This week is Pt. 2 of the long episode i did on Rosicrucianism, and AMORC. Here, i focus a bit more on the origins of the invisible brotherhood as well as dive further into the practices, and rituals. I hit on a few of the more famous members as well. In the beginning of the neophyte's journey, before commencing with the official monograph series, AMORC provides the new member with a set of about eight introductory papers, bound into a booklet, called a Mandamus. Inside the first Mandamus collection is another little booklet called Liber 777 (liber means "book" in Latin). This booklet contains the information about a concept called the celestial sanctum. The other lessons throughout the sections are titled and numbered "Monographs." The monographs, small treatises that comprise the "weekly" lessons of AMORC, are the key to AMORC's powerful indoctrination tech­niques. The amazing thing is that the monographs, which encourage the development of a home sanctum, a place for meditation and study, are sufficient to fully indoctrinate the majority of members. This concept of transference can also be seen in very diverse rela­tionships in ordinary life. A prisoner might, after a time, transfer his autonomy to a professional interrogator, a student might surrender his autonomy to a teacher, or a citizen may give up his independence to a political leader. In the case of AMORC, through a manipulation of the student's view of the unique authority of the order, the exalted power of the imperator and the AMORC leaders, and the alleged presence of the invisible masters in the training, the monographs themselves assume a unique role. Pierre Lewis Higher initiates are not supposed to tell lower initiates about experiments or what they are studying. Celestial Sanctum Basically, AMORC claims that time does not exist for a Rosicrucian—except, of course, when your membership fee is due. In fact, time becomes so real at this point that you become very aware that if your membership commitments aren't met on time, you will be auto­matically cut from the egregore. Severing one's connection to the egregore, the sacred pattern of the order on other planes, may not sound so severe to an outsider, but to a Rosicrucian now dependent on the organization, this is a power­ful threat. Remember that a Rosicrucian believes that his fundamental connection to God is linked to his association with the egregore of AMORC. Many times, AMORC is a member's first pass at this type of teaching or organization. When this is the case, AMORC's claims tend to go unquestioned, especially when information coming from ordinary scientific and religious cir­cles is subtly questioned. Since AMORC has its unique calling in the world, other Rosicrucian orders are considered to be pale imitations at best, if not outright frauds. So by the time a neophyte begins to question AMORC, the or­der has created many stumbling blocks inside his mind. To ques­tion AMORC's authority becomes dangerous and even treasonous. The initiate looks at AMORC as the only source of this supersensible knowledge. AMORC tells their initiates that these great developments can be obtained only with the genuine Rosicrucian teaching. See Exercise 1 Aura Pierre says he first witnessed a human aura when he was in the Social Security office and it disturbed him because he did not want to see that. In order to create a compliant and highly suggestible member­ship, certain elements of indoctrination need to be set into place. One of them is "loaded language," in which cult members use special words like Cosmic (instead of God) to give a certain flavor to the cult language. Loading the language. As members continue to formulate their ideas in the group's jargon, this language serves the purpose of constricting members' thinking and shutting down critical thinking abilities. At first, translating from their native tongue into "groupspeak" forces members to censor, edit, and slow down spontaneous bursts of criticism or oppositional ideas. That helps them to cut off and contain negative or resistive feelings. Eventually, speaking in cult jargon is second nature, and talking with outsiders becomes energy-consuming and awkward. Soon enough, members find it most comfortable to talk only among themselves in the new vocabulary. To reinforce this, all kinds of derogatory names are given to outsiders: wogs, systemites, reactionairies, unclean, or Satan. Members are made to feel part of an elite corps of mankind. This feeling of being special, of participating in the most important acts in human history with a vanguard of committed believers, is strong emotional glue to keep people sacrificing and working hard. See: The essays in the Mandamus collection make a variety of key claims about the order. AMORC affirms that the world as we know it is nonexistent. It all only exists in our own mind. Our vocabulary and use of words do not convey the real nature of things. This is soon followed by the assertion that "It is possible to modify the manifestation of matter." Here AMORC lays the foundation to instill in members the belief that they, the select people of this Earth, can change everything. It contends, using its "centuries-old wisdom" card, that "science has finally localized the different zones of the brain, but the Rosicrucians knew since antiquity about such things." It promises that in the future, when the member gets to the sixth temple degree, previous knowledge about health from antiquity will be passed on to the member to help treat a great number of sicknesses. By affirming reasonableness and freedom, AMORC creates a psychological vulnerability in the minds of their students. Their minds are now completely open to the so-called enlightened Rosicrucian methods. In most cults, there is a strong, seemingly rational foundation laid during the early indoctrination phase. One interesting concept, brought out in this monograph, is the assertion that Rosicrucians have no actual right to property. Anything that a member possesses really belongs to the Cosmic. To me, although seemingly idealistic, this doctrine is an attempt to further obliterate personal identity and freedom. In later degrees, AMORC will ask its members to not say I, but we instead. The We belonging to what? Perhaps the we of "our order." Slowly, individual consciousness is raked over to toward the hive mentality. Institutions of a theurgical and esoteric nature that have genuine affiliation don't promote themselves openly on the net like others do, and they are certainly not AMORC, despite the latter being one of the most known Rosicrucian affiliations in the world. "AMORC (just like the O.T.O.) has created a sort of monopoly in this sector, often infiltrating and manipulating smaller orders and affiliations, threatening even lawsuits to stop any form of competition or improper use of their brand of sectarian magick. They are a sort of multinational of the occult., and prefers to present itself as an emanation of the false positivity of the New Age era. It attempts to bring the member to believe that deep breathing was "invented by a Rosicrucian."Burning incense, sleeping on your back, singing vowel sounds, chewing your food properly ... all of these and more involve private facets of your life that are ultimately branded with the AMORC signature. You learn how to eat, breathe, and sleep in the Rosicrucian way ... In positive breathing, you in­ hale and hold the breath for as long as possible; in negative breathing, you exhale, attempting to not inhale for as long as possible. Holding the right thumb between thumb and index of the left hand, the neophyte is asked to practice negative breathing and ob­serve the effect on the right arm. The neophyte is warned to make sure to practice this exercise for two or three minutes. Atrium 2, Monograph 10 AMORC classifies illnesses into two categories: illnesses with a fever and illnesses without a fever. As this classification leads to a choice of treatment, when a member experiences an illness, he must first check to see whether he has a fever. In Rosicrucian therapy, someone who has a fever, no matter what the cause of the illness, is evincing a need for negative energy. In this case, you need to use a negative breathing treatment. If the illness comes without a fever, default to a positive treatment. Atrium 2, Monograph 11 In this monograph, the neophyte again begins a treatment by wash­ ing his hands and drinking a glass of water. Again, basic activities in life will become a trigger that will help release the cult personality, making obtaining the freedom of the mind an almost impossible task. In the case of AMORC, through a manipulation of the student's view of the unique authority of the order, the exalted power of the imperator and the AMORC leaders, and the alleged presence of the invisible masters in the training, the monographs themselves assume a unique role. Pierre Lewis Higher initiates are not supposed to tell lower initiates about experiments or what they are studying. Celestial Sanctum Basically, AMORC claims that time does not exist for a Rosicrucian—except, of course, when your membership fee is due. In fact, time becomes so real at this point that you become very aware that if your membership commitments aren't met on time, you will be auto­matically cut from the egregore. Severing one's connection to the egregore, the sacred pattern of the order on other planes, may not sound so severe to an outsider, but to a Rosicrucian now dependent on the organization, this is a power­ful threat. Remember that a Rosicrucian believes that his fundamental connection to God is linked to his association with the