The theme for today's meditation is Living Our Identity: Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace, based on a prayer from St. Francis of Assisi. Today be challenged to listen and meditate on the prayer from St. Francis of Assisi as we read through it more than once. With the first reading, listen with your heart's ear for a phrase or word that stands out for you. With the second reading, reflecting on what touches you, saying it to yourself or writing in a journal. We invite you to listen again to this entire reading so that with the third time listening, consider responding with a prayer or expression of what you have experienced and ask God what this passage calls you to do or be. As the prayer is read a final time, rest in silence before God. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. Are you tired? Do you wonder when and if the demands on your time will ease? We know we need to carve out time to rest, yet it is an easy thing to trade for getting one more thing done. The truth is only as we trust God with our lives – the very moments of each day, will be able to let go of the work, the plans, the projects, the schedules, the demands that interrupt and the weariness of it all. God gives us permission to rest. It's a trust issue. Trusting God to hold our world together as we step off the merry-go-round and get our bearings once again. How easily we identify ourselves by the roles we fill - mother, father, teacher, doctor, athlete, and so on. We easily speak of what we do. How easily can we speak of who we are? Have we looked in the mirror, and held our reflection long enough to see, really see who is there? Take a few extra seconds to look at yourself in the mirror and ask God to show you who He sees. God will always hear our cry, and pull us out of the pit of condemnation. It is our hope in Him that pleases Him. He does not operate in time but in the outcome of maturing us to be who He knows we are. We don't see it. We will trust that whatever we are struggling with, will resolve in His timing. Open your heart to hope once again, and let God's Spirit remind you He has your back, He is with you, He will rescue you. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. What is it about Peace that we all seek? It is a feeling and a frame of mind. It is also a place where the heart rests, where our anxiety is calmed, and our worries are banished. Sometimes we are so occupied with seeking it that we miss it – to be at peace is to refrain from struggling, to accept where we are regardless of how we measure the journey. Often it's a choice – in the midst of chaos. Choose peace. Trust God. That's where he wants us to be. Trusting Him is our source of peace. In Him, we are at peace. We are reminded in this Psalm that it is our Father God who gives us strength and protects us. When we are facing oppression, and war, struggling against injustice and fear – it is not by our might or power but because we know and believe and have faith in God that we see His hand turn the turmoil into peace. The end of this Psalm sounds like everyday life. We go from having a good time, from living in confidence to being attacked without mercy and feeling lost. Our conversations with God, follow our experiences – from thanks to please help! There's comfort in knowing we're not alone – especially when we feel down. God is still near, and yes, He hears us. We are challenged throughout the Scriptures to be generous. We are encouraged to live from a heart that is not afraid of loss but is willing to love with an extravagance that cannot be quenched. The truth of being free in Christ is explained in today's meditation. It is sometimes hard for us to comprehend the reality of this as we tend to interpret freedom with movement and choices. The Scriptures speak of us being rescued from ‘the tyrannical rule of darkness', and this rescue releases us from the chains of sin. Might we consider that this too, has freed us to move – to stretch high and wide into new places of spiritual growth in Christ. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. What is important to you today? What do you value? Does it consume your attention, is it the center of your life? Today's meditation reminds us what a life with Christ is and should be. Every word God speaks is truth, life and holy. To speak truth is to speak life into another. To contemplate the truth is to integrate life into our being, letting it become us, that all that we speak is what the Holy Spirit has given us to speak – life and healing into the world that the world through Jesus' life might know our Father's love for each person. Grace is favor. It is a blessing the moment it is bestowed on another person. God sees our hearts and knows our intent. Today's meditation is based on selected verses from Proverbs, the Psalms and Matthew. Honesty is a virtue that we value as individuals and in society. Without it, we have no moral compass with which to navigate agreements, and social values. It is the bedrock of relationships and is critical to mental and emotional well-being of us all. God warns of dishonestly in business, instructing us to treat others fairly, to protect those who might be subject to others' deceit because to do so, is a type of justice. It is the thread of gold woven into our communities that keeps us in peace with one another. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. Today's meditation is based on selected verses from Psalm 19. As you listen to today's meditation let the words be written in dashes of light on your being. Creation says not a word, yet we hear and see the craftmanship of God everywhere. From the sun, moon and stars, to the mountains and the oceans it all displays greatness beyond our abilities. We cannot make or recreate what God has done or is doing. We can only participate. Might we join Creation in praise today to the one true God of the Universe? Such amazing truths about death! Without God's love and gift of dying for us, we would never see life as He intended for us to see nor experience the life He died to give to us. What do we seek in life? For many of us, it is comfort and opportunity. Perhaps adventure is at the top of our lists. Can we honestly say it is to walk in wisdom and to discover our purpose? Verse 21 goes on to claim that these empower us! Of course, they do, when we think about it… to gain experience and insight into living well and to know why we're here – that is how we count our days. That is why our blessings matter and that is why God cautions us to speak life into others' lives. Our purpose includes learning and demonstrating what being an apprentice of Jesus looks like today. Today's meditation is Psalm 25:12-22. Over and over we read – you are my shelter, you are my only hope, you only can save me. Our lives are full of these stories – where our feet were freed from traps and the sorrows of our hearts overwhelmed us. Yet, God… yet, God… was there in it all, with us. Our circumstances don't always change – but our hearts do. Come closer to us now, Lord. We need your mercy and we need these burdens lifted. We trust You, God. Wisdom is defined as “the ability or result of an ability to think and act utilizing knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight”. Verse 17 in this third chapter of Proverbs sums it up nicely: The ways of wisdom are sweet, always drawing you into the place of wholeness. That is what our hearts seek – to be whole, to live in that place of wholeness where we understand and accept ourselves and more importantly we ask God to add to us: knowledge, experience, common sense and insight so that to we are truly whole and living as holy beings in His world. Today's meditation is based on selected verses from Proverbs 8. Much of the book of Proverbs is focused on the purpose of wisdom, and is told to us as if Wisdom could talk. Perhaps we discredit Wisdom in thinking otherwise? If the power of life and death is in the tongue, in the words spoken, might Wisdom's words be speaking into life into us, if we are willing to listen, to accept and to apply what we hear? What are the rewards for seeking wisdom? In Proverbs 3, we're told it is a satisfied life. That being faithful to what we learn, shapes integrity into our souls. It is from our souls that we live. It is there where our character is formed. It is there that our loyalty and values are shaped. With wisdom we can pursue the best God has for us, bringing health and completeness to our very souls. Today's meditation is taken from Psalm 25. Three times in this Psalm reference is made to God's ‘unfailing love'. It is a promise, a reminder that God's love for us won't fail, it won't be less than all that we need – every moment. When others intend harm, and insult, God leads us in truth. He point the right way to go. A heart turned toward God will be rewarded with a love that covers sins, a hope that our Lord indeed hears and clear guidance for growing in grace. Those who rule may advance against you but God will demonstrate His love for you as your protector. He Himself is the fortress, the impenetrable wall of safety behind which you rest. Know that He will not let you down. Worship Him and trust Him to keep you safe – regardless of what you face. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. Today's meditation is Psalm 15. The privilege of dwelling with God is experienced when our hearts are aligned with right thinking and a posture of humility toward others. Daily we choose what we will say to and about others, how we will respond when rumors fly and to what end will we fulfill our promises? Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. (Ps. 51:10, NLT) Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. Please visit CFONorthAmerica.org to learn more about our retreats, and online courses. The earth belongs to God. The kings of the earth belong to God. Consider the implications of this truth as you listen to this Psalm. As His people, we are given seats of royalty – not to mistreat or misuse our position, but to bring honor to our great God of all creation, of all rule, of all the universe. May be live as those who are humbled by His attention, and attune to His commands. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. We cannot escape death, regardless of our social status. We cannot buy our way out of the final decree of life – that death is our physical destiny. Yet… God opened a way for us to live – to escape the totality of being dead forever by sacrificing His own life on our behalf. The result is life beyond the grave. God has redeemed us so we can move from grace to grace, and be transformed from the physical realm to the eternal one. Today's meditation is based on selected verses from Proverbs 4. Through the haze of today's standards, we choose every day to live with integrity. To not compromise. To listen intently to the voice of wisdom. Not reason. It is only through wisdom that we can finish the race before us, holding to our deep, unspoken dream of finishing well. We get up when we stumble for the revelation of life's meaning is only found in the heart of God. Wisdom calls to us to follow and learn well.
