63 Disney Features, 28 Pixar Features, 20 Pixar Shorts, 7 Disney Direct to Home Video, 4 Disney Theme Parks, 2 Disney Novels, and 1 Stage Play. It's hard to believe it but over the last 5 years, the Disney Dummies covered and talked about all that and more while getting into the thick about the good, bad, funny, and weird about all things Disney. We originally sought out just to watch all the Disney animated feature films but ended up loving doing this podcast so much we stuck around for much longer for all the spinoff series. Alas, all good fairytales must come to an end so join us as we close this magical chapter in our lives and make way for new beginnings as we take a well deserved rest from the show. Lucy Dacus has a new album coming out on March 28th, called Forever Is A Feeling. So, in the week before it comes out, I thought it could be nice to revisit her Song Exploder episode from 2021. It's about the beautiful and brutally heartbreaking song "Thumbs," which I love. And since recording that episode, Lucy's won three Grammy awards as part of her band Boygenius, including Album of the Year. But back in 2021, I had a really nice afternoon talking to Lucy. She was the first guest to come over and record with me at my studio, in person, after COVID hit. So I have a lot of fond memories about this one, and I hope you'll enjoy listening or re-listening to it with me.Lucy Dacus is a singer and songwriter from Richmond, Virginia. She put out her first album in 2016, and in 2018 she formed the band Boygenius with Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers. In June 2021, she released her third album, Home Video, which includes this song, "Thumbs." The first time I heard it, I knew I wanted to ask Lucy about how and why she made it. After some COVID testing, we spoke in person here in Los Angeles. And she told me the story of how "Thumbs" took months and months to get right. For more, visit songexploder.net/lucy-dacus.

Our second straight home video foray into the Worrell-verse. Merry Christmas and regular episodes resume next week!
#SpiderMan #KravenTheHunter #Kraven #Sony #SpiderVerse This movie is standard action fare in line with the sort of Direct to Home Video throwback from the 80's/90's. The added bonus is this movie using Kraven as the basis of said action film. While the character in the comics does have lore that you could build a movie on, this film scratches the surface in ways that could've been better. You ultimately get a film that ends up being very middle of the road despite it being the best of the SpiderMan spinoff set of movies. Thank God Sony is ending this.
In this week’s Perspectives Pastors Podcast, Rev. Brittany and Rev. Trudy continue the Advent season discussion, this time focusing parents coming home, as inspired by Luke 2:1-5. It’s the well-known story of soon-to-be-parents Joseph and Mary traveling home to Bethlehem as required by the mandatory government registration, commonly told during Christmas Eve services. But the specificity of Luke’s retelling of the Christmas story isn’t entirely historically accurate when it comes to the timeline and tax census details … which can cause people to question the validity of the rest of the story. So, Rev. Brittany and Rev. Trudy apply their biblical study knowledge to sort out the historical exaggerations, theological statements, and societal burdens of Joseph and Mary’s time to weave together Luke’s plausible intent for his approach to the story of the birth of Jesus. Along the way, they ask how the Good News applies to Mary and Joseph and all others who are impacted by the arrival of a baby – especially when it brings a whole new set of financial, emotional, and societal stressors. Get ready for a whole new take this well-known biblical passage! It's a special Halloween Home Video episode as dive into the 1991 classic ERNEST SCARED STUPID! Knowhutimean, Vern?
WoooOOOOOoooOOOOOoooo, it's that time of year again! It's Halloween, so it's time for The Studies Show hosts to face their fears, and read the research from one of the weirdest areas of science, parapsychology. This time it's all about psychic mediums. What does it mean to test whether someone can talk to the dead? Are we any better at doing it now than we were 100 years ago at the height of “spiritualism”? And what do the most recent results tell us about the existence of the afterlife?Happy Halloween!
Yes you read that right coming soon to VHS, a movie is coming to VHS in the year 2024!!! And yes Marvel has delayed Blade one again, this time seemingly forever, and NYCC had some great announcements. In the gaming space, Ronald D Moore is taking over the God of War show, and Ubisoft disbands a team that made a successful game, who does that?? Meanwhile they continue to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2, and a new Rayman is coming.
