Personal stories of overcoming discrimination and establishing his worth in challenging environments weave through the narrative, showing Luis's resilience and strategic acumen. The interview takes a deeper dive when discussing his decision to move to California on a whim, taking a severance package and leaving his job without a clear plan, which he describes as a true "veer" moment.

Our audiobook teaser this week is Wicked Embrace by Olivia Boothe Narrated by Tim Paige & Kelsey Navarro I wanted one thing—to never fall in love again. But the universe had other plans. One look into Tom Wright’s olive-green eyes, and I free-fell crazy in love with the one man destined to break my heart. I know, because I’ve yet to learn my lesson. The past never dies, and mine is ready to rear its ugly head. Question is, will I be strong enough to survive the fallout? She wasn’t supposed to happen. I’d vowed to never let anyone in, but with one curve of her lips, Sara Hart bulldozed through my heart. I’m happier than I’ve ever been yet scared as hell of how much I love her. Despite my best intentions, I haven’t been one-hundred percent honest. My biggest torment still lurks within, threatening to unwind the strings holding us together. And if I lose her now, it might as well be the end of me. Narrated by Tim Paige & Erin Mallon, with a special appearance by Jeffrey Kafer Summer nights and star-crossed lovers! From USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen. Once upon a time, he gave me a summer of friendship, followed by one perfect night. We shared a lot during our short time together. But he skipped a few crucial details. I didn’t know he was a rock star. I didn’t know his real name. Neither of us knew I’d get pregnant. And I sure never expected to see him again. Five years later, his tour bus pulls up in Nest Lake, Maine. My little world is about to be shattered by loud music and the pounding of my own foolish heart.

A big pain point for small business owners is generating enough leads. What if there was a free educational resource and a tool to help do that? Bob Sparkins is the lead evangelist for Leadpages a software platform that helps generate leads by building landing pages, campaigns, and even creating text opt-ins for podcasters. It’s Bob’s job to spread the word about Leadpages. Bob is a speaker, webinar presenter, and marketing teacher. He is also the host of The Lead Generation Podcast a podcast that shares marketing wisdom and educates small business owners, coaches, and consultants. This podcast is the second incarnation of the Leadpages podcast. The first Leadpages podcast was called Conversion Cast and featured professional voice artist Tim Paige. Bob was able to convince his boss at Leadpages that they needed to restart their podcast, and he was the guy to do it. The focus of his show is educating small business owners through interviews of people who have overcome obstacles in their businesses. He is also an entrepreneur, so he thought he would be the perfect host for this show. This podcast generates leads for Leadpages, but not in the way you would think. The show is purely educational with no sales pitch. Leads are generated when interested listeners go to the podcast website to learn more. Bob is no stranger to education. He is a former high school history teacher. On this episode, he explains the evolution and purpose of his podcast, his setup, benefits of the podcast, and shares a little bit about Leadpages. Bob is the author of Take Action! Revise Later: A Simple Guide to Success in Business, and he lives in Bloomington, Minnesota with his wife and their two kids. You may have heard of Bob through his social handle Bob the Teacher. Show Notes: [04:03] The Leadpages Podcast has always been an opportunity to share marketing wisdom and knowledge with small businesses, entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants and people doing own marketing. [04:29] Leadpages was founded by Clay Collins. He hired Tim Paige to start the Leadpages podcast called Conversion Cast. They had 180 episodes over four years. [05:31] Tim left and Bob took over the podcast. They first went YouTube style for a studio podcast. This only lasted 12 episodes, and then they pursued other content marketing. [06:17] In february of this year, Bob wanted to start the podcast again. He wanted to target people who are doing their best to ramp up their digital marketing knowledge. People who are their own brand. They called their core avatar the Lead Generation. They just released episode 29 of The Lead Generation Podcast. [07:35] The podcast is promotionally adjacent to Leadpages. [08:03] Most of the guests are Leadpages