"Feel Good Now" Alright, let's get the spicy stuff out of the way; yes, the Loft split up onstage in front of 3,000 people while opening for the Colorfield at the Hammersmith Palais. That happened. But a lot happened before and a lot has happened after, so let me catch you up. Formed in 1980, The Loft were one of the first bands signed to Alan McGee's Creation Records. Their wistful pop had jangle and nerve and they tore out of the gates cramming their resume with notable achievements for McGee's lable like being the first Creation band to appear on television, the first top the indie singles chart, the first to be invited on to a major UK tour and the first to record a Janice Long BBC radio session. The Loft were poised to be a huge band, but the public split came before their first album was ever released and so fans could only be left to wonder what might have been had they been able to just get a record on the shelves. Compilations like Magpie Eyes and Once Around The Fair were released over the years, but as we know, great as they may be, it's not the same thing. Singer Pete Astor and drummer Dave Morgan went on the form the Weather Prophets, while guitarist Andy Strickland formed The Caretaker Race and bassist Bill Prince formed The Wishing Stones. Happily, the ice that forms after an argument started to thaw and the Loft slowly drifted back to each other. I'll let Andy and Pete tell you that story, but let me just say this. We're so lucky that it did because the band's debut album is one we finally get to hear and it was well worth the wait. The ten songs on Everything Changes, Everything Stays The Same are perfectly crafted pop gems with spry rhythms, jangling beauty and melodic mastery. I love this record. Pete's been on the show before, and he's a lovely guy to chat with, but having him back with Andy was a real treat. www.tapeterecords.de (https://www.tapeterecords.de) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

A Bermuda (Mórocz Tamás, Urbán Dániel) furcsa karrierje a 2010-es évek egyik legjátszottabb magyar produkcióját jelenti, annak ellenére, hogy leginkább a rádiós-tévés-online térben volt jelen (Monte-Carlo, London stb.), élőben viszonylag ritkán jelentek meg. Episode 53: Screamadelica (Primal Scream). McCartney In Goal is the podcast that debates the great albums of pop music, using a competitive knock-out format. Today we're discussing, Screamadelica which was the third studio album by Scottish rock/indie band Primal Scream. It was first released on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom. The album includes "Loaded", "Movin' On Up", "Come Together" and "Higher Than The Sun".How did a remix transform a rock band into dance music pioneers? In our latest episode, we embark on a spirited journey through Primal Scream's iconic album "Screamadelica." Set against the backdrop of September 1991—a month that birthed Nirvana's "Nevermind" and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"—we reminisce about our teenage years and debate which album truly defined the era. With a playful quiz on the band's roots, we explore their ties with figures like Bobby Gillespie and Alan McGee, and the influence of the UK indie and Acid House scenes, all peppered with tales of our adolescent awkwardness. Our discussion takes a lively turn as we dissect the album's eclectic nature, bouncing between gospel-infused anthems and psychedelic dance tracks. We engage in a humorous yet passionate debate over whether "Screamadelica" should be considered a concept album, reminiscent of a journey through a weekend's highs and lows. We even engage in a cheeky saxophone solo showdown, diving into differing tastes in jazz and musical complexity, while reflecting on the transformative power of tracks like "Moving On Up" and "Slip Inside This House."No conversation about "Screamadelica" would be complete without celebrating the profound impact of Andy Weatherall. We dive into his pivotal role in reshaping the band's sound with remixes like "Loaded," and ponder how his collaboration with Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes forged a legacy that won the 1992 Mercury Prize. Whether you're a longtime fan or a curious newcomer, our exploration promises not just entertainment but a deep appreciation for an album that remains a defining piece of '90s musical history.Support the showTwitter - https://twitter.com/mccartneyinWebsite - https://mccartneyingoal.com/

