An episode that tries to make it make sense. In Episode 124 of The Autistic Culture Podcast, “Justice for Victor,” we confront the tragic police killing of 17-year-old autistic Puerto Rican teen Victor Perez and the systemic failures that led to his death. Centering voices from the Black neurodivergent community, this powerful conversation demands a reimagining of autistic justice beyond white-centered narratives. This episode is a call to action for the autism and neurodiversity movements to prioritize true equity, accountability, and liberation for all. Here's what we cover in today's episode: * In this powerful and somber episode, Angela is joined by Black autistic advocates Faith Clarke and Darren Calhoun to discuss the heart breaking murder of Victor Perez, a non-speaking autistic Puerto Rican teenager.* On April 5th, Victor Perez—a 17-year-old autistic, disabled Puerto Rican teen—was shot by police in his own front yard. He is no longer with us. And now, his family is left to grieve in a system that failed him at every level.* Darren Calhoun is a justice advocate, worship leader, and photographer based in Chicago. He's the co-host of the Second Sunday podcast, and his work bridges communities across race, gender, and neurodivergence. Darren is a powerful voice for intersectionality and faith-based inclusion, and he's someone who speaks truth with clarity and compassion.* Faith Clarke wrote her best selling book Parenting Like a Ninja with Angela and it was based in part on her experience as a business owner and mom of a non-speaking autistic son (and a couple of other neurodivergent humans too).* We are especially grateful to Tiffany Hammond who you might remember from our Monster's High episode a couple of weeks ago — whose writing on her fidgets and fries Instagram in response to Victor's death called me into deeper reflection. Her words were a turning point for us.* Victor's Go Fund Me: https://www.gofundme.com/f/justice-for-victor-perez“quotes”Victor is not the first. He joins a growing list of young, Black and Brown neurodivergent lives—Stephon Watts. Elijah McClain. Ryan Gainer.Their stories demand justice. This episode is about what happened. What should have happened. And what needs to happen next—if we truly want a movement that's rooted in liberation for all of us.
Compiled acclaimed anti-racist educator Liz Kleinrock and celebrated author Caroline Kusin Pritchard, and illustrated by Iris Gottlieb, WHAT JEWISH LOOKS LIKE is a powerful intersectional anthology celebrating thirty-six Jewish heroes—from Tracee Ellis Ross, and Victor Perez, to Doña Gracia Nasi. A first-ever collection that disrupts the narrative of how a Jewish person is perceived! Too many Jews have been told: "You don't look Jewish!" It begs the question, "What does Jewish look like?" Well, there are over fifteen million Jews in the world, which means there are more than fifteen million ways to look and be Jewish. It can look like setting out menorahs on tribal land, adding kimchi to the seder plate, organizing for change, and living out loud. Shining a light on Paralympians and chefs, anthropologists and activists, dancers and dreamers, the individuals in these pages represent a range of identities. But they are threaded together by one unmistakable truth: Their lives, work, and commitment to Jewish values have changed our world for the better. These bold profiles and inspiring everyday stories come together to create a tapestry that beautifully reflects the multifaceted essence of the Jewish people.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Will Doctor kicks off the podcast by reviewing the Sanderson Farms Championship and Dunhill Links Championship, followed by his predictions for the upcoming Black Desert Championship. Key Player Highlights: Kevin Yu: Secured his first PGA Tour win after a clutch 15-foot birdie putt in regulation. He climbed to 60th in the FedExCup standings. His stellar junior and college career at Arizona State laid the foundation for this victory. Keith Mitchell: Disappointed after missing out on a playoff due to poor driving and a three-putt on the 72nd hole. Mitchell admitted, “I only hit one fairway,” reflecting his back-nine struggles. Will Doctor points out that Mitchell's driving accuracy will be less of an issue at the wide-open Black Desert course, but his putting remains a concern. Bo Hosler: Known for strong putting, Hosler lost the Sanderson Farms playoff, and his attempts to manipulate relief rulings raised eyebrows. Will criticizes Hosler for "trying to get an unfair drop," casting doubt on his ability to close out tournaments, especially since he's yet to secure a professional win. Event and Course Insights: The Black Desert Championship returns the PGA Tour to Utah for the first time in 60 years. The course has wide fairways and few hazards, likely leading to a birdie-fest. Will predicts a winning score of 29-under-par and emphasizes that driving accuracy won't be crucial this week. Picks and Predictions: Outright Picks: Lucas Glover (40:1): Despite a tough 2024 season, Glover's recent form and improved putting make him a strong contender. Will believes his ball-striking prowess and past success set him up for a solid performance. Michael Thorbjornsen (40:1): Thorbjornsen's ball-striking and ability to excel in birdie-heavy tournaments make him another strong pick. Top 20 Pick: Patton Kizzire: Known for thriving in birdie-fests, Kizzire's consistent form makes him a solid choice for a top-20 finish at +240 odds. Matchups: Ryan Fox over Steven Yeager: Fox's strong recent form and consistent play give him an edge. K.H. Lee over Justin Suh: Will favors Lee's experience in shootouts, while Suh's ball-striking has been subpar this season. Vince Whaley over Matt McCarty: Whaley's recent improvement in approach play and McCarty's struggles transitioning to the PGA Tour lead Will to back Whaley. Best Bet and Final Scoring Prediction: Best Bet: Lucas Glover to finish in the top 10 at +450 odds. Winning Score Prediction: 29-under-par due to the course's forgiving nature and birdie opportunities. Will Doctor wraps up with his thoughts on the Open de France, giving an outright pick of Victor Perez to win at 28:1 and backing Justin Rose over Matthew Pavan in a head-to-head matchup. PHARR, TEXAS - Pharr Economic Development Corporation President Victor Perez went off script to recognize industrial developer Joaquin Spamer at a groundbreaking ceremony. The focus was supposed to be on another warehouse developer, Ramon Mery, and later in the proceedings it was. But Perez said he wanted Spamer to come to the podium because he, Perez, is a member of the Hidalgo County Prosperity Task Force and his EDC is supporter of the RioPlex marketing initiative. Spamer started his speech by praising Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez. He said he was one of the first leaders in the Valley he partnered with. Spamer then went on to talk about “the port of the future.” He was talking about SpaceX. “The only message that I have is that we have the port of the future because Pharr has a door to outer space and that door is SpaceX. And it is here. But it is not just at Boca Chica it is all over the region, on both sides of the border. What we are calling RioPlex,” Spamer said. Spamer said RioPlex, a marketing strategy that seeks to promote the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas, is not trying to diminish the importance of RGV Partnership. “On the contrary. RGV Partnership has a mandate to promote the US side, just like COSTEP. The only thing that we're doing with RioPlex is naming the region from Roma-Miguel Aleman to Brownsville-Matamoros, on both sides of the border,” Spamer said. “When you put that region together, we have the port of the future.” Spamer said he wanted to repeat a story he told the day before. The event was held at Harlingen Convention Center by the Prosperity Task Force and the CEO Group in order to promote RioPlex. “I was explaining the advantages of the region together: 13 international bridges, led by the Pharr International Bridge, seven airports, four ocean ports. We have (a) 3.5 million population. We have over 100,000 students in college on both sides of the border. So, we have a unique region,” Spamer said. “But I was explaining this to a friend. We will not name names. And I told him that we have the port of the future. And he said, what is that? (I said) we have SpaceX. (He said) no you don't. (I said) yes, we do. It is in Boca Chica. But (his friend said) Boca Chica is next to Boca Raton. They actually think it is in Florida. And that just proves how bad of a job we are doing in promoting the region.” Spamer said the individual cities in the RGV do “a very good job” in promoting themselves. “And I commend Victor and (Pharr Bridge Director) Luis (Bazan) for what you do for the City of Pharr. And you do a great job. But it's like selling a store inside a mall. At the end of the day, you need to make sure that people come to the mall and that's what we're trying to do with RioPlex,” Spamer said. “And we are doing it with the private sector, trying to support the local EDOs. Because something that I need to mention is that the EDOs cannot do it themselves. They need the support of local businessmen. And what I want to say is, if you are small businessman or a medium or large businessman, get involved. Get involved with the Chamber of Commerce. Get involved with EDC.” Editor's Note: To read the full story go to the Rio Grande Guardian website. The Break80 Podcast will be discussing the "Quest to Qualify" for the Minnesota State Amateur Championship this summer. Can three slightly above average golfers make it to the Minneapolis Golf Club? We will be talking professional golf this week as Jon Rahm stays dominant winning the American Express Championship and Mike's pick Victor Perez wins in Abu Dhabi with an epic bunker shot on 17. Jeff sits down for an interview with Damon Hack from the golf channel to talk about his passion for golf and career in sports journalism.
