POPULARITY
The Replacements are already here both in population and in the military and police force. Literal unholy, hateful beings will carry out what you thought could never happen here. It happened here before about 160 years ago. America was the first to fall. This time will be much worse and more complete. If it weren't the only thing to talk about, I'd much rather discuss ANYTHING else. Focus spent away from the coordinated assault on the American population is no more than a distraction. All other things are only important if we are in a stable environment where we are able to explore them. In a situation of active threat against our very existence, concerning ourselves with personal future goals is an exercise in futility. The countdown had commenced long ago. The false authority continues to make moves and announce greater, more egregious advances against our freedoms, our health, and our very lives. I would like nothing more than to think about other things. I attempt to. Then another avalanche of purely wicked, predatorial developments become known, and it's crystal clear where our very near future is heading. No we didn't "choose to be born in this era." That's a nonsensical whimsy designed to make you ripe for martyrdom. This is a completely unnatural state of affairs we are being subjected to without any say in our own fates. They are building a greater prison within the less noticeable prison we were spawned into. The Earth, especially progressive in America, is being made uninhabitable. The regime here has declared war on animal, plant, and human life at large. What more do they really need to say? Denial of this is no escape from its effect.Follow This channel NOW:https://rumble.com/c/c-7873716Go to My site, use code: MEM10 for 10% OFFhttps://SemperFryLLC.com and get the best hot sauce in the world.Become a Member of FTJ Media for only $5/mo.https://FTJMedia.com and click "Go Pro"To Join the Stream:https://vdo.ninja/?room=4roomBe a Producer:https://GivesendGo.com/BaalBustershttps://buymeacoffee.com/BaalBustershttps://paypal.me/BaalBustersTo join the Patreon, use this link:https://www.patreon.com/c/KristosCastBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/ba-al-busters-broadcast--5100262/support.
You know, Shayne sprang this topic on Jay faster than Darth Vader force‑choking an admiral. Darth Vader. The Joker. Hannibal Lecter. Killmonger. Dr. Evil. Freddie Krueger. The Beer Thursday guys cracked open some whiskey and went full villain bracket.Shayne's picks: Darth Vader tops the list — cool suit, James Earl Jones voice, terrifying hallway scene in Rogue One. The Joker comes in close second — sometimes sinister, sometimes funny, always in purple.Jay's picks: Hannibal Lecter — so smart and charming you almost like him... until you remember the whole eating-people thing. Norman Bates — the original "something is very off about this guy" villain. And Dr. Evil — because sometimes evil just needs a Mini Me and a cat.The real debate: Are the best villains the ones who think they're the hero? Jay says yes. Killmonger had reasons. Darth Vader was pushed to it. Even the Joker had a rough go.They also briefly wondered if Elon Musk is secretly a supervillain and watched a Netflix movie about AI wiping out humanity (casual Tuesday stuff).Spoiler: they ran out of time before they ran out of villains. Episode OverviewThe Butcher Shop goes deep on one of the Great Lakes predator fly world's most distinctive patterns in this conversation with Eli Berant, the Michigan-based fly designer and founder of Great Lakes Fly. Eli is the creator of the Optimus Swine — a reverse foam head-embedded, side-kicking musky streamer that has been turning heads and producing fish since around 2009. In this episode, host Marvin Cash walks Eli through the full arc of the pattern: the lake musky problem it was designed to solve, the unconventional decision to reverse a foam popper head to create a slower fall and a pronounced glide-bait wiggle, the material choices that define the fly's profile and movement and the step-by-step construction logic from spinner bait hook to laser dub head. The conversation covers the full Swine family — the original 8–9 inch version on a 6/0 Mustad, the scaled-down Swine Junior for river smallmouth and stripers, the fettuccine-foam Pot Belly Swine for subsurface river applications, and the articulated Maximus Swine and Maximus Swine Junior, which remain something of a "secret menu" offering. Eli also addresses color selection by region — from olive-and-pink for fired-up Tennessee muskies to the Wisconsin-proven Willen's Villain black-white-yellow combo and his own favorite Mardi Gras pattern — and breaks down his preferred line and leader systems for lake musky versus river smallmouth applications. Throughout, the discussion grounds fly design theory in direct, tactical fishing application.Key TakeawaysHow reversing a foam popper head toward the rear of the hook creates a slower fall rate and induces the Optimus Swine's distinctive side-to-side glide-bait action. Why proportionality in bucktail application — specifically how much material per section and how many sections — is the most common failure point for tiers attempting the Swine for the first time. How to tune the Pot Belly Swine's fettuccine foam piece by removing individual strips to achieve neutral balance and proper swim orientation before fishing. Why a jerk-strip retrieve with a sinking line (350–450 grain tip) is the preferred delivery system for lake musky, allowing the sink tip to hold depth while the fly kicks side to side on each pull. When to dial back retrieve aggression