In this episode we're joined by the esteemed Joe "Mr. C" McEwen, who Zooms in from L.A. to reminisce about his storied career as a writer, DJ and A&R man. We begin in our guest's native Philadelphia, where his teenage mind was blown by a James Brown show in 1966, and follow him up to his adopted Boston. He recalls his early reviews for The Boston Phoenix and revisits his 1975 homage to Sam Cooke for The Real Paper. His 1977 encounter with a 19-year-old Michael Jackson prompts discussion of a comparatively low point in the future superstar's career. From the same year, Joe's profile of Joe Tex leads into clips from the late Cliff White's glorious audio interview with the country-soul legend who'd just scored a hit with the discofied 'Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)'. We discuss Tex's place in the southern soul pantheon before moving on to the marvellous Lost Soul compilations "Mr. C" assembled in 1982. We hear about Joe's A&R years at Columbia and then Sire/Reprise, taking in reminiscences of British bands Ride, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine. He also revisits his working friendships with Sire founder Seymour Stein and with previous RBP podcast guests Geoff Travis, Alan McGee and Rob Dickins. We hear about his role in the '90s "alt.country" phenomenon via the signing of Uncle Tupelo and his subsequent association with spinoff bands Wilco and Son Volt. We conclude with the Sire signing of Muscle Shoals legend Dan Penn for 1994's Do Right Man album. Mark talks us out with quotes from newly-added library pieces about sometime Ikette P.P. Arnold (1967), the Stones' Keith Richard(s) (1969), doomed dub poet Mikey Smith (1983) and the deeply druggy Alice in Chains (1993)... after which Jasper wraps up the episode with his thoughts on pieces about laptop pop (2001) and Kendrick Lamar (2012). Many thanks to special guest Joe McEwen. Pieces discussed: Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, Joe Tex: The Soul Of An Underdog, Joe Tex audio, Lost Soul, Vols. 1-3, Uncle Tupelo live, Uncle Tupelo: Are you ready for the alt. country?, Wilco: Last Twang in Town, Dan Penn: Once More With Feeling, P.P. Arnold, Keith Richard(s), Mikey Smith: Poet and His Roots, Alice in Chains: Misery loves company, Laptop punk and the powerbook pop and Kendrick Lamar: Inside the Year's Best Album.

In Episode #184 of The XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar speaks to singer/songwriter and indie-dance pop icon Lisa Moorish about her new album, Divine Chaos. This is Moorish's first new music in 20 years, released on the sister label to Irvine Welsh's Jack Said What imprint. Lisa wanted to work with a female co-producer on this new album and teamed up with Zoe Devlin Love (Alabama 3). Renowned producer Steve Mac brought an extra dimension to the collection's tougher electronic beats. Together, they have delivered many flavours—from dance-influenced tracks to indie electronica—amalgamating Lisa's varied sounds across the decades. Lisa Moorish first made her name in music as a teenager when she had a club hit in 1989 with Rock To The Beat, a track written by Detroit techno luminaries Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson that fed into the UK's acid house explosion. She went on to work with the likes of Paul Weller and George Michael before being swept up in the Britpop scene and recording vocals on tracks by some of the biggest bands of that era — Oasis, Blur and Ash. She then started her indie electro-punk band, Kill City, in the early noughties, and they were snapped up by music mogul Alan McGee and signed to his new label, Poptones. In this interview, Lisa discusses the writing and recording of Divine Chaos, duetting with George Michael, the Britpop scene and more.  Listen via YouTube | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | RSS – Find The XS Noize Podcast's complete archive of episodes here.  Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Paul Chastain co-founded Velvet Crush rock group. Signed by Alan McGee to his mythic British indie label Creation Records who gave the band's first and second albums, the latter, the seminal “Teenage Symphonies To God”, worldwide release. Paul's musical arc also includes path crossings with a handful of top-notch talent. He has been playing and singing alongside pal Matthew Sweet from the pre-”Girlfriend” days onward. Run-ins along the way with such pop music icons and ne'er-do-wells as Roger McGuinn, Mitch Easter, Susanna Hoffs, Stephen Duffy, Tommy Keene, Ami Onuki (Puffy Ami/Yumi). Drummer/producer John Louis Richardson has similar roots, brushes with greatness and dubious associations. Among them, Joey Molland's Badfinger, Tommy Keene, Gin Blossoms, Keene Brothers, Jay Bennett, Will Hoge. He still plays live and records with DIY power pop pioneers and long time friends, Shoes. John runs his Drum Farm Studio in Menomonie, Wisconsin. A major through-line for the album Ours & amp; Life-events shaped others due to the passing of longtime mutual friend and bandmate Tommy Keene. As an inspirational figure who opened for The Matthew Sweet band, toured with Velvet Crush, and played in Richardson's band, the impact of his loss was significant. This led to the inclusion of Keene's song “Baby Face” on the album, as well as aiding in the completion of the track “Can't Let Go (Oh Tommy)”.   Paul's Info https://www.instagram.com/smallish.square/ https://www.facebook.com/TheSmallSquare https://www.youtube.com/@TheSmallSquareGroup https://www.smallsquaremusic.com/ https://farmtolabelrecords.com/artists/the-small-square/

