We are kicking the new year off with a trip down memory lane, as we have some nostalgic childhood picks for you! Samantha recommends Lois Lowry's novel The Giver, Indy revisits the animated Transformers movie, and we get ready to think pink with next week's big watch; Barbie! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa The Giver is a 1993 American young adult dystopian novel written by Lois Lowry, set in a society which at first appears to be utopian but is revealed to be dystopian as the story progresses. In the novel, the society has taken away pain and strife by converting to "Sameness", a plan that has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives. In an effort to preserve order, the society also lacks any color, climate, terrain, and a true sense of equality. The protagonist of the story, a 12-year-old boy named Jonas, is selected to inherit the position of Receiver of Memory, the person who stores all the memories of the time before Sameness. Jonas struggles with concepts of the new emotions and things introduced to him, and whether they are inherently good, evil, or in between, and whether it is possible to have one without the other. The Giver won the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. The Transformers: The Movie is a 1986 animated science fiction action film based on the Transformers television series. It was released in North America on August 8, 1986, and in the United Kingdom on December 12, 1986.[8] It was co-produced and directed by Nelson Shin, who also produced the television series. The screenplay was written by Ron Friedman, who created Bionic Six a year later. The film features the voices of Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta Jr., Scatman Crothers, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, and Orson Welles, who died 10 months before the film's release, in his final film role. The soundtrack comprises electronic music composed by Vince DiCola and songs from rock and heavy metal acts including Stan Bush and "Weird Al" Yankovic. Barbie is a 2023 fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach. Based on the eponymous fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated films and specials. The film stars Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken, and follows the pair on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis. The supporting cast includes America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

Originally released June 2018: The Transformers: The Movie is a six million dollar animated film that came out in 1986, co-produced and directed by Nelson Shin, who also produced the original The Transformers television series on which the film was based. The origins of that cartoon series was a line of toys produced by Hasbro, based on designs which originated in Japan, vehicles which transformed into robots. The film spawned an amazing hard rock soundtrack which is the focus of today's episode. On this episode you will hear conversations BJ had with Stan Bush, who wrote and sang the first single from the soundtrack, "The Touch," Vince Dicola, who wrote the song "Dare," also sung by Stan Bush (Vince also wrote the score for the film), and members from the three bands featured on the soundtrack: Jerry Best, bassist from Lion, who recorded a heavy metal version of The Transformers theme, Ernie Petrangelo, guitarist and songwriter from Rhode Island metal band NRG, responsible for the killer track "Instruments of Destruction," and Larry Gillstrom, guitarist from Canadian heavy metal band Kick Axe, who were credited as Spectre General for the soundtrack, they contributed two songs, "Nothing's Gonna Stand In Our Way" and "Hunger." This episode is a deep dive into one of the funnest movie soundtracks of the eighties. It's more than meets the ear! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hello and welcome back to the podcast! In this episode, prepare to be transformed as I continue my mini-series entitled “TV Goes To The Movies” and now explore the music for THE TRANSFORMERS franchise. As before, my focus is musically what was or was not carried over from the television episodes of a particular series to its respective theatrical feature, such as the main TV theme or scoring style. During its near 40 year history, from the original 1984 syndicated cartoon series, to the animated and live action movies, the Japanese-only series and more, music for the THE TRANSFORMERS has been remarkably varied. The vocal and score tracks have often reflected current or trendy musical approaches, leading to elements of lush symphonic strains, synth pop, hard rock and jazzy funk all being heard in various incarnations. Now, hold on to your crankshafts and let's transform and roll out! Title playtime index: Intro - 00:00:00 THE TRANSFORMERS (US, 1984 cartoon series, theme by Anne Bryant & Ford Kinder, score by Johnny Douglas and Robert J. SECRET INVASION...OF A.I.: Marvel seems to have hamstrung the release of its new Disney+ series, Secret Invasion, when viewers quickly noticed the apparent artlessness of the show's opening credits and that they seemed to have used A.I. engines to create it instead of, you know, any of the artists it employs. STIFLED PRODIGY: Paramount+ has been on a Star Trek kick for the last few years, but all might not be as rosy at it seems. Not only has it cancelled the all-ages-aimed animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy, it has also removed all the episodes from their proprietary streaming service––even though season 2 is wrapping production. A BEAST OF A SURPRISE: D. Bethel takes a moment to discuss Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and how it pleasantly surprises in terms of actually being a good Transformers movie (who knew?). ;)Weiterlesen »

