Diaz is a nine-time Golf Writers Association of America award-winner; earned the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism in 2012; and was recognized by Jack Nicklaus as the recipient of the Memorial Golf Journalism Award. He spent time in his career as a golf writer or editor for the New York Times, Golf Illustrated, Golf World, and Golf Digest. Since 2018, Diaz has appeared regularly on Golf Channel as an in-studio analyst and on Golf Central's Live From broadcasts at major golf tournaments and events. Damon joined the Golf Channel and NBC Sports Group in 2012 after covering the PGA Tour and the NFL for five years as a senior writer at Sports Illustrated. Prior to SI, he covered golf and pro football as a New York Times staff writer from 2002-07, and he covered golf and the New York Knicks as a beat reporter for Newsday (2000-02). Damon also previously covered the San Francisco 49s during his tenure at the Sacramento Bee (1996-2000). He was born in Los Angeles, earned a bachelor's degree in history from UCLA and a master's degree in journalism from UC Berkeley. Damon and his wife, Suzanna Yip, have triplet sons.
