Don’s got shaving cream in the mirror, Megan’s got a mop and a plan, and Lane Pryce is one wallet away from going full American Psycho. It’s A Little Kiss Part 2! And on this episode of Mad Men Men, Jon Negroni, Will Ashton, and Mike Overhulse are breaking down the second half of Mad Men’s bold, chaotic, and deeply handsy Season 5 premiere. This episode also covers the real-world 1960s context behind the show’s uneasy depiction of civil rights “progress.” Plus some surprising behind-the-scenes trivia, including how production on this episode had to jump around thanks to January Jones’s real-life pregnancy. And yes, we finally address that Reddit theory about Masters of Sex. In case you’re new here, Mad Men Men recaps Mad Men through the perspectives of three different types of viewers: a first-timer, a first-time rewatcher, and someone who thought the best way to deal with their feelings about Don Draper was to start a podcast. EXTRA CREDITS Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. Matthew Weiner directed “A Little Kiss (Part 2)” and Jennifer Getzinger wrote the script. The show stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Robert Morse, and many more. It’s season five, baby! And we’re back with A Little Kiss Part 1, the two-part premiere that gave us a Zubi Zubi Zoom into Don Draper’s new life. And all the weird vibes that come with it. On this episode of Mad Men Men, Jon Negroni, Will Ashton, and Mike Overhulse reunite to talk about Megan’s infamous birthday serenade, why Pete Campbell continues to be the show’s most interesting character, and what Joan’s mom and a certain baby’s butt have in common. Oh, and the introduction of the most legendary character in the entire series...that's right, BOBBY 5. We dive into the real-life inspiration behind the shocking protest scene, AMC’s behind-the-scenes budget drama, and how this premiere marks a turning point in the show’s tone, aesthetic, and yes, hairlines. Also: the debut of Mike’s new microphone. It’s a whole event. In case this is your first time tuning in, Mad Men Men recaps Mad Men through the lens of three different viewers: a first-timer, a rewatcher, and someone who watches the show instead of forming healthy adult friendships. You know who you are. So whether you’re Team Peggy, Team Megan, or just here for Bert Cooper’s party game energy, pour a stiff drink and join us. We may not be ready for part two, but at least we showed up with a gift. Extra Credits: Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. Why would you deny yourself a new episode of Mad Men Men? That's right, we're back this week to discuss some problematic nomads with cool names (and accents). We discuss Episode 11 of Season 2 of Mad Men, titled "The Jet Set," which has more than one meaning as it happens. This is one of the more controversial episodes of Mad Men, where some fans absolutely love it while others find it confounding. Where do we stand? Oops, never mind we just fell into the pool due to heat sickness. Also in this episode, Pete Dykeman Campbell finds some oranges. Roger makes an indecent proposal. Duck makes some moves on his sobriety. Peggy makes some moves too, but on the wrong boy. And is that Dick Whitman at the end of this episode? In case this is your first time digging into Mad Men Men, our humble little baby podcast recaps Mad Men from the perspective of someone who hasn't really watched the show, someone who went through it once a long time ago, and a superfan who watches excessively it instead of having a functional social life. This week we're gawking at another episode of Mad Men that we found in Mike's office. Don't worry, we remembered to take our shoes off before breaking in. That's right, it's time for another episode of the Mad Men Men podcast, which is beautiful in every way, except we can't make TV shows. We of course recap Episode 7 of Season 2 of Mad Men, titled “The Gold Violin.” Sal is making some spaghetti, and Kitty might be there, too. Ken strikes out with Jane, but it's not over yet. Jimmy finally makes his move. And Don should be careful not to get too used to that new car smell. New year, new girl. That's right, the holidays are over, so it's time we advertise our return from the beach with yet another episode of Mad Men Men. Or is it Mad Men Men Men because there's three of us? Anyway, this week we're drinking in Episode 5 of Season 2 of Mad Men, known by some as "The New Girl." Don finally meets the one and only Tilden Katz. Joan has some new bling to show off. Pete's memories of Pearl Harbor could be the ticket to him having kids. And is Peggy ever going to pay me back my $110? We can relate, since sometimes it takes us three weeks to record just one episode of Mad Men Men. That's right, this week we're covering Episode 4 of Season 2 of Mad Men, titled "Three Sundays." And we're having quite the crisis of faith as a result. The Drapers have some daddy issues to sort out. Peggy's Catholic guilt takes center stage, and so does Colin Hanks as Mad Men's prototypical Hot Priest. And Sally Draper, is that a whiskey glass in your hand? In case this is your first time digging into Mad Men Men, our podcast recaps Mad Men from the perspective of someone who hasn't really watched the show, someone who went through it once a long time ago, and a superfan who watches excessively it instead of having a functional social life. We did it. We watched a full season of Mad Men. It was extremely easy (we just pressed play on a TV show 13 times). But in other ways it was difficult. We had to put our hands up to the wall and say, "We're here...to podcast." So this week on Mad Men Men, we