Andrew Lowenthal is an Australian digital rights activist, co-founder and former director of the media and technology nonprofit EngageMedia, and the founder of Liber-net, an initiative dedicated to restoring free speech online and exposing digital authoritarianism. Over many years he worked across Southeast Asia on censorship, media freedom and civil society empowerment before shifting his focus to Western democracies, where he observed a rapid expansion of state-aligned speech control. Lowenthal was also part of the Twitter Files investigations in 2022 alongside Matt Taibbi, helping uncover the networks of government agencies, academic labs, NGOs and platforms involved in coordinated content suppression. His expertise lies in mapping these ecosystems and analyzing how governments, foundations and major technology companies shape the boundaries of permissible speech.In this conversation, Andrew Lowenthal breaks down the findings of his extensive report “The Censorship Network in Germany”, created together with a team of German researchers. We discuss why Germany—despite being under the same EU framework as other member states—has developed a uniquely aggressive and institutionally intertwined censorship landscape. Lowenthal explains how more than 300 actors, from ministries to NGOs to fact-checkers, form an ecosystem that flags, moderates and shapes online discourse under the banners of “disinformation,” “hate speech,” and “threats to democracy.” We explore the financial flows behind this system, the blurring of boundaries between state and civil society, and the cultural anxieties that drive Germany's distinct approach.

Patru jaloane care în total valorează 807 milioane de euro.  Astăzi, Premierul Bolojan urmează să convoace o ședință extraordinară de Guvern în care să adopte proiectul de lege care crește vârsta de pensionare a magistraților, a anunțat, ieri purtătoarea de cuvânt al Guvernului, Ioana Dogioiu. Este proiectul strâns legat de jalonul de 231 de milioane de euro, care avea ca termen limită 28 noiembrie.  Guvernul României speră acum să obțină o anumită sumă din toata tranșa de 231 de milioane de euro. Va folosi în fața Comisiei, argumentul că a făcut tot ce i-a stat în putință să adopte un proiect privind reducerea cheltuielilor, au declarat pentru HotNews surse guvernamentale.   Strategia Națională de Apărare: pot serviciile salva țara? (DW) Cum se pune în practică Strategia Națională de Apărare? Cine îi poate determina pe profesioniștii din instituțiile de forță să lucreze mai mult în interesul țării decât în propriul interes? Strategiile Naționale de Apărare adoptate de Parlament din cinci în cinci ani nu au schimbat fundamental riscurile și amenințările care vin din interior.  În actualul context, serviciile secrete ar trebui într-adevăr să fie mai implicate fiindcă războiul de la graniță aduce noi riscuri și amenințări. Dar pot aceste servicii să salveze țara?  Jurnalista DW Sabina Fati reamintește că niciunul dintre cele șase servicii secrete nu a sesizat anul trecut riscul în cazul lui Călin Georgescu, omul Moscovei care a fost pe cale să ajungă la Cotroceni. Niciunul nu a blocat primirea ilegală, pe baza unor acte false a cetățeniei române pentru 300 de ruși, dintre care unii lucrează pentru oligarhi din jurul lui Vladimir Putin. Un pașaport românesc poate fi cumpărat cu maxim 40.000 de euro. Apoi, serviciile i-au lăsat și pe alți oligarhi ruși să-și continue afacerile în România după începerea războiului inclusiv în sectoare strategice, cum e energia. Cum pot serviciile secrete românești să ajute la depistarea corupției când ele și-au pierdut credibilitatea, inclusiv pe plan extern? Un fost adjunct SRI e anchetat pentru corupție, în vreme ce șeful serviciului de spionaj e acuzat de plagiat cu probe elocvente, iar el vrea să-și scape pielea la Curtea Constituțională, unde contestă două articole din Legea învățământului superior.  Ionuț Moșteanu se încurcă în explicațiile privind studiile. Libertatea a refăcut traseul acestora și a descoperit alte „greșeli” ale ministrului. Foaia matricolă – document (Libertatea) Ministrul apărării Ionuț Moșteanu a reacționat pe Facebook după ce Libertatea a scris despre neclaritățile din CV-urile sale oficiale. Politicianul a publicat pe pagina lui din rețeaua de socializare o fotografie a unei diplome pe care afirmă că a obținut-o de la Universitatea Bioterra. Mai mult, ministrul habar nu are când a început facultatea, în toate CV-urile sale punând anul 1996, când, de fapt, anul începerii studiilor a fost 1995 conform documentelor obținute de Libertatea. Durata studiilor a fost de 5 ani, că diploma a fost obținută după sesiunea septembrie 2015 și că a fost eliberată în august 2018. Și nu a absolvit Management, ci Management Agroturistic, adică a studiat pentru a deveni șef de pensiune sau de hotel.