Film composer Vince DiCola had never scored an entire movie before in the mid-80s. But once actor/director Sylvester Stallone heard a few of his demo tracks for Rocky IV, he decided to hire DiCola for the gig. That film ended up being one of the most financially successful movies of the Rocky franchise. In fact, earlier this summer, Stallone announced a re-release of the film with a "Director's Cut," to hit theaters in November. Join host Eddie Robinson as he chats candidly with the mastermind behind the music of Rocky IV, Vince DiCola. Plus, I SEE U could not produce a Rocky feature without exploring the signature Rocky hymnal, "Eye of The Tiger," and Eddie catches up with the song's writer/producer, Grammy-award winning Frankie Sullivan of the vintage rock band, Survivor.

[GROUP PICK] "You got the touch... You got the power!!!!... YEAH!...." The year is 1986, the golden age of inspirational movie montage music, and a little television show/toy line for children was about to grow the fuck up. After two seasons and a couple of successful lines of toys, Hasbro and Marvel were ready to take "The Transformers" to the silver screen, and they pulled off quite the project. With "The Transformers: The Movie," they brought in some huge talent, such as Leonard Nemoy, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, and Orson Welles to name a few, and wrote a gritty space opera that was somewhere between "Heavy Metal" and "Star Wars..." ...oh, that, and a badass hair metal/synth wave electronic powerhouse soundtrack! Every track just drips with pure 80s sound, with Stan Bush on the power ballads, NRG (later known as Damn Cheetah) & Spectre General lending some heavy hitting metal tunes, and Lion creating possibly the best recreation of a children's cartoon theme ever. Even the brooding synth score, done by Vince DiCola is dynamic and emotional, and gives the movie more gravitas than you would expect for one based on children's toys. However, even with all that and the inclusion of Weird Al Yankovic's much revered classic "Dare to Be Stupid," "The Transformers: The Movie" was a box office failure, making not even $2 million opening weekend, and caused Hasbro to rethink their involvement in future big screen releases (also, weirdly, it was Orson Welles' last film). It has stood the test of time though, becoming a cult classic for it's gritty approach to storytelling along with it's epic music montages that keep you locked in from start to finish... So grab a bowl of cereal, dust off your VHS player, and join us for the peak of the Saturday Morning Cartoon experience with "The Transformers: The Movie" the Soundtrack... with Brad, Jon, Transformer's expert (as well as Brad's older brother) Scott, and Alex & Griffin, members of local cow punk band, Wood Chickens! We're here in the nick of time with a podcast full of counter-programming for the holiday music cropping up everywhere around you. We got you fam. This week, Anthony, Paul and Jeremy tackle the self-referential music of the everything-referential game Saturday Morning RPG, by Vince DiCola and Kenny Meriedeth. Jeremy opines that the technical guitar and smooth synth are highly overlooked in the pantheon of game music, and we get a dose of Stemage RIGHT IN THE FACE. Paul transitions us to the baller sounds of Grand Theft Auto V (volume 2), the musical score discs from the big box set, and we spend a lot of time having Tangerine Dream..s. In our second segment we round out the new releases you've been dying not to not pay money for, including a few cool represses and even a rumour or two! And lastly, to round out our loquacious third segment, we discuss the dirty little topic of MONEY and SPENDING and COMMERCE. Our biggest spends? Our greatest bargains? The Transformers: The Movie is a 6 million dollar animated film that came out in 1986, co-produced and directed by Nelson Shin, who also produced the original The Transformers television series on which the film was based. The origins of that cartoon series was a line of toys produced by Hasbro, based on designs which originated in Japan, toys that were vehicles which transformed into robots. The film spawned an amazing hard rock soundtrack which is the focus of today’s episode. On this episode you will hear conversations BJ had with Stan Bush, who wrote and sang the first single from the soundtrack, "The Touch," Vince Dicola, who wrote the song "Dare," also sung by Stan Bush (Vince also wrote the score for the film), and members from the three bands featured on the soundtrack: Jerry Best, bassist from Lion, who recorded a heavy metal version of The Transformers theme, Ernie Petrangelo, guitarist and songwriter from Rhode island metal band NRG, responsible for the killer track "Instruments of Destruction," and Larry Gillstrom, guitarist from Canadian heavy metal band Kick Axe, who were credited as Spectre General for the soundtrack, they contributed two songs, "Nothing’s Gonna Stand In Our Way" and "Hunger." This episode is a deep dive into one of the funnest movie soundtracks of the eighties. It's more than meets the ear!

