The wildcard who's lost only twice on grass all year against the world number two who can't find her form. Alex Eala vs Elena Rybakina at the Berlin Open 2026 is a round of 16 rematch with massive Wimbledon stakes — and we have the full Eala vs Rybakina prediction, preview, and tactical breakdown right here.Eala just beat Vekic 7-5, 6-4 to continue her remarkable grass court season — her seventh win on the surface in 2026, fresh off a Birmingham title. She is a wildcard ranked world number 35, and she is dangerous. Rybakina enters as the second seed, but she has an alarming 5-5 record across her last ten matches and has never reached a Berlin semi-final in four attempts. The two last met at the Italian Open in May, where Rybakina won in straight sets on clay. This time it's grass — the surface where Eala has been nearly unbeatable and where two of the last three Berlin champions have been left-handed, just like her. The Eala vs Rybakina Berlin Open 2026 round of 16 clash is the biggest test yet of Eala's grass court breakthrough season. Can Eala reverse her Rome defeat and pull off the upset of the grass court season so far? Or does Rybakina's class and power finally show up at exactly the right moment?

Shelby Rogers joins the podcast to recap The Italian Open, where Elina Svitolina went on a sensational run to win the event for the third time. Rogers explains why Svitolina is better than ever and what finalist Coco Gauff can do to keep improving. The former WTA pro also examines the field of contenders for the women's title at Roland Garros, and even suggests a few younger players that could be ready for their moment. Rogers also recaps Jannik Sinner's victory on home-soil, as the Italian wins yet another Masters tournament on clay. Is there anyone that step to the World No. 1 in Paris? Rogers dives into that difficult question and covers several other top ATP storylines including Carlos Alcaraz's announcement that he will be missing Wimbledon, and what it might mean for Novak Djokovic's chances at a 25th major. And Rogers discusses how she's adjusted to life after the conclusion of her playing career, and why she thoroughly enjoys broadcasting. Hosted by Mitch Michals. Italian tennis is going crazy and it begs its own special show. For the 3rd straight year I chatted in the Mussolini era auxiliary media center with the Italian journalist with his own outlet UBI Tennis- the prolific Ubaldo Scanagatta and it was a enjoyable deep dive on Novak, the Paolini Errani controversy thats brewing, and the moment Jannik Sinner is having, and the Gaudenzi reign at the top of the ATP. We also discussed the Italian Open and how it's grown- for better and for worse. No one knows more about tennis than Ubaldo and I absolutely love the guy. Please excuse some audio roughness as we were in tough conditions. While at the Italian Open in Rome with ASICS, I got the chance to sit down with Luciano Darderi for this mini episode of the Functional Tennis Podcast.Luciano talks about growing up between Argentina and Italy, being coached by his dad, and why his family sacrificed so much to help him pursue professional tennis. He also shares what changed as he climbed the rankings, what separates the very best players from the rest, and what it actually feels like practising and competing against players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. We also chat about Luciano becoming an official ASICS athlete after previously buying and wearing their shoes himself, and how a pair of ASICS shoes helped him through a difficult foot injury period before his breakthrough run on tour.A short episode, but plenty of insight into life at the top level of the game.
This week Erik and Aidan hop on the pod to discuss the first week of the Italian Open which took place in Rome this past week. Jannik Sinner has continued to dominate his competition, but this cannot be said for many of the other top seeds. While he flourishes, other players show cracks, losing early as younger players start to establish themselves as potential frontrunners of the future. The conversation covers the upsets and surprises of the tournament as well as looking forward to the last few rounds. Enjoy the discussion and be sure to check back later in the week for a full episode discussing these topics! ‘It's very difficult to be private when you're trying to be the best player in the world'Tim Muffett speaks to tennis icon Bjorn Borg about life at the very top of the sport. Born in 1956 in the Swedish capital, Borg's lifelong association with tennis began when his father won a full-size racket at a local table tennis tournament, which he gave to the young Borg.By the age of 14, he had joined the professional tennis circuit, and just a few years later, had won the Italian Open at 17 and the French Open at just 18. Having risen to international prominence in 1975 when he helped Sweden win its first David Cup, Borg became a household name in the years that followed for his distinctive playing style that helped him win Wimbledon five times in a row.At the peak of his playing career, his on-court rivalry with the American John McEnroe became the stuff of legend, with the pair's 1980 Wimbledon final considered by many to be one of the greatest matches ever played. This was later immortalised in a 2017 movie. After unexpectedly retiring in 1983, Borg struggled with life after tennis, battling alcohol and drug abuse. He subsequently returned to the sport in the early 1990s for a couple of years before hanging up his professional tennis racket for good.In this interview, he discusses his journey to the very top of the sport, the challenges of stepping away, and his recent battle with prostate cancer. The Interview brings you conversations with people shaping our world, from all over the world.
