Remember to copy me (thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr) when you write to her so that I know what is going on, too. NB: You do not need to send her your quiz answers! Email overload! This week's quiz: On 13 December, I asked you a question about Paul Myers' article “Nigeria power past Mozambique into quarterfinals at Africa Cup of Nations”. Nigeria had just beaten Mozambique 4 to 0. Paul noted in his article that the win was the biggest winning margin in a Cup of Nations knockout tie since the Africa Cup in 2010. And that was one of your questions: you were to tell me which countries played in the Africa Cup semi-finals in 2010, and who won that knockout tie by 4 to 0. The second question was: In the Nigeria/Mozambique match, what is the name of the Nigerian player who scored the fourth goal? The answer is, to quote Paul's article: “Akor Adams, fed by Lookman, thrashed in Nigeria's fourth goal 15 minutes from time to notch up the biggest winning margin in a Cup of Nations knockout tie since Egypt battered Algeria 4-0 in the semi-finals at the 2010 tournament in Angola.” So, Egypt/Algeria, and Akor Adams are the correct answers. In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question, suggested by RFI Listeners Club member Pradip Basak from West Bengal, India: “How do you deal with jealousy when your friend achieves something you secretly wished for?” Do you have a bonus question idea? Send it to us! The winners are: Amir Jameel, the president of the RFI Online Visitors Club in Sahiwal, Pakistan.  Amir is also the winner of this week's bonus question. Congratulations on your double win, Amir. Also on the list of lucky winners this week are Sharifun Islam Nitu, a member of the RFI Amour Fan Club in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and Faheem Noor, the president of the WULO RFI Club in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. There are also two RFI Listeners Club members: Hans Verner Lollike from Hedehusene, Denmark, and S. J. Agboola from Ekiti State, Nigeria. Congratulations winners! Here's the music you heard on this week's programme: “Heer on Sarangi”, traditional music from Pakistan performed by Ustad Sultan Khan; “Water No Get Enemy” by Fela Kuti, performed by Fela Ransome Kuti & Africa 70; “The Flight of the Bumblebee” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov; “The Cakewalk” from Children's Corner by Claude Debussy, performed by the composer; “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, and the traditional Andalucian “La Saeta del Larios”, sung by Diana Navarro. This week's quiz: On 13 December, I asked you a question about the then-new US security strategy, which presented Europe as lacking in "self-confidence" and facing "civilizational erasure" due to immigration. You were to re-read our article “EU Council president rejects political influence in US security plan”, and send in the answer to this question: What did the EU Council president, Antonio Costa, say about the difference in the idea of “free speech” between Europe and the United States? The answer is, to quote our article: "The United States cannot replace Europe in what its vision is of freedom of expression,” Costa said. "There is no freedom of speech if citizens' freedom of information is sacrificed to defend the techno oligarchs in the United States." In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question, suggested by RFI Listeners Club member Jayanta Chakrabarty from New Delhi, India. This week's quiz: On 6 December, I asked you a question from Jan van der Made's article and interview with Claudiu Nasui, a former Romanian economy minister and a current member of parliament in the pro-European Save Romania Union party. You were to re-listen to, or re-read, Jan's “On NATO's eastern flank, Romania finds itself at the crux of European security”, and send in the answer to this question: What does Nasui think is the core issue for defence spending? What does he think the EU needs to do? The answer is, to quote Jan's article: “It's also about spending efficiency. We should buy more European – like the SAM-T and other weapon systems – to achieve economies of scale. For cheap, efficient weapon systems, you need economies of scale, which we won't get if we don't buy European. So it's about more than just investing money – how you invest matters.” In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question, suggested by RFI Listeners Club member Debashis Gope from West Bengal, India. This week's quiz: On 8 November, I asked you a question about an article sent to us by RFI English correspondent Michael Sarpong Mfum, who reports for us from Ghana. His article, “Invasive water hyacinths choke wildlife and livelihoods in southern Ghana”, is about the water hyacinth, a free-floating aquatic plant native to the Amazon River basin in South America. It's also one of the world's most invasive species. The water hyacinth has found its way to Ghana, notably Lake Volta, a vast reservoir behind a hydroelectric dam that generates much of the country's power. Your question was: What are the consequences for Ghana's Eastern and Volta regions from this hyacinth invasion? What did Jewel Kudjawu, the director of the EPA's Intersectoral Network Department, warn about? The answer is, to quote Michael's article: “Jewel Kudjawu, director of the EPA's Intersectoral Network Department, warned that the weed's uncontrolled