Internet Business Mastery | Escape the 9-to-5. Make More Money. Start an Freedom Business, Now!

Not long ago I flew into San Francisco to mastermind with some heavy hitters. The group consisted of John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire, Greg Hickman from Mobile Mixed, And Rick Mulready from the Art of Paid Traffic (and our Facebook Ads guru) We rented a beautiful, modern, SanFran house next to some famous park (whose name I can't remember for the life of me) for a few days and got right to masterminding. Each person would get a turn presenting a problem we were having in our businesses and everyone else would talk about all the different solutions they could think up to fix the problem. Then, each person would share tips, secret resources, and big breakthroughs so we could all benefit from them. This went on all of the first day and then the evening was time to 'party' mastermind with a bunch of internet business people who live in San Francisco. There are a lot... The late, great Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend and Andrew Warner of Mixergy and a handful of other well-known influencers joined us at a crazy bar/mini-golf/burger joint. The second day was filled with insights and big breakthroughs, and we had a special guest in the afternoon. He lived only a few blocks from our secret mastermind lair. I didn't know Tim Ferriss was supposed to be joining us, but there was a knock at the door and he strolled in. Tims the author of Tools of titans and all the 4-hour books, like four our chef and four our body. I hadn't seen Tim in person since I first met him back in 2007 when he asked to be on my podcast to pitch a little ol' book called, The Four Hour Work Week. (I said no cause we already had a productivity guy, the book became huge, and of course I changed my mind. He did our show a couple months later from his bathroom while he was having a large birthday party at his house, but that's another story...) We spent the entire afternoon getting in-depth and personal with Tim, his business, and some of the investment opportunities he was currently looking into. This continued on throughout the night and into the next morning as Tim showed us around the thriving food and bar scene. The specifics of what is said in a mastermind is confidential and if you share them with others you'll never be invited again, but I can tell you one mindset shift I had from what Tim shared. He was playing at such a high level and had so many possibilities when it came to business that he had a very specific rule when it came to analyzing new ventures. Keep in mind, Tim is very public about being one of the first round of investors in Uber, so he is playing a different level than the rest of us. His rule was that the new venture had to make at least 10 million dollars a year for him to take the time to consider it. No joke, he had so many offers at that level, he wouldn't consider anything not in that realm. I was amazed to hear that, to say the least. What it made me do is shift my mindset to 10x everything I was considering. I had a goal to help 10,000 entrepreneurs get their freedom business started, which I hit, and I decided to 10x that to 100,000! I hadn't decided to do the Freedom Club yet, but it came from my commitment to take all my goals to 10x. That's what masterminds can do for you. Open your mind. Get fantastic advice. Know you're not alone. Help you solve a problem by having other like minds solve it with you. Mastermind groups are awesome. The Freedom Club wouldn't exist if I hadn't been pushed in my mastermind. They are so important I added a Mastermind Group to the Freedom Club membership! So, join us and mastermind with other like-minded, smart entrepreneurs right now: http://www.FreedomClubVIP.com I can’t wait to see you on the inside!

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 104, originally published in October 2013. Greg Hickman is the Creator/Host of Mobile Mixed, a Mobile Marketing Consultant focused on retail. Hickman is also the co-founder of Thumbfound, a boutique, independent mobile marketing agency. Greg started off as a self-professed "agency guy," and had the opportunity to work on brands like Pepsi, Lipton, and Walmart. In this line of work, he created and managed digital, in-store and grassroots marketing campaigns. In 2005, Greg moved on from the larger agency to a smaller operation, but still worked with major brands, including AT&T, EA Games, Sony Pictures, The New York Jets, Florida Marlins, Winterfresh and Axe. Greg created mobile marketing campaigns for these giants, bringing them into a new space. Over the last 3 years, Greg has spent his time and focused his passion towards developing, implementing and managing mobile marketing programs for a media network of 300 shopping centers across the country. It's an understatement to say that the mobile marketing space for retail is a hot commodity right now. According to Hickman, "Implementing the right mobile strategies can have huge impacts on your business. Whether it's driving people to your establishment, generating increased sales online or improving retention I can help. I've managed initiatives that cover Mobile Web, Smartphone apps, SMS, QR Codes, Location based services, mobile SEO etc." Mobile marketing for businesses big and small in the retail space is not going anywhere any time soon. That's what makes Greg so passionate about his strategy through Mobile Mixed. Greg wants to help you create integrated mobile marketing strategies by talking with the best and most successful mobile marketers out there. Website: www.System.ly

