I 1994 tháinig figiúirí nua amach agus bhí na figiúirí go hiontach don eacnamaíocht I gcóir cúig bhliain. I 2005 tharla an tsochraid is mó ar an lá seo I 2000 bhliain sa Róimh. Bhí sé an tsochraid de Pope John Paul. I 1994 tháinig an nuacht amach go mbeadh seimineár faoi thurasóireacht ar siúil sa West County, leis an Shannon Development agus an chomhairle turasóireacht an Chláir. I 2005 tháinig sé amach gur cheap daoine gur chaill bean ó Cill Dalua a shaol de bharr fadhb chroí tar éis a fuair sí máinliacht chosmaideach I Nua Eabhrac. Sin Take That le Everything Changes – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1994. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1994 tháinig an nuacht amach go bhfuair Kurt Cobain bás ina teach. Fuair leictreoir é ina teach cúpla lá tar éis a chuir sé lámh ina bhás féin. Mí roimhe bhí ródháileog drugaí aige nuair a bhí sé ar turas ag canadh. I 2001 tháinig Emma Bunton amach lena chéad singil What Took You So Long. Bhí sé seo a chéad amhrán a chuaigh chuig uimhir a haon. An leasainm a bhí uirthi ná Baby Spice agus bhí sí an ceathrú ball den bhanna cheoil a tháinig amach le hamhrán singil. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Vivienna Westwood sa Bhreatain I 1941 agus rugagh aisteoir Dean Norris I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1963 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 8th of April, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1994: New figures were published that painted the brightest picture of the economy for five years. 2005: The biggest funeral in the 2000 year history of the catholic church took place in Rome on this day against a backdrop of final, poignant insights into pope john pauls soul. 1994: Clare tourism council in conjunction with shannon development were due to host an evening seminar on tourism in the west county hotel, ennis on monday the 11th. 2005: An undetected heart condition may have caused the death of a killaloe mother of two following relatively minor cosmetic surgery in a new york clinic. That was Take That with Everything Changes – the biggest song on this day in 1994. Onto music news on this day In 1994, Kurt Cobain's body was discovered by an electrician at his Seattle home, several days after the Nirvana frontman took his own life. Just one month earlier, the 27-year-old grunge icon had suffered a drug overdose while on tour in support of the band's third album In Utero. In 2001, ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton's debut single “What Took You So Long” became her first and only solo No.1. The singer, dubbed “Baby Spice,” was the fourth member of the group to score a solo chart-topper. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Vivienne Westwood was born in England in 1941 and actor Dean Norris was born in America in 1963 this is some of the stuff he has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

Welcome back to Pizza Quest.Mark Todd is a recurring guest here on Pizza Quest because, one, I love cheese (every kind!), and two, he's so interesting and makes cheese interesting too as he demystifies this magical, fermented, "spoiled" solid milk so that we can enjoy it in all it's mighty nuances and permutations. In past episodes with Mark, we've explored stretched cheeses in the "pasta filata" category, cheddar cheeses, and hard, aged cheeses. This time we've taken the big leap and a deep dive into "stinky cheeses," which means Alpine-style washed-rind cheeses that are not for the timid. But, oh, the rewards!! We join Mark from his base in the wilds and woods of Sonoma's rustic "West County," along the Russian River, where Mark is often found hunting for edible mushrooms in the redwood forest when he isn't teaching the world about the joys of cheese. I guarantee that you will learn more than you ever imagined during this lively conversation with our friend, Mark Todd, "The Cheese Dude."
Mark is the Operations and Maintenance Manager at West County Wastewater District in Richmond California. In this episode we talk about Mark's career in Wastewater and the route he took to get to where he currently is. We talk about WCWD's area of service and how it was decied. Mark wants us to know that its ok to "specialize" and also the concept of "Toilet to Tap." Give the show a listen and remember to thank your local Public Works Professionals.

An East Clare member of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service is warning that in the days following Christmas Day, blood stocks will see a stark countrywide deduction. With 67% of blood stocks used to support cancer treatments and further vast quantities used to support childbirth, stocks will be depleated over the festive period with hospitals only able to hold fresh blood for three to five days. Broadford native and IBTS Donor Recruitment Executive, Alex O'Connor says the donation clinic in Treacy's West County on December 27th is vital to replenish stock. He's warning that although stocks have recovered from pre amber alert levels, robust measures need to be put in place just after Christmas to prevent levels falling to this threshold.

