But with great success comes a few hassles. One is product copying. As host Josh Hadley shared in previous episodes, one of his mistakes in his entrepreneurial journey was failing to protect his products. If you have made the same mistake or experienced product duplication, you'll want to stick around to learn how to protect your intellectual property (IP). In this episode of the eComm Breakthrough Podcast, Josh Hadley sits down with Rich Goldstein, the Principal Patent Attorney at Goldstein Patent Law, to discuss how sellers can double the value of their business with intellectual patent protection. Stay tuned to learn why you should trademark your brand, evaluate your product before applying for a patent, and understand the value of IP protection. Welcome to another episode of Conscious Design podcast and today Ian is visited by Rich Goldstein who will talk a bit about patents. After Rich introduces himself he goes on and explains how he views the problematic of patenting and based on his experience and opinion when you should consider to patent and when it is useless. Then Rich continues to talk about the problem of very few patents being left for the people to take and how minor differences can win you a new patent for a new idea. Rich and Ian both talk about the defensive patent technique and Rich shares his share of criticism for this technique. Rich talks about how sometimes even a public product that is well known can cause patent problems if the patent is not done properly or is missing. Rich and Ian then both debate over design patents and how they are rising in popularity. Rich then invites people to check out his book or to get into contact with him. ¿qué sucede si no registras tu marca? Página web: goldsteinpatentlaw.com E-mail: julian@goldsteinpc.com

He is also the author of the book, The ABA Consumer Guide to Obtaining a Patent. In this episode… There's one pretty common misconception people have about patents: if you can't find a product or item in the market, it hasn't been created or patented before. The thing is, there are tons of products that have been patented that never made it to the market. According to Rich Goldstein, this is why proper research before filling out that patent application is crucial for innovators. Plus, if a similar patent already exists but is expired or unused by the inventor, there are ways to revitalize your patent application. The question is, what do you need to do to make sure you're covering all your bases? In this episode of Innovations and Breakthroughs, Rich Goldstein gets interviewed by Dr. Jeremy Weisz of Rise25 on the steps an inventor should take before proceeding with a patent application. Together, they discuss the different kinds of research innovators should conduct and the issues inventors should keep in mind when looking to buy an existing patent. Stay tuned.

Rich is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), American Bar Association (ABA) Law Practice Division, New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA), and Licensing Executives Society (LES). He is also the author of the book "The ABA Consumer Guide to Obtaining a Patent." In this episode… When a product is marked as patent pending, it tends to keep people away. They avoid copying it. They know there's something about it that's unique and copying it would amount to patent infringement. And because it is pending, they can't really find out what the patent is going to be for. It offers a great deal of psychological protection for the inventor and it serves as a notice for other people that there will be some rights accorded to the patent owner if the patent is granted. Such was the case with one of Rich Goldstein's clients. His client sought to find a solution to bus seat vandalism. He came up with a unique idea for making the seat inserts vandalism proof and with the help of Rich, he was able to patent his idea and was able to secure his own success story. Growing up on Staten Island, today’s guest was diligently moving forward on an electrical engineering career track when he stopped for just a moment to consider what that might mean. In his view, a career as an electrical engineer involved working, sometimes for years at a time at perfecting one very specific part of a larger technological puzzle. He had long imagined himself a businessman with a love of marketing and could see that becoming an engineer wouldn’t scratch those entrepreneurial itches. On this episode of the Serious Sellers Podcast, Helium 10’s Director of Training and Customer Success, Bradley Sutton is speaking with Rich Goldstein of Goldstein Patent Law. Rich will explain how patent law not only made possible a career that allows him to do something different every single day; it also helped him fulfill an important role for the many entrepreneurs active on Amazon. After initially shifting from electrical engineering to patent law, Rich found himself with a degree and tried to imagine what the next step might be. For a lot of new attorneys, the answer would have been to join a larger firm and hope to support himself with the crumbs that were left behind by the firm’s power players. Instead, Rich decided to start his own law firm and used his marketing smarts in order to create a clever way to put himself in the middle of a very successful group of people who would need his services. He started a magazine. But not just any magazine. He started a magazine for inventors. Then, he began advertising his services in order to be right there as a ready source of information. That was a big hit. Next, he was approached by the American Bar Association to write a book about obtaining a patent. In getting ready to launch the book he first went to a Traffic and Conversion Summit, later joining their War Room Mastermind group where he quickly realized that it was in eCommerce that his expertise was really needed. He says that he’s happy that his bustling practice caters to small entrepreneurs and start-ups selling patented products on Amazon. But, how does someone know that they need patent law assistance? According to Rich, if you sell enough on Amazon, eventually you’re going to save considerable money by reaching out for Amazon patent assistance. At the same time, even considering whether you might need patent help is a very useful exercise to go through in the process of deciding if the product is really positioned to make you significant money. Rich says that Amazon’s ecosystem creates an interesting situation where the logic concerning the relative value of the two types of patents is completely opposite the conventional wisdom. That’s just one more reason to listen in to today’s episode. In it, he’ll make sure you know the difference between patents and trademarks and explain how to go about patenting a method of tying a shoelace.