How far would you be willing to go to start your online business? Would you work extra hard to pay off thousands of dollars of debt and create a runway for yourself? Would you put yourself out there, hit a bunch of events and start building relationships with people who are where you want to be? Would you sell...your house? I know. It sounds extreme. Yet that is exactly what our buddy Greg Hickman did in order to build his business and gain serious momentum in only a few short months. Best of all, he took all of his skills from working in mobile marketing for big companies and transformed them into a lucrative service-based business helping small businesses become more mobile friendly. On this episode of Rhodes to Success, I interview Greg Hickman who is an entrepreneur, mobile marketing consultant, and creator of the Mobile Mixed podcast. If you want to know how to build your email list, increase webinar conversion, and drive sales with text messaging then this is an absolute must listen!   Main Questions Asked: -       Why is SMS marketing so powerful for podcasters? -       How does SMS marketing work, and how do you get people to opt in? -       What is your take on high downloads versus people who listen to every episode? -       What should lead magnets be? -       What are examples that will get people to opt in? -       Talk about your video training series and all the different ways you are putting out content. -       What is your business relationships philosophy?   Key Lessons Learned: -       If you are a podcaster and don't blog, there is little reason for listeners to visit your site. -       Connect with listeners where they are (on their mobile device). -       Podcasts are great for authority, getting yourself on other shows, and creating relationships with people, but blog posts, such as tutorials, are what gets shared. -       It is much more difficult to create a viral podcast episode, as sharing is not as easy as blog content.   Two Types of Shows: -       1) Passive listeners - E.g 20,000 passive listeners who are not going to show notes or opting in -       2) Active listeners – E.g 500 active listeners who download every episode and offer a high conversion rate   SMS Marketing: -       65% of podcasts are listened to on a smart phone. -       If you can't get people to your show notes, then the odds of getting someone on your email list is low. -       Listening to a podcast is something people do while they are doing other things. -       The odds of people listening to your podcast from in front of their computer are low. -       You need a solid call to action and reason for listeners to participate, such as registering for a webinar, free content, or event registration. -       Text message marketing software is available, such as Call Loop. -       Only a few software platforms have two-way interaction that allows you to capture email addresses. -       Example – Podcaster announces “text ‘lead pages' to 38470.” The listener will receive a bounce back text “to confirm your registration, reply with your email address.” -       Once you have the email address, the listener is on your list and you can add to platforms, such as Mailchimp or Infusionsoft. -       By offering this text opt-in option, you are giving the people who want to take action the ability to join your email list no matter where they are listening. -       Look at SMS marketing as a new opportunity to capture people that might be audio-only listeners by enabling text call to action.   Downloads Versus Loyal Listeners: -       As a podcaster, you have to ask yourself “what is my goal?” -       Is the goal to get a high number of downloads in order to gain sponsorship, or is the goal to use the podcast as a lead generation tool? -       Most podcasters aren't going to make a living from sponsorship so it is best to use the podcast as a lead generation tool. -       Focus on repeat listeners and people who are going to join your list.   Lead Magnets & Content Upgrades: -       Lead Magnets - webinars and free courses work well, and is something that provides the listener a lot of value. -       Content upgrades – creating a unique piece of content that is pulled from each episode, e.g screenshots, checklist, or process flows. -       Content upgrades are something you will want to download, and is heavily promoted. This helps increase your opt-in and conversion rate.   -       Most podcasters and bloggers constantly promote the same lead magnet; however, if someone isn't interested, then they will never opt in. -       By having unique lead magnets for every piece of content, you are giving yourself an opportunity for people to opt in.   Business Relationships: -       As long as you put yourself out there, engage with people, and try to deliver value, then it will come back to you. -       Often, you may not find people in your area who are also entrepreneurs, so you may want to create opportunities to find them. -       Meeting face-to-face is important. Going to conferences and live events is a great way to engage. -       Once you create relationships with people, you need to actively stay in touch and continue to deliver value.   Subscribe to the show in iTunes or Stitcher Radio!   The music in today's episode was written by The Danger Os and produced by Nick Palmer. On today's episode of Second Half Comeback, Greg Hickman tells us how to use daily rituals and systems to make sure we get our most important shit done everyday. Greg is best known as The mobile marketing expert and for his brand Mobile Mixed. He is host of the Mobile Mixed podcast and formally of the Leaving Corporate podcast. He also blogs about his journey at greghickman.me. He is also a speaker and business coach. He was my business coach for a few months and was instrumental in helping me finally launch the Second Half Comeback podcast. We began today's interview with a quick overview of his story and background which included some mobile marketing consulting, starting a text messaging marketing company and even returning to the corporate world to work for a large national outdoor retailer while working on building Mobile Mixed on the side. Mobile Mixed is a blog, podcast and training company that teaches small businesses and entrepreneurs how to use mobile marketing to generate leads and sales. Mobile Mixed eventually led to speaking gigs, coaching and numerous other opportunities including leaving his corporate job to work on his business full time. Ironically, after Greg left the corporate world to work on his own business full time, He found it was a struggle to stay focused and consistently work on the important "stuff" in his business. Since then Greg has really become a student of productivity, workflow, and daily rituals. He is always experimenting, tweaking and learning the best systems and rituals to get the important shit done in his business and life. We spend the rest of the interview talking about Greg's workflow and systems with a specific focus on his morning ritual. Here are a few of the highlights from his current routine: Starts his morning with some light stretching, walks his wife to work and often follows with more light exercise. Lately Greg has been focusing on a reading habit. After his morning exercise and shower, he has been trying to read for 30 minutes. He then jumps into the meat and potatoes of his morning routine: He spends some time journaling on his computer using a set list of questions that he is always perfecting. then he plans his day. He has been using the "Zero Based Calendar" system. We spend some time talking about the actual nuts and bolts of system such as apps, websites and software that he uses. (See Links below). We finish by talking about the importance of shifting your mindset from entrepreneur to business owner..."How do i take this thing and turn it into a revenue producing business". Greg also warns us about falling into the trap of comparing ourselves to others and copying other successful people's workflows. He emphasizes that we should design a personal system around our own needs, strengths and weaknesses. I hope you enjoyed the interview with Greg Hickman. On the next episode of Second Half Comeback, we are going to dive into our Finish Strong Challenge. We will start by focusing on one simple "keystone" habit that is essential to executing a consistent and effective morning ritual! Now, let's remember to implement our 4th Quarter Mentality and finish 2014 strong! Let's make this the year that changed EVERYTHING! See you next time...... and remember It's never too late to be who you were meant to be!