egregore of AMORC. Many times, AMORC is a member's first pass at this type of teaching or organization. When this is the case, AMORC's claims tend to go unquestioned, especially when information coming from ordinary scientific and religious cir­cles is subtly questioned. Since AMORC has its unique calling in the world, other Rosicrucian orders are considered to be pale imitations at best, if not outright frauds. So by the time a neophyte begins to question AMORC, the or­der has created many stumbling blocks inside his mind. To ques­tion AMORC's authority becomes dangerous and even treasonous. The initiate looks at AMORC as the only source of this supersensible knowledge. AMORC tells their initiates that these great developments can be obtained only with the genuine Rosicrucian teaching. See Exercise 1 Aura Pierre says he first witnessed a human aura when he was in the Social Security office and it disturbed him because he did not want to see that. In order to create a compliant and highly suggestible member­ship, certain elements of indoctrination need to be set into place. One of them is "loaded language," in which cult members use special words like Cosmic (instead of God) to give a certain flavor to the cult language. Loading the language. As members continue to formulate their ideas in the group's jargon, this language serves the purpose of constricting members' thinking and shutting down critical thinking abilities. At first, translating from their native tongue into "groupspeak" forces members to censor, edit, and slow down spontaneous bursts of criticism or oppositional ideas. That helps them to cut off and contain negative or resistive feelings. Eventually, speaking in cult jargon is second nature, and talking with outsiders becomes energy-consuming and awkward. Soon enough, members find it most comfortable to talk only among themselves in the new vocabulary. To reinforce this, all kinds of derogatory names are given to outsiders: wogs, systemites, reactionairies, unclean, or Satan. Members are made to feel part of an elite corps of mankind. This feeling of being special, of participating in the most important acts in human history with a vanguard of committed believers, is strong emotional glue to keep people sacrificing and working hard. See: The essays in the Mandamus collection make a variety of key claims about the order. AMORC affirms that the world as we know it is nonexistent. It all only exists in our own mind. Our vocabulary and use of words do not convey the real nature of things. This is soon followed by the assertion that "It is possible to modify the manifestation of matter." Here AMORC lays the foundation to instill in members the belief that they, the select people of this Earth, can change everything. It contends, using its "centuries-old wisdom" card, that "science has finally localized the different zones of the brain, but the Rosicrucians knew since antiquity about such things." It promises that in the future, when the member gets to the sixth temple degree, previous knowledge about health from antiquity will be passed on to the member to helptreat agreat number of sicknesses. By affirming reasonableness and freedom, AMORC creates a psychological vulnerability in the minds of their students. Their minds are now completely open to the so-called enlightened Rosicrucian methods. In most cults, there is a strong, seemingly rational foundation laid during the early indoctrination phase. One interesting concept, brought out in this monograph, is the assertion that Rosicrucians have no actual right to property. Anything that a member possesses really belongs to the Cosmic. To me, although seemingly idealistic, this doctrine is an attempt to further obliterate personal identity and freedom. In later degrees, AMORC will ask its members to not say I, but we instead. The We belonging to what? Perhaps the we of "our order." Slowly, individual consciousness is raked over to toward the hive mentality. Institutions of a theurgical and esoteric nature that have genuine affiliation don't promote themselves openly on the net like others do, and they are certainly not AMORC, despite the latter being one of the most known Rosicrucian affiliations in the world. "AMORC (just like the O.T.O.) has created a sort of monopoly in this sector, often infiltrating and manipulating smaller orders and affiliations, threatening even lawsuits to stop any form of competition or improper use of their brand of sectarian magick. They are a sort of multinational of the occult., and prefers to present itself as an emanation of the false positivity of the New Age era. It attempts to bring the member to believe that deep breathing was "invented by a Rosicrucian."Burning incense, sleeping on your back, singing vowel sounds, chewing your food properly ... all of these and more