The qualities every great leader must have Why you need to overcome your limiting beliefs Quotes: -> "Don't be afraid. Fear is causing us to lack imagination" -> "I want to hit this bump as fast as I can and not let this bump slow me down or push me back, so I can keep going" -> "Get around people that motivate you"   Question:  Are you ready to be a person who goes against the grain and makes a difference in the world?
