Episode 5 of the Lippin' Putts Podcast is out and it is an unexpectedly long one. Nick Leach and Sam Palmer kick off the show by recapping the Travelers Championship that saw Xander Schauffle secure his sixth PGA Tour win. Lexi Thompson had a chance to capture her first major in eight years but her putting demons reared their ugly head yet again at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. The PGA Tour announced a thirteen-year agreement with the DP World Tour formerly known as the European Tour. Sam believes the PGA Tour is moving in the right direction but wants more done for the younger "phenoms" of the game of golf. The LIV Golf Series makes its American debut this week when its kicks off at Pumpkin Ridge on Thursday. The PGA Tour has its worst field of the year head to the John Deere Classic which leads Nick and Sam to have some fun with their picks this week. The PGA Tour stayed in New England for the Travelers Championship, where Xander kept it together to notch a victory in Connecticut. Hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell look at his win, Theegala's 72nd hole collapse, and an amateur's surprisingly good week (1:49). The LIV Tour heats up again this week in Portland, and that dirty oil money keeps buying golfers to jump ship, including Brooks Koepka, but also forces the PGA Tour to change up their own schedule (5:02). The KPMG US Women's PGA Championship electrified the DC area this weekend at Congressional, where a surging Lexi Thompson wasn't able to overcome her own short game to beat In Gee Chun (11:47).  Across the country at LA Country Club, Irishman Padraig Harrington won the US Senior Open in his first attempt, becoming the third golfer in a row to win in their debut at the major championship (13:46). This week's John Deere Classic event is a bit of a snooze-fest ahead of the Open Championship, but you can always watch the Scottish Open instead on a major US network all weekend (15:26). The CoL Book Club continues with Alan Shipnick's "Phil," and the guys are knee deep in the emotional story of Phil's 2010 Master's victory, and Phil's growing gambling problems on and off the course (17:07). In Tuned In, the guys head to the movies and give us their reviews. Alex finally caught the new Tom Cruise blockbuster "Top Gun 2," while Michael got to see The King in "Elvis" (27:11). This week's guest is a professional golfer from Australia, known best in the states for beating Tiger Woods twice in the annual match play tournament, Nick O'Hern. Nick chats with Alex about growing up "down-under," beating Tiger, his new book "Tour Mentality," and being a part of the new D3 Golf App (31:28). It's almost July, and Alex's Red Sox are surprisingly surging in the AL East, but they still have a long way to go to catch Michael's Yankees (1:00:37). The Stanley Cup was finally given out, and included on the Colorado Avalanche is a fellow Quinnipiac alum, Devon Toews (1:01:38). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is getting all greasy with his favorite hangover food, while Michael is making babka with Oreos (1:02:29).

Golf delivered again on Sunday with compelling dramas, handshake controversies, and coverage angst. Andy and Brendan begin with the Women's PGA Championship, where Lexi Thompson had another torturous Sunday collapse in a major. They compare it to last year's slow bleed at Olympic, and wonder how she can keep coming back. There are also some kind words on Congressional and harsher words for the pace of play and a skimpy broadcast window. Xander's weekend at the Travelers is assessed, both good and bad, and the thrill of Theegala, both good and bad, is also praised. They ponder the Tour's next move in light of Pierceson Coody's impressive showing after turning down LIV money while Oklahoma State stud Eugenio Chacarra turned pro to take the LIV cash. Nick Faldo's segment on Brooks running off to LIV is also discussed. Finally, there's delight and appreciation expressed for Haotong and Paddy's victories.

Today's episode is all about the Solheim Cup. We recap a great weekend of amazing competition, despite the USA coming up short to the European team 15-13. We rave about Inverness Club's set up of the course, the shotmaking brilliance under pressure, and the appropriate mix of exhibition/competition with the first tee DJ, Juli Inkster dancing,  and players doing karaoke. We came away from the weekend really impressed with Brittany Altomare, Matilda Castren, and Leona Maguire as players who really came up big over the course of the event.Okay ... fine, we did talk about the Tour Championship for a brief minute, but only to bemoan the fact, yet again, that this was not really a playoff.  And guess who the captain picks for the Ryder Cup will be and whether Brooks is healthy enough to play. Finally we wonder if the PGA Tour will stay out of their own way with the announcement of a "Drive to Survive" like show with Netflix over the coming year and who might be part of the 12 man roster they will work with.

Alex recently competed in the US Women's Open at Olympic Club, including playing a practice round with Lexi Thompson and she shares some stories and reactions from that week. Prior to her time at Clemson, Alex was the top ranked junior in Ohio by the AJGA and 14th overall in 2018 according to Golfweek. She also recently competed as an amateur in the Symetra Tour event in Cincinnati and she opens up about that experience.