The band's self-titled debut album, released on their own record label, Truly Independent Records, is a resume of their musical versatility. A record containing songs of the rock, psychedelic, dah-dah, easy listening, country and movie soundtrack variety. One international reviewer called it an indie rock classic and two tracks appeared on the Charity Compilation Shoulder to Shoulder alongside tracks by Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Robyn Hitchcock, Noel Gallagher, Pete Noone (Herman's Hermits) and Wishbone Ash. This collection was organised by David Quaife, whose brother Pete was the original bass player of the British rock legends The Kinks. Creation Records' Alan McGee even praised the album in question, even adding Hollywood stars like Matthew Modine, and Michael Keaton to the fan-base.

James Brown's Loaded Magazine was at the heart of the UK's cultural explosion in the mid-1990s. Despite the misperception that it was no more than soft porn, the magazine was built on fun, chaos, creativity and the desire to capture the voice of young men at a time when nobody was representing them. James learned his trade by making his fanzine 'Attack On Bzag' and was NME's features editor by the time he was 22. His story is among the greatest examples of using initiative, passion and play to overcome economic and cultural hurdles and make something unique, that had soul. He opens up about the ideas, attitude and methods behind it, and provides golden advice for those looking to thrive on their terms in troubled times. He would go on to edit GQ and Hotdog before creating Leeds, Leeds, Leeds Magazine through passion for his boyhood club, Leeds United and new time on his hand thanks to sobriety.

Benjamin Berton author of a new book on Daniel Treacy  in conversation with David Eastaugh "Dreamworld: The Fabulous Life of Daniel Treacy and his Band Television Personalities" London 1977: Daniel Treacy drops out of school, bored to death. Thanks to a few pounds sterling, lent to him by his parents, he records a few songs with friends and sends the finished single to the legendary radio DJ John Peel, who is immediately thrilled - the Television Personalities are born .. In the turbulent life of Daniel Treacy we meet Jimmy Page, Bob Marley, Alan McGee, David Gilmour, Wham!, Nico and Kurt Cobain. Dreamworld is the very real, very crazy story of a genius in music history whose importance is not infrequently compared to that of Mark E. Smith of The Fall. Enriched with plenty of scene and period colour from British pop from the 1960s to the present, "Dreamworld" tells of all the ups and downs of a legend who once ironically (but quite rightly) described himself in an interview as the "Godfather of Indie Pop". The English translation by David Marshall is published with a completely revised colour picture section and numerous illustrations.