clients. Some are well known like Pat Flynn and Ramon Ray and on the rise like ChihYu Smith. [10:32] They keep track of the stats and traffic generated by the podcast, and it's also an opportunity to leverage the audience. [11:22] They do use retargeting and ads. [12:33] Any room can give a great sound. [13:18] Their office was a WeWork space. The glass presents sound challenges. Now it's a room in Bob's house. The microphone is on an arm and Bob can stand. He uses a Yeti mic which is prone to pick up external noises. [16:00] The visual show took too much time and effort to pursue at the level they wanted to do it at. [16:41] Bob is responsible for championing the software and the success that the customer's have. [17:00] He also uses his microphone set up for webinars. He uses Leadpages for getting podcast guests. The thank you page includes a Google form and a booking calendar. He also uses Zoom and Calendly. [19:38] The post show followup includes an affiliate link and photos for social. [21:34] Bob pushed for restarting the podcast. He is his audiences avatar. He's familiar with what it's like to be responsible for your own revenue. [22:58] He also was part of the making of the Lead Evangelist role. He was also customer number 43. [24:02] Being flexible in the questioning makes a good podcast host. [24:59] Bob was the logical choice to be the host of the podcast. [26:22] Leadpages provides the software that small business owners can use to build their website, make campaigns and landing pages, and to easily generate leads from their podcast with opt-in text. [27:13] They try to keep things streamlined and function well with other software products. They are cloud based and super reliable. It's an easy way to get your web presence up and running and to create campaigns. [29:43] The podcast generates lead, but they aren't heavily selling in the content. [30:28] Their target audience are people who specifically need education and better tools. [33:02] Podcasts give great content that is leverageable with show notes and transcripts for search engines and education. [33:14] Pro Podcast Solutions edits the audio. Bob gets his transcripts from Rev.com, he then edits and pulls out some takeaways and headings. They have a designer create a thumbnail, and they create an audiogram. [38:29] Bob is currently reading Superfans. He recommends Influence. [41:19] Bob's parents taught him to be self-reliant and to do the work. [42:45] Bob's dad taught him to change oil, but he didn't need that because he was going to delegate. [45:23] Darrell's takeaways: Keep it simple. Bob had the skill set needed to revive and keep the podcast going, and he convinced the higher ups of this. They have a unique take on using transcripts as show notes by creating subtitles and including keywords. His parents reinforced his eagerness to delegate. Do what you do best and hire out. I saw this post from Tim Paige and I can think of so many people who will read this, and ignore it. Some people feel that the one thing keeping them from "Making it" is this really inconvenient thing called their day job. Their "side hustle" is currently bringing in $34 a month, but for some reason they think that if they only quit their job the pressure of seeing your life's savings being caught on fire will inspire you to leap into action to find a way anyway to make a living "Doing what they love." So I love this report from the front lines on how Tim actually quit his day job. Check out Tim at thevoiceoftimpaige.com or www.makemyintro.com How To Go "All In" on your Dream Job Don't quit your day job until it is costing you more money than keeping your day job. So if you turned down 40,000 worth of work because it conflicted with your 30,000 jobs, then it's time to quit your day job. This was the case for Tim. Tim also has a TREMENDOUSLY SUPPORTIVE Spouse. Tim got out of debt so that his expenses were minimal after quitting his job. He had three jobs doing anything he could to get out of debt and it took him three years. For the first three years of his side hustle, he reinvested in his business. Be open to opportunity. He didn't turn down jobs - even if he didn't want to do it. This makes him appreciate it when "dream jobs" come along. Get your mind right. When he panics, finds himself envious of others, he is not doing his best work. This hurts his business. Dave's Insights If you don't have a good support system, things can get ugly quickly. People I see who have made the leap ALL have supportive families. ALL. It's not enough to take courses, you have to leave time to put the knowledge into action. For consulting on planning, launching, and growing your podcast see www.podcastconsultant.com