growth has dire consequences for aquatic life, fishing communities and hydropower production.” In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question: What was the best week of your life? This week's quiz: On 1 November, I asked you to listen to RFI English journalist Melissa Chemam's podcast Spotlight on Africa: “Inside Côte d'Ivoire's pivotal election: voices of hope and uncertainty”. Melissa had traveled to Côte d'Ivoire to cover their presidential election and talked to a wide variety of people about their hopes, their fears, and their desires for their country. Near the beginning of the show, Melissa talks about women who, she says, were very involved in the campaigns – as event organizers, supporters, and mothers. Melissa enumerates the main concerns of the Ivorian women – and that was your question. What are the four main concerns the women of Côte d'Ivoire voiced during the presidential campaign? The answers are, as Melissa noted in her podcast, work, school for kids, childcare, and healthcare. In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question: How do you make friends as an adult? Do you have a bonus question idea? Send it to us! This week's quiz: On 25 October, just days after the famous theft of the French crown jewels from the Louvre, I asked you a question about another famous theft from the Louvre. You were to re-read our article “Paris police hunt Louvre thieves after priceless jewels vanish in daring heist”, and send in the answers to these three questions: Which artwork was stolen from the Louvre in 1911, and by whom? How did he do it? The answers are, to quote our article: “In 1911, the Mona Lisa famously vanished from its frame, spirited away by Vincenzo Peruggia, a former museum employee who hid overnight in a broom cupboard and simply walked out with the painting under his coat.” Interesting fun fact, also in our article: The Mona Lisa at that time was not a famous painting at all. Because the theft made global headlines, when it was recovered two years later in Florence, it had become the most famous painting in the world. In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question: What “Instant Karma” incident have you been involved in?   Do you have a bonus question idea? Send it to us! Numbers 14:2a, 4, 11-12a, 13a, 15-16, 19 - Then all the people of Israel grumbled …. I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them ….” But Moses said to the Lord, “… Now if You kill this people as one man, then the nations who have heard Your fame will say, ‘It is because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land that He swore to give to them that He has killed them in the wilderness.' … Please pardon the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of Your steadfast love, just as You have forgiven this people from Egypt until now.”

Things Discussed: Michigan wins Big Ten Tournament, it doesn't matter for seeding, and then the get the strongest 12-seed in the history of Kenpom. UC San Diego preview: They figured out how to deal with a 7-footer in the third game against UC Irvine, the other good team in their conference of California state schools plus Hawai'i, but they haven't faced two 7-footers. Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones is their major usage guy who might end up having to play a lot of center because Nordin Kapic, their nominal big, is a 6'8"/245 stretch. PG Hayden Gray has the #1 steal rate in the country, and this is part from him harassing you from all angles all over the court, and part playing in a league of teams with bad handles. Need a plan for getting upcourt and warning when he's coming. Seeding: Proof that the Committee just needs to go, because they're trying to talk Kenpom now instead of rewarding seasons. Just use Wins Above Bubble like they do (with Pairwise) in hockey. Sam thinks they way overvalued nonconference games, which hosed Michigan given the context of Michigan's losses; some two-way thinking went on where close losses in the nonconference are a big deal but close wins in-conference are luck. The explanations offered up by the UNC AD were not inspiring. He was trying to make math cases but the guy is clearly illiterate in terms of math. Seth thinks they were trying to make a bracket instead of a field, using their own limited understandings of matchup stats to give top seeds easier paths, even though that's explicitly not what their job is. Evidence: they were talking about things like wins against Iowa State when their best player was out not counting as much. That's terrible. Round 2? Brian thinks Yale can beat A&M who can't shoot. They're the Iowa of basketball: they rely on Cooper DeJean returns. Seth thinks A&M rebounds too well and they always manage to hit stupid shots in the last minute. Nobotdy thinks we're getting past Auburn and Johni Broome, a point forward whose TO rate is 8. Louisville doing us a favor in Lexington? Chucky Hepburn isn't beating Auburn. How far is MSU going? "Cakewalk to Final 4" what? Auburn as well, unless ISU beats them, but their injuries are too much to overcome. Rooting for the Young Martellis (that's a 30-point spread). Remembering Giddy Potts. Theory: MSU has too many centers for Izzo. That's a great thing in the Big Ten where Our brackets? SEC-heavy. Florida, Auburn, Alabama…I mean I want to root for Houston but I hate their draw of upset specials and their slow pace that invites it.

