In this episode, you'll learn from myself, Dr. Hannah Hamlin, and Dr. Scott Spiridigliozzi about Elemental Protein Bar—our clinic's protein bar that's gut friendly. I developed the Elemental Protein Bar based on the success of our Elemental Heal meal replacement shake, which helps reduce gut inflammation and symptoms associated with IBS, SIBO, and other digestive disorders. Compared to traditional protein bars on the market, our Elemental Protein Bar is made without prebiotic sweeteners that cause gut irritation and blood sugar swings. Hear how our protein bar that's gut-friendly has eased Dr. Scott and I's digestive woes and helped Dr. Hannah stabilize her blood sugar. In this episode, the spotlight is on Sally's successful gut healing story. While Sally tried a low histamine diet and other remedies on her own, she didn't find relief of her chronic GI and histamine-related symptoms until working with Dr. Hannah Hamlin from our clinic. Taking note of Sally's symptoms, labs, medical history, and previous treatments she's tried, Dr. Hamlin devised a plan with two of our clinic's most effective therapies: triple therapy probiotics and an elemental diet. Hear how these remedies helped Sally feel more confident about what she can eat and provided her with the healing she was looking for. More than 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates suggested all disease begins in the gut. He was mostly right, and we’ve talked about the gut many times on this podcast – in relation to athletic performance, optimising the gut microbiome, and even how to use probiotics. But a couple of weeks ago I realized that we’ve never talked specifically and in depth about exactly what to do when you have a gut problem. GI issues are where I started my health journey, and probably bring more clients through our doors than any other condition, and they can affect absolutely anyone - athlete or not. On this podcast, NBT Scientific Director Megan Hall and I are talking about the steps to take when your gut isn’t working right. We talk about how things tend to go awry in the first place, signs and symptoms that you have a gut problem, and the first things to try to get quick relief. Megan also discusses the most scientifically-validated lifestyle modifications, supplements, and lab tests to try, as well as the pros and cons of using antimicrobials. The elemental diet is the most impactful data-backed treatment for SIBO. And yet, it’s often misused, misunderstood and generally met with last resort trepidation. Today on the podcast, I’m joined by Dr. Michael Ruscio to demystify this approach and talk more about how he uses it for SIBO treatment, IBD, celiac, and other cases involving a highly-damaged gut. For those who thought you could never last two weeks only drinking your calories (ahem, I get it), Dr. Ruscio provides plenty of flexibility and advice on using the elemental diet as a meal replacement supplement. You guys have been asking for this episode, so I’d love to hear what you think! Juan was facing an autoimmune arthritis condition, gut issues, and infertility. After trying a prescription drug that made him feel worse, he turned to healing his gut and mixed fasting with the elemental diet. In taking these steps, Juan was able to eliminate his symptoms—like joint pain, fatigue, and inflammation—and his wife became pregnant. The elemental diet is a liquid diet in which the contents are broken down into essential elements that can be quickly absorbed by the gut. Elemental Heal is the elemental diet formula that Juan used. If you’ve already tried diet, lifestyle, probiotics, and other interventions and still have lingering symptoms, personalizing the elemental diet (explained below) may be a good option to explore. https://drruscio.com/?p=32206 My book Healthy Gut, Healthy You is available at https://drruscio.com/getgutbook/ Looking for more? As complex cases of SIBO and IBD rise, so has our awareness of the Elemental Diet. Yet there is still confusion amongst practitioners about how to best implement this therapeutic protocol — for how long, how intensely (semi vs. full) and whether to do the diet concurrent or apart from other treatments. Dr. Ruscio helps us to think ‘out of the box’ in this week’s episode.
