We explore the insights from his book, "The Personal Transformation Blueprint," which focuses on creating powerful and lasting change in life. The discussion includes themes such as adopting a playful mindset, living one's best life, and finding fun along the way. The chapter kicks off with a humorous segment, sharing jokes, including a lengthy and engaging story about a young boy named Timmy, highlighting Dan's flair for storytelling. Through humor and meaningful dialogue, we aim to inspire listeners to seek fun, flow, and fulfillment in their own lives.Functional Fitness and Creative CookingThis chapter explores the balance between indulgence and discipline in diet and exercise. We discuss the temptation of using fat and sugar as a "cheat code" in cooking and the joy of experimenting with new ingredients, like plantains, while avoiding the pitfalls of raw plantain consumption. I emphasize the importance of creativity in the kitchen to avoid relying on default flavors. On the fitness front, we highlight the value of consistency with core exercises like squats and pull-ups while also incorporating variety for flexibility and injury recovery. Sharing personal anecdotes, I recount a knee injury from a football game that led to incorporating balance-focused exercises like single-leg squats and Bulgarian split squats. By applying the 80-20 rule to fitness routines, we maintain consistency while allowing room for playful experimentation to keep workouts fresh and effective. The Power of Planning and BalanceThis chapter focuses on the importance of having a realistic and flexible plan for personal growth, especially in fitness and health. We discuss how many people struggle because they lack discipline and set unrealistic timelines, leading to inconsistency and discouragement. By preparing for good, bad, and average days and accepting moments of weakness without harsh self-judgment, one can maintain a balanced and sustainable approach to goals. We also touch on the concept of getting "unstuck" in life by setting bigger dreamSupport the showSupport the Playful Humans mission to help adults rediscover the power of play: Subscribe to the YouTube channel Subscribe to the Podcast Book a playshop for your team Support our sponsors

This episode is dedicated to a listener question from Julie in New Mexico. Her question has to do with cross training. A lot of us like to do other activities aside from riding – yoga, swimming, or, in this case, running. As it happens, Jec and I are both runners. So is Katrin Silva, a Best Horse Practices Summit presenter and part of the Cayuse Collaborative Clinic initiative. Together, we chat about cross-training in general and running specifically. We talk about the importance of core strength for riding and running. I've always felt that core strength and paying attention to the fitness of tiny little core muscles, not just those typical six pack abdominal muscles, is where a lot of us could stand to dedicate a bit more attention and time. We have some excellent articles from guest columnists on best horse practicesdot com and I will link to them in our show notes. Also. We thank Skratch Labs for sponsoring this episode. Skratch Labs makes drinks and energy bars and chews. They all have less sugar than most sports drinks and have more sodium. If you are sweating, you need to replace your electrolytes. Every ingredient has a purpose. No junk. Good-tasting products that your mouth and your belly and your brain will appreciate. Check out their Summer Peach Sport Hydration drink mix and their Raspberry Energy Chews. See you later, Season Two! This is our 30th episode and our 60th since we started this shindig less than two years ago. We'll be back soon for our third season. Our title sponsor is Lucerne Farms, producers of quality forage feeds. Lucerne is this outstanding little company in northern Maine. Forage is chopped hay, an excellent option when you can't have your horse on pasture or when you need to add calories and nutrients to your horses' diet. We also thank Redmond Equine for being part of our sponsorship family. Redmond rocks and other offerings come straight from their mine in Redmond, Utah. And we welcome back Pharm Aloe. Pharm Aloe offers aloe pellets and gel and other products to support horses' GI health, and immune system. Do you consider yourself an athlete? Do you feel connected to your body? Maybe these are weird questions. But I'm truly curious about the intersection of horse work and athleticism. I've observed that a lot of riders don't seem to consider themselves athletes and don't consider riding a sport as much as a job, pastime, or recreational activity. That's a shame, I think. When we hold our own fitness, training, conditioning, and body awareness to a higher standard, we necessarily elevate our connection to our horses and make it possible to do more, be more, connect more. It matters. Short term and long term. In the moment and over the years. Fitness and agility matter. What do you think? LINKS to Core Fitness articles Core Insight from Katrin Silva Developing the Intelligent Core Core Strength Moves with David Stickler We LOVE hearing from you. While we take a little break before our third season, send us your thoughts. Topic suggestion? Training question? Or maybe you just want to share something great or not so great that happened with you and your horse. All good. Looking forward to your emails.

Today we talk with Cory Oberlander about how he was able to grow a company to a point where he could expand his entrepreneurial aspirations! Cory took lessons he learned from his first business and transferred them to another business. His second business was also able to fill a void in his community, which was a plus for all involved! At Agveris, we work with progressive growers in ND, SD, MN & WI to help balance soils, maximize fertilizer efficiency and deliver higher profits. Computer generated fertility recommendations are a great place to start, but because of numerous variables in the soil, they are inadequate for the progressive grower. Through the use of complete and accurate soil tests, field tested recalibrated algorithms and other soil chemistry intricacies, we can deliver a fertility package that will bring the grower to the next level. By doing this, we are able to lower weed, insect and disease pressure, allow for better water utilization, more efficient nutrient up-take and availability, which gives the growers more flexibility of picking hybrids and varieties. https://www.agveris.com/ Are you ready to be in the best shape of your life? How is Silence related to the human body? To movement, exercise, and performance? To physical, as well as mental and spiritual, wellness? Today we begin what we hope will be an ongoing conversation in the Encountering Silence world, exploring these and similar questions. Kurt Johnson We open this exploration thanks to Kurt Johnson joining in the conversation today. Kurt Johnson is a personal trainer and massage therapist who works with individuals, small groups and corporations, to help people manage pain, lose weight, improve fitness, and simply live better through movement, training, and exercise. He co-owns the Core Fitness training studio in North Haven, CT, and has over twenty years of experience studying and practicing the art and science of physical movement — and helping others to achieve their goals and beyond for bodily wellness. On top of it all, Kurt is an avid runner and also engages in endurance competitions. He has entered and completed half-Iron Man and full Iron Man races. What's going on is you're doing, doing, doing, doing, but we need to take a step back and "non-do," and focus more on the quietness of your body, paying attention to those little things that are going on in your body, and finding out why these things are happening. — Kurt Johnson If "personal trainer" evokes in your mind a young drill sergeant, fresh out of the Marines, who barks orders at his clients in a gym blaring with loud music and glaring neon lights — well, Kurt Johnson is not that person! Rather, his focus is on integrating physical wellness with mental and spiritual nurture — and so needless to say, he has some interesting things to say about the importance of silence in regard to physical health, fitness, and wellness. Kurt sees his ultimate mission to help people to find complete freedom in their movement of mind, body, and spirit, so they can become who they truly are. Oh, and by the way, Kurt is Kevin's brother.