Hey, y'all! Adrian here. As you'll soon discover, my guests and I went on a strange journey in this episode. George "norg" Nowik, Sean "Ailsean" Stone and Chuck "finbeard" Simpson are three-fifths of LONELYROLLINGSTARS, a video game tribute band that was formed by members of other "VGM" acts The Smash Bros., Viking Guitar Live and Armcannon. The band stopped by to promote their recently released sophomore album Sugarburger, which features arrangements of songs from games like Splatoon and Shovel Knight and Persona 4. In a conversation filled with many hilarious asides and tangents, the band discusses a plethora of topics: Their unconventional approach to songwriting, performing livewith Transformers: The Movie composer Vince DiCOla, the evolution of written language and the controversial nature of avocados. Like I said: we go on a wild journey in this episode. Strap yourselves in and just enjoy the ride.

If you had to summarize this week's episode in a few words, they would definitively be "more than meets the eye". Asian Jon and Average Joe look back on Justice League's second weekend at the box office and cry over what the future of the DC movie universe looks like in light of the news; but is there hope for this franchise? Then we take a trip back to 1986 to then go to 2005 which is the future but is actually the past for us in 2017 to talk about "The Transformers: The Movie". How does the classic animated series translate to the big screen? What were the reasons for deciding to make a major motion picture about these characters? How does it hold up? Does it compare to the live action films? Does Average Joe get to keep his $50? Music and audio from "The Transformers: The Movie" is the property of Vince DiCola, Joe Bacal, Tom Griffith, Nelson Shin, Hasbro, Sunbow Productions, Marvel Productions, and Toei Animation. Dare! Dare to believe you can survive [another Michael Bay Transformers movie]. You hold the future in your hand. Dare. Dare to keep all of your dreams alive [of never having to sit through another one]. It's time to take a stand. And you can win, if you dare [to stay home when the Bumblebee solo film comes out]. Yes, listeners, it's fair to say that the reaction from Steve Norman, Owen Hughes and Callum Petch to Transformers 5 / Transformers: The Last Knight / Trans5mers was less than positive. Perhaps it was the lack of Vince DiCola and Stan Bush that sours those films so..? Not even listening to the all-time greatest movie soundtrack ever no backsies can change our opinion. I say it's the greatest movie soundtrack ever, but Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, which is also reviewed on this episode, may have something to say on that matter! In What We've Been Watching, we also cover another new release, The Book of Henry, as well as The Skeleton Twins, 80's exploitation Contamination, and last year's War Dogs.... Join us as we discuss (1) our utter lack of Marvel Productions knowledge, (2) Vince DiCola and Rocky IV, (3) the size of Unicron, (4) lithonian shopping malls, (5) unfortunate cultural insensitivity, and (6) the attractiveness of robotic females.
In this episode we do battle with the Decepticons in the original feature length film of the popular TV series, The Transformers. In this episode we concentrate solely on soundtrack songs from the Commodore 64, one of the main home computers of the 80's and early 90's. We hear a lot of tracks from Western composers who were largely influenced by the electronic music popular in Europe at the time. If you aren't familiar with the C64 and its SID sound chip, definitely give this a listen -- lots of good music came out of this era!I should have given a shout-out to Stone Oakvalley's Authentic SID Collection, where you can get most of the tracks we played this episode as MP3s.Oh, and sorry this episode is a week late. We try to stick to every other Wednesday, but sometimes life gets in the way!Download MP3 Tracklist (full info here):
