Since it's Christmas and it's been a while since we could all enjoy regular live shows, Hannah, Mick and Jen have each chosen a favourite gigcast from, dare we say, better times, and they're all corkers. Yes, you did read the title correctly, and yes, we did, at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018, gather together on stage Luisa Omielan, Janeane Garofalo and SU POLLARD, alongside the boss, Sarah Millican. What follows in this podcast is absolute carnage, of the best possible kind, as Su reveals the contents of her tiny suitcase, and our esteemed panel chat tit-covering trousers, bums, and Cher, among other things.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/standardissuespodcast. It's been a long time coming, but the Drunk Women finally made it back to Manchester for another fantastic live show at The Salford Lowry! The crowd obviously missed Taylor, Catie, and Hannah as much as our drunk detectives missed them, and bringing her own brand of cheer was this week's wonderful guest, comedian Luisa Omelian!Luisa started things off with a crime in which several suspects are up for discussion - but is the real crime the cost of a beef fillet? As the gang hasn't seen their Manchester friends in a while, it seemed only right that this week's crime should have something of a local flavor... although it's probably not something that great city should only be known for! And to finish things off, this week's listener crime is brought to us by not one, but TWO members of the audience - it's a doubleheader ladies and gentlemen! Join Taylor, Hannah and Catie on their Patreon page, for the chance to watch along to remote records, extra content, shout outs and much more! patreon.com/drunkwomensolvingcrime See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Life's Purpose is to Support One Another Luisa Omielan is a stand-up comedian, actress, and writer that kicked off her career at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh. Omielan points out how it's no longer about climbing to the top, it's about how we support one another. She attributes a great portion of success to the relationship with her audience, “They're the ones that have helped me, crowdfunded me several times, supported me and come to my live shows.” Her growth-mindset has allowed her to appreciate the learning process of both wins and losses. Additionally, Omielan runs a charity in honour of her mother focused on providing hospice patients and family with special comfort items. My Key Takeaways Luisa's drive for what she does comes ultimately from one place, connection. The connection with others and what's important to her. This is coupled with a determination and drive for achievement. Luisa is one of those people who captures you through her openness and ability to share. She talked about three main areas of her focus during our conversation of which I'm excited to share with you through our interview and briefly here. Firstly, the material that pins everything together comes from a deep honesty with herself. She's spent much time reflecting on what brings her joy and with retrospect, what has caused her grief and sadness. It's wonderful to interview someone who talks with so much openness, displaying such a sense of humility with lack of judgment. This is a valuable piece and is probably one of the quickest ways to invite others to join your train. The second being hard work and determination. Using the knocks as a process of elimination as to ultimately what to use going forward that feeds both yourself and others. Finally, creativity and flexibility. Use what's available to you whilst creating and seeking what isn't. I found this to be such a prevalent attribute of Luisa's. Something Luisa was keen to talk about was taking what your good at, enjoy and have a true passion for and monetising it for the benefit of not only yourself but others. This is a heartwarming interview that takes out the fluffy and instead replaces it with courage, something we all need and rarely fails us when we allow it to show itself from within. *Let's stay connected* Speak with Craig about Magnifying Your Impact https://www.craiggoldblatt.com/work-with-me/ https://go.craiggoldblatt.com/attract-ideal-donors YouTube: www.craiggoldblatt.com/Magnify_Your_Impact_TV *Check-Out Helena Shop Hospice* www.helenashospicefoundation.org

In this gigcast, we got Hannah Dunleavy, Sarah Millican, Luisa Omielan, Janeane Garofalo and Su Pollard onstage to see what would happen. Crikey. There’s tit-covering trousers, a dearth of condoms, a blast of Madonna and a frankly hilarious bum story. We recorded this gigcast back in August in Edinburgh at The Stand Comedy Club as part of our Edinburgh Fringe run. It was even more deliciously bonkers than we expected. And we’re the people who decided to get Su Pollard and Janeane Garofalo in the same room. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Luisa Omielan is a comedian based in London. In 2012 Omielan performed her debut stand up solo show, What Would Beyoncé Do?! as part of the free fringe at the Edinburgh Festival. The show has since had seven sell out runs at London's Soho Theatre, it then continued to have a week run in the London West End at the Leicester Square Theatre. A 4-minute clip where Omielan discuses the ‘Thigh Gap’ went viral and has since amassed over 35 million views on Facebook. Her follow up show Am I Right Ladies?! has had a UK tour, received critical acclaim and five star reviews. What Would Beyonce Do?! by Luisa Omielan is published today by Century, priced £14.99. We talk about why the arts need more funding, the reality of trying to "make it" in the online world and why comedy can save lives. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Kate Copstick (or Copstick as she prefers to be known) is the head comedy reviewer at the Scotsman Newspaper during the Edinburgh Fringe. She's been a reviewer for 20 years and has judged several comedy awards. Outside of reviewing she co-runs the The Grouchy Club podcast with daily comedy blogger John Flemming and writes for the Erotic Review (a magazine she purchased over a decade ago). Most of her days are spent in her charity shop (Ma Ma Biashara) in Sheppards Bush and she talks about how the work she does in Kenya informs her work as a writer. She's infinitely interesting and provided such a unique insight into the business from someone who has watch it change from the "industry" side for over 2 decades. We talked about - Her name. Common Fringe mistakes (titles / desc / image) How to contact her (the right way / how / when) How the Scotsman Newspaper operates & how many reviews they publish each year. Why she loves Luisa Omielan and would work as her doorman to keep her on the Free Fringe Why she loves Dapper Laughs and thinks he was bullied - Is TV just a boys club? And her thoughts on why women aren’t as good on panel shows. Comedian’s sense of entitlement for audience and achievements. Her thoughts on the comedy “thought police” censoring comedians. The web TV show we’ll be working on (hopefully post-Edinburgh) Her thoughts on Andrew Lawrence and the lack of intelligent commentary / responses to his remarks. Why she doesn’t review Freestival shows (and what her rules are for the shows she will go and review). Are there any agendas / politics behind the awards at Edinburgh? How her charity work has helped inform her reviewing AND MORE. In this episode I interviewed comedian, improvisor and MC Luisa Omielan. Her debut solo hour was called What Would Beyonce Do? She took it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 with no buzz, no press coverage, no industry help and no PR... The show became the sleeper hit of the Fringe and has launched her career as a stand up. She currently sits below the line of "famous" but has sold out 7 runs at the Soho Theatre. We talked about - How to generate your own word of mouth and the value of that in Edinburgh. The role social media played and continues to play in her audience building. Her advice to people taking their first show to the Fringe. Fame vs having your own audience. The behind-the-scenes story of how she went from having no industry interest, to having an agent, a PR team and a sell out run in London. We covered the pros and cons of having industry help vs doing it yourself and more! If you're a comedian who wants to know what goes on behind the curtain of really good stand up shows to make them get the recognition they deserve or you're an audience member interested in the hard work that you don't normally get to see from a comedian going from "unknown" to "having their own audience" this podcast is for you. Luisa Omielan has established herself as a comic force to be reckoned with, by-passing the usual club/progression route, and cultivating an audience all her own.
