"I'm sorry. I don't speak monkey!" For our lucky 13th episode we dive into the Nickelodeon produced, Brad Silberling directed, 2004 adaptation of the beloved children's book series. We acknowledge up front that this is not "quintessential" slime, and yet it has some fascinating components to look at through the slime lens. Notably, Jim Carrey, gross-out food, and inventive precocious children. If you're a Lemony Snicket fan, check out our earlier interview with director Brad Silberling for even more insight toward this movie. In this installment, I clean up a little old business regarding those "unrecoverably absent" portions of SciFi's three-part miniseries "Tin Man" from last time and rule out a possibility on Crowdsourcing Exhibit C, the crowd scene in the French Quarter of New Orleans. My Friday Night Feature explores a season 1 episode of "Samantha Who" and a bombshell revelation from season 1 of "Pushing Daisies." My Classic Collection traces the 1.0 version of this video cataloging project, episodes of NBC's "Life" and "The Universe" on the History Channel, and ABC's presentation of Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events." My Current Collection has logged nearly a score of "Supernaturals," a few more "Fawlty Towers" and closed out my collection of "Archers" and "Brockmires." I saved a standout episode of "The Family Guy" and determined that I'm going to go back in and recatalog my episodes of "The President Show" to make them easier to navigate. Finally, in What I've Been Watching, I can't say I stayed spoiler-free on "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi," but I can say it's absolutely worth a view.

In this Sex and the City prequel, the difference between nineties HBO and current network television couldn't be more apparent. Sold perhaps as a slice of life show for teens, we couldn't help but scratch our heads and ask ourselves "but like... who is this for?" To be fair, it is a wonderful show and we had a delightful time watching it, I'd like to believe anyone who does would feel the same and so it's for everybody, but from a specific market standpoint.... shrug emoji? We discuss how apparently Connecticut in the 80's was more racially inclusive and diverse than New York in the 90's, or at least, their television portrayals were, how sometimes you get your money and get out, and how Jim Carey and Neil Patrick Harris were BOTH in different versions of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Tune in each Monday as we choose a new show and make more wildly inaccurate assumptions. Okay byeeeeee.

What happens when you read a beloved and well-known children's book for the first time, and instead of being a child you're a fully grown adult? It's difficult to involve yourself in the story and let your imagination drive things forward, especially when you can't help but deconstruct the narrative and suck the joy out of everything. But as it turns out for Callum and Ryan – Thug Book Club hosts and part-time book fans – they manage to do a bit of both, as they tackle Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning. And after waxing lyrical on Harry Potter and Roald Dahl in previous episodes, this is unknown territory for them. How will they interpret Lemony Snicket's demographically fashioned writing style? Or the literary name dropping on page after page? Or the underlying but very obvious (and therefore troubling) nods to some very dodgy things indeed? One thing is for sure though: this is a behemoth of recent pop culture. So enjoy the nonsensical hot takes and lose yourself in Snicket's bizarre universe. Spoilers and swearing as usual.
