With Pope and Milk out, Bison, House, and Rooster kickoff a fiery episode dominated by the fallout from a wild MLB trade deadline. The crew breaks down the biggest winners, like the Mariners and Phillies, and the most aggressive movers, like the Padres, who mortgaged their future for a serious "win-now" roster. This sparks a larger conversation that contrasts the success of low-payroll, well-built teams like the Brewers and Marlins with the struggles of high-payroll, undisciplined squads like the Yankees, who have one of the worst records in baseball since June 1st. A quick mention of one of our sponsors... the show would not be complete without Injury Board, an exclusive networking and marketing firm that connects and refers cases among the best plaintiffs' lawyers in the country. If you're a leader in your community and at the bar, consider checking out InjuryBoard.org for membership and referral opportunities. The conversation also touches on an injury scare for Shohei Ohtani, and a new MLB attendance record set at Bristol Motor Speedway. The second half pivots to fantasy football, where the guys (reluctantly) offer strategic advice for drafting wide receivers and tight ends, debating the value of top-tier talent versus finding sleepers in a deep pool of players. House brings up a fascinating look at the surprising real-world influence of Madden NFL video game ratings on players and even front-office decisions. Also, if you're looking for a company to develop your website and digital marketing, Digital Law Marketing offers exclusive regional partnerships, unlike other companies that might prioritize marketing competitors. Their proven results have led to significant increases in organic originations. Go to DigitalLawMarketing.com for details.Punches will go to the Pirates and the Yankees, and they share a "lasso" moment regarding the Twins for a classy gesture of goodwill. The guys wrap it up with a heartfelt pour out for the late Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.Special thanks to Assembly Software is a huge part of how the guys keep this show going. It's known for its leading case management product, TrialWorks, and its cloud-based solution, Neos. Neos allows law firms to access everything on the road and now features an AI program to enhance efficiency in tasks like drafting letters. Check out AssemblySoftware.com for more information.

The post-trade deadline MLB season got off to an inauspicious start for the New York Yankees as they flew down to Miami and got swept by the Marlins. That was the first time in franchise history that the Marlins swept the Yankees. Miami is now back to .500 while the Yankees have fallen to third in the AL East. Although New York still owns one of the coveted Wild Card spots, is Aaron Boone's seat starting to get a bit warmer? Jake and Jordan discuss this, what is going on with the Yankees and if they still look like they can be a postseason contender.Feeling the exact opposite of the Yankees right now is their bitter rival, the Boston Red Sox. Boston spent the weekend cleaning up Fenway as they swept the Houston Astros. The Red Sox now sit atop of the AL Wild Card race and just three games back in the AL East. The Milwaukee Brewers were the third and final sweep of the weekend as they took care of the Washington Nationals. How are both the Brewers and Red Sox looking as they inch closer to the postseason? Is Jacob Misiorowski going to the IL as big of a deal as it may seem? The guys dive into both of these series. There was a baseball game at a Nascar stadium this weekend. The Cincinnati Reds played the Atlanta Braves at Bristol Motor Speedway. The game finished up on Sunday after Saturday saw it get rained out in the first inning. Although the pomp and circumstance, complete with a Home Run Car, was dampened by the rain, the spectacle was still a sight to behold as the Braves took down the Reds. Rubbin' is Racin', Boys! The Braves had another exceptionally lackluster week overall, with a total nothing burger at the trade deadline. However, there was a little fun to be had at Bristol Motor Speedway as the Atlanta Braves won the Speedway Classic and Eli White built out more of his Atlanta Braves lore. When your grandchildren ask, Where were you when Eli White hit two taters at Bristol Motor Speedway?.... What will you say? I try not to rant too much about the lack of movement at the trade deadline, and I talk a lot about Bristol. I'd like to hear your opinions on that too, and we'll discuss it further next week! Thanks for listening! Support the show

Welcome to Tablesetters Episode 97. This week's show looks back on a 2025 MLB Trade Deadline that completely reshaped the landscape, with contenders making aggressive moves and several teams signaling a shift toward the future. Before we get started, a big thank you to everyone who joined us for our first live broadcast on Twitter and YouTube. Your comments and energy made it a memorable debut, and we're looking forward to bringing more live coverage as the season continues. We start with the San Diego Padres, who were among the busiest teams at the deadline. They added Mason Miller and JP Sears from the Athletics, then followed up with Ryan O'Hearn and Ramón Laureano to bring more left-handed power and defensive versatility, while Nestor Cortes joined their rotation. The package heading to Oakland was headlined by top prospect Leo De Vries, signaling that San Diego is all-in for the stretch run. The New York Yankees built out one of the deepest bullpens in baseball, adding Jake Bird, David Bednar, and Camilo Doval, along with Jose Caballero to give their bench more speed and flexibility. The National League East became a true arms race. The Mets bolstered their bullpen with Tyler Rogers and Ryan Helsley and addressed center field with Cedric Mullins, while the Phillies countered by landing Jhoan Duran from the Twins to lock down the ninth inning. Around the league, the Astros brought Carlos Correa back to Houston, the Mariners reunited with Eugenio Suárez, and the Cubs, Reds, Rays, Rangers, Tigers, Red Sox, and Royals all made moves to position themselves for the next two months in different ways. Meanwhile, the Twins leaned fully into selling, parting with multiple core pieces and signaling a new phase for the franchise. All of this leads into what could be a fascinating finish to the season, capped off by the inaugural Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway, where the Braves and Reds will play in front of a potential record-setting regular-season crowd. Follow us for more trade deadline reactions and live coverage on Instagram and X @TablesettersPod, and if you enjoy the show, make sure to like, subscribe, and share. This is why late July baseball always delivers something worth talking about.
