For this episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we took our portable recorders to an elegant mansion along Central Park, which had been decked out by Sony as a series of stylized photography sets, complete with full lighting, backdrops, and models. They also happened to have on hand many brand-new Sony Alpha a7R IV Mirrorless Digital Cameras and hundreds of lenses for the guests to shoot with in these mini studios. Let’s not forget about the great music, delicious food, and open bar Sony provided. All in all, it was a wonderful event to celebrate the highest megapixel full-frame camera on the market. Sony invited many impressive photographers, writers, influencers, retailers, and… us. And we made our way through the many rooms, speaking with Sony representatives and photographers, getting their first impressions of this latest incarnation of the Alpha a7R series. Needless to say, people were impressed and, after seeing the specs and handling this new camera, so were we. Our first guest is Michael Bubolo, Senior National Manager from Sony PRO Support. We sat with Bubolo before the crowds arrived and were able to go over some of the upgrades and features and get his thoughts on what makes this camera stand out from previous models. Next, we welcome the one and only Ken Rockwell to ask his thoughts on the camera and anything else he wanted to talk about.   After a short break, we speak with visual artist Lori Grinker about her potential uses for the a7R IV and then, with landscape and travel photographer Jude Allen, who happened to be in town from San Francisco, about his first impressions after handling the camera. Finally, we sit down with Sony Artisans Andy Katz and Colby Brown, who both had had the opportunity to shoot the new camera for a couple of weeks and report back on the features they most appreciate for the specific work they do. Join us for this in-depth look at the latest Sony full-frame mirrorless camera, and let us know if you are ready to upgrade. We had some great submissions from Jarrod Hills, Steve Bennett, Ken Kelchtermans, Jackson Frishman, and Michael Ryno. Everyone really did a great job of representing the current theme. In the end, I decided to pick Ken Kelchtermans photo, which he described as follows: "The sand on our beaches are not the same anymore since they throw dredged sand on the beaches. It's become very soft en very washable. 1 big storm and we have 1 meter sand cliffs along our beaches. Of course the dredging company loves it when that happens. It is like mopping with an open faucet in my opinion. Here on the coast of Belgium they started building on the dunes, which should be our protection in the possibly near future. Good that there are some parts protected but, it's already to late. Vlaanderen (Part of Belgium) means flooded land in the old germanic. Oostende from the 13 century, is way back in sea now."Nice work Ken! I'll get you a prize soon! We are growing closer to our goal of getting to $1,000/mo in support, at which point I will create an award to be given to a photographer that is a champion of conservation. Help us get there! Here is the photographer that Ole recommended for the podcast: 1. Dag Ole Nordhaug. I love hearing from the podcast listeners! Reach out to me via Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter if you'd like to be on the podcast or if you have an idea of a topic we can talk about. Join the discussion over on Nature Photographer's Network! We have weekly discussions about each episode of the podcast. It's also free! We also have an Instagram page and a Facebook page for updates. We are doing something new over on Patreon. Patrons of the podcast are encouraged to participate in our themed photo contests by submitting them to the "community board" on our Patreon Page which can be found at patreon.com/fstopandlisten/community - The the theme for the past 2 weeks was "S-curves" - we had some amazing submissions from our talented Patrons, including Dmitry Kirshner, Jeffrey Anderson, Mark Clafshenkel, Gary Randall, Richard Wong, Steve Bennett, and Jesse Brown Nelson. I really loved all of the submissions - we have some incredible photographers in our community! In the end I had to pick the photograph from Jesse Brown Nelson from Badlands National Park. There's just something magical about it. Nice work everyone! The next theme, which ends June 21st is "Intimate Landscapes" - let's see all of your intimate landscape photographs. And no, I don't mean nudes. One of our patrons, Charlotte Gibb, just posted a great article about these types of photos, so check that out! Our next guest is Justin Majeczky. Justin is a videographer and photographer living in the Lake Tahoe area. I'm looking forward to sharing that one with you! We also have some other exciting guests coming up, including David Cobb, Weihao Pan, and a lot more. I'm also looking forward to a panel conversation with Aaron Reed and Colby Brown about marketing and business - they will be fielding listener questions - so keep an eye out for that over on NPN! Thanks for stopping in, collaborating with us, and listening. See you next week. I'm very excited to welcome my very close friend, Colby Brown, back to the show. Colby was last heard on Episode 51 and my goal was to follow up our extended conversation into Episode 52, but life happened. Fortunately, we were able to record this episode together while huddled in our cabin in Norway's Lofoten Islands as gale force winds were pummeling the area. Considering that we were about to begin a winter workshop in the area with a group of intrepid photography students, we thought it'd be fun to discuss how we approach and plan for shooting in extremely cold conditions. We follow up with a great conversation about dealing with expectations vs. reality when it comes to photography, gear, and life. It's a great chat and I'm sure you'll love it! Paul Pichugin   Paul Pichugin: Hi, I’m Paul Pichugin. I’m a dad to 3 awesome daughters, fortunate husband to the best wife anyone could ask for, proud brother to a sister who is doing amazing things, and a son to some pretty incredible parents. I also take photos for a living. I’ve been fortunate enough to work on travel and landscape photography projects in every state in Australia, 17 countries and Antarctica in the last few years. I absolutely love what I do, I often have to pinch myself and remind myself that this *isn’t* a dream! Some of the experiences I’ve had include kayaking and snorkelling in Antarctica, night kayaking amongst the bio-luminescence in Tasmania and hiking through blizzards in the Tasmanian mountains, aerial photography in Queensland, Dubai and all over Western Australia to camping all through Iceland & Norway and with Bedouin in Jordan, riding