It is an exciting week in golf as the annual demo and fitting event takes place at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida. We have the inside scoop on all the latest and greatest products for your game. DP World Tour's recent winner, Victor Perez joins Damon and Eamon to discuss his recent victory. Later, Matt Adams catches up with the President of Titleist Golf Balls, Mary Lou Bohn and eight-time PGA Tour winner and Titleist Golf Ambassador, Brad Faxon. Then we hear from LPGA veteran, Lexi Thompson as she discuss her thoughts on the new COBRA Golf AEROJET driver. With high hopes to win the Famers Insurance Invitational, APGA's very own Christian Heavens joins Damon and Eamon to discuss his journey to this point in his career. Victor Perez (9:34) Mary Lou Bohn & Brad Faxon (30:23) Lexi Thompson (50:48) Christian Heavens (53:37)
It's the first Sky Sports Golf Podcast of 2023 and host Josh Antmann is joined by Rob Lee and, Guardian journalist, Ewan Murray. Plenty to catch up on from the year so far including the Hero Cup, wins for Victor Perez and Jon Rahm, plus LIV gets a TV deal in the USA. There's also previews ahead of the golf this week.
Jon Rahm continues his heater with a fourth win in his last six starts as he claims the AMex with a one shot victory over Davis Thompson. We recap the week and sing the praises of both Rahm and Thompson, evaluate recent results through the prism of the OWGR and run down the leaderboard - despite TC's absence from the pod. We also shout out Victor Perez's incredible hole out en route to a win in Abu Dhabi, Brooke Henderson's wire to wire win at the LPGA Tournament of Champions, LIV's TV deal with the CW, plus a fun early US Ryder Cup roster building exercise.
Andy and Brendan are back after a “relaxing” weekend watching golf and football. They begin with some clarity on where Jim Nantz will be calling Farmers from, and questions about title sponsors and stadium naming rights. Eventually, they get to Jon Rahm and his second straight victory on the PGA Tour at the AmEx in Palm Springs. They lament why everything he did this week was framed through some sort of OWGR debate or discussion, and ponder the nihilism of such an event like the AmEx. The Davis Zone is given its due, as is the big bird from Xander. Victor Perez is lauded for his victory in Abu Dhabi and Brooke Henderson for her win in Orlando. But there are some questions about wisdom teeth removal as an offseason challenge. News hits on the CW-Liv deal going final before an SGS Golf Advice segment to make up for Friday's whiff. This one takes on a different kind of “whiff” as well as another listener looking for penance from a junior golf cheating incident. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
After a 1-2 finish last week with 40/1 Victor Perez and 25-1 Min Woo Lee, the bar is set high, for the second DP World Tour event of 2023. As ever we highly recommend you check out Tour-Tips.com for all the relevant statistics required to make informed selections each week. Five shot during the lunch rush, four died on scene. Anthony Clemente thought he was saving his son and his cousin by coming to the ninety-nine pub and opening fire on a booth of local mafia. But, investigation revealed the men were unarmed. Anthony could have easily secured his son and cousin and simply departed the area, as he was armed and his enemies were not. The desire was to kill not protect, this desire was fulfilled in the most grotesque fashion. Boston Police called this shooting a beef between local morons. If this massacre was an effort to save Damien Clemente and Victor Perez, it failed. Both Damien and Anthony were quickly convicted and are serving life without parole.Mobfax https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqVVnXtv2mEUPI https://www.upi.com/Archives/1997/05/02/Mobster-admits-he-killed-everybody/4476862545600/Boston.com http://archive.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/09/06/convictions_upheld_in_fatal_rampage/Comm v Clemente caselaw-https://caselaw.findlaw.com/ma-supreme-judicial-court/1233168.html
Jews and sports is an exploration of Jewish identity and integration in the modern world. This was expressed as Jews became fans of sports teams, with the most famous baseball fan in history being an eccentric Jewish woman named Hilda Chester. Jews were always prominent in the labor movement, and it was a Jewish labor organizer named Marvin Miller who, as president of the Player's Union, successfully rid Baseball of the reserve clause and emancipated the players from the owner's grip. During the 1920's and 30's Jews were especially prominent in boxing. Benny Leonard and Barney Ross were famous boxing champions, but there were many others as well. Jewish participation in boxing is perhaps the most typical expression of both the struggles of the immigrant generation, along with the process of Americanization. Several victims of the Holocaust were famous Jewish athletes. Eddy Hamel of the Dutch National Football (soccer) team, Victor Perez the boxer, gymnasts, fencers and others as well. Though they may have been celebrities known for their physical prowess, Nazi racial theory considered them Jews and they suffered the same fate as European Jewry.
