In today's Part 2 of a 2 part Series; I'm going to dive deep into my personal story. This was really hard for me to share; but I also know that when I share my story with others - it empowers those who can relate to see how powerful they really are. April is Child Abuse Awareness month and in today's episode; I want to share with you the experiences that made me who I am. My childhood is why I'm so passionate about teaching others the importance of protecting your energy, following your dreams, and trusting your intuition above all. I spent years of my life; trying to protect the people I loved by being silent but it ended up causing me a lot of emotional and physical pain that transformed into health issues and it never gave me the validation or love I thought would come if I maintained my silence. What I've learned is that Child Abuse survivors carry so much shame & they seek to protect those who have hurt them - and so they rarely come out and speak the full extent of their experiences and how it shaped them. And so I want you to know - my story, so you can see what is possible for you and anyone that you love who has faced this. TRIGGER WARNING: Mention of suicidal ideation, self harm, child abuse, spiritual abuse, and domestic violence

Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention. What is considered Child Abuse in the State of Florida. How can parents Prevent Child Abuse.
On this episode of the CCW podcast we have Major Brian Rafky. Major Rafky is joining us at a very important time since Citizens Crime Watch is acknowledging Child Abuse Awareness month, where we spend the entire month of April advocating for child abuse prevention. Being the Major for the Special Victims Bureau, Major Rafky is the most qualified person to speak on such a heavy subject. We touch on the different forms of child abuse, ways to identify any signs, and how to prevent it. Here at CCW safety and awareness are some of our top priorities, so for the month of April Citizens' Crime Watch will be participating in the National Child Abuse Prevention month. Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S each year. An estimated 678,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect in 2018. That's about 1% of kids in a given year. Each week we'll be highlighting one of the four major forms of Child Abuse; Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Neglect, and Emotional Abuse. Each post will contain a detailed overview of each type, the ways to identify them and how to help. If we as a community work together and spread awareness we can help the lives of so many children across the United States. The federal Paycheck Protection Program is extending its second draw loan window. We hear from the Bankers' Association on where the aid is going. Then, in recognition of National Child Abuse Awareness Month, we examine the roots of issue and how Mississippians can help.Plus, faith leaders respond to the new Georgia voting laws and comments made by a Mississippi Senator.Segment 1:Mississippi businesses still struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic are getting an extension to apply for loans through the Paycheck Protection Program. The program subsidizes businesses that have lost revenue because of the pandemic, and if applicants provide proof that revenue was lost, the loan will be forgiven. This is the second draw of relief loans- after high demand for the initial allocation in the spring of 2020 cause the fund to run out. Gordon Fellows, with the Mississippi Bankers Association, says the second round of the program includes better fraud protection and opens the door to sole-proprietor businesses.Segment 2:Experts are concerned that many cases of child abuse in Mississippi are not being reported. Around 10 thousand children in the state are victims of abuse each year, but not as many cases are being reported during the coronavirus pandemic. Mississippi's Child Protective Services Commissioner Andrea Sanders says more children are staying home because of the pandemic. She tells our Kobee Vance, the drop in reported cases is actually a cause for alarm.Segment 3:Pastors in Mississippi are joining a national effort condemning comments by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith against early voting on Sundays, and rebutting Georgia's new voting laws. During a U.S. Senate hearing on a Democratic-sponsored bill to expand voting rights, lawmakers began discussing a recent law in Georgia that prevents early voting on Sunday. After church, Black congregations go to the polls together to cast their votes. Reverend Jeffery Gladney of Red Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Tupelo says preventing Sunday voting is voter suppression. He tells our Kobee Vance he signed a petition along with more than 11 thousand nationwide asking Hyde-Smith to reverse her statements.. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Justice was only four months old when he was killed by his mother's boyfriend in January 2007. The much-loved baby boy with his deep blue eyes and hearty laugh left behind a devastated family. Despite their overwhelming grief, the family was determined to do something good in honor of baby Justice and his memory. For years they worked desperately to change Maryland's law to increase the maximum sentence for the conviction of child abuse leading to death. Justice's Law, which passed in 2016 and was part of a criminal justice reform bill, increased the law to 40 years to life. They also established a fundraising effort with the annual Rock Me Don't Shake Me concert which benefits mothers and children. On this episode of The Human Condition with Lisa Gregory we talk to Justice's mother, Ashley Rutherford, and his grandparents, Dee and Nink Myers, about their "biggie boy" as they lovingly called him and how they turned loss and pain into hope. All in the name of Justice.