Law in a Culture of Theology: The Use of Canon Law by Parisian Theologians, ca. 1120-ca. 1220 (Routledge, 2025) considers the study of law within its intellectual environment. It demonstrates that theologians associated with the schools of Paris in the twelfth century, particularly Peter the Chanter and his circle, had a working knowledge of Romano-canonical tradition and thought about the human context of the law, which, in turn, reflected the environment in which each master worked. It begins by showing the extent to which law was woven into the fabric of the schools of Paris, and follows with individual case studies. These case studies--marriage in Hugh of St. Victor's De Sacramentis and Peter Lombard's Sententiae, excommunication in Peter the Chanter's Summa de sacramentis et animae consiliis, crusade activity and heresy in Robert of Couçon's Summa penitentiae, homicide in Robert of Flamborough's Liber poenitentialis, and the faces of greed in Thomas of Chobham's Summa confessorum--demonstrate how each theologian drew upon legal thought, for what end he was using it, and how his use of law fit into contemporary legal thinking. A competency in law proved valuable to, and was tailored for, different types of ecclesiastical roles: teachers showing students how to analytically navigate complex questions of pastoral care, papal judge-delegate on the cusp of full-time administration on behalf of the papacy, penitentiarius of St. Victor and the students at the University of Paris, or diocesan management. Law in a Culture of Theology: The Use of Canon Law by Parisian Theologians, ca. 1120-ca. 1220 (Routledge, 2025) considers the study of law within its intellectual environment. It demonstrates that theologians associated with the schools of Paris in the twelfth century, particularly Peter the Chanter and his circle, had a working knowledge of Romano-canonical tradition and thought about the human context of the law, which, in turn, reflected the environment in which each master worked. It begins by showing the extent to which law was woven into the fabric of the schools of Paris, and follows with individual case studies. These case studies--marriage in Hugh of St. Victor's De Sacramentis and Peter Lombard's Sententiae, excommunication in Peter the Chanter's Summa de sacramentis et animae consiliis, crusade activity and heresy in Robert of Couçon's Summa penitentiae, homicide in Robert of Flamborough's Liber poenitentialis, and the faces of greed in Thomas of Chobham's Summa confessorum--demonstrate how each theologian drew upon legal thought, for what end he was using it, and how his use of law fit into contemporary legal thinking. A competency in law proved valuable to, and was tailored for, different types of ecclesiastical roles: teachers showing students how to analytically navigate complex questions of pastoral care, papal judge-delegate on the cusp of full-time administration on behalf of the papacy, penitentiarius of St. Victor and the students at the University of Paris, or diocesan management. No samita tribīnes izskan biedinoši atgādinājumi par to, ka šogad vien klimata pārmaiņas par sevi atgādinājušas ar neierasti ilgu un intensīvu vasaras karstuma periodu Indijā un Pakistānā, līdzīgu vasaras tveici Rietumeiropā, ugunsgrēkiem Vidusjūras reģionā, postošu sausumu Turcijā, viesuļvētrām Karību reģionā un Brazīlijas dienvidos, taifūniem Vjetnamā un Filipīnās. Lukašenko draud Viļņai, pielabinās Vašingtonai 29. oktobrī Lietuvas gaisa telpā notika kārtējais incidents, kad no Baltkrievijas puses ielidojuši gaisa baloni, kādi tiek izmantoti meteoroloģiskajām zondēm, likuši vairakkārt apturēt Viļņas lidostas