We live in an era where misinformation spreads faster than ever—shaping our beliefs, fueling our anxieties, and making it nearly impossible to separate fact from fiction. Why are our brains so susceptible to false narratives even when we know better? How do we resist falling for this stuff? And also, where is the line separating misinformation from harmless ~lore~ anyway? In this special episode, host Amanda Montell (@amanda_montell) reads an exclusive excerpt from her new book, The Age of Magical Overthinking, diving into the psychology behind misinformation, revealing some mistakes of her own, and exploring the linguistic tricks that make debunking a falsehood so much harder than believing it in the first place. Overthinker Corrections: From our episode on toxins, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has faced controversy over the years, with critics arguing that it overstates chemical risks, relies on flawed methodologies, and promotes an organic marketing agenda. Despite these concerns, EWG defends its work as being rooted in a mission to protect public health and empower consumers to make safer choices. For those seeking alternative resources to the EWG, consider exploring Consumer Reports for independent product testing and safety insights, and Made Safe for certified non-toxic product recommendations. Another inspiring conversation on the Zero to 5000 Podcast today. We were joined by Brian Nickerson, the Co-founder of MagicLinks. We discussed: - Continuously learning new things each day to improve your business. - How a life crisis can lead to necessary changes. - Clearing your mind of negative thoughts before showing up to work Thanks for Listening. Be sure to join our monthly email. One life-changing email to help you with your mindset, your methods, and your mission each month.
Brian Nickerson's story captivated me. He began his career playing on the Los Angeles Dodgers. 6 knee surgeries and 1 Harvard Business School degree later, he found himself as an unlikely entrepreneur. And started MagicLinks. Based in LA, MagicLinks is the social commerce provider for social media influencers. They connect moments of inspiration to action. Example: viewers can buy the sweater they see the influencer wearing. Think of it as a marketplace that connects brands & influencers across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Clearly, he's onto something big. MagicLinks is ranked amongst the Inc5000 list of America's fastest-growing companies. Brian has some atypical leadership approaches that I found fascinating, (including how he begins every staff meeting.) In this 20-minute conversation, Brian reveals how he's putting a Rockstar in every seat of the company.
Roblox goes public, Facebook Gaming sets the rules to win, Monetizing Creators, Magiclinks is the Creator businesses you should know about.
In this season one finale, MagicLinks CEO, Brian Nickerson, shares how walking the pathless path and taking responsibility for your impact can not only be ways to live, but ways to grow a business. He also discusses the origins of this show, and the importance of honoring the sacred. Join us in an extra special episode that is both behind-the-scenes, and a call for a new way forward.

MagicLinks shares our office building in Venice with Budman Studio, and artist Dodd Holsapple took up a twelve-day residency there this fall. A successful sculptor in the 1990s, Dodd intentionally paused and has reoriented his career around painting. We have been fortunate enough to watch his reemergence into the art scene with his triptych of layered, interwoven paint on custom canvases for a series speaking to ocean conservancy and environmental peril. The interview was in person (though socially distanced) and includes room noise, traffic, and the chatter of others in the background at times. In a year when art and studio space feels so out of reach for most everyone, and when normal is indeed far away, we hope this special episode helps bring a sense of connection. Visit www.doddholsapple.com to see more of Dodd's remarkable work.