Tonight's special guest is Dale Hemming, a returning NAASCA family member from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Among numerous other issues for Dale is the safety of our children and child abuse. Tonight he'll be sharing about his current billboard campaign that features images and messages concerning Child Abuse Awareness month (in April). Dale leads the effort at Sioux Falls Free Thinkers where the motto is 'Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent!' The web site says, ".. all those with open minds are welcome. Free Thinkers are those that want a world without rules and controls on thought, without mental borders and boundaries. A world where anything is possible." Dale, now in his 70s, became a feminist in 1960 while he was in high school. In college he went further. "I was a campus radical and civil rights activist fighting against the Vietnam War, racism, and for women's rights and gay/lesbian rights," Dale explains. "If one looks at the appalling statistics and facts on child abuse you will understand my involvement in the issue," Dale says. He's addressing these issues head on, and at his own expense. "I believe we need to stop hiding the ugliness of child physical and sexual abuse." His billboard images and wording are as explicit as freedom of speech allows. Dale has appeared on our show many times, always sharing about the terrific work he's doing for his home town. One of our most dedicated volunteer contributors, there's no question Dale is one of our NAASCA family's true heroes !!
SPECIAL TOPIC Night - On this New Year's Eve, we'll pause to give expressions of our good wishes and hopes for the upcoming year. We're grateful for our recovery from child abuse and trauma, and express our desire that we can be effective in our mission .. Millions of abuse victims (men and women) hide the story of their experience well into adulthood. A huge number continue to suffer from pain, anger, fear, shame and embarrassment for decades. SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "For Our Kids" - Deborah Maddison and Tracy Baxter, Canadian activists from British Columbia, will join Bill Murray to lead this evening's discussion about the Rights of Children and Families in North America. Tonight's TOPIC: Predators in Positions of Power - As many of you may already know, April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. While we're glad that we're shining a light on such a serious issue this month, the reality is that this should be a priority every day of the year. We will be looking at what we consider to be one of the worst types of child abuse. Childhood sexual assault is steadily growing despite increased awareness, particularly by those in power who are supposed to be the ones protecting our children. What we found when we looked into this was beyond shocking. Joining us this week will be Dr. Lori Handrahan, an Investigative Journalist and Dr. Jim Singer, a mandated reporter. We'll also have members of the International group Op Death Eaters. One of the main goals of the Op is the the collection of as much factual evidence pointing to the existence of an international paedosadist industry and sharing this information through numerous country and region-specific Twitter accounts that can then be used in legal proceedings. In addition, we also welcome back panelist Eugena Couture, author of Adoption Not An Option. This is one discussion no one should miss.~~ Every two weeks a new THEME will be presented in this series, with frequent special guests speaking from their own experience. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/ForOurKids or write to: naasca.forourkids@gmail.com

Join our founder and host, Bill Murray, and his co-hosts, panelists and guests, many of them abuse survivors, others supporters, National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse family members and friends, for an informed 90 minute discussion of the many important issues that surround child abuse .. where community call-in participation is always welcome! Wearing a Blue Ribbon is the symbol of Child Abuse Awareness! Millions of abuse victims (men and women) hide the story of their experience well into adulthood. A huge number continue to suffer from pain, anger, fear, shame and embarrassment for decades. Most will agree their traumas have resulted in an inability to trust, make good decisions and have healthy relationships. But giving up the secret is often how recovery begins, one survivor talking to another. ~~ Please see our web site at: www.NAASCA.org