darbību. Pēdējā laikā parādās ziņojumi, ka šādi gaisa baloni, kā arī lidroboti tiekot izmantoti, nogādājot no Baltkrievijas Polijā un Lietuvā kontrabandas cigaretes. Reaģējot uz notikušo, Lietuvas valdība tajā pašā dienā slēdza robežšķērsošanas punktus ar Baltkrieviju. Kā zināms, jau kopš septembra vidus ir ierobežotas arī robežšķērsošanas iespējas starp Poliju un Baltkrieviju. Pēc tam, kad apmēram divdesmit Krievijas lidroboti 9. septembrī ielidoja Polijas gaisa telpā, Varšava 12. septembrī pilnībā slēdza savu robežu ar Baltkrieviju. Pāris nedēļas vēlāk kustība gan daļēji tika atjaunota, tomēr vairāki nozīmīgi robežpunkti joprojām paliek slēgti, tā apgrūtinot satiksmi. Divu robežpunktu atvēršana tika plānota oktobra beigās, taču pagaidām ir atlikta, acīmredzot saistībā ar minētajiem notikumiem Lietuvā. Minskas režīms uz Lietuvas valdības rīcību reaģējis asi. Robežas slēgšanas rezultātā Baltkrievijā izrādījās iestrēgušas apmēram tūkstoš simts Lietuvā reģistrētas kravas mašīnas. Baltkrievija atteikusies tās izlaist no savas teritorijas pa kādu īpašu koridoru, novirzot uz maksas stāvlaukumiem. Baltkrievijas diktators Lukašenko, kurš Lietuvas rīcību dēvē par hibrīdkara operāciju, pieprasījis tūlītēju robežas atkalatvēršanu un piedraudējis, ka citādi lietuviešu transportlīdzekļi varot tikt konfiscēti. 31. oktobrī viņš arī parakstījis dekrētu, ar kuru Polijas un Lietuvas kravas mašīnām aizliegta pārvietošanās Baltkrievijas teritorijā. Tāpat Lukašenko paziņojis, ka runāšot par Lietuvas robežas jautājumu ar Savienoto Valstu administrācijas pārstāvjiem. Kā zināms, kopš pāris mēnešiem Minskas un Vašingtonas attiecībās iestājies atkusnis. Augustā notika Lukašenko telefonsaruna ar Savienoto Valstu prezidentu Trampu, savukārt septembrī no Baltkrievijas cietumiem tika atbrīvoti 52 politieslodzītie apmaiņā pret sankciju mīkstināšanu Baltkrievijas nacionālajai aviokompānijai Belavia. Svētdien prezidents Tramps paziņoja, ka ieceļ Džonu Koulu, kontaktpersonu sarunās ar Lukašenko, par savu īpašo sūtni Baltkrievijā. Pirmdien tika ziņots, ka Polijas premjerministrs Donalds Tusks un Lietuvas premjerministre Inga Ruginiene vienojušies, ka normāls robežšķērsošanas režīms ar austrumu kaimiņu varētu tikt atjaunots ap novembra vidu. Vai politikai pietuvinātie mēģina koriģēt britu sabiedriskās raidorganizācijas kursu? 2025. gada 9. novembris, jādomā, tiks pieminēts britu nacionālās raidsabiedrības BBC vēstures pārskatos. Iemesls ir skandāls, kas izvērtās novembra ieskaņā, kad konservatīvās ievirzes laikraksts The Daily Telegraph publiskoja informāciju par iekšēju ziņojumu, kuru raidorganizācijas valdei iesniedzis kādreizējais BBC Redakcionālo vadlīniju un standartu komitejas ārštata konsultants Maikls Preskots. 19 lappušu teksts analizē konkrētu gadījumu ar raidījumā „Panorāma” ievietotu materiālu, kas atspoguļo notikumus Vašingtonā 2021. gada 6. janvārī, kad toreiz uz otro termiņu neievēlētā prezidenta Donalda Trampa piekritēji ielauzās Kapitolija ēkā, pārtraucot Savienoto Valstu Kongresa darbu. Tramps toreiz uzrunāja savus atbalstītājus pie Baltā nama, un BBC pārraidītajā materiālā divi viņa runas fragmenti bija samontēti tā, ka radīja iespaidu par tiešu uzkūdīšanu uz šo iebrukumu. Autors pārmet BBC paustajam pārlieku kreisumu un aizraušanos ar t.s. „vokisma” ievirzēm, kas izpaužoties, piemēram, Izraēlas un Hamas konflikta un transpersonu tiesību jautājumu atspoguļojumā. Valdē ziņu dienesta vadītājai Tērnesai uzbrūkošu pozīciju ieņēma pirmām kārtām tās loceklis Robijs Gibs, kurš šai institūcijā nonāca premjerministra Borisa Džonsona laikā. Savulaik viņš bijis labējās ievirzes telekanāla GB News viens no izveidotājiem un darbiniekiem, kurš pie