In this episode of the Your Law Firm Success podcast, Stephen Moore interviews Brian Inkster, a prominent figure in the Scottish legal scene. They discuss Brian's journey in the legal profession, the innovative 'plug-and-play law' model he developed, and the importance of technology in modern legal services. Brian shares his scepticism towards AI hype and emphasises the need for law firms to focus on existing technologies that enhance efficiency. The conversation concludes with Brian's definition of success in the legal field, highlighting the importance of supporting solicitors in their practice. takeaways Brian Inkster describes his journey as an overnight success that took 25 years. The plug-and-play law model lets solicitors focus on practising law without administrative burdens. Early adoption of cloud technology has been crucial for Inkster's operations. Generative AI is often misunderstood; it lacks true intelligence and understanding. Lawyers have always used templates; AI should not replace this established practice. The legal process engineer role is vital for implementing technology effectively in law firms. AI can assist in summarizing documents but lacks the context needed for legal precision. The legal industry must not get distracted by AI hype and should focus on existing technologies. Brian's vision of success includes creating a supportive environment for solicitors. Efficiency in legal services can lead to happier lawyers and better client service.

Britain has a spy problem, with a significant surge in threats from China, Russia and Iran in recent months. What kind of covert operations are they running? Gavin Esler sits down with former MI6 director of operations and intelligence and director of transnational threats and political risk at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Nigel Inkster, to find out just how concerned we should be. • “We're seeing a significant upsurge in espionage and other forms of covert activity directed at western countries.” – Nigel Inkster • “At the end of the day, there is always going to be a role for the human source, for secret agents, because you need to know what is going on in the minds of key decision makers… you can't interrogate a tape recorder or a satellite.” – Nigel Inkster We are sponsored by Indeed. This week I'm highlighting an episode from the archive, with the engaging and talented Leslie DeShazor who is a multi-style violist, violinist and composer based in Detroit. She teaches students both through the Sphinx Organization and the Detroit Symphony as well as privately. She was named one of thirty Professional Movers and Shakers in the Performing Arts by Musical America in 2019 and in 2022 she released her jazz and R&B album “Journey With Me” which features herself as soloist, bandleader, and composer, and "Simply Complicated" from that album is part of this podcast episode. This conversation was full of stories and insights from Leslie's life. She shared valuable perspectives that educators, parents and anyone who mentors children and young adults will find inspiring and thought-provoking. We talked a lot about why kids quit playing music, why so many young adults today have trouble figuring out the direction of their life, and how the educational system can take away people's innate creativity and confidence. Feedback from listeners kicks off Episode 32, including about Nahanni Fontaine's MArch MAdness, already at #11 All-Time. - A Bell MTS employee caught our podcasts about layoff plans for Winnipeg and on Canada Day in Brandon and she's disgusted at how there's not been a peep from local MLA's or MP's about MTS favoring contracting out Call Centre jobs to cheap undertrained overseas labour. - Another comment came from a donor about MSM with 'perimeteritis' completely ignoring the legitimate values of Manitobans south of the city who have "a very real understanding of what government overreach is." Our funding campaign has an April 7 deadline- we're within $700 of our $3800 goal! Please help push us over the top by using the ActionLine.ca Donate Page 15:21 Part 2 - City Hall Round-up - Is the new Director of Property and Development, Hazel Borys, behind the harsh demand to alter the Fulton Grove housing plan? Considering it would chop 485 units from the development and make it unfeasible, you'd think the rail setback requirements would have been settled a long time ago- like say, before the City lost the lawsuit to Andrew Marquess. 23.30 - Transcona Councilor Russ Wyatt made a long Facebook post after the City budget was passed and he pulled no punches. Now council's official contrarian, you'll hear how he called "petty cuts" like closing neighborhood pools "mean-hearted" and the kind of idea bureaucrats used to be told to "stick in their ear!" Noting there are never suggestions to cut senior management expenses, Wyatt claimed "The City Hall system keeps councillors running from meeting to meeting, where they end up spending more time with unelected city staff," and his colleagues lose sight of their obligation to the voters that gave them their jobs, because of 'Stockholm Syndrome'. Wyatt also lauded the efforts of average residents from St. Boniface and Weston who spent countless hours trying to convince council to save their pools. 30.00- Happyland Park pool users launched a fundraising drive and Marty tells the details of the Happy Sport Campaign... We also give a shout out to Will and Courtney Gault for the tremendous charitable causes they've raised money for through Willy Dogs this season. We work hard to tell the stories of neighborhood businesses and residents and be YOUR VOICE! 