Travis Scholes, Commercial Director at LMS, joins Today's Conveyancer Podcast host David Opie to discuss the National Property Transaction Network (NPTN); an enablement platform where all those involved in the property transaction can interact in a way that creates greater efficiencies in the process.Discussing the evolution of the concept Travis explains how the last 5 years has seen the level of digitisation within each of the property silos develop astronomically; what's missing is a place where all those different elements of digitisation can work best together and and make the best use of that digital maturity that has taken place. We've got to make that burden to change easier, says Travis. We see NPTN as a way to knock down some of the roadblocks by creating a really open system into which anybody can plug; decoupling the LMS products and services from the network so they're not mandated and any one can plug their supply chain into it. The more people use a single platform to leverage the efficiencies the more powerful the data becomes, the more efficient the process becomes. We can also reduce the administrative burden by de-duplicating data entry points and creating more transparencyChange will be evolutionary, not revolutionary. The big bang approach where everyone has to stop what they're doing and adopt a completely new way of working is impossible. And we're still going through a process of helping the profession understand what this change looks like. In addition we've got to overcome some of the "technology fatigue" that has crept in; the idea that people become tired of hearing about the next big thing. In an entertaining, informative, and typically honest, discussion Travis explains how and why LMS are keen to play their part int he next iteration of the property market. Alison shares her perspective on why structure is so much more than just an organisational chart or job descriptions. She compares a well-structured MSP to an orchestra, where the conductor sets the pace and ensures each musician plays their part in harmony. In an MSP, the leadership team acts as the conductor, guiding different departments while allowing them to operate effectively within their roles. Without this level of coordination, businesses risk becoming chaotic, where people take on mismatched roles, processes break down, and leadership gets bogged down in daily operations rather than focusing on strategic growth. One of the key takeaways from this conversation is the importance of defining leadership roles early on. Many MSP owners make the mistake of promoting internally without fully assessing whether the individual is ready for leadership. Just because someone is a brilliant technical expert or account manager doesn't mean they'll thrive in a leadership position. Alison emphasises that the transition from a technical role to a senior leadership team (SLT) role requires different skills—strategic thinking, communication, and the ability to manage and inspire a team. That's why it's crucial to evaluate potential leaders based on their ability to drive the business forward, rather than simply their tenure or technical expertise. We also touch on the reality that most MSPs don't get past the £1 million turnover mark, largely due to poor structure. If an MSP wants to scale beyond this, it needs to establish a proper SLT with clear departmental functions, accountability, and measurable outcomes. But as we discuss, there's no shop called 'SLTs R Us' where MSP owners can simply pick out a ready-made leadership team. Instead, they have to be intentional about developing leaders internally or bringing in external talent who align with their business vision and culture. Alison highlights the critical need for strong communication across all levels of an MSP. Many businesses assume that everyone understands the company vision, but often, strategy is only understood at board level while the rest of the team remains out of the loop. This creates internal conflicts, especially between service and sales teams, as they struggle to see how their roles contribute to the overall business success. The solution? A structured approach to internal communication—regular meetings, clear role definitions, and alignment on key objectives so that every team member knows their contribution to the bigger picture. Recruiting the right leaders is another major challenge for MSPs, especially when filling gaps in an SLT. Alison advises MSP owners to start by defining exactly what they need from a role before hiring. Is it a Chief Technology Officer, a Head of Operations, or a Commercial Director? More importantly, does this person need to come from a similar-sized MSP or from a different background? Bringing in someone who has only worked in a highly structured corporate environment may struggle in a fast-moving MSP where adaptability is key. Understanding the culture and operational pace of an MSP is just as important as technical expertise. We also explore the growing trend of fractional leadership, which is becoming an invaluable solution for MSPs that need experienced leadership but don't require (or can't afford) full-time roles. Many MSPs looking to scale can benefit from a fractional CIO, CTO, or COO who brings expertise and strategic oversight without the long-term commitment of a permanent hire. This approach provides flexibility, ensures that high-level decisions are being made, and