The gang explore's Pamzaam's recently NVLBI-raided house to find any remaining clues. But will they be able to find a VHS player to view said clues? Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! We hope all the dads out there had a wonderful Father's Day yesterday! Long before MAX released "A Christmas Story Christmas" back in 2012, there was a direct-to-Home Video sequel to that iconic holiday classic simply called, "A Christmas Story 2"! Naturally, the elves had to cover it as part of "Bad Sequel Month", but is this one *really* as bad as you'd think? They're joined by the always wonderful Matt Eurich of "TGI Podcast" to debate that very question in this fun, festive episode! Also discussed this week: exactly when we start getting excited for the Ber months during the hot summer slog; new, upcoming Christmas movies and television specials; what we've all been binging lately; and much, much more! This is one episode you want to be sure not to miss! So, settle in and enjoy! We can guarantee you that this is the perfect way to kick off your Monday! As always, thanks for your love and support, y'all! ❤️
It's easy to see why this 80s Flick resonated at the time. Layoffs in traditionally American male workplaces, especially the auto industry, had landed innumerable men on their living room couches - a stark contrast to the seventies when a total of six men reported being stay-at-home dads in America. That's right, just six. This resulted in many of their wives having to head into the workplace themselves to help make ends meet, but it also meant these men were forced to tackle domestic responsibilities previously foreign to them. You know, like their kids. For those of us who grew up in the eighties, a movie like this was a staple of cable TV. It's popularity coincided with the rise of HBO and Home Video rentals, so it was in constant rotation in a lot of households. It was also the launching point for stardom for its lead actor, Michael Keaton, and original screenwriter, John Hughes. So grab your woobie, hide the chili from the baby, and get ready to make some home improvements (220, 221…whatever it takes) as Ben Carpenter and I discuss “Mr. Mom” from 1983 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover on this episode: The discussion between Jack and factory workers about the movie Rocky where Jack says "when you're down, you're not necessarily out." A worker then imitates the Rocky theme song. Jack later heeds his own advice, and his turnaround montage uses the Rocky theme song. In the scene where Jeffrey Tambor's character fires the engineers, he reassures them that "you guys are terrific engineers. You're too good not to catch on somewhere." Michael Keaton's character Jack replies, "Where are we gonna catch on? Nagasaki?" Three years later Keaton starred in “Gung Ho”, a film which opened with his character, an automotive factory foreman, traveling to Japan to convince a Japanese automaker to reopen the factory. This film wasn't released until a year or two later in some countries as in 1983 Michael Keaton was an unknown outside the USA and although Terri Garr was slightly better known, she wasn't considered a big enough name to carry the film. By the mid 1980s Keaton had a couple of moderate size hit films behind him so the film finally crept out into some cinemas or onto video. Bret Berg from the Museum of Home Video and the American Genre Film Archive joins us and he has chosen a pair of made for TV movies ranging from 70s horror to 1990s ripped-from-the-headlines true crime. Our first feature is GARGOYLES (1972) one of the many TV terrors that scarred Gen-Xer childhoods. Cornel Wilde and Jennifer Salt are a father-daughter team of occult researchers who discover a race of living gargoyles in the caves of New Mexico. Former SF 49er and LA Ram Bernie Casey in full-body Sam Winston make-up effects plays the winged-stuff of nightmares as the Gargoyles' leader + Scott Glenn as a young dirt bike punk! Then, Kellie Martin is an ambitious nerd girl who murders mean girl Tori Spelling in DEATH OF A CHEERLEADER aka A FRIEND TO DIE FOR, the most watched TV movie of 1994, if Wikipedia is to be believed. The film is based on the true story of 15-year old Kirsten Costas who was stabbed to death by a classmate, Bernadette Protti, on June 23, 1984. While this movie is a departure from what we'd usually program on OMFYS, something about it dredged up Cory's memories of being accused of horrible animal mutilations because he was the only goth kid at his high school, and Bob found parallels to a murder near San Francisco that his mom was briefly suspected of. This movie may have been even more traumatizing than GARGOYLES! In the opening segment, Bob, Bret and Cory talk about other made-for-TV horror movies, and the inspiration behind The Museum of Home Video, his weekly "found-footage variety show for stoners, seekers, archivists and drinkers." Bob brings up The California Music Channel, the San Francisco Bay Area's public access answer to MTV, which is something he hasn't thought about since the 80s. Cory counters with The Box, Los Angeles' music video request show. Is there a hyperlocal Chicago or Milwaukee version of MTV? We want to know! Be sure to check out Bret Berg's weekly live stream of media weirdness Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm PST at www.museumofhomevideo.com Thanks Bret. A24's box office hit 'Civil War' marks another landmark in their shift from indie to mainstream since its founding in 2012. Its recent $225M private equity financing raises questions about maintaining its independence. Despite uncertainties, A24's commitment to quality cinema has earned it a dedicated following and plaudits. Yet, parallels to past indie studios suggest a potential fate of acquisition and the end of A24 as we know it.Lee welcomes data journalist and pop culture lover, Daniel Parris, author of the Stat Significant newsletter, who has crunched the numbers to analyse the rise of A24 and whether it predicts trouble or further success in the future.Read Daniel's article here > Civil War' and the Rise of A24: A Statistical Analysis

Billy Joel's world tour supporting the Storm Front album was a huge success by all metrics. But behind it was a story almost as tumultuous as the album title and front cover portrayed. The tour was a necessity to earn back millions of dollars that Billy's former manager, Frank Weber, had stolen from him over the previous few years. It also featured a revamped lineup that saw both bassist Doug Stegmeyer and guitarist Russell Javors out of the lineup for the first time since 1976. Starting in December of 1989, Billy and the band hit the road for more than 170 shows over 16 months in 15 countries. The tour capped off Billy's 80s run by introducing two new players who would become long-standing band members. It also featured his landmark Yankee Stadium performances, which were commemorated in a Disney Channel & Home Video release in 1990 and a re-release on Blu-ray, CD and vinyl in 2022. We're counting down the days to New York Minute's 20th anniversary, but before we get there, we have to talk about another countdown that is unfortunately a touchstone of this era in Mary-Kate and Ashley's careers: the countdown to their 18th birthday.During the press tour for New York Minute in 2004, which opened just one month before the girls turned 18, the media became fascinated with a new trend of websites dedicated entirely to counting down the days, hours, minutes & seconds to when Mary-Kate and Ashley would become "legal." This type of discourse has been around since Hollywood has had child stars and 40-something creeps have had air to breathe, but one thing was different about 2004: the internet. As many of our sources mention, only a little over a dozen Mary-Kate and Ashley "countdown" sites were created, which by today's standards would hardly warrant a thought, let alone a news segment. But during the early days of the internet and with the world's most famous twins at the center of the story, this became a cultural fixation.Mary-Kate and Ashley even had to address this fixation themselves when they hosted SNL, with Mary-Kate signing off the show saying, "and remember, we're legal in 4 weeks!" So today, we're talking about what we remember about this time, how we feel about it now, and why why WHY does stuff like this happen? There are times when this topic gets difficult to talk about, so like for many of our podcasts during this time, please take care while listening. As promised, here are the links we talk about in this episode:Quick tiktokAnother tiktokAn old countdown websiteA gross forum from 2003Eminiem song "Ass like that" (MK&A part starts at 2:21)E!