Midlands-based post-punk band Death Of The High Street hit the scene last year with a very strong vote of confidence: their debut single was released by Creation Records empresario Alan McGee, on his new label named It's Creation Baby. Their latest single continues their reign of dark, driving, pulsating sound.  “Synergy is a mantra. A reminder that the collective struggle is more important than the individual," the band shared in a press statement. "We should remember, no matter the importance we place on the person, no matter how much the powers that be attempt to single us out and turn us into consumerist automations, we will only really know ourselves properly when we interact with those around us.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They played with bands like the Violent Femmes, Jesus and Mary Chain and The Go-Betweens, recorded a Peel Session, got tons of critical acclaim and got airplay on college stations all across the U.S. The band went on hiatus in 2001, reformed in 2010, played sporadic gigs here and there since then, put out a handful of new singles and have a new album brewing as we speak. Favorite Songs By

Today we're talking about our favorite songs by the Manchester lads who went on to become the biggest rock stars in the world - that's right listeners, today we're talking about the bad boys of Britpop - it's OASIS! Famous for songs 'Wonderwall', 'Live Forever', 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and 'Cigarettes and Alcohol', the band started in 1991, when Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam, Paul Bonehead Arthurs, (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar), and Tony McCarroll (drums). The band was called The Rain before Noel joined, but they swiftly changed the name to Oasis. With various lineup changes over the years, the Gallagher brothers remained the core members throughout. Signing to Alan McGee's Creation Records in '93, they put out what's been often labelled as one of the best debut albums ever - Definitely Maybe. Lined with hits like 'Live Forever', 'Supersonic' and 'Cigarettes and Alcohol', they become overnight rock'n'roll stars, with their chaotic antics filling front pages of the tabloids. Their second album took them to a whole other level. Replacing drummer Tony McCarroll with Alan White, they embarked on What's The Story (Morning Glory), which was released to much hype and expectation in 1995 at the peak of Britpop rivalry with Blur,. Although at first receiving negative reviews in the press, the album went on to become one of the highest selling albums of all time, and the biggest selling UK album of the '90s. Declaring themselves 'bigger than God', they then put out one of the most hyped albums in history, 'Be Here Now', which, despite it's lavish Rolls Royce in a mansion's pool album cover and initial critical acclaim, failed to live up to expectation. Disbanding in 2009, Oasis ended up releasing 7 studio albums, and remain one of the highest selling bands of all time, with eight UK number one singles, and eight UK number one albums, as well as three platinum albums in the US - not to mention a swag of awards including 6 Brits and 2 Grammys. Let's roll with it, don't look back in anger, and stock up on cigarettes and alochol, because its time to to discuss our favorite songs by Oasis.

We're back!! Farfisa Dave is an incredible guest and such a good sport; we are so excited about this one! Dave was the keyboard/piano player on the TVP's dark classic LP The Painted Word, as well as hired hand on basically all of the early Creation singles. Dave also did sound in Alan McGee's early club, The Living Room, and he apparently was doing sound for the first Jesus & Mary Chain show in London. (And yes, the clanky sound you hear during the interview is his teacup hitting the saucer.) Links to the songs in question are included below, and we highly recommend you check out the Biff Bang Pow! compilations available on CD and on streaming services. —————————— LINKS: Songs: BBP! “Fifty Years of Fun” : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpjZqKEhNXI BBP! “Then When I Scream”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWIKLZ_iNbI Jackie Edwards “Keep On Running”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdJGyf-iJE4 Spencer Davis Group “Keep On Running”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrxHcSZBU38 Teenage Filmstars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsJGl-LZF5U —————————— BBP & TVPs streaming links: BBP's The Singles As and Bs: https://open.spotify.com/album/4ZvKQzPNI2k5ti1JGp4Gfd?si=AhiDXsT3TxmBfLc0kffsHw BBP's Waterbomb (best of collection): https://open.spotify.com/album/7aseYjnUQdpUYAwxtoLf9c?si=WQ14W6xkTjusYdQXv0aiZA TVPs' The Painted Word: https://open.spotify.com/album/5tHPUWkWOYLbwDArQB7X8U?si=lQIQIgmGTz601holul3L9w —————————— Infamous Euro tour photos: https://indiethroughthelookingglass.com/2020/09/26/creation-records-package-tour-europe-1984/ —————————— Stuff that comes up: Creation Records Laughing Apple Spencer Davis Group Jackie Edwards Dan Treacy Jowe Head Biff Bang Pow!
