Edgar Wright's Baby Driver kept us on the edge of our seats with its tale of a high stakes getaway driver named Baby (Ansel Elgort), and his struggle to get out of the business he's been locked into. The story may have gotten our heart pumping, but the added element of sound that courses throughout the film is what truly makes the Academy Award nominated film so spectacular. In this special episode of Hype Podcast, our co-host Pamela Gocobachi sits down with 2018 Oscar nominee Julian Slater ahead of Sunday night's awards to discuss how he went about creating the journey of sound that's featured in Edgar Wright's unique film.  Julian Slater, who served as the film's sound designer/supervising sound editor/re-recording mixer, scooped up two of Baby Driver's three nominations this year, including a solo nod for Best Achievement in Sound Editing, and one for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing alongside Tim Cavagin and Mary H. Ellis.

Along with our rarely heard from yet frequently mentioned special guest Edel Níc Cába, this week on the show, we talked about the 2017 incarnation of Stephen King's "It", with the movie being justifiably lavished with praise. We also compared and contrasted the book against the movie, as though it were a leaving cert English assignment, but hopefully in as entertaining and pithy a manner as possible!   In part 2, we talked about people's greatest fears and Aidan's sign-off tagline was finally successfully stolen, but by whom?!    Next week, we'll be discussing Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver". The question of the week will be:   What are the greatest vehicles in movies & T.V.?    Let us know any thoughts via the usual contact channels below. See you next time. On this week Danny reviews the gentle rom-com Hampstead starring Diane Keaton which is basically a remake of Annie Hall but with a happier ending, 500 less jokes and a chubby bearded tramp instead of Woody Allen. Then he join forces with Sam to tackle two refreshingly original films from two of cinema's most inventive directors. First up is Edgar Wright's Baby Driver which makes up for it's disappointingly non literal title by being totally rad. Then they laugh, cry, embrace veganism and develop a powerful crush on Paul Dano while discussing Bong Joon Ho's Okja. PLUS they discuss all the rumours around the trouble Han Solo movie, speculate about a Bond cinematic universe and try and work out why Andrew Garfield has adopted what is possibly the dumbest accent ever for his new film Breathe. Yes, listeners, it's fair to say that the reaction from Steve Norman, Owen Hughes and Callum Petch to Transformers 5 / Transformers: The Last Knight / Trans5mers was less than positive. Perhaps it was the lack of Vince DiCola and Stan Bush that sours those films so..?  Not even listening to the all-time greatest movie soundtrack ever no backsies can change our opinion. I say it's the greatest movie soundtrack ever, but Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, which is also reviewed on this episode, may have something to say on that matter! In What We've Been Watching, we also cover another new release, The Book of Henry, as well as The Skeleton Twins, 80's exploitation Contamination, and last year's War Dogs....