and employ a stutter-strip or extended pause with the Swine Junior, particularly during cold-water conditions when bass are holding and waiting. Why sharing newly discovered synthetic fly tying materials openly — rather than hoarding them — is essential to keeping those materials in production and available to the broader tying community.Techniques & Gear CoveredThe Optimus Swine is designed around a jerk-strip retrieve that drives its foam-induced side-to-side action, and Eli breaks down exactly how to execute it — stripping two feet with the line hand in alternating pulls, roughly like ripping a bag open. For lake musky, he runs a 10-weight with a 350–450 grain sinking tip, paired with a short 3–4 foot leader from loop to fly — a butt section of 40-pound to wire, finished with cross-lock snaps for fast fly changes. River smallmouth and striper applications drop to a 7- or 8-weight with a 200–350 grain tip depending on conditions. Construction-specific details are substantial: Mustad 32608 spinner bait hook (6/0 for the original), Rainy's Mini Me medium foam popper head reversed and goop-set with silicone adhesive, synthetic yak hair blended with flash for the tail, grizzly saddle feathers as flanks, Magnum Flashabou, everyday bucktail applied in top-and-bottom sections, laser dub for the head, and 1/2-inch eyes pressed and held in a two-touch goop cure process. Anadromous Fly Company tungsten carbide scissors get a specific callout as Eli's go-to cutting tool for heavy production tying.Locations & SpeciesThe Optimus Swine was developed specifically for lake musky, with Lake Saint Clair in Michigan serving as the primary proving ground — a relatively snag-free fishery that allows anglers to fish sinking lines freely across the water column. The pattern's documented multi-species versatility extends to Great Lakes migratory species, pike, lake trout, stripers on the East Coast and river smallmouth, including Eli's personal use of the Swine Junior on Lake Saint Clair for targeting large smallmouth by eliminating the smaller fish. Color selection is explicitly regional in the episode: olive-and-pink for fired-up Tennessee fish, pink-and-chartreuse or the Willen's Villain black-white-yellow for Wisconsin tannic water, and Mardi Gras (pink, chartreuse, black head) as a broadly effective pattern.FAQ / Key Questions AnsweredHow does the reversed foam popper head make the Optimus Swine swim differently than other musky flies?Positioning the foam head toward the rear of the hook — rather than at the front — reduces the fly's sink rate compared to a traditional epoxy-head pattern and shifts the center of buoyancy rearward. This causes the fly to kick side to side with a pronounced glide-bait cadence on a jerk-strip retrieve, rather than simply pushing water or diving. The effect is amplified when fishing a sinking tip, which holds the running line low and forces the rear of the fly to tip upward and roll on each strip. What are the most common mistakes tiers make when tying the Optimus Swine?Eli identifies two primary failure points: applying bucktail in clumps that are too large, which destroys proportionality, and using too much laser dub in the head, which throws the silhouette out of balance. The fix for bucktail is learning to feel the correct bundle size — roughly the width of a toothpick at the pinch, the width of a popsicle stick at the ends — and building five top-and-bottom sections before reaching the laser dub head on the original Swine. Managing the laser dub means stacking it, pulling off loose fibers and removing material rather than adding more. How do you tune the Pot Belly Swine to swim correctly for river applications?Because the Pot Belly Swine uses fettuccine foam strips in place of the reversed popper head, Eli ties in more foam strips than needed — six to eight — and tells buyers they may need to remove one to four strips to get the fly to balance and swim true. The goal is first to eliminate any spin or tilt, then to dial in the side-to-side action. This is the same principle as Barry Reynolds's flash philosophy applied to buoyancy: put in more than you need because you can always remove it, but you can't add it once the fly is finished. What line and leader setup does Eli prefer for lake musky with the Optimus Swine? For open lake musky fishing on snag-light water, Eli runs a 10-weight with a Scientific Anglers sinking tip in the 350–450 grain range, specifically preferring striper-style lines with a long 26–28 foot tip section. Leaders are intentionally short — 3–4 feet total from loop to fly — built with a 2-foot 40-pound butt section going straight to wire, then a cross-lock snap at the fly. The short leader keeps the fly in the sink tip's depth zone and maximizes the kicking action on the jerk-strip retrieve. How should retrieve style change when downsizing to the Swine Junior for smallmouth or stripers?Moving to the smaller patterns calls for a less aggressive retrieve cadence overall, but Eli emphasizes breaking out of monotonous repetition — consciously varying the retrieve is as important as the base technique. Key adjustments include a stutter-strip (half-length pulls done twice in quick succession) and extended pauses, which become particularly effective in cold water when bass are holding and watching the fly. The foam piece in all Swine variants allows the fly to hang suspended during a pause without sinking, which is the primary trigger for following fish.SponsorsThanks to TroutRoutes for sponsoring this episode. Chiunque avesse voluto incontrarla poteva trovarla immancabilmente o a casa, a filare o cucire, o in chiesa a pregare.