Today’s guest is an online entrepreneur, the host of two business podcasts - Mobile Mixed, and more recently Leaving Corporate - and he’s not known for his travels. But, Greg Hickman is without a doubt in my mind, an explorer  and lifelong learner. I know this because of the nature of his podcast. Right out of college, he went on a whirlwind tour backpacking Europe for 3-months. That’s less extreme than some of the guests we have on here, but perhaps more of a reality for most people who want to make travel a bigger priority in their lives. More recently, he got back from the Philippines because his business has opened up opportunities to speak in places all over the country and world. BUT before all of this, he was a dreamer who’s always grappled with doing the right thing in his career. So I’m excited to give him the chance to speak about that, as well as how embracing uncertainty has paid off for him in a big way, and whether travel has anything to do with having that mindset in life. The Entrepreneur Unleashed with Patti Keating. Mindset and business tips for purposeful entrepreneurs

Today, we welcome to the show Greg Hickman, the creator and host of Mobile Mixed, a mobile marketing and consulting business. During his career as a marketing specialist, Greg worked with smaller agencies, as well as big brands like Pepsi and Wal-Mart. He also tried his luck with a consulting company, which eventually turned into a software business that did not see much success.  Later, he started Mobile Mixed show that evolved into a successful business. Inspiration: Coming from a mobile marketing background, Greg did not know exactly how to launch his online business. That is when he discovered blogs and shows like Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income and Internet Business Mastery that help people get started with and run their online businesses. After starting Mobile Mixed, his success grew exponentially. Challenge:  As many online entrepreneurs do, Greg struggled to find time to do interviews and to work on his business while working long hours at his daytime job. Greg had to make countless sacrifices in order to keep his business going. Even his relationship with his fiancée suffered during that time. Luckily, Greg's employer saw value in what Greg was doing with Mobile Mixed and so he was able to allow for some flexibility in his work schedule as business started picking up. Passion: Today, Greg is very excited about building up additional revenue streams through consulting and running a mobile marketing related membership community. Advice: Taking the entrepreneurial leap always comes with some risk. Each of us needs to figure out what we can do to manage that risk as best as possible. Entrepreneurs, and/or great leaders, need to find comfort in uncomfortable situations because that's where the breakthroughs happen.  When you start feeling that discomfort, push through it. It should be your beacon. Also, have faith that it is all going to work out. Remember, if someone else is doing it, great! That means it can be done. And if no one else is doing it, you can be the first. Entrepreneurs Resource: If you are running an online business, a virtual assistant will make your life and business much easier. FollowUp.cc is an amazing tool for email management, setting reminders, re-sending email and keeping your inbox clean Asana.com is a great, free project management tool for your virtual team.  You can connect a number of different web apps for free with Zapier.com.  Blogs, Books & Podcasts: Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Internet Busniess Mastery The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy Leaving Corporate Podcast How To Increase Your Blogs Reach By 2000% Looking Back:  Looking back, Greg wishes he would have taken his own advice, which is: “Don't let other people's definition of success become your definition of success.” He strongly believes that everyone should figure out how they measure their own success and stick to that measure.