Located in West County, The Wolf is a neighborhood gathering spot serving up organic food with a heavy focus on sustainability. It's the kind of place owners Bob and Denise Birbin want to visit, which is why they created a restaurant they felt was missing in their community. The two met in the restaurant industry in 1978, and when they got the chance to take over The Wolf, they only wanted to do it if it could be exactly what they wanted in a restaurant. It's become a staple in Ballwin, known for their healthy options, but it's much more than a lunch spot. It's a pizza spot, a place to see live music and a spot to sneak away for a late-night bite or drink in their lounge area.

With its ever-changing course, its flowing waters and historical significance, the Mississippi River serves as a powerful metaphor for the American story. The river is a lifeblood nourishing the land while also serving as a path to freedom itself, symbolizing the pursuit of freedom and progress from the North to the Gulf of Mexico. Additional to all of this are its routes of trade and commerce that highlight both the American spirit and prosperity. This week's Deeper Roots show celebrates the river that got its name after the northern Minnesota people, the Ojibway, and their name for ‘big river' as well as songs of the namesake state and delta as well. Performances include mid-century recordings from country favorites the Delmore Brothers and Jimmie Skinner, blues from Charlie Musselwhite and the Rufus Thomas, as well as classic recordings of Bob Dylan, Charley Pride, Pops Staples and the Boswell Sisters. Tune into West County radio each Friday morning at 9 Pacific.

It's a topical theme…it's a medicinal thing…it's a blend of sounds celebrating vipers and jives from the past century. We will join in the celebration (in spirit anyway) of the date and time that three Marin County teenagers are said to have inaugurated over a half century ago. There is no shortage of material to pull from the well of Americana…whether that be from the 1920s or from the 2010s. We'll brighten up the playlist with music that will help us kick back. We'll pour over a selected list of great sounds from the last 100 years that either directly or indirectly find us thinking about (or maybe imbibing in) the herb so many care about. There will be music from John Prine, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, Ray Charles and some early century jazz nuggets you will find hard to resist. Friday morning sounds from the Cherry Street Historic District of Santa Rosa, California, streaming to West County and the world on KOWS-LP, Occidental 92.5 FM and kowsfm.com/listen.

There's going to be a free form mix of sounds this week with some ‘scenes of devastation' as well as some blues and tradition. We'll set the tone with a song that inspired the title lines from The Pine Hill Project and then head into some tradition and some covers that speak in the language of the sacred and secular…from Saturday night at the juke to Sunday morning in the pew. A great mix of sounds from some classic female blues gems from the 1940s like Wea Bea Booze and Ethel Waters. We'll also go down to the crossroads and Deep Elem with the likes of Champion Jack Dupree and T-Bone Walker, some deeper/darker blues from Geeshie Wiley and Blind Lemon Jefferson as well. But we'll also fill the air with the tops in great interpretations from Van Dyke Parks, Willie Watson and Bob Brozman. Join us for some ‘last kind words' from the Rocky Road Blues to James Alley on a Friday morning in West County.
Lynda Hopkins a progressive politician currently running unopposed for a third term and perhaps final term as Sonoma County District 5 Supervisor ( Comprising West County and the Coast North from Bodega ).She began her career as a mother, small farmer, local journalist, activist, and student of progressive party. With those strengths and illusions she entered the political process at the beginning of an 8 year stretch of County emergencies. She is now a settled incumbent with a sophisticated, operable understanding of how this County works - or, more often fails to.Considering the end of her political career she is, perhaps, at a greater freedom to talk about the real complexity of political machinations and the limits of government led change. A theme show once again, this week with the telephone as our muse. Songs about the most important of communication devices which has fused with social media to the benefit, and equal detriment, of all mankind. From the early call from Bell to Watson to the proverbial football that our fearless leader carries around to make the one call to eradicate or, better yet, save mankind. This week we'll visit the long lost guide known as the “operator” and the equally antiquated term “dial” with music from country, pop, soul, and rock archives of yesterday. Kick back and be entertained by the sounds of Brenda Lee, Sister Wynona Carr, Stonewall Jackson, Loretta Lynn & Ernest Tubb, and Bill Fury in a collection of the very best from multiple genres here on Sonoma County Community Radio, broadcasting in West County on 92.5 FM and streaming to all mankind on kowsfm.com/listen. Drop in why don't you?

Ann Bognar opened Nippon Tei in West County more than two decades ago. Her son Nick grew up watching her in the kitchen at home and at the restaurant. Nick took the lessons learned from his family restaurant and opened Indo in the Botanical Heights neighborhood and now the mother-son duo will venture into a new restaurant Sado. The Bognars will bring modern Japanese cuisine and sushi to the Hill neighborhood later this fall. In honor of Mother's Day we sat down with the Bognars to talk about lessons learned inside kitchen, legacy, and the power of family. Nippon Tei will remain open through the fall until Sado opens in the former Giovanni's location on the Hill.
