From being a pro rider to being behind the scenes of one of the industry's biggest publications, Ben Greenwood has seen just about everything when it comes to wakeboarding. Getting his start riding on the water during the beautiful summers or the northeastern United States, Ben quickly found a passion for the feeling that wakeboarding gave him. Never one for contests or competition, Ben's drive gave from his desire to make wakeboarding look and feel good. After moving to Florida, Ben began picking up sponsors and even a professional podium. However, getting photos and filming for videos was where we saw the most from his riding, and earned him 2005 ROTY. Unique grabs, clean landings, Ben embodied what good style looks like behind the boat. Born and raised in North Alabama, just minutes away from the foothills of Tennessee, Brandon Bailes can still call this beautiful rural setting home alongside his wife, two sons, and two adventurous dogs. Growing up he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, trapping, and exploring the woods and streams around his house and he hasn't stopped even to this day.... He says, “I'm convinced that the woods and water make you a student for life.” Brandon works full-time for NASA but on the side he is a pure artist when it comes to tying flies. He is a commercial fly designer for Fulling Mills, he sits on tyer boards for several companies like Ahrex hooks, HMH Vises, and Dr Slick tools to name a few. His flies have been featured in several books “Smallmouth Flies- Top to Bottom” by Jake Villwock and Aaron Reed's “Flyfishing Austin and Central Texas” We talked on a previous episode about our time catching our first smallmouth bass on the fly with our pal Wade Blevins; on that same trip we had the pleasure of meeting Brandon and he gave us a couple of his incredible flies. We are honored for him to join us on the podcast. We hope you will enjoy this episode.

BiOptimizers - Awesome Health Podcast

Have you ever realized how much of your balance relies on your feet? This is because of something known as the brain balance connection. The brain balance connection refers to the relationship between the balance nerve in your foot and preventing falls in older adults. This connection is based on neuro balance therapy, which is a new approach to improving balance and preventing falls.  This week I am joined by lifelong fitness and health advocate, Chris Wilson. With nearly 25 years of experience in the fitness industry, Chris has worked with some of the biggest names in the fitness industry, including Charles Poliquin, Ben Prentice, Lloyd Weinstein, Jay Cutler, Aaron Reed, and John Hansen.  Chris is a strength coach and VP of Content at Critical Bench Publishing. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (NASM), Specialist in Sports Nutrition (ISSA), Certified Balance and Stability Instructor (ASFA) and a Certified Kettlebell Instructor (RKC).  In this podcast, Chris Wilson will cover topics related to fitness, health, and aging and how he got into the fitness industry and found his passion for helping others. He talks about how he started working with people who were post-stroke or had paralysis and how he wanted to help them live better. In this podcast, we cover: The brain balance connection (the relationship between the nerves in your feet and your ability to maintain balance) How to improve the number one balance nerve in your foot to help prevent accidental falls A program based on neuro balance therapy, which is a simple, easy-to-do program that can be done anywhere The consequences of not moving enough The signs that you may need to start focusing on balance and coordination The Deep Peroneal Nerve Did you know that people over the age of 50 are at a greater risk for falls and injuries? One way to help prevent these falls is by improving the number one balance nerve in your foot. The Deep Peroneal Nerve starts outside the knee area and goes down to the end between your big toe and second toe. This particular nerve is often associated with something called “foot drop.”  Foot drop happens when an individual has difficulty lifting their foot due to weakness or paralysis. As a result, they may drag their toes or catch their foot when walking, leading to slips and trips. Improving nerve function in your feet can help improve balance and thus prevent falls. Daily Movement Prevents Cognitive Decline And Physical Deterioration. Chris believes that maintaining daily movement is the key to preventing cognitive decline and physical deterioration as we age. He also talks about how a sedentary lifestyle can lead to balance problems and falls in older adults. He recommends finding ways to stay active throughout the day to keep your brain-body connection strong. We had some great submissions from Jarrod Hills, Steve Bennett, Ken Kelchtermans, Jackson Frishman, and Michael Ryno. Everyone really did a great job of representing the current theme. In the end, I decided to pick Ken Kelchtermans photo, which he described as follows: "The sand on our beaches are not the same anymore since they throw dredged sand on the beaches. It's become very soft en very washable. 1 big storm and we have 1 meter sand cliffs along our beaches. Of course the dredging company loves it when that happens. It is like mopping with an open faucet in my opinion. Here on the coast of Belgium they started building on the dunes, which should be our protection in the possibly near future. Good that there are some parts protected but, it's already to late. Vlaanderen (Part of Belgium) means flooded land in the old germanic. Oostende from the 13 century, is way back in sea now."Nice work Ken! I'll get you a prize soon!
