A clever, funny, existential play about philosophy and childbirth – with a touch of dubstep, karate, and slagging Socrates off. An overnight smash-hit success in Norway with an ever-growing cult following and Finalist for the Hedda Award 2023 as Best Theatre Play, award-winning Det Andre Teatret brings their hilarious and existential theatre show Good Luck, Cathrine Frost! to the Festival Fringe 2024 to talk philosophy, birth, and public health.  Did you know Socrates was pregnant? Yep - all the time. He gave birth to the immortal, pure, and civilised: ideas! Imagine that. All Cathrine Frost did was grow and give birth to an ACTUAL screaming, human, ugly baby… and then decided to write a comedy theatre show about it, discovering a galaxy of secrets in the process. No notes, huh Socrates? Cathrine Frost Andersen is an actor, improviser, and nurse. As an early member of the ensemble at Det Andre Teatret, which she helped start in 2011, she plays in a number of different improvised performances throughout the year, both on the theatre's own stage in Oslo and out on tour. Cathrine is part of Det Andre Teatret's longest-living improv group Improtent and she has a long acting career behind her.  She has, among other things, been involved in the theatre production Vildanden at the festivals in Bergen with Vegard Winge directing, and a residence in Kautokeino at the Sami National Theater Beaivvás. She has participated in various theatre festivals at home and abroad, and is also on the TV screen now and then. In autumn 2022, she debuted with her first solo performance Good Luck, Cathrine Frost!. The show was a finalist to the prestigious Hedda award 2023 as Best Theatre Play. Introduction Hosts: MrX Dave Morriss We recorded this on Sunday September 3rd 2023. We met in person again, and as before first visited the pub called The Steading where we had lunch. Then we adjourned to Dave's car in the car park, and recorded a chat. The name "Steading" is another (Scots?) version of "Farmstead", and means the same. It's also an anagram of "Sedating"1, so ... Topics discussed Vaccines: Dave has an appointment for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. The new Omicron variant BA.2.86 has prompted another booster for some people. Discussion of Smallpox vaccination MrX has an appointment for an influenza vaccine Glasgow: MrX and MrsX recently stayed in Glasgow for a holiday Point A Hotel - boutique hotel Jungle Rumble - indoor golf with UV lighting! Wikipedia: Glasgow Subway Edinburgh: Dave took a trip on the recently extended Edinburgh tram There is only one route, from the airport to Leith (port). Older residents get free access. MrX and MrsX recently walked from the centre of Edinburgh along the Water of Leith to the area where the tram terminus is at Newhaven. Email: Dave is using version Thunderbird 115.1.1 which is a rewrite of the original series where the API has now changed a lot. Long-used add-ons now no longer work: A favourite was Mailbox Alert which triggered sound alerts (or others) then mail arrived in a folder - so this could be after filtering. This was much more useful than the traditional "You have mail" type alerts. Discussion of tags: MrX mentions tags, meaning bits of text that can be attached to messages and used to classify them and to search for them. In Gmail there are labels which can do this and these can be used to group messages regardless of folders Thunderbird also has this concept which it calls tags. It comes with pre-defined tags such as Important and To Do, but more tags can be added. Any message can be given one or more tags. The filtering system can add tags as a message is processed. Searches can be performed on tags also. Dave is an enthusiast of nested folders with filters to classify messages. MrX is keen on using tags for the same purpose. Dave mentioned Thunderbird's saved search feature (which he wrongly called virtual mailboxes) which can collect messages according to many criteria, including tags. Some discussion about mail message storage strategies: file per message, mbox format, etc. Ticks: MrX's dog has brought some ticks back from recent walks. Scotland seems to be a bit worse off for ticks in recent years. Hikers need to protect against them and to perform checks that they are not on clothes. Wearing long socks or gaiters over long trousers can help. Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection that can be passed by ticks. This Week in Parasitism recently talked about an unpleasant disease caught from ticks, Babesiosis (not bacterial as Dave thought, but caused by a protozoan). This was in the USA; the disease doesn't seem to be in the UK at the moment. Removal of ticks needs a tool or a fine pair of tweezers. Audacity: Ahuka did a recent show (hpr3927 :: Audacity Update 20230702) on some problems he'd encountered. Video on YouTube: What Ever Happened to Audacity? Audacity-like tool in the browser: Wavacity Edinburgh Festival and Festival Fringe: MrX attended a show by Michael Shafar, the comedian Dave hasn't been to much at the Festival/Fringe in recent years. He saw the Doug Anthony All Stars when they were active many years ago, and found them funny but intimidating! HPR changes: Mentioned on the recent HPR Community News Problem reports can be sent by email to admin at HPR, as messages to @hpr@botsin.space on Mastodon, and to the #hpr:matrix.org channel on Matrix. Watching and listening: MrX has been watching the YouTube channel Little Chinese Everywhere, recommended in the last of these chats. MrX has also been listening to the BBC radio show Computing Britain. It consists of 12 15-minute episodes, from 2015, and is available as a podcast. YouTube recommendations: Dave: Not Just Bikes: A channel about cycling and city design. The channel owner is Canadian but has moved to Amsterdam for a better life for himself and his family. He highlights the differences between North American city design and the design of many European cities. Example video: Even Small Towns are Great Here (5 Years in the Netherlands) BicycleDutch: Another channel about cycling in the Netherlands. This channel host, Mark Wagenbuur, is Dutch and does videos about cycle routes, and their development. Lots of videos made as he cycles a route. He is based in 's-Hertogenbosch (map) and cycles in the region and to and from Utrecht. Is self-compassion a trait or a state of being? This edition is inspired by findings that suggest stronger self-compassion is associated with reduced impact of chronic pain. Self-compassion, in this sense, is the ability to respond to pain and difficulties with kindness and openness rather than criticism. In this episode we ask our artistic contributors, and ourselves, how to step towards achieving self-compassion and the importance of movement in looking after our bodies.  