tam esot Maikla Preskota personisks draugs. Liberālākas ievirzes medijos izskan viedokļi, ka šis ir mērķtiecīgi organizēts uzbrukums sabiedriskajai raidorganizācijai, lai panāktu lielāku konservatīvo aprindu ietekmi tajā vai to diskreditētu. Vairāki politiķi, tostarp Liberāldemokrātu līderis Eds Deivijs un Skotijas pirmais ministrs Džons Svinnijs aicinājuši atcelt Gibu no BBC valdes. Var atgādināt, ka BBC joprojām ir auditorijas uzticamības ziņā visaugstāk vērtētā britu raidorganizācija – tās ziņu materiālus par uzticamiem uzskata 60 % skatītāju. Read more about the project below: ** THE GREAT OVEN DISCO CANTINA **with TANG, RADIO ALHARA & MIXMAGSince its inception in 2019, The Great Oven has been forging giant, beautifully decorated, community ovens – installing them in refugee camps, conflict zones and informal settlements across Lebanon and South Africa.This year, their mission is to expand to the West Bank whilst creating a cultural bridge between Palestine and a homebase in Ireland. Artists from both countries have been collaborating all year to construct two Great Ovens that will be decorated at IMMA, Irish Museum of Modern Art and unveiled at All Together Now 2025.You'll find them at The Great Oven Disco Cantina: a feast for the senses where festivalgoers can dance, dine and support the journey of a Great Oven to Palestine. An exceptional lineup of longstanding partners and allies have gathered all together now, to bring this vision to life.Leading the Disco Cantina's culinary experience is beloved Middle Eastern eatery, Tang who are shutting all their Dublin sites for the weekend to send their talented team to host this gastronomic extravaganza. Cherished recipes from Great Oven refugee cooks will feature alongside favourite dishes from the restaurant. Once a day, 100 diners will be given the opportunity to attend a DJ Banquet where special guests will perform a once-in-a-lifetime, intimate show at the cantina. His research interests include intermediary beings, magic, alchemy and Paracelsianism, and the reception of these subjects in (early to late) modernity. He investigates these topics from an environmental perspective as well as through social categories like class. His doctoral project entails an environmental reception history of the concept of elemental beings from the sixteenth to the early twentieth century, through its manifestations in magic, alchemy, literature, mining and agriculture. In this episode, we explore the shifting terrain of magical contact—where spirits, nature, and power intersect. Drawing from his article “Encounters, Evocations and Elemental Beings”, we'll trace the philosophical and esoteric implications of two very different modes of engaging with the unseen: Paracelsus's reverent encounters with elemental beings, and Dr. Rudd's ritual evocations. Along the way, we'll unpack the role of monsters, the ethics of spiritual mediation, and the deeper question of whether esotericism must rest on a singular, perennial foundation—or whether it can evolve, diversify, and apply to new contexts like ecology, psychedelics, tulpas, and even extraterrestrial contact. This is a conversation about relational knowing, cultural consciousness, and the future of interdisciplinary esoteric research.I have one correction to mention beforehand; Tjalling made a mistake in his wording when he mentioned the text De Meteoris (which comes up in the discussion), in his haste to explain the temporal trajectory. In all texts before De Meteoris elemental beings have souls. They are soulless from De Meteoris onwards, but that text lacks the possibility for elemental beings to acquire souls through marriage.
