Mindframes Show Notes I Love Boosters (2026) — Episode 118 Directed by: Boots Riley Written by: Boots Riley Starring: Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, Demi Moore Cinematography: Natasha Braier Costume Design: Shirley Kurata Score: Tune-Yards Distributor: Neon IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30827810/ Episode Summary In this episode of Mindframes, Michael and Dave discuss I Love Boosters (2026) — the sophomore feature from writer-director Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You). And they didn't just watch it: Boots Riley was at their screening, making this a particularly special episode. The film follows the Velvet Gang, a crew of professional shoplifters — or "boosters" — led by Corvette (Keke Palmer), who steal high-end fashion and redistribute it to their community at affordable prices, calling it "fashion-forward philanthropy." Their target: Christie Smith (Demi Moore), a cutthroat fashion maven who has stolen Corvette's own designs and passed them off as her own. Michael and Dave dig into Riley's political vision and whether the film preaches or persuades, Keke Palmer's career-best performance, the stunning visual craft from cinematographer Natasha Braier and costume designer Shirley Kurata, and the film's surrealist escalation into sci-fi territory. The spoiler section tackles the film's central question head-on: can style — and collective action — actually be a revolutionary act? Michael gives the film 4 stars. Dave gives it 4.5 stars.

Was habt ihr zuletzt gesehen? Heute in groß bei KINO PLUS. Heißt: Eddie, Andi und Schröck palavern über THEY WILL KILL YOU, über DRACHENZÄHMEN LEICHT GEMACHT (das Remake) oder READY OR NOT 2. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This is my first ever film review on this channel. I discuss the Nicolas Winding Refn flick from 2008 titled 'Bronson'. It stars Tom Hardy and it is a wild fun ride, but misses something very important.

Tonight on Sessions, Mark Radulich and Jesse Starcher revisit the TV Party Tonight review of Too Old to Die Young, Nicolas Winding Refn's polarizing Amazon Prime series co-written with Ed Brubaker. Joined in that original discussion by Robert Winfree, the review became a long, winding, often exasperated examination of a show defined by extreme pacing, prolonged silence, stylized violence, and an almost confrontational rejection of traditional television storytelling. In this episode of Sessions, Mark and Jesse look back at that conversation—not to re-litigate the show, but to transform it. Using AI tools like Suno and ChatGPT, they take the tone, themes, jokes, frustration, and philosophical detours from the original podcast and compress them into music. What emerges is a song shaped by endurance, absurdity, dark humor, and the strange experience of sitting with a work that refuses to meet its audience halfway. This is Sessions: old conversations, new forms, and art distilled through sound.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
In Episode 365 of Jay Movie Talk, I continue January's Loners, Drifters, & Outsiders series with a dive into Drive. One of the most polarizing and influential films of the 2010s.This episode explores the Driver as a modern loner: a man defined by silence, routine, and strict personal code. I talk about how the film uses restraint, minimal dialogue, and sudden violence to tell its story, and why Drive continues to spark debate over whether it's style over substance or something far more layered.i break down the film's direction, performances, and atmosphere, including:*Ryan Gosling's internalized, minimalist performance*Nicolas Winding Refn's controlled visual style*The role of silence and routine in character development*The shocking use of violence and moral consequences *Cliff Martinez's iconic score and its impact on the film's identity.Whether you love this movie or bounced off it, there's a conversation to be had. and that's exactly what this episode is about.

Steven DeLay joins Thomas for a conversation about the 2011 film Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling. Analyzing the subversive and psyop-heavy intentions behind the movie, they conclude that Drive retains some profoundly redemptive qualities despite those designs. Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we return to one of our earlier subjects: Ryan Gosling! Our B-Sides are The Ides of March, Gangster Squad, Only God Forgives, and First Man. Our guest is our dear friend Cory Everett, creator of Cinephile: A Card Game! We talk about Gosling's television career as a young man, his quick rise to stardom, and surprise nomination for Half Nelson fairly early on in his run. He's been searching for his lifelong directorial muse. There's been Derek Cianfrance, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Damien Chazelle. Will he ever find the one? There's that iconic Rachel McAdams kiss at the MTV Movie Awards, the acceleration of his “coolness” after the success of The Notebook all the way through the release of Drive, and that iconic, ever-changing voice of his. There's also those beautiful, weird Gosling eyes. There's also discussion about George Clooney as a filmmaker, his first film and Charlie Kaufman dislike of it, and his progression (regression?) as a director. The merits of Winding Refn are also debated. We all remember when William Friedkin ridiculed Nicolas Winding Refn for calling Only God Forgives a masterpiece. And if you have not as of yet, you should watch the documentary My Life Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.

