Get ready to virtually experience the working world of IKEA on Roblox as the doors to the virtual store have opened. The opening of IKEA on Roblox follows a recruitment campaign launched on 3rd June, which offered people the opportunity to apply for one of 10 paid roles in the virtual store. Over 178,000 applications were received across Ireland and the UK, with 18,087 coming from Ireland. Two of the 10 successful applicants live in Ireland, in counties Dublin and Kerry. The lucky 10 applicants have now been selected and will kick off their virtual IKEA roles from today. Michael from Dublin, said, "I'm very excited and extremely happy to be chosen to be part of this new and innovative project and I can't wait to see where it goes in the long run and I hope I can be part of future projects. This current project has been fun and interesting throughout my whole experience so far." Alongside the paid players the broader Roblox community, gamers and IKEA fans are invited to explore a virtual IKEA store, wander around the home furnishings showroom and visit the famous Swedish Food Market and Bistro. Players can also venture into the IKEA world of work and take on a role as a virtual co-worker, serving up endless amounts of hotdogs and flexing their interior design skills to level-up and get promoted. All with the chance to win exclusive IKEA UGCs. Much like IKEA co-workers in real life, players in the game have the ability to develop their own unique career journey at their own pace and in any direction. Whether that be by taking on a more senior role, a move sideways into a different function developing new skills, or continuing to expand their experience in the same role. There's no set path to how you can grow your career at IKEA, where career progression is focused on helping co-workers develop their careers in their own way, and not just in a linear direction. Roles available in 'The Co-Worker' game are inspired by real-life jobs and have been curated to offer a glimpse into the opportunities available at IKEA while showcasing the brand's unique approach to careers. Roles include: 1. Sales Co-Worker - where players guide customers to products they are interested in, as well as keep the Showroom up to the IKEA standard. 2. Interior Design Co-Worker - where players are required to put together a room-set, following a design brief and pick the correct items of furniture and place them in the right places. 3. Sales Team Leader - where players recommend products to NPC customers based on their specific requirements. 4. Food Team Leader - where players will man the famous Swedish Bistro, serving food and drink to customers - meatballs anyone? Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager, IKEA UK, and Ireland: "Today has been a long time coming and we're extremely excited to launch IKEA on Roblox. We are always looking for new ways to attract and inspire the next generation of co-workers to imagine a career at IKEA. 'The Co-Worker' game is a fantastic way to give players a taste of our culture and insight into what makes the world of work at IKEA so special." The 'Co-Worker' game is available now on Roblox and can be accessed using the following link:roblox.com/games/17254019855/IKEA-The-Co-Worker. See more stories here.
Political Correspondent Paul Cunningham discusses the latest developments as Taoiseach Simon Harris visits Northern Ireland ...
Earlier this year, on International Women's Day, the Irish electorate was asked to vote in two referendums on changing Ireland's constitution regarding family and care. One of those questions was whether they wished to remove a reference to the role of women in the home, which some view as being out-of-step with modern Irish society. A lot has changed since the constitution was written in 1937. Ireland is now among the highest-ranking countries in Europe for gender equality. However, in both referendums, voters rejected the bid for constitutional change. In this programme, Leanna Byrne travels back to her home city of Dublin to explore Ireland's story when it comes to women, the family and work; speaking to Irish women about their experiences over the decades to now. Kinsale, Ireland In this episode, FAQ is: Where was your favorite place on your 90-day trip? . Today's Destination is Kinsale, Ireland Today's Mistake- Leaving my phone at the San Francisco airport counter Travel Advice: Keep your cool, especially when it's hot. FAQ: Where was your favorite place on your 90-day trip? Answer: I can't give you a favorite place overall, but I can give you one for each country. Let me start with the first country, the Philippines. I so enjoyed the snorkeling in El Nido, on the island of Palawan. It was an adventure in itself, as I landed in Manila, then in Puerto Princesa, and then took a bus to El Nido. Once I arrived, it was beautiful, tropical, and walkable. There were many nearby beaches to visit. The town had some good restaurants, and it was easy to converse in English with most people. Everyone here was friendly and relaxed, so they were on “island time” for the most part. The fresh fruits and fish dishes were memorable. Today's destination: Kinsale, Ireland One of my favorite small towns in Ireland is Kinsale. I was there in the 1980s and again forty years later, and it's still a quaint, beachy, Spanish-looking town. Getting to Kinsale is only about 40 minutes by bus from Cork, where there is an airport. But it's not so easy to get to if you are in Dublin, because that's another 4 hours by bus or train. It's in the southeast part of the Island of Ireland and is a harbor town with plenty of boats and history. City Tours, operated by Don and Barry, which are Historic Strolls and start downtown Kinsale. They are recommended by Rick Steves and by me. Don and his wife Jill are local legends regarding history and local storytelling. Today's Mistake- One big mistake: Leaving my phone at the San Fran airport counter Today's Travel Advice-Keep your cool, even when it's hot. I want to bring meaning to your travels. The Northern Ireland conflict between 1969-1998 is euphemistically called The Troubles. However, this belies its importance as the longest continuous-deployment of security forces in British military history and a casualty rate of 3,532 deaths and approximately 50,000 injured. The Troubles is often mistaken for a religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, however, at the heart of The Troubles is a violent political debate. Intelligence Fusion's Regional Analyst, Scott MacDonald, give us a brief history lesson surrounding the conflict in Northern Ireland, an insightful timeline of activity and providing recent examples of IED bombings, extrajudicial beatings as punishment and the continuation of threats and intimidation from paramilitary groups. Our 10-minute podcast concludes with Scott providing his interpretation of the conflict in 2020 and his assessment for the future. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022.
