New sales data reveals that the iconic Berserk was the highest-selling manga franchise of the latest season, outstripping even the likes of One Piece. The latest sales data by ICv2 shows that Berserk was again the highest-selling manga franchise in the most recently completed season. ICv2 has released its Top Manga Properties - Fall 2023 rankings, revealing that Berserk was the #1 best-selling manga of Fall 2023. Berserk's return in June 2022 has propelled the series' sales above some of the best-known titles worldwide, outselling works such as One Piece, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen and more. The series has consistently led since its 2022 comeback, with Vol. 1 being the best-selling manga of 2023 by dollar amount. The full top 10 ranking can be seen below. On February 21 2020, the comic book world was stunned by the sudden stepping down of Dan DiDio as co-publisher at DC Comics. As of now, no explanation has been provided for the move, with speculation rife over whether DiDio had been fired or had quit the position. With speculation swirling around the reasons and ramifications of DiDio's departure, we reached out to previous guest Rob Salkowitz for help in understanding what's just gone down. Rob is an author, consultant, educator, and is well known as an expert on the business of pop culture, providing regular insights to industry site ICV2 and as a senior contributor on media and entertainment to Forbes. And, with convention season now in full swing in the US, we also took the opportunity to discuss the potential effect of the coronavirus on attendances and potential guest cancellations for events across the country.

And when recording this right now it's the end of April, and guess what? There's a lot going on, on college campuses at the end of April, that being said, we're actually going to be splitting as of you. This is not your first time. Sometimes we do a full set. Kment on gains, we've been playing, and then another segment on Kickstarter or deep dive into a game. And we're actually going to be doing is combining those two things and some actually going to be talking about some kick stars that are going on that we haven't talked about, and Josh is going to be sharing about some games that he's been playing that being said, I am going to get kicked off with a non Kickstarter but it's a game I have played and I'm very excited for it to finally hit the market almost seven months after I, I played it and that is planet by blue orange games. So planet is a game. It's very different than other games in which think of a rubik's, cube holding in your hand. But instead of that it's like a ball and what you're doing is a magnetic ball and throughout the game, you're going to be picking up different tiles and adding them to this ball to literally make your planet, and then you're going to be scoring different animals that are gonna be splayed out in front of all the players for the different types of character. Six of the planet, they got in your hands.

BIG NEWS! Because our Kenta Shinohara podcasts were delayed we didn’t get around to covering a lot of important news from the past couple months. To remedy that, we decided to record a big news-focused podcast to get everyone up to speed! …This was a big bad idea. We accumulated nearly twelve pages worth of news, tallying to over one hundred stories in total! To make matters worse, we began recording late at night after I was already exhausted from drawing for nearly 20 hours that day. Thanks to a spotty internet connection, we ended up needing two recording sessions and over four hours of rough audio to cover everything we wanted to. Needless to say, recording this was a tiring process. You can definitely hear the exhaustion in my voice by the end of this podcast, alongside Colton’s groans of impatience. Though frankly, listening back to this episode I did most of the talking, so it’s kinda funny that Colton was more vocally upset by the experience. ^^, Regardless of how frustrating the process was, this was a necessary podcast to make. Discussing manga news is the reason this show originally came into being, and doing a purely news-focused episode brings us nostalgically back to the roots of our early episodes. It feels good to have finally released the Pokemon Adventures retrospective after months of editing it on and off. Doubly so after refueling my passion for the series upon flipping through the Pokemon Adventures artbook that Viz just put out earlier this week. It’s chock full of beautiful color art and illustrations from Satoshi Yamamoto’s entire run on the series, from the early GSC stuff to the recent ORAS arc. In addition to gorgeous renditions of the cover artwork, there are a lot of great colorized versions of iconic scenes from the manga that you can’t find in the regular volumes, which are a real delight. Even more so is the inclusion of the first chapter of the Pokemon Ranger webcomic Yamamoto drew back in ’06, which has never been collected in graphic novels before or translated in English! Yamamoto promises that in the next artbook, he’ll include more chapters, and considering that this story seems to explain what happened to Deoxys after FireRed & LeafGreen, I really hope he does so. This artbook was a real treat to read through as a long-time fan of the series and Yamamoto’s art, and I highly encourage every Pokemon Adventures fan to seek it out and support this release. Now, you might be asking yourself “why did he devote an entire paragraph to talking about an artbook unrelated to the content of this podcast?” Could it be…gasp, a paid promotion?! The answer my friends is…no. I wish I could get paid to shill Pokemon products. I genuinely just liked the artbook and wanted to let the people who enjoyed our Pokemon Adventures podcasts know about it. In full disclosure, I was approached by Viz Media after releasing the retrospective to promote the book in exchange for a free copy and I accepted. However, I had already preordered the book months ago, and I received it