prevents business owners from becoming overwhelmed by operational responsibilities. The conversation then shifts to leadership models and how they impact MSP structure. Alison emphasises that there's no one-size-fits-all model—every MSP must build a structure that fits its size, growth ambitions, and company culture. However, certain fundamentals remain universal: defining a clear vision, having structured departmental plans, and ensuring that every role contributes to business growth. Whether a business is running a flat structure with few management layers or a more hierarchical setup, the key is clarity—who is responsible for what, how decisions flow, and how success is measured. One of the biggest pitfalls we see in MSPs is a lack of focus on operational efficiency. Many MSPs end up stagnating at break-even because they fail to measure success properly. Business owners must be clear on what their teams need to deliver. Are they driving revenue? Improving client retention? Expanding service offerings? Without these key performance indicators, an MSP can fall into the trap of 'busyness' without real business progress. Alison leaves us with a final thought: MSPs need to take structure seriously if they want to grow beyond the owner-operator phase. Every MSP must define what success looks like, ensure clear communication across the team, and build a leadership structure that supports both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic goals. Whether this means promoting from within, hiring externally, or leveraging fractional leadership, the key is to be proactive rather than reactive. Midland Tyre Services has established a new standard of safety across its entire fleet operations by implementing advanced AI-powered solutions from Samsara Inc. ("Samsara") (NYSE: IOT), the pioneer of the Connected OperationsPlatform. Through integrated telematics, GPS tracking, and dual-facing AI Dash Cams, Midland Tyre Services has gained greater visibility into individual driver performance and reduced accidents by 54% over the last two years. Midland Tyre Services supplies some of Ireland's largest blue-chip companies with new tyres and attends over 8,000+ breakdowns every year. After experiencing a high accident rate and, as a result, high insurance premiums, the company turned to Samsara for a new approach to safety and driver behaviour for its large fleet of vehicles that operate 24/7 365 days a year. Using Samsara's Connected Operations platform, Midland Tyre Services now has a birds-eye view over its entire fleet. Enhanced driver tracking and fleet management has had a significant impact on overall efficiency, reducing total time spent managing the fleet by 50%. It has also saved an average of 20 minutes on each breakdown call-out, totalling 2,333 hours - or 97 days - across the year. In addition, Midland Tyre Service has built targeted safety coaching programmes for drivers, resulting in an average driver score - a metric that tracks, measures, and reports on individual driver performance - of 96%, pushing drivers into the 'elite' safety bracket of 90 or higher. The platform allows managers to gain insights into risky driver behaviours, and also assess situations where the driver is not at fault - allowing them to exonerate drivers which wasn't previously possible. As a result, accidents have reduced by 54% in two years, the company has renegotiated insurance premiums to reduce overall costs and the team has created a culture of safety across the business. Commenting on the implementation of Samsara technology, Chris Parle, Commercial Director at Midland Tyre Services, said, "Samsara gives us a powerful pair of eyes across our entire fleet, helping us resolve issues and respond to callouts much faster. We can share tracking data through dispatch links so our customers and technicians have a clear view of the nearest vehicle responding. It's great for transparency and having complete visibility over our drivers is a massive benefit." Philip van der Wilt, SVP and GM EMEA at Samsara, said, "Midland Tyre Services is a great illustration of using technology to put drivers first and facilitate a cultural change throughout the organisation. Now, with access to the right data, fleet managers know how to best support drivers and where to allocate resources as necessary. "When the back office and drivers on the road have the tools to work together effectively, businesses see a tangible improvement in safety and productivity - and Midland Tyre Services is a perfect example of this principle." Vodafone has been awarded Broadband Provider of the Year, while 48 won Mobile Network of the Year at the Switcher.ie Awards 2025. Now running for over a decade and in its twelfth year, the Switcher.ie Awards spotlight brilliance in the broadband and mobile industry and help customers choose the best providers and services for their needs. This year, Vodafone excelled in the Broadband Awards, pocketing four prizes in total. In addition to Broadband Provider of the Year, they swept up three other Public Choice awards and were voted Best Value Broadband Provider, Best Customer Service, and Best Technical Support. Sky won TV Provider of the Year for the 11th year running, and eir clinched Best Broadband Bundle for the first time since 2020. In recognition of Ireland's smaller providers, Pure Telecom won Best Alternative Network. 