36:37 Part 3- Crime And Public Safety Update - It's more than 3 inner-city convenience stores that have been torched in the last month, when Marty adds them all up- including one down the block from Dr. Joss Reimer's office. What's behind it, we wonder, a firebug? "competition"? or is it a protection racket? - Someone tell Nahanni Fontaine that late night shift workers on north Main Street face their own food desert- all the fast-food and convenience stores are closed overnight due to harassment and violence. - 44.00- According to a homeowner near Inkster and Main, a social services agency has abandoned proper supervision of a group home that "provides person-centered, crisis and treatment services to low and high-risk vulnerable and marginalized individuals living with mental illness and intellectual challenge in our community." The result? Seven visits by cops and 3 ambulances attended - IN A 24 HOUR Period. (This location is also, in Nahanni Fontaine's constituency. But since she sleeps at night in Lindenwoods, she doesn't care.) Other people with similar experiences chimed in with their own problem being labeled a 'NIMBY' for expecting a safe neighborhood where their girls aren't cat-called and exposed to degenerate behavior. "You're lucky you're still alive" wrote one woman - beaten in a home invasion - about Winnipeg, "the capital of CRISIS and CRIME." No, but from an NRL perspective, I believe there is merit to it on almost all occasions" "At the end of the day, the athlete is very accountable for the part they play in their own rehabilitation" "I am a big believer in that you should do at least a week and preferably two weeks of normal training before you start of playing again" "What does the normal week look like? Because if that is what they are used to doing they can probably do that in a rehabilitation schedule" "You can have a high load metabolically and a high load neurally and the main thing you have to remember is just don't put two high load days back to back” SHOWNOTES 1) Brendan's back story and how he got his start in professional rugby league 2) The evolution of the rehabilitation model in the NRL, interaction between different staff and the scan or no scan debate 3) The good and the bad of current return to play systems in rugby league 4) Roles and responsibilities in the rehabilitation and the interaction between a general S&C and a rehabilitation S&C 5) Consulting and including athletes in developing a rehabilitation plan 6) Roadblocks and traps in a rehabilitation process, including managing coach expectations, fast-tracking players and one person having to do it all 7) The most challenging rehabilitation in Brendan's experience 8) Setting up a rehabilitation program for players, high-low days and aligning the program with the NRL squad 9) Balancing out physiotherapy exercises with performance programming 10) Metrics and data to focus on during a rehabilitation and appropriate exit criteria to return to play, including advantages to giving the player the final say PEOPLE MENTIONED Aaron Murphy Donny Singe Balin Cupples Roger Tuivasa Sheck
Episode 12 is a return to our roots in talk radio, with a long-form interview of Mynarski ward Councilor Ross Eadie of Winnipeg's North End. 4:57- In Part 1, we asked Coun. Eadie about the city budget and Mayor Gillingham's repeated practice of issuing high interest debentures: "We have to fund by debt the North End sewage plant," he explained, as an example of long-term assets being financed. 10.00- "We have no more cash" because of property tax freezes in the past, and Eadie tells that the upcoming budget is going to see a change in the debt policy. "There's lots of people making lots of money in this City, believe me," Eadie said, in justifying potential tax and fee hikes. With Wab Kinew allowing school boards to hike taxes, we discuss if inner-city councilors are concerned that long-time homeowners are being squeezed. 12.50- Coun. Eadie comments on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's housing incentive "deal". What will the effect beof federally-influenced zoning changes in Mynarski? "It's going to change everything", by allowing a 4 plex anywhere from the Red River to about Sinclair, and all the way north to Leila. "It's going to change the whole look and feel of the neighborhoods", although Eadie assures this is a long, gradual process. 16.15- Next, Eadie responds to Coun. Brian Mayes' discovery about Parker Lands. Built as a transit oriented development, it somehow didn't qualify to be on the revised civic housing map. 18.00- Trudeau's Housing Accelerator Fund has "nothing to redevelop an area like Dufferin" - hear which areas in the north end are going to be targeted by developers. 19.36- Eadie describes how the HAF hearing process is supposed to roll out: hear how he ensured ALL council members, including Mayor Gillingham, will listen to the public's concerns. To sponsor podcasts, or contribute support by Interac: Email-- martygoldlive@gmail.com 22:25- Part 2- Focusing on new transit route plans, Eadie reveals that last week councilors learned "things have been changed". He describes crazy administration ideas for new routes in the North End, such as moving the Cathedral bus onto Inkster- despite the foundation problems. "The planners don't know the history of these neighborhoods," laments Eadie. Marty raised the question about the fate of Route 10 serving St. Boniface Hospital, which Eadie is very familiar with. 28.40- Having heard our exclusive reports about relentless bike lobbyists demonizing drivers and neighborhood opposition and gaming the consultation process, Eadie related how these dynamics play out for access to Scotia. He anticipates more bike lobby resistance when he insists a bus route on the riverbank street be maintained. 31.00 We hear a forecast of where in the south end, that north end buses will land. (Get ready Stafford St.) 34.00 There's no confidence in City holding genuine consultations anymore. Marty cites our discovery about the secret plan to erase 99 St. Boniface parking spaces. "People should have been told", agreed Eadie, who is determined to ensure similar complaints can't be made about the bus route discussions. He's already warned officials about the crumbling roads targeted for future bus use. 41:15- Marty Gold recaps the interview, observing that Eadie agrees public consultations are falling far short of the obligations to voters. **** There's nobody with the experience Marty Gold has at City Hall, starting with speeches and covering elections in the 1980's. Your support is integral to this work as your watchdog- and we make it worth your investment by conducting investigations and full length interviews with elected officials and other newsmakers.
