What Happens When We Pause for Wonder? Consultant, teacher, and author of Tracking Wonder, Jeffrey Davis says curiosity, innovation, and wonder will not only lead to more joy and satisfaction but also help us through adversity, raise the level of our productivity and creativity, and help us flourish and it all starts with a mindful pause. Wonder, Davis says, is the ability and willingness to "heightened state of awareness. Instant mindfulness is brought about by something unexpected that either delights us, disorients us, or both. " Jeffrey Davis explains how we can track wonder by defining and detecting the downer pattern, opening up to the world, and feeling the patterns that hold us back, keeping us from curiosity and wonder, then seeking out wonder and expanding into it. When we do, we can recognize the elevating moments, the higher experience we also experience in life and that, changes how we think, behave, and create. I love episodes like this with those who have yet to find God, because you can hear throughout his story how close he is to finding the true love, grace and journey God is offering him in the midst of Jeffery's journey to finding inner peace, wisdom and adventure. Jeffery's journey reminds me a lot of the path I took to finding Jesus and many of the insights and questions he shares and asks himself was questions I continued to reflect on until I started to think about what is greater than myself. Today's guest will be helping us tap into out own sense of wonder that can help you on your creative path. We have on the show author, entrepreneur and human potential expert Jeffery Davis.Jeff approach's life and work as a quest. Everything he does – from building a thriving business to writing books to serving as a branding strategist to designing live Brand Artistry Labs to delivering keynotes to guiding his two girls' through childhood – are part and parcel of the same quest for integrity, meaning, and making. But like most quests, mine has been neither easy nor straightforward. He has deliberately sought a life of meaning and making since he was 19 and declared in his private notebook that he would become a writer and preserve my imagination. In his 20s, he co-founded The Walden Institute, devoted to studying human potential through the intersections of neuroscience, existential psychology, and the literary arts. By age 31, though, he was all intellect and drive with a shrinking heart and vanishing imagination. He got to work with top-notch change-makers, and that includes our team of creative renegades at Tracking Wonder consultancy – our boutique consultancy focused on brand story identity, strategy, and asset development. Tracking wonder is not kid's stuff. It's radical grown-up stuff. Jeff lives with these burning questions that shape his days:How does Story change us?How is creating a signature brand with integrity a meaningful, creative endeavor? How is wonder the source of every human being's original creative genius? How are building a family and building a business part and parcel of living a life of making meaning, projects, a livelihood, and a difference? The result has culminated in this quest for tracking wonder. His new book is called Tracking Wonder: Reclaiming a Life of Meaning and Possibility in a World Obsessed with Productivity. Discover how the lost art of wonder can help you cultivate greater creativity, resilience, meaning, and joy as you bring your greatest contributions to life. Beyond grit, focus, and 10,000 hours lies a surprising advantage that all creatives have—wonder.Far from child's play, wonder is the one radical quality that has led exemplary people from all walks of life to move toward the fruition of their deepest dreams and wildest endeavors—and it can do so for you, too. “Wonder is a quiet disruptor of unseen biases,” writes Jeffrey Davis.“It dissolves our habitual ways of seeing and thinking so that we may glimpse anew the beauty of what is real, true, and possible.”Rich with wisdom, inspiring stories, and practical tools, Tracking Wonder invites us to explore how the lost art of wonder can inspire a life of greater joy, possibility, and purpose. You'll discover: The six facets of wonder—key qualities to help you cultivate the art of wonder in your work, relationships, and life How wonder can help us fertilize creativity, sustain the motivation to pursue big ideas, navigate uncertainty and crises, deepen our relationships, and more. The biases against wonder—moving beyond societal and internalized resistance to our inherent gifts Why experiencing wonder isn't really about achieving goals—though that happens—but about how we live each day Inspiring stories of people whose experiences of wonder helped them move through the unthinkable to create extraordinary lives Practical exercises, tools, and reflections to help you begin your own practice of tracking wonder.A refreshing counter-voice to the exhausting narrative hyper-productivity, Tracking Wonder is a welcome guide for experiencing more meaning and joy in the present moment as you bring your greatest contributions to life. If you are stuck or just need a jump start to your creative process then get ready to take some notes.Enjoy my "wonder" filled conversation with Jeffery Davis.