48 triumphed in the Mobile Awards, securing three prizes. Alongside winning the top accolade, Mobile Network of the Year, 48 was named the Best SIM-Only PAYG Plan and was the public choice for Best Customer Service. The public chose GoMo as the Best Value Mobile Network, while our judges assessed newcomer Sky Mobile as offering the Best SIM-Only Bill Pay Plan. Independent consumer research determined the Public Choice winners, while the Switcher.ie Judge's Awards were selected by telecoms experts at Switcher.ie. Eoin Clarke, Commercial Director of Switcher.ie, comments: "For over ten years, the Switcher.ie Awards have recognised Ireland's leading telecom providers. We're confident that the combination of public voting and expert judging provides valuable guidance for customers seeking the best providers and services. As more Irish households access super-fast full-fibre broadband, they expect nothing less than speedy, reliable service, great value, and responsive customer support. Whereas mobile customers are seeking more than decent 4G or 5G coverage; they want plans that offer great value, simplicity, and flexibility. This is evident in the Irish public's shift away from traditional networks. This year's winners deserve a big round of applause, especially the overall champions in both categories. Vodafone's four awards - including Broadband Provider of the Year - are proof of the network's fair pricing, quality provision and outstanding customer service. We also congratulate 48, who scooped three awards, including Best Mobile Provider of the Year." Clinitouch, originating in the UK NHS, is expanding globally with a focus on chronic conditions and adapting to regional nuances in healthcare delivery. In this discussion several speakers discuss telemedicine in the context of Nigeria and South Africa. Speakers are: Bruce Adams, Commercial Director at Clinitouch (UK) Japie De Jongh, CEO, Synaxon (South Africa) Dr John Adesioye, CEO, Utopian Consulting (Nigeria) Liam van Rooyen, System Support Manager (Synaxon, South Africa) Key points: African Context and Healthcare from the Transcript Role of Remote Patient Monitoring in Addressing Healthcare Gaps: Dr. John Aade (Nigeria) emphasized that remote patient monitoring (RPM) emerged as a practical solution during the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing the need for care delivery without physical hospital visits. In Nigeria, RPM is particularly relevant for patients in remote or underserved areas, enabling data collection and transmission to healthcare providers without requiring face-to-face interactions. Community health workers often play a crucial role, stepping in where doctors and nurses are unavailable. They collect patient data, assess needs, and escalate cases to medical professionals when necessary, highlighting RPM's potential in resource-limited settings. The Dual Healthcare Systems in South Africa: Jaapie de Jong (South Africa) explained the dichotomy of healthcare in South Africa: the private sector, serving insured patients with robust infrastructure, and the public sector, catering to the uninsured population through community healthcare clinics (CHCs) and basic clinics. He noted that while the private sector is aligned with international standards, the public sector faces capacity challenges. RPM in South Africa focuses on insured patients with chronic conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, to reduce hospital visits and improve care efficiency. Challenges to Technology Adoption in Africa: Both Dr. John and Jaapie highlighted several barriers to adopting RPM technology: Device Compatibility and Connectivity: Limited access to smartphones and stable internet connectivity is a significant challenge. Many patients rely on basic phones and are hesitant to allocate resources for more advanced devices. Trust Issues: Patients often worry about data privacy and fraud, especially in regions like South Africa, where cell phone fraud is common. Providers must build trust by ensuring data security and clarifying the purpose and safety of the technology. Power and Infrastructure Limitations: In Nigeria, power outages and the high cost of diesel for generators disrupt patients' ability to use RPM devices consistently. Economic Considerations and Funding Models: Bruce Adams noted that RPM adoption heavily depends on who pays for the service. In many African countries, healthcare services involve a mix of out-of-pocket payments and insurer-funded models. In South Africa, as explained by Jaapie, medical aid schemes (insurers) play a critical role in covering high-risk, chronic condition patients. However, integrating RPM into existing reimbursement structures and ensuring that providers are compensated for remote care remain challenging. Localized Implementation of UK-Inspired Technology: Bruce Adams stressed the importance of adapting Clinitouch's UK-developed RPM platform to local African contexts. Instead of directly transplanting the UK model, Clinitouch collaborates with local partners to understand specific healthcare needs and tailor the platform accordingly. Jaapie praised the platform's flexibility and customization, noting its suitability for South African chronic disease management programs. The ability to localize the tool for hypertension, diabetes, and other chronic conditions was cited as a significant advantage in addressing Africa's healthcare challenges. www.facesofdigitalhealth.com https://fodh.substack.com/
