Neil Bradley is a Portland native self proclaimed geek, (largely) self-taught computer software and electronics engineer, co-owner of the Ground Kontrol classic arcade and bar, and amateur music producer. He spent his formative years as a hobbyist working with early home computers, such as the Apple ][+ and TRS-80 computers, and later turned that into a 25 year career as an engineer at Intel. As a young kid, he grew up in the early days of video games. Neil later took his love of video games and all things electronic to the next level - he, along with several others, purchased Ground Kontrol, a classic arcade (at the time) and helped turn it in to a classi arcade and bar - Ground Kontrol - located in downtown Portland, Oregon @ 115 NW 5th avenue. He now works with and trains its technicians to maintain old school video games and pinball machines. As a classically trained pianist, Neil combined his love of music and computers and switched his focus to music production, and currently has a private studio with a wide collection of synthesizers and classic audio equipment and offers his views on personal tastes in music and the music industry in general. I'm back from the holidays and ready to face 2018 head on! It's been a rough few weeks having had a dumb cough thing that won't go away, but I'm finally back into the groove! This week I run through some cool info about the Portland Indie Game Squad, the Ground Kontrol Mario Kart 64 tournament, and just what the hell I've been playing lately. After all of that fun, I share a conversation I had with Mr Andrew Hair, a software developer who has been in and around the video game industry for ten years. He shares his experiences, inspirations, and insight on what it's really like to make big budget titles for larger scale developers, and surprise; it's not all sunshine and rainbows!Links, links, links! Pigsquad.com will get you up to speed with the Portland Indie Game Squad, Ground Kontrol's website and Facebook pages will show you the way to awesome arcade action, and Andrew is active on Twitter @AndrewHair.Be sure to also check out my other projects: the Annex audio drama podcast, and the Adventure Club podcast! This podcast is produced in association with funemploymentradio.com!

This action-packed episode finds the rejects playing a few rounds of Tac/Scan and discussing the finer points of Sega vectors. Jordan hauls games to Eagle, Idaho and brings back a special interview with Steve from Grinkers Grand Palace. The rejects, also, attend Ground Kontrol's expansion launch party which leads them to question, are newer games now classic games too? Closing us out is a real mail delivery, with some special artwork inside.
Nick and Dyer dig into some nerdy news, including a Captain America storyline that definitely has nothing to do with Donald Trump (or so the creators claim) and how LSD can help people with depression. Dyer takes us inside the indie tabletop game world. He sits down with two creators to talk about how to get games made and what makes the Northwest’s gaming scene special. 1:45 -- Captain America & Trump 10:00 -- Microdosing LSD14:00 -- Ground Kontrol expansion19:00 -- What the Pacific Northwest does more than other states24:20 -- Inside the indie tabletop scene*Music by Kevin MacLeod and The DoubleclicksSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/nwnerd)

Jeff and Eric recommend a low-”Salt” diet on this week’s edition of Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider. “Ramona and Beezus,” on the other hand, is a cute and sweet movie that you could take the kids to. “Winter’s Bone” is a solid indie drama that you should not take the kids to, unless they like movies about hillbilly meth farmers. Jeff and Eric also discuss their favorite books from childhood, an upcoming casual meet-up at Ground Kontrol, Jeff’s over-indulgence at yesterday’s Brewfest, and Eric’s mother’s bladder.