Luke 19:1-10[Jesus] entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him.All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.” Most of us know the story of Zacchaeus well. I can't hear his name without the requisite ear-worm … that oldy, but goody Sunday school classic … “Zacchaeus was a wee, little man; a wee little man was he. He climbed up in the sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see...” Of course, there's so much more to Zacchaeus than what any of us learned in Sunday school. He is a pint-sized prototype for the lost and looking. Zacchaeus is the “Mini-Me” for every man, woman, and child who ever had a longing to know – or to know more – about Jesus. Zacchaeus sets a precedent for what it means to know Jesus, to be known by Jesus, and to live differently because of Jesus. See, it's important that we're told Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector – and a rich one at that – because chief tax collectors were first century opportunists who contracted with Roman officials to collect money for the government. It is not a compliment – but more of a comment about the limited quality of his character – when the gospel says Zacchaeus was a wealthy chief tax collector. Because Zacchaeus, as a “son of Abraham,” was a Jewish man, taking advantage of his Jewish brothers and sisters, for his own benefit, and in cahoots with the government that was their oppressor. And he was short. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, as far as you and I are concerned. But you can't help but wonder if that, too, wasn't a dig or a jab, just like all the rest; that he had to climb trees like a child might, in order to get a better view above the crowds.)Anyway, because of all of that, it's easy for us – so many generations later and so culturally and historically removed from Jesus that day in Jericho – to think we don't have much, if anything, in common with Zacchaeus. People in our neighborhood, in or our congregation; people in our circle of friends or family don't talk about how rich we are, do they? None of us works for the oppressor, do we? We can't possibly be any more selfish or self-interested than the average bear, can we?The easy ways we distance ourselves from the likes of Zacchaeus remind me of a question raised by an ethicist named Peter Singer who asks – almost rhetorically – “If you saw a child drowning in a shallow pond, would you wade into that shallow pond to rescue the child, even if you were wearing your favorite, new pair of shoes?” Most people – and I would suspect everyone of us here – would answer that question with a quick and easy “yes,” myself included. We would enter a shallow pond to save the life of a drowning child without a second thought, no matter what shoes we were wearing. But Peter Singer suggests that, in reality, truth-be-told, we answer that question in the opposite way, daily – every time we spend our money or use our resources in ways that don't meet the needs of the world around us. In other words, even though we can't see them in the water, there are children drowning in proverbial ponds all over the world as I stand here before you in my own favorite new pair of shoes (I have a matching pair in blue, just for good measure); the money from which could have saved any number of children, in any number of ways – be it a simple meal, a dose of medicine, a vaccination, or even a pair of shoes to cover and protect their own fragile, freezing feet, in the coming winter.Which is to say, I might have a thing or two in common with Zacchaeus, after all. And maybe you do, too.I mean, Zacchaeus had a home. He had plenty to eat and to drink and to spend. He likely had a sense of security, by way of his connections with the Romans and all. And I bet he had a couple of nice pairs of sandals, too. But apparently, all of that still didn't matter as much – it wasn't as fulfilling, perhaps – as he'd hoped. He was still looking for something that made him climb a tree, just to see this Jesus who was rolling through town. And if you look around – and maybe, even, in the mirror – you'll see the same is true today. The house, the cars, the boats. The clothes, the toys, the stuff. The school, the degree, the 401K. Our culture works really hard to convince us that there is no such thing as too much money or too many things or enough of our favorite stuff. Can you imagine an amount of money that would be too much for you and yours? How much is enough before you would feel comfortable giving 10% of it away, as Scripture suggests? And is that likely to happen anytime soon? We could always make more, have more, save more. And we do – or we try. We try and we try and we try. We run and we run and we run. We climb and we climb and we climb. Until we end up like Zacchaeus – up a tree and still searching. Up a tree and out of tricks. Up a tree and farther away from God and Jesus and faith and purpose than we ever were when we first started to climb. So today, we're called to look down – like Zacchaeus did – and to see the answer standing at our feet. Jesus shows up and says “hurry and come down. I must stay at your house today.” “Get down from there. Stop. Come with me. Let me come with you. I know a better way.”Jesus doesn't chase after Zacchaeus or hunt him down or shake him out of that sycamore tree. Jesus doesn't zap Zacchaeus with a bolt of lightening or shame him in front of the crowds. Jesus doesn't do any of the things the crowd thought Jesus should do to punish the sinner they all saw in Zacchaeus. And Jesus doesn't do any of that to us, either.Instead, Jesus invites himself over. Jesus shows up and offers forgiveness, he shows acceptance, he gives love and grace and hope to the one person no one else thought was worthy or capable of receiving it – maybe not even Zacchaeus, himself. And then Jesus says, “Today, salvation has come to this house.” And he doesn't say that because Zacchaeus finally antes up and promises to give half of his paycheck away or because Zacchaeus commits to pay back – times four – all those people he'd ripped off in the past. We know too much about God's grace to pretend Zacchaeus paid for the salvation Jesus promised him that day.No. When Jesus says, “Today salvation has come to this house,” it's all about Zacchaeus' identity as “a son of Abraham.” Zacchaeus, too, was a descendant of Abraham and a child of God. Jesus reminded Zacchaeus … sinful, greedy, tax-collecting Zacchaeus – in his fresh, fancy, favorite pair of shoes … that even he was part of God's plan for creation; the plan to use his blessings to be a blessing for the sake of the world. And that was life-giving news to the little, first century Scrooge. We are talking a lot about money around here these days (and making no bones about it) – mostly because we need it to build what we believe God is calling us to build in order to grow our little part of the kingdom at Cross of Grace. But all of this talk about money isn't just about bricks, mortar, square footage and bigger kitchens. It's about remembering our call as children of Abraham, to divest ourselves of the things that keep us – and the Church – from fulfilling God's plan for the world. And it's about God's call for us as Partners in Mission in this place; a call to share grace and good news and our resources with all people in ways that are unique in this community. So, as we pray about and make our commitments to this capital campaign – and I hope each of us will pray about and make a commitment to this capital campaign – let them be made with the same amount of surprise, gratitude, generosity, and joy we hear from Zacchaeus this morning. And let's do it, not because we have to but because we get to and because we are able. And let's let the same transformation that came to Zacchaeus come to each of us, as a result. And when that happens – when we let our lives be changed by God's grace and by our own generosity – I believe we'll know something new about salvation, “today,” on this side of eternity. And we'll get a glimpse of God's heaven right where we live.Amen

Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey take on the outrageous 2002 spoof comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember, the third film in the beloved spy parody franchise directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, The Campaign). Mike Myers (Wayne's World, Shrek) once again delivers multiple hilarious performances as Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, and the eccentric villain Goldmember. This time, Austin teams up with Foxxy Cleopatra, played by Beyoncé (Dreamgirls, The Lion King), to stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from using a time machine to take over the world. The ensemble cast includes Michael York (Logan's Run) as Basil Exposition, Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) as Number Two, Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken) as Scott Evil, and Verne Troyer as Mini-Me. The film also features memorable cameos from Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Danny DeVito, Steven Spielberg, Britney Spears, and Kevin Spacey in the iconic opening sequence. Packed with over-the-top humor, outrageous disguises, the hilarious "Hard Knock Life" rap with Dr. Evil and Mini-Me, and plenty of pop-culture references, Goldmember cemented itself as one of the most quotable and absurd entries in the Austin Powers series. Whether it's Austin's awkward reunion with his father Nigel Powers (Michael Caine, The Dark Knight, The Cider House Rules), Beyoncé's stylish spy antics, or Goldmember's bizarre obsession with gold, the movie remains a nostalgic comedy trip and a defining parody of early 2000s pop culture. Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey dive into the outrageous world of 1999's raunchy spoof comedy classic, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, directed by Jay Roach. The sequel to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery brings back Mike Myers (Wayne's World, Shrek) in triple duty as groovy spy Austin Powers, the maniacal Dr. Evil, and the bizarre Fat Bastard. Joining him is Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, Drugstore Cowboy) as Felicity Shagwell, Austin's new partner in espionage, alongside Michael York (Logan's Run, Cabaret) as Basil Exposition and Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) as Number Two. Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation, St. Elmo's Fire) also hilariously plays the younger version of Number Two, while Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken) returns as Scott Evil, and Verne Troyer delivers one of cinema's most iconic comedy sidekicks as Mini-Me. This outrageous sequel finds Dr. Evil traveling back to the 1960s to steal Austin's mojo, forcing Powers and Felicity to stop him in a time-travel romp filled with over-the-top parody, ridiculous gadgets, and quotable one-liners. Famous scenes include the introduction of Mini-Me, Fat Bastard's “I eat because I'm unhappy” gag, and the groovy “mojo” storyline that cemented the movie as a pop culture phenomenon. With outrageous humor, cheeky spy send-ups, and a now-legendary soundtrack featuring Madonna's “Beautiful Stranger,” this entry remains one of the most beloved comedies of the late ‘90s. Last night, America sent B-2 bombers into Iranian airspace, dropped massive ordnance, and reasserted a worldview that goes far deeper than current events. While analysts dissect escalation ladders and airbase footage, the real explanation isn't on a map—it's in our collective imagination.America doesn't just support Israel. We identify with it. In our books, films, and foreign policy dreams, Israel is the version of ourselves we secretly admire: smaller, leaner, deadlier. They don't negotiate first. They act, then explain—if they explain at all. This goes beyond strategy. It's narrative. In almost every American spy thriller or TV drama, there's a Mossad agent who arrives just in time: field-proven, morally unconflicted, capable of doing what American characters won't. They don't talk about “values” or “soft power”—they get the job done. They've become a recurring symbol of unapologetic competence, like a geopolitical Blue Fairy Godmother, guiding the protagonist out of moral paralysis and into action. This is not new. In the 1982 film The Soldier, Ken Wahl plays a rogue CIA operative betrayed by his own government. His only reliable partner? A female Israeli Mossad agent who helps him drive a Porsche over the Berlin Wall. She's more than a co-pilot—she's the last true believer. That film wasn't just Cold War fantasy. It was prophecy. It laid the groundwork for how Israel would be mythologized in American pop culture: not just as an ally, but as a moral upgrade. Why do we cling to this myth? Because Israel operates in a way many Americans now find nostalgically comforting. While much of the West wrings its hands over justice and diplomacy, Israel maintains clarity: war is real, survival is non-negotiable, and peace without teeth is a trap. Even in the egalitarian context—where modern nations debate the role of gender in combat—Israel long ago put rifles in the hands of women and sent them to the front. Dr. Ruth, America's beloved sex therapist, was once a sniper in the Haganah. That duality—civilian and soldier, soft and hard—isn't just history. It's symbolism. This myth persists because America is increasingly uncomfortable with its own strength. Our heroes are now haunted, compromised, regretful. Our enemies are humanized and our intentions suspect. And yet, we still build aircraft like the B-2. We still drop bunker busters. And when we do, we laugh at ourselves—like we can't quite believe we're still capable of that kind of action. This is where the comparison becomes irresistible: if America is the aging Dr. Evil—dramatic, outdated, mocked for asking for “one million dollars”—then Israel is Mini-Me. Silent, focused, and deadly. The one who doesn't wait for applause. But the joke ends when the bombs fall. Because however absurd our foreign policy theater may seem, the tools of violence remain as real—and effective—as ever. The B-2 bomber is like a dead pixel in the sky: invisible until it ruins your whole display. You don't see it until it's already too late. The truth is simple and disturbing: America and Israel share not just military assets, but a belief—often unspoken—that no one is coming to save you. Not the UN. Not social media. Not diplomacy. The world is not ruled by justice. It's ruled by the credible threat of force. So when we stand with Israel, we're not merely backing a democracy or a partner in the Middle East. We're affirming a worldview: that peace is imposed, not granted. That security requires violence. That you don't negotiate your way out of extinction. What much of the world calls extremism, we see as clarity. What others call war crimes, we call realpolitik. What they call barbarism, we call Thursday. And whether you agree or recoil, one thing remains true: we still believe in the gun behind the handshake. And so does Israel.