After a hiatus where Stuart took up his new position as Homo Lodens Eastern Correspondent, we're back with another installment of We Intend to Move on Your Works! This episode the gang are reaching back in time to the distant past of the mid-1990s to play the John Prados' design Army of the Heartland. We're also jumping back in the narrative of the podcast to pick up where we left off after Shiloh in the western theater to spend some time with everyone's favorite incompetent Confederate: Braxton Bragg. Army of the Heartland is a big ol' operational game by one of wargaming's most unique designers and published by Clash of Arms. Featuring gorgeous Rick Barber maps, several fistfuls of systems, and more battle flags than a 1930s Cake Walk, what will the boys make of it all?

Ida Forsyne (1883-1983) was an African-American vaudeville dancer, known for her unique take on the famous Cakewalk dance. As a self-taught performer from the southside of Chicago, Ida appeared in various shows worldwide and toured her solo act across Europe. Eventually, audiences in the U.S. would come to outgrow her dance style, but Ida continued to stand by her craft and perform on her own terms into her 60s. As part of the famed cultural and artistic Harlem Renaissance movement, these women found beauty in an often ugly world. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. When we were students, we couldn’t help wondering... where were all the ladies at? Why were so many incredible stories missing from the typical curriculum? Enter, Womanica. On this Wonder Media Network podcast we explore the lives of inspiring women in history you may not know about, but definitely should. Every weekday, listeners explore the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of groundbreaking women throughout history who have dramatically shaped the world around us. In each 5 minute episode, we’ll dive into the story behind one woman listeners may or may not know–but definitely should. These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more. Womanica is hosted by WMN co-founder and award-winning journalist Jenny Kaplan. The bite-sized episodes pack painstakingly researched content into fun, entertaining, and addictive daily adventures. Fired up for another opportunity to do what I love, behind the microphone and in front of this camera (for those that are watching) sharing my thoughts and analysis on ALL that's happening in sports. On deck: (6:39) MLB is in the middle of their championship series as two teams are halfway to the World Series. The Yankees have handled the Guardians over the first two games of the series, winning both without breaking a sweat. Have I really been paying attention to this snoozefest of a showdown? I'll talk about that on the back end of the baseball segment. The NLCS has the Dodgers up 2-1 after another shutout in a blowout Game 3 vs. the Mets. I'll get into why the Mets MUST win Game 4 and even breakdown how important it is for them to get back to California up 3-2 with one game to punch their ticket to the Fall Classic?! CORRECTION: I said the the 90's Cleveland Indian teams never got to a World Series in that decade (although I mentioned they lost to the Braves and Marlins in 1995 & 97 respectively). I meant to say that they never WON a World Series. My apologies for the error. (29:18) After another disappointing loss on Monday night, the Jets may have found their cure to their recent losing ways acquiring former Raiders WR Davante Adams, reuniting him with QB Aaron Rodgers. I'll explain why this is NOT the case that Adams will come in and save their season. There was another big move in their own division just hours after Adams coming East as the Bills trade for Amari Cooper. How big of a factor will he be for QB Josh Allen and their offense? Jerry Jones is in the news again. He had some not so nice words for a couple of radio talk show hosts about the state of the Cowboys. I have a few not so nice words for the ubiquitous owner of America's Team. I'll peek at the Week 7 schedule, where there are a couple of good games (DET-MIN, KC-SF) and two more Monday night games? (47:23) College football has another big weekend with two enormous games (Georgia-Texas, Alabama-Tennessee) but what does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Is it much? Is it little to none? (53:34) The NBA tips off in five days. I'll review what the over/under win totals are as I prepare for an NBA Preview next week. (59:42) On the ice, there was a wonderful tribute in Columbus for their fallen player, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, who both died due to a bike accident in late August. What's going on in Colorado? The Avalanche have gotten off to an 0-4 start to their season. I'll discuss that, Edmonton finally getting a win after three losses, the fast starts in Dallas and Calgary and a goaltender scoring a goal as we're ten days into the regular season. Ken and Grant will talk with Winston Wu, a Christian light in the marketplace who works in financial services. Ken and Winston have been friends for around ten years. Winston started his relationship with Jesus at age 10, and he has a long legacy of believers on his mother's side. Winston followed Jesus for a couple of years after his salvation, and like many of us, he drifted. During the 2008 financial crisis, some new friends returned him to Jesus. Winston left his job in finance to become an entrepreneur - all while honoring Jesus in the particularly cutthroat environment of Wall Street.  We long for your faith to be encouraged and the fire of the Holy Spirit to ignite in your life by hearing these testimonies.