This edition of Airing Pain was made possible by the invaluable contributions of our participating artists who showcased their works at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and those in the academic field. We learn the motives behind using dance as a way of supporting those in pain, but also expressing and communicating pain to audiences. Contributors: Dr Sarah Hopfinger, Artist and Researcher (Edinburgh Fringe: “Pain and I”) Victoria Abbott-Fleming MBE, Founder of the Burning Nights CRPS Dr Emma Meehan, Associate Professor, Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University Tali Foxworthy Bowers, Choreographer and Movement Director (Edinburgh Fringe: “Monoslogue”) Jenna Gillett, PhD Student, Department of Psychology University of Warwick The music used at the beginning of this edition was an original composition for Pain & I by Alicia Jane Turner. In this episode of That Weekend Feeling , Daron Mann catches up with East London's renowned artist Kerry Hiles on her musical journey. Having performed at this year's National Arts festival in Makhanda, Hiles is part of an established line up set to hit the stage in next month's Edinburg Festival Fringe in Scotland. Her show, A Star is Born — the Rise and Fall of Judy Garland, premiered at the Umtiza Festival in 2019 and won two Ovation Awards at the National Arts Festival in 2019 and 2020. In this segment, Hiles tells Daron about her evolvement post Covid-19 and the feedback she's received from her fans. Having embodied Winehouse's impressive voice in her tribute show Amy Winehouse: The Diva and Her Demons, Hiles tells Daron that the Covid-19 pandemic has had an effect on the music industry. “ I'm finding that people don't want to spend money as regularly on just entertainment, they actually want an experience something that is tangible for that hour,” she said. Known for transforming the stories of iconic women in her previous musical productions, she received an award from Standard Bank for her shows at the National Arts Festival. “ It is such an honour to be noticed with the cream of the crop. The works that are there in the festival blow my mind every year,” said Hiles. Catch all and more in this segment.

Life's Purpose is to Support One Another Luisa Omielan is a stand-up comedian, actress, and writer that kicked off her career at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh. Omielan points out how it's no longer about climbing to the top, it's about how we support one another. She attributes a great portion of success to the relationship with her audience, “They're the ones that have helped me, crowdfunded me several times, supported me and come to my live shows.” Her growth-mindset has allowed her to appreciate the learning process of both wins and losses. Additionally, Omielan runs a charity in honour of her mother focused on providing hospice patients and family with special comfort items.  My Key Takeaways Luisa's drive for what she does comes ultimately from one place, connection. The connection with others and what's important to her. This is coupled with a determination and drive for achievement. Luisa is one of those people who captures you through her openness and ability to share. She talked about three main areas of her focus during our conversation of which I'm excited to share with you through our interview and briefly here. Firstly, the material that pins everything together comes from a deep honesty with herself. She's spent much time reflecting on what brings her joy and with retrospect, what has caused her grief and sadness. It's wonderful to interview someone who talks with so much openness, displaying such a sense of humility with lack of judgment. This is a valuable piece and is probably one of the quickest ways to invite others to join your train.  The second being hard work and determination. Using the knocks as a process of elimination as to ultimately what to use going forward that feeds both yourself and others.  Finally, creativity and flexibility. Use what's available to you whilst creating and seeking what isn't. I found this to be such a prevalent attribute of Luisa's. Something Luisa was keen to talk about was taking what your good at, enjoy and have a true passion for and monetising it for the benefit of not only yourself but others.  This is a heartwarming interview that takes out the fluffy and instead replaces it with courage, something we all need and rarely fails us when we allow it to show itself from within. *Let's stay connected* Speak with Craig about Magnifying Your Impact https://www.craiggoldblatt.com/work-with-me/ https://go.craiggoldblatt.com/attract-ideal-donors YouTube: www.craiggoldblatt.com/Magnify_Your_Impact_TV   *Check-Out Helena Shop Hospice* www.helenashospicefoundation.org

Less detrimental to performance than alcohol for sure."He said on today's show: "I won't name names because obviously, I'm not going to throw anyone else under the bus. But I grew up I Nelson. I smoked weed for the first time when I was 14/15."I think it's really unfortunate and there is a degree of hypocrisy that athletes can drink as much as they want ... They can go out on these huge benders, make a fool of themselves, make a fool of their country but if they want to consume something like cannabis, what does an athlete have to do to be able to be given the individual liberty to choose what they put in their body?Paralympic blade runner Liam Malone. Photo / Photosport"And there is plenty of New Zealand athletes and plenty of American athletes in particular who I trained with over in the US when I would go over there and train… I mean it's different there because it's legal."He said there had been heavy drinking after the Festival Fringe."It's the opposite of being an athlete. My body basically feels like it's going to shut down. I'm so glad I got to talk to you because it means I got to escape all the other comics who are almost like rockstars."Boy do they drink.
