If you're feeling particularly...um...tested lately (by people, by work, by life being life), welcome to the club. Because you, along with pretty much everyone else, are in the middle of a transition. And moving forward might feel so hard — or annoying — that you feel like maybe it's not worth the energy to even try. In this solo episode, we're diving into how to move forward when it's really tempting not to (and why those temptations feel so freaking tempting. I hear you!)...and how to use what's commonly seen as a "negative" feeling to your full advantage. SHOW NOTES: Prefer to read instead of listen? Here's a written version of this episode. Adorbs! Stress, like all other disturbances we experience, is an innocent misunderstanding of what's actually happening. If we can see stress as a pain response, then we can see how stress is an attempt to alert us to an opportunity to relax. No need to painfully fight your way toward a future that never arrives. - My Experience of Stress and Overwhelm - The Innocent Insanity of Being Stressed - The Gift of Being Stressed - Healing Stress through Appreciating Stress
Things get exciting in this week's Worcester Culture Watch podcast, as Victor Infante and Bill Shaner discuss the Super Tuesday primaries, Elizabeth Warren dropping out of the race, and the awesome parties Bernie threw last weekend. Then, Victor and Richard Duckett talk St. Patrick's Day and Derek Warfield & the Young Wolftones. All this, and music by Big Jon Short!
And then there were 5. Klobuchar, Steyer, and Buttigieg are all out. Is Biden doing more harm than good? Will the Dems screw Bernie again? So many elections today, and so much to talk about!
If you couldn't get enough of ice in the last episode, never fear, because I could talk about it for ages! In this episode I'll discuss different forms of ice besides just glaciers with my friend Mariama Dryak, who has spent years looking at Antarctica through satellite images and led expeditions on the Juneau Icefield in Alaska last summer.
Take a trip with us to Antarctica, Alaska and Washington as we talk about glaciers, computer modeling, and most importantly, bagels. This episode's guest is Clara Deck, my grad school roommate on and off the ice.
Always thinking of herself the "default girl", Martha Carrigan considers her life as one that has followed the straight and narrow - the expected route. But, to us - and, likely to those that hear her story - Martha's journey is far from ordinary. She helped start a high school. She is the CEO of career-building platform, Big Shoes Network. She has been hit by a car (multiple times...). Safe to say...far from average. Yet, like many of us, Martha shares a passion for people, and has allowed that defined purpose to guide her career. She never thought she'd be an entrepreneur, but her desire to help others has manifested itself in a thriving company that impacts thousands in the Midwest. For Martha, the analogy of spackling is very apropos when crafting a theme to represent her life - using her unique skills to fill gaps, assisting in the advancement of causes and people she believes in. This is her story. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/helium-books/support

Of all the stellar objects talked about in popular science, Super-Earths are almost criminally underrated, which is a shame because they represent some of the best places to find life, are an interesting addition to the debate about how to classify Pluto and bodies like it, and show the link between rocky planets in inner solar systems and gas giants. You could even say that if we really want to understand how solar systems are formed, we need to learn a lot more about the many Super-Earths we've keep discovering every time we look for new exoplanets…

Evan and Victoria return to the orange couch to catch up on the biggest anime news out of Hollywood, New York Comic Con, and White Base. Show Notes Evan and Victoria are excited about the confirmation of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable's anime adaptation. Victoria is bummed that Akiko Higashimura's Himozairu manga about men seeking to be better househusbands was suspended due to complaints from men. Fans held a "Naruto Pride Parade" (as Victoria calls it) at New York Comic Con Ron Howard and Imagine Entertainment are turning Tiger & Bunny into a live-action movie! Both Evan and Victoria are enjoying the slow burn of The Perfect Insider. One-Punch Man is a bit like Inferno Cop, so naturally Evan is in love with it. RWBY Volume 3 just launched on Crunchyroll, and Victoria is impressed with the improved animation. Once Johnzo stops picking at it, we realize someone has punched us in the mail sack. Apparently some guy or girl left a comment on our myspace page complaining about belching in a recent episode. Curiously, she didn't complain about the rectal prolapse segment. Different folks, we guess. T-bone conditionally addresses her complaint, subject to the cooperation of Coca-cola and its corporate cronies. In the Urban Legend, Warren explains the origin of the phrase "riding shotgun". If you operate a bakery near Naples, you might consider erecting some protective barriers out front. If you know what riding shotgun is called when a woman is driving, let us know via email (maskedman@limitedappeal.net).
