Send us a textCan the Green Party truly champion the working class? Join us as we ignite this fiery debate, only to find ourselves amidst a charged discussion on racial identity and personal integrity. As the dust settles, we pivot to a celebration of our top five hip hop albums of the decade, featuring game-changing records like Rich Gang, Dirty Sprite 2, Acid Rap, and To Pimp a Butterfly. Our differing viewpoints on whether an album's impact or personal enjoyment holds more weight reveal the unique lenses through which we view music. Our conversation takes a lively turn as we dish about our current musical obsessions, spotlighting artists like Katy Perry, Doechi, and Taylor Swift. But we don't stop there—ever wondered about the ethics of betting on celebrity pregnancies? We tackle this head-on with a dose of humor, all while delving into the bizarre world of modern celebrity life. The playful banter continues with a deep dive into Diddy's ongoing legal woes, Elon Musk's unsettling tweet at Taylor Swift, and the conspiracy theories swirling around Diddy's dramatic fall from grace. As we wind down, we confront the thorny issues of comedy, race, and accountability, sparked by Andrew Schultz's controversial joke about black women. We unpack the responsibilities of podcast guests in doing their homework and the heartbreak of discovering problematic behavior from beloved creators. Our discussion doesn't shy away from the complexities of genre-hopping in music, using Doechi's transition from hip-hop to pop as a case study. From political intrigue to police militarization, and the challenges of navigating public personas, we invite you to join us in exploring these multifaceted topics.

"A rap game Ferris Bueller." "Fun and life affirming." That's what Pitchfork called the buzziest mixtape of 2013: Chance the Rapper's Acid Rap. The mixtape launched Chance's career and put him alongside some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. To commemorate Acid Rap's 10-year anniversary, Sam chats with Chance about his time touring with Mac Miller, Donald Glover, Eminem, and Macklemore after the mixtape's release; his relationship with Kanye West; and how hip-hop — and his own view of politics — has changed in the decade since. Thank you to Detroit's own/Hip-Hop legend Esham for coming on my show for an interview! Esham discussed his new album Purgatory, how the album is a true reflection of who he is as a person today, and why he opened the album up with Active Shooter. He talked about being independent because no one would give him a major label deal, regretting not speaking up against those who labeled him as a satanist, and the character that he made up of himself for his album Tongues. He got into being stopped on stage during a Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff performance, the rumors of 2Pac riding around playing his album Judgement Day, and being the first Hip-Hop artist to ever release a double album. Esham also spoke about being the innovator of acid rap, moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota to look for Prince before he passed away, and getting an associates degree in culinary arts. Stay tuned! Welcome back to the Record Report We've made it to season 3, and thank you all for staying with us! For this episode, we'll be diving into Chance the Rapper's sophomore mixtape Acid Rap. When Chance the Rapper dropped Acid Rap in 2013, music was in a transitional period. It was a time when Chicago already had its lead star in Kanye West, who made mainstream headlines for My Dark Twisted Fantasy, and the growth of the GOOD Music record label. The Chi also had a budding internet music scene thanks to Chief Keef's 2012 viral hit "I Don't Like," bringing the city's Drill scene to a national audience. However, Chance reached the blog scene with his debut project, 10 Day Tape, but really started building momentum toward his sophomore project Acid Rap. The LP was the perfect storm for the artist, featuring a diverse array of sound as well as a slew of stars including Childish Gambino, Twista, Saba, Vic Mensa, Action Bronson, and NoName. In our Season 3 premiere, we choose our top 5 songs and talk about Acid Rap's greatness, how pivotal the album was in the music world at the peak of the blog era, and Chance's growth in the music industry. We also talk about listening to old Kanye in the 2020s and what we've been listening to lately. @Yo_Ahki/@VanceB_ Listen to this new episode and previous others on: Apple Podcasts (https://tinyurl.com/jydzz9fk) Spotify (https://tinyurl.com/c3u77hcf) Anchor (https://anchor.fm/recordreport) Follow Record Report Podcast on: Instagram: (@RecordRepPod) Facebook: Facebook.com/RecordReportPodcast Twitter: https://twitter.com/recreppodcast?lang=en #ChancetheRapper #Chicago #ChiefKeef #2013 #AcidRap #KanyeWest #LilYachty #YoYo #Radio #Podcast

“10 Days” and “Acid Rap” transformed Chance the Rapper into the critical darling of hip-hop – something that his third mixtape, “Coloring Book”, only further cemented in 2016. But after his debut album, “The Big Day”, dropped in 2019, many of his fans became convinced that Chance had lost his magic touch. Criticisms leveled at this project would result in Chance stepping away from the spotlight to get his career back on track. Today, he's gearing up for his big return. Has Chance the Rapper learned from his previous mistakes and is he finally ready to reclaim his spot atop the rap game? Let's find out in our newest episode of Where Are They Now!

In this episode, I talked to Ryan about his content creation at music festivals, his extensive records collections and his growing appetite for whiskey. Ryan has over 140 records in his collection, including the limited press of Chance the Rapper's "Acid Rap" and has tried whiskey aged in a barrel at sea. IGH! It's The Big Day today, Stoppies, the Season 3 Premiere of Make It Stop! And to celebrate our Big Day, we're reviewing... The Big Day! Chance The Rapper's "first album" and massive fall from grace. After dropping his all time classic mixtape Acid Rap and following it up with the massively successful gospel rap fusion of Coloring Book, Chance finally released an official album -- a concept album about loving his wife, loving god, and really really REALLY loving his wife. Devoid of replay value or any remotely appealing elements and clocking in at over 70 minutes, The Big Day is in the running for biggest disappointment in hip-hop history. And is there something dark and sinister beneath the glossy surface? Is there a great pain and resentment lurking between the lines? Chance The Rapper Ex-Superfans Mike and Heather hit the studio by their lonesome to ponder these thoughts, searching for an answer to the grand question of WHY? WHY DID HE DO THIS? WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CHANCE? It's "great" to be back Stoppies! This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts
