The UFC lightweight division just got even more interesting after newly crowned champion Justin Gaethje made it clear that he doesn't believe Ilia Topuria deserves an immediate rematch following their historic battle at the UFC White House card. Gaethje recently doubled down on his position, saying Topuria needs to earn another title shot before getting a second crack at the belt. On this episode of Weighing In, Josh Thomson & John Morgan break down the future of the lightweight division, whether Topuria should get an immediate rematch, and who deserves the next shot at Gaethje. We also discuss the UFC's brand-new Meta rankings system. The new rankings are generated using an Elo-based mathematical model developed with Meta and have already sparked major debate among fans and fighters due to some surprising placements throughout the rankings. Are the new rankings better than the old media-voted system? Has the UFC improved the process, or have they created a whole new controversy? Join the conversation and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Breaking news, Mainiacs! Right before we started recording this episode, the UFC announced that its new artificial intelligence fighter rankings — developed in conjunction with Zuck and the smart kids at Meta — are out! Finally, the pesky whims of humanity will no longer hamper the UFC's ability to rank fighters in each weight class from 1-15. Now, a computer will use “statistical modeling and machine learning with the deep domain expertise of the UFC” to tell us who's hot and who's not. It will evaluate “a comprehensive set of objective metrics, including outcome probability, win type, fighter trajectory, and weight-class sensitivities.” So, thank God that's crystal clear and fixed forever. Plus, we got mail about Conor McGregor's return! And the UFC didn't exactly get those Super Bowl numbers they were hoping for at the White House. Learn more about your ad choices. Google Pays SpaceX $920M Monthly: Google agreed to rent 110,000 Nvidia chips worth of data center capacity from SpaceX at $920 million per month through 2029, as bridge capacity for surging Gemini Enterprise demand. Anthropic separately pays SpaceX $1.25 billion monthly for similar compute access. Chrome 149 Record Security Patch: Google released Chrome 149 fixing a record 429 security vulnerabilities — including 22 critical flaws — with AI tools credited for helping discover the majority. Users should update immediately. Meta Smart Glasses Facial Recognition: Wired discovered hidden code in the Meta AI app for a feature called NameTag that would enable Ray-Ban smart glasses to scan faces and match them against biometric databases. Meta called the reporting dishonest, despite an internal memo suggesting the feature should launch when civil liberties groups are too distracted to push back. Women Secretly Filmed in Brussels: A Belgian TV investigation found men using Ray-Ban Meta glasses to secretly record women on the streets, some for dating coach social media content. Tutorials disabling the glasses' recording indicator are widely available online, and a dating coach in Spain was arrested for the same behavior. Xbox Game Pass Loses Millions: Microsoft's Xbox CSO confirmed the service lost millions of subscribers following a 50% price hike in Fall 2025, prompting the company to reverse course with price reductions and a renewed focus on exclusive titles.

Six months after their last roundup, Jacob sits down with Ari Morcos (Datology AI CEO, former Meta AI researcher) and Rob Toews (Radical Ventures partner, Forbes AI columnist) to take stock of an AI landscape that has shifted dramatically: coding agents crossing the long-time-horizon threshold has turned engineers into managers of agents, near-frontier open weight AI looks like it may be disappearing as Meta and the Chinese labs pull back, and Anthropic's restrictions on its newly released Fable model have its biggest supporters questioning whether safety framing is masking competitive positioning. The conversation runs through the full state of the lab wars, including Rob doubling down on his Sam Altman ouster prediction and the Bret Taylor succession theory, why Google's structural advantages remain intact despite falling behind on coding, what xAI's Cursor acquisition is really for, and Ari's claim that compute constraints could push labs to suspend their APIs entirely. The back half digs into the physical bottlenecks underneath it all, from atom and x-ray lithography startups challenging ASML to H100 prices reversing their decline, before closing with predictions: recursive self-improvement is closer than it was six months ago but slower than the takeoff narratives suggest, robotics is nearing its GPT-3 moment, and Anthropic's next chapter may be life sciences.   (0:00) Intro (1:40) Coding Agents Cross a Threshold (3:29) Is Open-Weight AI in Retreat? Bluetooth Bomb Scare: A United Airlines Newark-to-Mallorca flight turned back after a passenger's Bluetooth speaker was named an explosive-related four-letter word, forcing a full aircraft and cargo inspection.

This week, the boys open with Meta's new subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI. The features are mostly small upgrades, but the bigger story is clear: Meta is building a toll road around access, visibility and creation. The rent on rented land keeps going up. From there, Joe and Robert talk about LinkedIn's campaign against "AI slop." LinkedIn says it wants to reduce low-value AI content, generic posts and engagement bait. But is it really getting rid of anything, or just marketing the idea of a cleaner feed? The platform rewarded slop long before AI arrived. AI just made it easier to scale. Winners and Losers Joe's winner is YouTube creator Curry Barker and the box office success of Obsession, another reminder that creators can still break through outside the traditional Hollywood machine. Tom and Drew break down a stacked news day starting with the Trump DOJ signing off on a $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" settlement that wraps up Trump's pending lawsuits and grants tax-investigation immunity to him, Donald Jr., Eric, and the Trump Organization for any returns filed before the investigation date. Tom unpacks why this functions as a soft self-pardon, why the slush fund framing is structurally dangerous regardless of the merits, and why presidents need to operate knowing every move will be scrutinized after they leave office. From there, the guys get into Trump claiming he paused a bombing campaign against Iran an hour before it was set to launch at the request of GCC nations, US bond yields hitting their highest level since 2007, and the AIPAC-funded primary takedown of Thomas Massie in Kentucky — the one Congressman wearing a pin tracking the national debt, now removed by lobby money in the most naked display of money-in-politics this cycle. Tom delivers an extended argument on the overproduction of elites — why too many people are being pushed into white-collar tracks the economy can't reward, how this fuels the resentment cycle driving political instability, and why historical empires (including pre-Revolution France) collapsed under the same dynamic. He walks through the Niall Ferguson book on the Rothschilds as a case study for understanding the meta-rules of how the world actually works, and pushes back hard against the Jeff Bezos pitch to exempt lower earners from federal taxes — arguing that everyone paying in is the only mechanism that keeps the government accountable. Plus: Mark Zuckerberg's leaked audio explaining why Meta is recording employee computer use to train AI amid the layoffs, why Tom is heading to Piers Morgan to debate AI displacement, how Kobe Bryant's pivot from basketball to filmmaking models the right mindset for navigating technological disruption, Ashley St. Clair's claim that Elon had access to 2024 election data, and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson saying she "felt seen" being called a communist by Trump. This one is dense. Tom is in deep-dive mode the whole episode, particularly on the central banking and inflation theft mechanics that he argues are the real engine behind almost every political fight currently dominating the news cycle.
