Spurscast: Post-Draft Analysis and Summer League Impressions In Spurscast episode 663, Spurscast host Paul Garcia, Project Spurs writer Benjamin Bornstein, and former Project Spurs writer Trevor Zickgraf discuss: The latest news and notes for the San Antonio Spurs Analysis and Summer League impressions about the Spurs' rookies Jeremy Sochan (out for Summer League), Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, and Dominic Barlow Latest New and Notes The Spurs officially waived Danilo Gallinari on Friday. The team has also officially signed all three first round pick rookies in Sochan, Branham, and Wesley. The Spurs can still open the most cap space in the league, though they haven't made any major signings or trades since free agency began July 1. The only two moves the Spurs haven't made official are the signing of Gorgui Dieng and the two-way signing of Dominic Barlow. Post Draft Analysis and Summer League Opening Game Impressions In the episode, Bornstein and Zickgraf analyze the Spurs drafting Sochan with the 9th pick, Branham with the 20th pick, Wesley with the 25th pick, and agreeing to sign Barlow to a two-way contract. Branham, Wesley, and Barlow's play in the opening game of Summer League against the Cleveland Cavaliers are also discussed. Sochan won't play in any of the Summer League games after exiting health and safety protocols and because he's also dealing with a hamstring injury. The Spurs have four Summer League games remaining Sunday against the Golden State Warriors, Monday against the Houston Rockets, and Thursday against the Atlanta Hawks. Their final game will take place on either July 16 or July 17. Spurscast: A Week into Free Agency In Spurscast episode 662, Spurscast host Paul Garcia discusses: Joe Wieskamp and Jeremy Sochan missing all of Summer League The additions of Gorgui Dieng and Isaiah Roby to the Spurs The options the Spurs can take with their cap space Where the roster currently stands Latest News Joe Wieskamp will have to miss the Las Vegas Summer League after spraining his right ankle according to the team. Jeremy Sochan will also miss all five Summer League games after returning from health and safety protocols. The Spurs officially signed Blake Wesley earlier this week, but the team still hasn't signed Sochan, Malaki Branham, and Gorgui Dieng. The Spurs also reportedly have until July 8 to waive Danilo Gallinari before his deal becomes fully guaranteed for $21.4 million this coming season. The Opening Week of Free Agency In the opening week of free agency, the Spurs agreed to a one-year deal with Dieng and they claimed Isaiah Roby off waivers. As part of the Dejounte Murray trade, Jock Landale was traded to Atlanta, and then Atlanta traded him to Phoenix. Lonnie Walker IV officially signed with the Los Angeles Lakers this week. What are the Spurs doing with their cap space? The Spurs can potentially open up to $38.4 million in cap space and the question remains, what can they do with that cap space? There are still notable free agents available like Deandre Ayton and Collin Sexton, while there's also the possibility of being a team willing to acquire contracts for future picks. Lastly, the Spurs could just do nothing with their cap space. Where does the roster stand currently? Assuming Gallinari will be waived soon, the Spurs' roster will have 13 players on guaranteed contracts, two players on non-guaranteed deals, and one player on a two-way contract.

I get it, it's frustrating! But since it's the holiday season, there's no reason to be sad or annoyed. So let's have a bit more fun. Lots of laugh in this episode just because that's all we can do at this point, laugh it off! Instead of calling it our Buy List, let's now call it the "who's next on the COVID list" since every time we do talk about some players we can add, they get into the health and safety protocol. Now we end up asking who's the better add - Tacko Fall, Gorgui Dieng or Onyeka Okongwu? This was fun though! Hope you listen and enjoy! Catch us in any of these podcast platforms! In Spurscast episode 623, Spurscast host Paul Garcia and Project Spurs writer Collin Reid discuss: The Spurs' free agency week where they agreed to terms with multiple players and acquired other players in trades What the Spurs would now need to do to trade for Ben Simmons Why more changes to the roster have to take place before opening night of the regular season Salt Lake City observations on Devin Vassell, Joshua Primo, and Joe Wieskamp The Opening Week of Free Agency The Spurs will reportedly acquire Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a future first round pick, and two future second round picks in a sign-and-trade deal that will send DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs acquired Chandler Hutchison and a 2022 second round pick from the Washington Wizards in a five team trade. The Spurs sent the draft rights of 2015 first round draftee Nikola Milutinov to the Brooklyn Nets. The Spurs agreed to terms with Doug McDermott on a three year, $42 million deal. They agreed to terms with Zach Collins on a three year, $22 million deal, and they struck a deal with Jock Landale of Australia for two years. The last agreement came with former Spur Bryn Forbes agreeing to return where he started his NBA