Take a drink every time we say, "Naked Greased Up Tom Hardy!"Tonight on a special birthday edition of Triple Feature, Mark Radulich is joined by the other two wise men of The Radulich in Broadcasting Network—Robert Winfree and Jesse Starcher—for a stylish, provocative, and ultra-violent journey through the films of Nicolas Winding Refn (and one by Refn's spiritual cousin, Winding Hardy). In this episode, the trio revisit their creative bond forged in blood during their review of Too Old to Die Young, and now explore three equally intense visual feasts: Drive, Bronson, and The Neon Demon. They discuss how these films portray masculinity, performance, ambition, and destruction through uniquely artistic lenses, and reflect on the surreal legacy Refn and company have carved into modern cinema. Ryan Gosling's auramaxxing, what qualifies as neo-noir, the strange misogyny that's given off by issues like NWR's original goal of casting a porn star as Blanche, and the horrible-person-to-regular-person ratio in Baby Driver comprise some of the talking points for this episode.Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Oscar Isaac, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks, Kaden Leos, James Biberi, Jeff Wolfe, and Russ Tamblyn.Spoilers start at 44:00Nicolas Winding Refn - Drive Q&AHow Ryan Gosling Ended Up in ‘Drive,' According to Director Nicolas Winding RefnCreate your podcast today! #madeonzencastrHere's how you can learn more about Palestine and IsraelHere's how you can keep up-to-date on this genocideHere's how you can send eSIM cards to Palestinians in order to help them stay connected onlineGood Word:• Anna: The Studio• Arthur: Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee BakerReach out at email2centscritic@yahoo.com if you want to recommend things to watch and read, share anecdotes, or just say hello!Be sure to subscribe, rate, and review on iTunes or any of your preferred podcasting platforms!Follow Arthur on Twitter, Goodpods, StoryGraph, Letterboxd, and TikTok: @arthur_ant18Follow Arthur on Bluesky: @arthur-ant18Follow the podcast on Twitter: @two_centscriticFollow the podcast on Instagram: @twocentscriticpodFollow Arthur on GoodreadsCheck out 2 Cents Critic Linktree

If you thought Drive was a stylish slow burn, this one cranks up the stillness, strips back the dialogue, and drops you into a hallucinatory revenge opera that's equal parts mesmerizing and maddening.Ryan Gosling stars as Julian, a quiet, emotionally blank drug smuggler running a Muay Thai gym as a front in Bangkok. When his volatile brother Billy is murdered for committing an unspeakable crime, their monstrous mother Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) arrives in town demanding vengeance. Julian is reluctantly pulled into a spiral of violence and surreal symbolism, facing off against Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm), a sword-wielding police lieutenant who dispenses his own brutal, godlike justice. Refn drenches the screen in glowing reds and deep shadows, pairing every scene with an eerie, droning score from Cliff Martinez. The film is light on plot and even lighter on dialogue—Gosling speaks fewer than 20 lines—but the atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a katana.Only God Forgives is a fever dream of a film—icy cold yet visually scorching. It's like a revenge thriller that's been put through a Lynchian blender, leaving behind a hushed, haunted meditation on masculinity, vengeance, and judgement. If you want action, go elsewhere. If you want mood and madness, step right in.

On this episode, I chat with writer, educator, film historian and friend of the pod Rich Johnson about two classic car movies: The Driver (1978, directed by Walter Hill), and Drive (2011, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn). We talk at length about the influence of the Western in both these films, the lineage of great car chase movies, and the importance of soundtrack in building a narrative with a (mostly) silent protagonist. Synopsis This film follows the teenage Jessie, played by Elle Fanning, who moves to LA with dreams of becoming a model. She meets some veterans in the industry, Rubi, Gigi, and Sarah and forms a friendship turned rivalry with them as they all try to make it to the top. Jessie soon learns the ways of the cutthroat world of modeling, and how everyone around her would do heinous things for her youthful beauty. Review I absolutely love this film. This is my third watch, and I swear it has gotten better every time I've seen it. The cinematography, coming from the iconic Nicolas Winding Refn, is something to be revered. The way he uses color and light and blocking to symbolize changes in character's personalities and ways of life is astounding. This film is gorgeous, and the message it conveys is something that women can all understand and relate to, regardless if you're a model or not. It's a deep dive on beauty standards and the predatory nature of society towards women, and little girl's beauty in general. This isn't scary at all visually, but there are some horrific scenes and imagery that might make you look away from the screen. All in all, it's a fantastic film, and criminally underrated. Score 10/10

The film, set in a small comminuty in the Scottish Highlands in the 1970s, tells the story of Bess McNeill, a simply, godly woman who marries outsider oil rig worker Jan. When Jan is paralyzed after a work accident, he compels Bess to take other lovers in order to "keep him alive"...a task which she steadily comes to believe has divine connotations. Shot in 35mm 'scope with the great Robby Muller behind the camera, the film is a visually staggering work broaching difficult subject matter in the realms of faith, sexuality, and patriarchy all rendered in Von Trier's singular tenor, equal parts brutal, earnest, and cheekily playful. We discuss the career of Von Trier, his work as a founding member of the Dogme95 collective, and the later period evolution of his storytelling. Then, we wrestle with the film's themes and execution of its ideas. Does the movie hold up for a longtime devotee and a newcomer alike? Finally, we try to make sense of Von Trier's oeuvre, and what - if anything - could be considered the trademarks of his style.Follow Liam Billingham on Twitter.Listen and subscribe to Die Hard On A Blank Podcast.Read & Subscribe to Peter Raleigh's Newsletter 'Long Library'. ....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish
