The exhibit, “Paris Pataphysics”, was at Paris' Musée Carnavalet. You were to re-read her article and send in the answer to this question: what is “pataphysics”?  The answer is,  as Ollia informed us, the "science of imaginary solutions". The "philosophy", invented by French writer Alfred Jarry, is marking its 150th anniversary this year.“Pataphysics has a taste for beauty and for the impossible made possible,” according to Philippe Starck. “This science is in the image of life, allowing serious things to be taken lightly, and light things seriously.”In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question, suggested by Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, president of the RFI Seven Stars Radio Listeners Club in District Chiniot, Pakistan. His question was: “What is the one piece of advice you would like to give to your fellow humans?”The winners are: RFI Listeners Club member Tasneem Saleh from Nilphamari, Bangladesh. Tasneem is also the winner of this week's bonus question. Congratulations, Tasneem! Also on the list of lucky winners this week are S. B. On Saturday October 8 at 8 pm, Triona Marshall (harp) will play a concert of both traditional and new music, including the first movement of Handel's Harp Concerto in B flat. Tríona’s music has been hailed by critics as both sensitive and revelatory. Drawing from the centuries-old harp tradition, her performances are renowned for their depth, virtuosity and flair. Years spent performing with orchestras and The Chieftains have brought her all over the world. However, it is as a soloist that the depth of her journey becomes most palpable. For more information on this concert, or to book tickets, which are €18 and €15 for concessions, please ring John at (01) 2818146 or email derekneilson@eircom.net .

Simply put, the vast majority of classical music performance features the work of dead composers. Performers don't have the chance to ask a work's creator for advice; can't inquire about phrasing, articulation, or dynamics; and almost never were these pieces written specifically for them. For this episode of LPR Live, however, quite the opposite is true. You'll hear the world premiere performance of Canadian-born composer Vivian Fung's Harp Concerto, the fruit of a close collaboration with New York City-based harpist Bridget Kibbey, heard here live at Le Poisson Rouge on April 6, 2014, with conductor Andrew Cyr leading the Metropolis Ensemble. Throughout the collaborative process for this tailor-made concerto, Kibbey and Fung were in constant contact, with Fung catering her writing to Kibbey's singular musicianship while Kibbey provided input for idiomatic – and sometimes un-traditional – approaches to the instrument. The result is a vividly colored exploration of style and sonority that showcases the virtuosity of both performer and composer. In conversation before the performance, Kibbey and Fung are joined by Metropolis Ensemble director Andrew Cyr to discuss the dynamics of their close-knit collaboration, the thrills of live performance, and what it took to turn the harp from angelic arpeggiator to virtuoso protagonist.