involve private facets of your life that are ultimately branded with the AMORC signature. You learn how to eat, breathe, and sleep in the Rosicrucian way ... See: Prisoner of San Jose The exercise that follows uses "negative breathing," a technique that is the opposite of "positive breathing." In positive breathing, you in­ hale and hold the breath for as long as possible; in negative breathing, you exhale, attempting to not inhale for as long as possible. Holding the right thumb between thumb and index of the left hand, the neophyte is asked to practice negative breathing and ob­ serve the effect on the right arm. The neophyte is warned to make sure to practice this exercise for two or three minutes. Atrium 2, Monograph 10 AMORC classifies illnesses into two categories: illnesses with a fever and illnesses without a fever. As this classification leads to a choice of treatment, when a member experiences an illness, he must first check to see whether he has a fever. In Rosicrucian therapy, someone who has a fever, no matter what the cause of the illness, is evincing a need for negative energy. In this case, you need to use a negative breathing treatment. If the illness comes without a fever, default to a positive treatment. Again, basic activities in life will become a trigger that will help release the cult personality, making obtaining the freedom of the mind an almost impossible task. MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast wishes you all a happy 2015!  We're celebrating by... going back to 1/27/11 - when we recorded this podcast for "Blink", the classic Doctor Who episode from 2007, written by Steven Moffat and starring David Tennant, Freema Agyeman and Carey Mulligan!  We thought this would be a fun podcast to bring back, since it's no longer up anywhere - of course, "Blink" is one of the all-time greatest episodes of Doctor Who!   As bonuses for this podcast, you get a lot of great stories about our trip to London in 2006 to meet the writers (Cornell, Moffat, Dicks, Shearman, Greenhorn, MacRae, and even Gary Russell!)  There's a great story that John will recount that has to do with the FIRST edition of this episode's script from that night! 2nd bonus: we're in the same room for the first time ever!  So, that's something!  The NEW content is 10 minutes of news about Series 9, RTD, Gally/Barrowman.  Then, into the original podcast!  Please have a listen!

In this weeks show Phil & Paul continue with their series 3 retrospective with their take on Family of Blood.  To be honest, expect more of the same as last week as this is real love in as the pair of them sing the praises of this story and everyone involved and tip their hats to possibly the greatest two part story since the show came back in 2005.  And Phil gets to use the word "beastly". And in the news this week, the exciting announcement of extra tickets for this Novembers official convention and also the accouncement of the premier of An Adventure In Space And Time at the BFI which leads Phil & Paul to show their utter contempt for their listeners.  But in Omega's Tat Corner a piece of tat that is so unwarranted, unofficial and downright shameful gets chucked into the muckiest of Omega's corners.

This week the lads take a trip back in time and crack on once again with their series 3 retrospective with a review of 42.  I am sorry to say however that Phil makes a true return to form in this episode as he does not like this one little bit.  So expect calm level headed discussion from Paul and hot headed, angry words that make no sense from Phil. And in the news this week, the guests are announced for the BFI Doctor Who 50 showing of Bad Wolf and The Parting of The Ways, Doctor Who is nominated in a Radio Times poll for the nations most loved drama and two items of TARDIS news!

A bit more Gallifrey One coverage this week with the Freema Agyeman panel, this was her first North American convention and she really seemed to enjoy herself despite a busy schedule meaning she was on a flight back to the East Coast before the weekend was over. After what seems like a lifetime, Phil and Paul finally return to their series 3 retrospective with Daleks In Manhattan.  Has time been kind to this story or is it still the big mess that they remembered?  Rest assured, both Paul and Phil give a reasoned critique but during the course of their dissection, Phil puts on a showgirl voice, Paul manages to insult Wales and quickly backtracks and the whole conversation degenerates into hardcore pornography. And in the news this week, the saga of the recovered (or not recovered) missing episodes is discussed, Roath Lock will get Royal patronage, Matt Smiths thank you to cast, crew and fans and last and by no means least, Omega's Tat Corner makes it's triumphant return wherein you will hear the phrase "ring hanger".