horses around the Great Pyramids of Egypt. I’m available to work on tourism, travel and commercial projects both locally and internationally, contact me to have a chat about your next project or idea. One of my other main passions is volunteering and working with Non-Profit Organisations to help raise awareness for their causes and funds for their projects. I support Awareness Cambodia, a charity for children orphaned by HIV. I also work with The Giving Lens, founded by Colby Brown, as a workshop instructor and team leader. This involves leading a team of photographers through developing nations, teaching photography and volunteering with local NGOs. I’m so happy to welcome back one of my closest friends, Colby Brown, to the show. Colby was the guest for Episode 20, which just over a year ago, and it was great to compare the state of photography and social media from January 2018 to today. Because, as you can imagine, a lot has changed. Between Facebook’s myriad PR and political nightmares to Google+ shutting down, to Flickr working its way back to glory, the digital landscape for photographers is wildly different. This episode covers a lot of ground, whether you’re a photographer who is interested in making a career out of your passion or simply in it to share your photos with the world. Even better is that Colby will be returning for Episode 52! We had a second topic to discuss, but our conversation about photography and social media was too good to cut short. Episode 057 of F-Stop Collaborate and Listen with Colby Brown! I had a great time speaking with Colby this week - I've been following him ever since I got into photography in 2011 and have been wanting to have a conversation with him for years. We finally made it happen!  Colby is a photographer, photo educator and author based out of Eastern Pennsylvania. Specializing in landscape, travel and humanitarian photography, his photographic portfolio spans the globe.  Colby became a photographer back in 2006, rapidly rising in the ranks of the photo industry. Not too long after picking up his first DSLR, Colby was leading workshops for National Geographic in South America, further spurring his love for both travel and photo education. In 2011, he founded The Giving Lens, an organization that blends photo education with support for various NGO’s and causes around the world. TGL helps fight for child education, clean drinking water projects, species preservation, women’s rights and much more. I know you'll like this hearing from Colby on this week's podcast!  We covered some great topics this week, including: 1. How Colby got into photography. 2. How Colby balances supporting his family with his busy photography and travel schedule.  3. Post-processing on the road using the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 laptop. 4. The Giving Lens.  5. Having controversial conversations on social media as a public figure and artist.  6. Using social media to reach your fan base.  Over on Patreon this week, Colby and I had a great conversation about the past, present, and future of social media. Please consider supporting the podcast on Patreon! There's a ton of bonus content over there for subscribers! Your support is critical - it helps with production costs and to improve the podcast over time. Thanks! To learn more about Colby, check out his online presence: Website. Instagram. Facebook. Here are the artists that Colby recommended for the podcast: 1. Patrick DiFruscia. 2. William Patino. Some examples of Colby's photography can be seen below.  I love hearing from the podcast listeners! Reach out to me via email, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter if you'd like to be on the podcast or if you have an idea of a topic we can talk about. You can also join the conversation on our Facebook Group! We've also started an Instagram page and a Facebook page for the podcast, where we'll be sharing updates as we go!

Our guest for this episode of the podcast is Belgian travel photographer Sébastien Beun. This is what Sébastien says about himself:"Photography, for me, is a lifelong and everlasting passion. It is what makes me feel emotions, breathe, live. Photography challenges me to share my life, my thoughts, my perception of the world that surrounds me, with others, and to share in their lives as well. From the waterfalls of Iceland, to the mountains of the Alps, the Palazzi of Venice, to a small Maasai village in Tanzania, to watching my children grow, photography is the rhythm to which I live my life.Photography came to a pause by the time I went to university. I studied dentistry and then started a PhD focusing on possible improvements of restorative dental materials. Once the PhD was completed, I started teaching and I am now professor of restorative dentistry. In 2009, I started photography again but only occasionally, while on vacation. I eventually got back to photography more seriously late 2012 and now travel as much as I can with a camera at hand.As a photographer I specialize in travel, especially landscape and portraiture. I love to take take photographs for a good cause; this is the why most of my travels are linked to NGO’s or non-profit organizations that try to help people locally. For that reason, since the beginning of 2014 I traveled several times with the Giving Lens, an organization created by my friend Colby Brown that has “a vision to see our three passions come together for a better world: travel, photography and giving back”. The perfect match for me! So far I went to Jordan, Tanzania and Thailand with them.As a university teacher, I am experienced at educating people. I am available to give talks, lead workshops or provide mentorships about anything related to travel and/or landscape photography."We chatted with Sébastien about his involvement with humanitarian travel operator The Giving Lens, his recent flight over New York City, and how he manages to make his job, his family life, and his passion for travel photography coexist peacefully.Duration 38m 02s. He is a citizen of both the US and Canada, a certified PADI Master Diver and Wilderness First Responder.  He has worked as a photography instructor for National Geographic Student Expeditions and is currently focusing much of his time and energy on Humanitarian efforts around the globe.  Colby’s latest book, Google+ for Photographers, is now available at nearly all major retailers and most independent book stores. It focuses on showing you not only the nuts and bolts of Google+, but how to use its features to build an online following and grow your photography business in this new age of digital personable interaction.  www.colbybrownphotography.com www.thegivinglens.com www.blamethemonkey.com www.thecandidframe.com info@thecandidframe.com
