As Pour Another Round preps for our 3rd Annual Pour Another Round Outdoor Winter Beer Fest, Derrick and Jonathan had a chance to visit brew day at both Karben4 Brewing in Madison, WI and MoonRidge Brewing Company in Cornell, WI. Joe from Karben4 worked us hard as we brewed a Maple Scottish Ale that will be poured for guests at the Beer Fest! Derrick has decided he'll stick to drinking the beer and isn't going into brewing professionally any time soon.At MoonRidge, we were excited to hear from Nick what beers he's prepping for the Beer Fest. If you're in the Cornell area, MoonRidge has bus tickets for sale to hitch a ride to the Pour Another Round Beer Fest in Green Bay! Tickets include MoonRidge beer on bus, event admission ticket (priced at $40), tip for driver. Niko Tonks from Yakima Chief Hops was in town and sat down with Derrick and Jonathan at Karben4 in Madison, WI to talk about the hop supplier, the process of hop selection and how they work with breweries around the globe. Yakima Chief is 100% grower owned.Yakima Chief is primarily American hops, owned by American hop growers, but they work with hop growers all over the world to produce 35-40% of the domestic hop crop. Zak Koga - Karben4 Brewing In the entrepreneurship world we are certain of two things: 1) Beer is awesome and 2) Business can be tough. Zak Koga of Karben4 Brewing shares in his experience of starting a brewery with his brother and a little help from his friends. He left a successful career in commercial construction and opened up a brewery. What does it take to start a brewery? A little luck, a lot of patience and the will to make it all happen are some key ingredients. Having a cat riding a fire breathing unicorn while looking ready to dominate the universe on your star product doesn't hurt. The beer with that image is Fantasy Factory from Karben4. Definitely check that beverage out when you are in the Midwest. Listen as Zak tells us the story of how Karben4 came to be, the decisions that had to be made and the results that came of all of his and his crew's hard work. Enjoy! We've watched in amazement this past year as brewery after brewery have pivoted out of draft and into cans. But this transition is far from a “set it and forget it” situation. An increase in packaged offerings has created an increase in aluminum demand, and in this episode of The True Craft Podcast, we discuss the potential aluminum shortage faced by craft breweries.Brandon shares how DC Brau has navigated the aluminum crisis in the past, what they've done to counteract the recent shortage, along with predictions for what the future of draft looks like. Then we bring in the guest for this episode, Zak Koga from Karben4 Brewing in Madison, Wisconsin. Zak is a great resource on this topic, especially since Karben4 has both an active canning line AND bottling line. He explains some of the advantages and disadvantages faced with offering both package types.Enjoy!Links:Woodman's MarketKarben4 BrewingDC Brau

Jaymes, Brad, and Paul talk about the most disappointing Brewers so far as well as the relative success of the pitching staff. The gang attempts what would ultimately prove to be a successful reverse jinx by criticizing essentially everyone who did anything well against Sonny Gray on Sunday. Finally, they talk about what exactly MLB plans to do with the Cardinals now that they can't possibly play enough games to really qualify for a legitimate playoff spot, and point out that they have, as of now, eight fewer wins than the Cubs while holding second place in the division. Rob Manfred continued his subtle dance of bad faith negotiating this week when he claimed he had the "framework" of a deal with Tony Clark, then owners threw a hissy fit when the union countered their proposal, all while the number of Covi-19 cases continue to spike in both states that host spring training, throwing the whole enterprise into question. Then it was onto an extended discussion of the Brewers five picks from this week's amateur draft, your obligatory European soccer question and Jaymes' favorite color. Also, the respective benefits of urinals, troughs and sinks are discussed for some reason. Support the podcast on Patreon and receive the Monthly Minor League Extra and Weekly Packers Preview.