career in San Antonio. In the episode, each agreement is discussed and why the Spurs might be able to send Young out in a future trade months from now. Along with DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Patty Mills, Trey Lyles, and Gorgui Dieng have all moved to different teams as well. Keita Bates-Diop is still a restricted free agent in free agency, though the Spurs have until August 13 to pull his qualifying offer without his permission. What would a Ben Simmons to Spurs trade look like now? With the Spurs' cap space now gone, a discussion takes place in the episode of what a new trade deal would look like if the Spurs had more interest in trading for Ben Simmons. More Roster Changes on the Way Once all the Spurs' signings and trades are made official, the team will have 17 players on the roster (not counting the two two-way spots). This means before the opening game of the regular season, the Spurs will have to get the roster count down to 15 players. The Spurs currently have Drew Eubanks on a non-guaranteed deal with a guarantee date of August 19. Even if Eubanks were waived, the team would still have to waive or trade a player to have the roster ready by the opening game of the regular season in October. Salt Lake City Summer League Observations The last part of the episode focuses on Devin Vassell's increased playmaking in Summer League and initial impressions of Joshua Primo and Joe Wieskamp's first Summer League games. Plus, the podcast examines what's the blame for the Silver and Black's recent 1-5 slump during the team's last big homestand of the season. And the pod says goodbye to Evan, who's off to Tampa Bay!

On this week's episode of KGW's 3 on 3 Blazers podcast, we debate whether injuries are the only reason for the Portland Trail Blazers' poor performance this season, talk about what kind of trades we expect the Blazers to make this season, make predictions for the next four games, answer YOUR questions and play another rousing game of Rip It! Get more Blazers coverage at kgw.com/blazers 2. We're now less than a month away from the trade deadline. We touched on this in our last podcast but let's make it a question this time. Do you think the Blazers will make a move for a top-of-the-line forward (i.e. Kevin Love) or does the organization settle for role players to better fill out this roster? Jared: I think the Blazers are more likely to make a big move at the deadline than trade for a role player or two. This is the moment for Portland's front office. They have these big expiring contracts, they have all their first-round draft picks going forward and they have some intriguing young players they can include in trade offers. If Portland strikes out trying to make a big move, I think they're more likely to keep Hassan Whiteside and Kent Bazemore the rest of the season and go into the offseason with some cap space to work with. I still think the Blazers will ultimately be the team that trades for Kevin Love. Portland reportedly tried to trade for him two summers ago. He reportedly wants to play for the Blazers. There's some smoke there. If the Blazers don't trade for Love, the only other top-of-the-line forwards who might be on the market are Robert Covington and Danilo Gallinari. If Covington is available, he'll be a hot commodity and could generate a bidding war. If the Blazers were willing to take back Gorgui Dieng and include some draft compensation, they'd have a chance. Trading for Gallinari is a big risk because he could leave this summer as an unrestricted free agent. Do you give up a first-round pick if there's a chance he doesn't stick around? Seems unlikely. Orlando: I think we're all in agreement that a trade is coming. It makes the most sense. Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes says it's hard for him to believe Kent Bazemore and Hassan Whiteside are in Portland after the trade deadline. That's a lot of money that could return a big name like Kevin Love. I wonder who else is out there, though. The Blazers do a great job of not leaking much information, so it has many of us guessing. It seems like it's just as realistic they bring in multiple players that aren't All-Star caliber, but fill needs like defending and perimeter shooting. I won't be surprised when they go that route of settling for role players, but this is a chance to swing for the fences and bring in a player they likely couldn't get via free agency. Nate: I feel my blood boiling again. With regards to the trade deadline, I've said the Blazers finally need to push their chips all in toward the goal of winning a championship over the next three years. I believe Portland needs to make a move for a top of the line forward in order to compete for a championship. They're not going to get an opportunity in free agency or the draft to do that. But outside of Kevin Love, is there another high-level forward that will be available? There may not be. So, I think Olshey will ultimately go with filling out the roster with role players. And if that happens, Blazers fans should be disappointed. Even with a deep bench, I don't believe a starting lineup of Nurkic, Collins, Hood, McCollum and Lillard can compete with the LeBron and Anthony Davis-led Lakers or the Kawhi Leonard, Paul George-led Clippers.