before I even released that podcast – over a full week before street date. So I’m being 100% bonafide in my appraisal and recommendation of that artbook. Jonathan and I are going to do an entire podcast about the evolution of Satoshi Yamamoto’s art because we love this series so much and want to keep talking about it. Unlike the Pokemon franchise itself, we haven’t sold out yet! However, if I had to shill for dough – and for a product I didn’t enjoy - I might very well not have a choice in the matter. You see, All-Comic.com needs money worse than a house pet in Kakegurui. Moving to new servers isn’t cheap, and we need a grand to keep the site afloat for another year. If we don’t get your support, we’ll need to put more adds on our site and start taking paid promotions. We even got an e-mail from some guy to run paid ads for his language-learning products on the show. Do you guys really want us to interrupt our podcasts to shill a product we don’t even use? You know what I’m talking about. You all saw how those Naruto Online ads ruined Mother’s Basement’s videos. Now we all start clicking away as soon as he goes into shill mode, even when there’s still half the review left! You don’t want that to happen to this podcast, do you? It feels good to have finally released the Pokemon Adventures retrospective after months of editing it on and off. Doubly so after refueling my passion for the series upon flipping through the Pokemon Adventures artbook that Viz just put out earlier this week. It’s chock full of beautiful color art and illustrations from Satoshi Yamamoto’s entire run on the series, from the early GSC stuff to the recent ORAS arc. In addition to gorgeous renditions of the cover artwork, there are a lot of great colorized versions of iconic scenes from the manga that you can’t find in the regular volumes, which are a real delight. Even more so is the inclusion of the first chapter of the Pokemon Ranger webcomic Yamamoto drew back in ’06, which has never been collected in graphic novels before or translated in English! Yamamoto promises that in the next artbook, he’ll include more chapters, and considering that this story seems to explain what happened to Deoxys after FireRed & LeafGreen, I really hope he does so. This artbook was a real treat to read through as a long-time fan of the series and Yamamoto’s art, and I highly encourage every Pokemon Adventures fan to seek it out and support this release. Now, you might be asking yourself “why did he devote an entire paragraph to talking about an artbook unrelated to the content of this podcast?” Could it be…gasp, a paid promotion?! The answer my friends is…no. I wish I could get paid to shill Pokemon products. I genuinely just liked the artbook and wanted to let the people who enjoyed our Pokemon Adventures podcasts know about it. In full disclosure, I was approached by Viz Media after releasing the retrospective to promote the book in exchange for a free copy and I accepted. However, I had already preordered the book months ago, and I received it before I even released that podcast – over a full week before street date. So I’m being 100% bonafide in my appraisal and recommendation of that artbook. Jonathan and I are going to do an entire podcast about the evolution of Satoshi Yamamoto’s art because we love this series so much and want to keep talking about it. Unlike the Pokemon franchise itself, we haven’t sold out yet! However, if I had to shill for dough – and for a product I didn’t enjoy - I might very well not have a choice in the matter. You see, All-Comic.com needs money worse than a house pet in Kakegurui. Moving to new servers isn’t cheap, and we need a grand to keep the site afloat for another year. If we don’t get your support, we’ll need to put more adds on our site and start taking paid promotions. We even got an e-mail from some guy to run paid ads for his language-learning products on the show. Do you guys really want us to interrupt our podcasts to shill a product we don’t even use? You know what I’m talking about. You all saw how those Naruto Online ads ruined Mother’s Basement’s videos. A new feature I'll be having up here on the blog is to present the best of free comic books available online.First up is Vision Machine by Greg Pak. You can read the comic on Comixology or download the PDF. Greg Pak has an exclusive interview up on Comics Alliance where he mentions that not only are you able to download/read the comic for free online, but eventually there will be a free print version available as well. Which is really interesting, having a book put together by money from the Ford Foundation and put out under Creative Commons license which means anyone can expand on the universe created within the pages or is able to remix or mashup the story however they see fit as long as the original source is credited. Truly free creative information. The article also has a lot of interesting points about digital comics and creator royalties.Which leads me over to another article discussing ICv2's number crunching of digital sales which is ultimately summed up as: "While the news for print was less than positive, with manga sales facing an estimated 20% drop in 2010, the news for digital comics was very good indeed, with Griepp projecting that digital comics sales would see a more than ten-fold increase this year over last."And:"But while manga and graphic novels decline, the real energy and growth has been in digital, which has expanded from a $500,000 market in 2009 to an estimated $6 to 8 million dollars in 2010, a more than ten-fold increase. Quite simply, digital comics are "the fastest-growing part of the comics business," said Griepp."It's interesting seeing this comic going out into the public, with its theme of free creative information with a donation based payment setup and the Orwellian Big Brother aspect of controlled information. I'm eager to find out which direction both the story within the comic and the story of the growing digital distribution and the role that this free comic plays in that.K