Ding ding ding!!!! Ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages!!! Welcome to tonight's fights. We have a heck of a show for you with people punching people and hilarious hijinks. Hold onto your beer, cause it is going to get foamy. The 1985 film Gymkata set out to answer the question: is gymnastics a kick-ass martial arts style? The film then quickly answered that question with a resounding "no." Though Austin Powers eventually won the fight in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Mini Me definitely messed him up. The round two battle of Austin Powers in Goldmember, however, was all Austin. The fight scene from They Live is both epic and completely ludicrous. . Both men landed devastating blows, but no matter what, they kept getting up. Every time the fight seemed settled, it started back up again for another brutal round. No person could possibly take the beating Frank and Nada gave each other. The 2004 adaptation of The Punisher is a very dark tale of a man getting revenge for the murder of his family. The battle between Frank Castle and The Russian packs the punches and the laughs. Frank's gun is no good because the Russian bends the barrel, and even a grenade proves useless. The comedy comes from the question of what it takes to defeat the Russian. As it turns out, a pot of boiling water does the trick. The Clone Wars is often regarded as one of the weakest films in the Star Wars franchise, and part of that could be the completely ridiculous Anikan Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber duel against Count Dooku. Obi-Wan is easily incapacitated and Anakin gets his hand cut off during some of the lamest choreography in the franchise. As if the fight wasn't silly enough, Yoda comes in to save the day, and none of his flips or moves is enough to defeat Dooku. Picking the funniest fight scene from Kung Fu Hustle is like choosing the most unsettling scene from Human Centipede; there are so many to select from. The Landlady and her husband, the Landlord, are Kung Fu masters, but they are no match for the legendary assassin, the Beast. Each ridiculous attack launched by the couple is thwarted by the Beast in an even more hysterical fashion. The fight plays out like a Three Stooges slapstick comedy with over-the-top martial arts violence. In the movie Airplane!, Captain Oveur inappropriately asks Joey if he likes movies about Gladiators, and the fight scene from Spartacus is almost certainly why. The 1960 Stanley Kubrick classic features plenty of oily combat that was more like dancing than fighting, but the Spartacus/Draba match-up was the least convincing. What was supposed to be a fight to the death looked more like two sweaty guys trying really hard not to hurt each other. All of this lazy choreography was sluggishly executed by grown men in diapers, making it one of the most unintentionally funny fight scenes in cinematic history. Of course, I am just cribbing from CBR (https://www.cbr.com/funny-movie-fight-scenes-ranked/). But that is because I am lazy. Greetings Beast Folk. Welcome to Dr. Moreau's island. Don't suck the water, kill the rabbits, or even pretend to memorize your lines. Such was the case with this film's two powerhouse leads: Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. You can literally see their egos taking over and ruining everyone's time. Forbidden Planet anyone? Not to mention the on-set witchcraft, the world's smallest man (inspiring Austin Powers' Mini-Me!), and ice bucket hats. Truly, this is a film everyone should see to believe. So dear Sayers of the Law: does this adaptation of an H.G. Wells classic stand the test of time? Or is it best left in the House of Pain? Plus, enjoy Peter Lorre's review of a Bela Lugosi haunted house romp called Spooks Run Wild. We're all running wild with this one. Now can we talk about China? Chinese forces today are surrounding Taiwan with massive air, sea and other military operations – the kind of exercises from which the Taiwanese defense minister has previously said the People's Liberation Army could roll directly into actual combat without warning. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping's Mini-Me, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, has mobilized artillery units on the border with South Korea. Such forces could deliver a devastating diversionary attack on Seoul at any time. Donald Trump has just warned about the danger posed by enemies within who may engage in violence here. Did you know that among them are many thousands of Chinese soldiers? American voters must be informed about the prospect of an imminent shooting war with the Chinese Communist Party, with candidates explicitly telling us what they would do to deter and, if necessary, to defeat that threat. This is Frank Gaffney.

Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/665 Presented By: Drifthook Fly Fishing, Angler's Coffee, Togiak River Lodge, Yellowstone Teton Territory Jonathan Farmer, steelhead fly tying guru and author of Chasing Chrome: Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies is here to take us into his world of Alaska and steelhead fishing. We'll hear the stories behind flies like the Graboid, Led Zep Prawn, and Mini Me, plus why Jonathan's shifting to more natural patterns and how he picks his colors. Jonathan ties some of the cleanest flies you'll ever see. He's been putting in 40 to 70 hours a week for over 10 years! Find out why so many people are looking him up and how his book is packed with tips to help you understand fly design. Ready to pick up some tricks from a pro? Grab a notepad. You're going to want to jot these down! Show Notes with Jonathan Farmer on Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies. 11:17 – Fly fishing started for Jonathan when he was just 17 during a backcountry camp in Colorado. He started with conventional fishing and even joined tournaments in Texas. He worked on sport fishing yachts in South Florida before moving to Alaska, where he got into fly fishing. 12:14 – Jonathan shares that each season in Alaska offers unique opportunities. In spring, he loves stone fly fishing on the Kenai. Summer brings great dry fly action and swinging wet flies. By fall, fish target spawning sockeye. Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies Chasing Chrome: Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies 21:20 – Jonathan talks about how he always wanted to write a fishing book. A few years ago, he started jotting down thoughts but put them aside. He teamed up with Mike at Mossy's Fly Shop for help with photos. 24:18 – The book features Jonathan's favorite steelhead and Pacific salmon flies, complete with step-by-step instructions. He says the book wouldn't be what it is without Marty Howard's input on its layout and design. Marty also co-wrote the book Steelhead Fly Tying Art and Design with Dec Hogan. Check out our episode with Dec Hogan here! Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies The Book's Creation 30:37 – Jonathan said the toughest part of writing his book was the editing process. He followed Marty's advice and printed three copies for friends to review. Visit Jonathan's website or Instagram to grab your copy of his book. You can also get a signed copy, which comes with three flies from the book! 34:07 – The book covers fly-tying techniques and color choices. Jonathan mentioned that while some flies, like the Led Zep Prawn, are super fun to tie, they can be complex. He enjoys having a fly box just to admire the cool designs, even if he doesn't fish with all of them all the time. Watch this video of Jonathan tying the Led Zep Prawn on Youtube: The Challenge of Naming Flies 36:08 – There are 21 unique flies in the book that Jonathan created himself. He said that designing flies is probably easier than naming them. “The Graboid,” was named by a friend without even knowing it. Many of his flies have music-themed names, like “Sure Shot,” inspired by the Beastie Boys, and “Crown Jewel,” from Brother Ali. He even has a tube fly named “Zoomer,” which was created during a Zoom course. Finding the Perfect Steelhead Fly Proportions 52:29 – Jonathan has been tying flies for nearly a decade and puts in a serious amount of hours—sometimes 70 a week! 53:26 – We dive into how to balance materials when tying the perfect steelhead fly. It's all about finding the right proportions—not too sparse, but not overly bulky either. If a fly feels too full, he advises creating a channel to slim it down. Jonathan reminds us that even experienced tiers sometimes end up with flies that are a bit bulkier than intended, and it's okay to make adjustments. 55:39 – Bulky flies don't move or breathe well in the water, which affects how they mimic bait. A fly that casts poorly or looks stiff in the water won't attract fish. Jonathan uses a tank in his office to test the movement of his flies. If it doesn't swim or breathe right after a few hours, it's a no-go for him, and he tosses it. The Mini-Me Graboid Jonathan shares the story of the Mini-Me fly. The Mini Me uses pine squirrel instead of rabbit, making it a smaller, more versatile fly. Jonathan uses it for steelhead, coho, and trout, especially in colors like black and red or black and blue. This is the prevalent idea of how we should define ourselves. It's delusional because these things will never reach an endpoint of satiety or fruition." - Dr. Shefali Tsabary Are You Raising a Mini-Me?