It’s only the second episode of this new fourth season, and we’re already mixing it up! We want to switch things up every once in a while this season, and this is one of those episodes. We gathered a panel of executive pastors and campus pastors. These are some incredible second-chair leaders, who sat down with me, and just got to fire away some questions that they’ve been having this past year as they navigated leading during COVID-19. This panel is from churches of various sizes, different demographics, and from all over the country. I was so happy to sit down with Jeffery Davis from Verve Community Church, Nick Dekold from Lakeshore Church, Sarah Nelsen from The Well, Stephanie Blanton from Freedom House Church, and Dillon Ritchie from Coastlife Church. The goal of today’s episode is just to share some wisdom, and our big question is, “What does leadership look like during COVID-19?” There isn’t exactly a playbook on how to lead during a pandemic. Our pastors have some of the same questions that we’ve all been asking ourselves. There is so much uncertainty right now, and we need constant flexibility. So what does leadership look like, and how do we lead well from the second chair right now? I believe the questions asked were some that so many of us have been facing this past year. We tackled real problems that we’re facing and had some excellent conversations wrestling through these topics together. Here are the questions and topics we cover in this episode: What advice on developing healthy relationships would you give pastors/ leaders transitioning into new roles or churches during this time? We live in a world where people are worshipping opinion over God, self over others, and convenience over the church. In what ways can we support our Pastors in challenging worldly culture, which sometimes causes people to exit the church and at the same time focus on mobilizing the church for growth? For those of us who have gotten the opportunity to return to in-person gatherings, one of the hurdles I think many of us have experienced is re-building our Serve Teams. What are some ways or maybe some methods that can help re-engage our church family in serving? What are some things that I can do as a second chair leader to help continue to move the vision of the church forward in a time of uncertainty and during a season where everything seems like it has been put on pause? When the church (The Christian church as a whole) is under so much pressure, our Senior Pastors need us to hold their arms up more than ever. How can we do a good job of this when we ourselves need someone to hold our arms up? How do we tap into support while we are their support? I pray this leaves you with some practical wisdom so we can all lead at our absolute best. Jeffery Davis lived the life he thought everybody' wanted him to live. He owned property in one of the most prestigious areas in San Francisco and worked in media sales, at Newsweek, The New Yorker, was involved with several start-ups, and was professionally invested in a business that had nothing to do with his passion; until he couldn't pretend anymore. He was out of touch with his feelings and unable to even recognize many of them; and although he was able to attract wonderful people as partners, he had no idea how to be a wonderful partner or how to create a fulfilling relationship. He was disconnected. Through his own learnings he created a practical process for people to follow to dive deep into what has been stopping them from living from their heart and gut (rather than always from the head), and the tools to powerfully create the lives they truly dreamt of living. if you want a life full of joy with a fire in your belly, he wants you to know it is possible for you, just as it was possible for him.To learn more about Jeffery, please go to: https://www.jefferydaviscoach.com Also check out his 12 week course, "Tapping Into Your Inner Wisdom” which oyu will find on his website. what you will hear in this podcast: when was the moment that the life others dreamed of living was not the life that was right for you do you have life upside down? living a life where the heart is the CEO and the mind is its personal assistant the success that comes from living in your head and the dissatisfaction that cmes with that leaving a legacy of love how to hear the whisper of the heart over the yelling of the mind hear about the process that brings your to your heart what part forgiveness plays in opening up and listening to your heart the fear of going into the heart and how scared we are of being hurt and how do people drop that silo of protection. how important it is to have a good relationship with your self the story of The Gardener and The Process of The Mosaic a question that will give you some homework to do how Family Feud becomes the root of how your values create your life and how our focus changes or actions an exploration of how to integrate all of our core values so that they support each other rather than force us to choose one over the other the practice of choosing a word as a theme for the year what does freedom with boundaries mean? can freedom with boundaries help to relieve the fear of being hurt the gift of heartbreak the story of The Trashman and the practice of compassionate listening hear how the juxtaposition of stories relate to eachother and how a=our thoughts create our reality] the book “Letting Go” by David Hawkins that Jeffery references around raising levels of consciousness the power of Breath listen to the words you say “a complaint is just a poorly worded request.” one thing all of us can do – “practicing compassion” to find out more about Danny, please go to www.DanielBruceLevin.com and to buy a copy of The Mosaic, please go to: http://a.co/dvgsgG3

Today's guest is obsessed with wonder. In fact, it's his vocation.Jeffery Davis is the founder of Tracking Wonder, where he explores how to reconnect with wonder and also help people tell their their stories through books, businesses and beyond. As a kid, he became concerned about paying attention to life and ensuring that he'd never lose his imagination. That led him to become a poet, a teacher, an author and then...everything fell apart. He realized he'd been living entirely "from the neck up," largely disembodied and disconnected from his heart. That awakening launched a years-long quest to rediscover a deeper, more soulful driver. It brought him back to wonder as a driving force in his life and eventually as his career. He has taught his signature approaches to creativity, writing, and branding at numerous universities, conferences, and centers around the world. An author, speaker, and online columnist for Psychology Today, he is in dogged pursuit of what helps creatives thrive amidst constant challenge and change. He lives in a farmhouse in the Hudson Valley with his wife and two girls.Maybe his biggest true driver, though, is to be the kind of adult whose life reveals to his daughters the grace and beauty and joy of a wonder that never ends. His new book of poetry is Coat Thief. In This Episode You’ll Learn:The gift that his father gave him, passed down from his grandfather. How he ended up living with his bachelor father during high school. How he faked being an extrovert growing up.Why his friends called him 'The Mystery Man'.His decision between joining the monastery or becoming a poet. The entry point that broke him out of his intellect and into his body. The two-fold silent promise he made to his baby girl after she was born.Mentioned In This Episode:Connect with Jeffrey: Tracking WonderQuiet by Susan CainBeat GenerationWilliam Carlos Williams: "The Red Wheelbarrow"Wallace StevensRobert CreeleyCity Reservoir by Jeffrey DavisFocus by Daniel GolemanTKV DesikacharThe Journey from the Center to the Page: Yoga Philosophies and Practices as Muse for Authentic Writing by Jeffrey DavisShiva SuturasGrab your spot at the Camp GLP at the Early Bird discount rate!