discuss "The Wheel," the 13th episode of Season 1. Pete Campbell has the opposite of baby fever. But don't tell that to Peggy Olson. Don finds a time machine and why is Betty scheduling so many therapy sessions this week? Today's guest, Roberta Lipp, is the cohost and producer of the widely successful "They Coined It, A Mad Men" podcast. Roberta has always been passionate about creating content and talking about the things she loves. After dropping so many ideas, she began writing the blog on the famous American television show Mad Men; it became a widely successful blog about the show at that time. Her journey doesn't end there. After a successful blog, she evolved it into a podcast, which has become equally successful. They spoke to the actors and creators of the show. They had fans involved. They got an opportunity to go on the show set and even got invited to do a book tour after co-authoring a book about Mad Men. When Roberta started her journey, she didn't have any fancy plans. She just had a strong why; she knew what she wanted to discuss and create. It all began when she would watch an episode, call her sister and then re-watch the VHS of the same episode and call her sister, and the cycle continued. She revealed that they don't make significant revenue from the podcast, but they enjoy the process and all opportunities it comes along with. She has shared so much wisdom from her journey. We discuss how to structure a podcast episode carefully, and she is very particular about it. We talk about engagement strategies to grow your audience. We discuss whether Patreon is extra stress on your podcast and how passion is a content creator's superpower. There are so many stories and ideas in this episode, I am sure you will love it. GUEST BIO Roberta Lipp (she/her) is the co-host and producer of "They Coined It, a Mad Men Podcast." She has written extensively about the show as the founder of "Basket of Kisses," the premier Mad Men blog, and contributor to the book "Mad Men Carousel" by film/tv critic Matt Zoller Seitz. As a feminist and defender of democratic norms, and with a background in copywriting, marketing, radio, and entertainment, podcasting was an obvious next step. Roberta is passionate about being on the mic and podcast editing. You got fingers in your ears? We're talking about Mad Men! It has episodes on the side and a podcast in the middle. This week, we set our sights on ‘Red in the Face,' the seventh episode of Season 1. We like to think of podcasting as the backbone of America. Especially when it comes to Mad Men! In "New Amsterdam," we follow way more of Pete (Dykeman?) Campbell's life than usual, as he conflicts with Don over a pitch with Bethlehem Steel. And at home, Betty gets some alone time with Glen Bishop, and it goes about as well as no one expected. Who is Don Draper...at home? In "Marriage of Figaro," we find the first real experimentation of Mad Men's formula, specifically as it relates to two halves of Don's life at constant conflict with one another. Pete Campbell returns from his honeymoon, Peggy picks up a new book, and Don tries to spark something with Rachel. But that's just Part 1 of an episode that says something a little deeper about love, marriage, and the American family. Mad Men was created by Matthew Weiner and aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. Welcome to a bonus episode of Heroes of Noise. This is our longest Patreon episode yet. It may actually be our longest episode period. Definitely top 3. So what you're about to listen to is our spoiler-filled coverage and review of Zack Snyder's Justice League. We're joined by Melissa Sloter from the Wild Pretty Things podcast and Still Great, Bob?: A Mad Men Podcast, Amanda Albers and Quinton Taylor Roberts from The Reel Zodiac podcast, and friend of the show Kevin Mcknight. There is actually a video that goes with it but that will come later. Much like Justice League there are two versions of this. One is of the entire video conversation. The thing is, there was a ton of crosstalk due to audio/video lag and consequently some of what was said by certain individuals may be hard to hear. But it is the entire conversation and is worth watching just to see Melissa's mind get blown on numerous occasions as she dives head first into the DCEU. Getting back to the crosstalk, I couldn't let all these wonderful people not get their points out just because I was too lazy to correct it. That's the good thing about recording with multiple tracks. They come in super handy if you want to put in some work. I went in and cleaned it up a bunch so the people could be heard as they were meant to be heard. So in a way, I guess you can consider this "The Ramirez Cut". I'm currently in talks with HBO Max but more on that later. This episode is LONGER than the Snyder Cut. Think about that for a second. Thing is we probably could've kept talking for hours. No joke. We had such a great time with our guests and hope to have them back very soon. Thanks to everyone that joined us. And now, without further ado, please enjoy Patreon Episode 24 - Zack Snyder's Justice League (aka The Ramirez Cut). 13. Rioja Barriton Reserva 2014.
Man sollte sich Gedanken machen, was man sagt, bevor man redet. Besonders, wenn man einen Podcast aufnimmt. Viele Grüße an Jörg! #pandg Was ist für Julian ein Börsenwert? Was ist für Andreas zukunftsfähig? Serie vs. Film vs. Griechische Tragödie: 3 oder 5 Akte? Und übrigens: die griechische Tragödie (von altgriechisch τράγος tragos „Bock“ und ᾠδή ōdē „Gesang“) entstand im Rahmen der offiziellen Feierlichkeiten in Athen zu Ehren des Weingottes Dionysos. Prost!