You may recognize Tim's voice from the dozens of webinars he has hosted at LeadPages or from LeadPages official podcast, ConversionCast. In his short time at LeadPages, Here is a quick preview of our conversation with Tim Paige. Traffic is not hard to get. When you talk with a lot of dealers they are focused on “getting more traffic” to their website when in fact the primary focus should be converting more of the traffic you have now. It is not hard to get more traffic. You can buy it and use many channels to boost your sites unique visitors, but if they are not opting in/converting to a lead, whats the point? Tim reviews several proven strategies you can start doing on your site that will automatically increase your sites conversion rates. A coupon is the worst way to generate a lead. A coupon is a coupon. Everyone has them and in the end they provide really no value and don't solve any of your target customers problems. Whats in it for me? That is all that is on your customers mind. What your store can do that solves their problem. Tim dives into how you can use that to your advantage to generate more leads from your website. Create a lead magnet. A lead magnet is what you are going to offer your site visitors instead of coupon. Your lead magnet is resource that will help your target market solve a problem they are having. Tim breaks down what a “Lead Magnet” is and gives several examples you can use right away. Top 11 Takeaways From Podcast Movement 2014 Podcast Movement 2014 was held in Dallas, Texas August 16th & 17th. For an inaugural event, PM14 was well run and full of great information. The guys did an amazing job putting it together. Earlier this year, Dan Franks reached out to me and asked if I would present a session at PM14. I was truly honored. My session on the power of storytelling went over very well. Many people came to the stage after my session to tell me how useful they found the information. I really appreciated the feedback. I am already looking forward to Podcast Movement 2015 in Fort Worth, Texas. My notebook filled with great notes from PM14. On this episode, I want to share with you my 11 top takeaways from the event. I hope these spark a little something in your to move your podcast forward and transform your content. 1. Have a plan to make money. This came from Chris Brogan's Keynote “Podcasting As A Business Driver”. If you want to support your habit/hobby, have a plan to generate income. This could be from your product, service or other income stream. Figure out how to cover your cost at a minimum. 2. Copy = Pale Imitation = Ignored. Srinivas Rao offered this insight in his Keynote “Genuine Curiosity – The Fuel Behind The Fire”. Chris Brogan said, “No one ever won a race looking sideways.” Be brave and have the courage to be unique. Tell some great stories. 3. What is your brand personality? Who are you really and who do your clients need you to be? Kristin Thompson asked these questions during her session “Rock Your Talk & Profit Big … Beyond The Podcast”. Define your brand personality. Then, thread it through everything you do. 4. Don't use white in your logo. This was mentioned during “Top Podcasters Share Three Success Secrets For Podcasting”. It was a panel discussion with Michael Stelzner, Cliff Ravenscraft, and Chris Brogan. If you want it to stand out in iTunes store, get rid of the white. Make your logo pop. 5. Involve others. During his session “10 Ways to Take Your Podcast From Average To Amazing”, Daniel J. Lewis suggested you use interviews, conversations, and shared presentations to get others involved with your show. Empower your audience to share your content. Delegate others to help you achieve tasks. 6. #1 goal of podcast marketing is opt-in. Tim Paige mentioned this in his session “The Top 7 Ways To Grow Your Podcast And Turn Listeners Into Leads”. We've heard it many times that the money is in the list. Use your podcast to grow your list every opportunity that you get. 7. Think of your avatar in the car or excercising. What can you provide to make the experience better? This was a great piece of advice from Jaime Tardy during her Keynote “The Future Of Podcasting”. If you want to connect and engage with your audience, put yourself in their shoes. 8. Learn what the knobs do. To learn your equipment and what it does, press record and narrate your actions as you turn knobs. Hear how it sounds. This was a tip offered by Dave Jackson in his session “The Art Of Editing Audio – Finding The Diamond In The Rough”. What better way to figure out what all of those knobs do other than tinkering with it. 9. Ask your tribe questions about what they struggle with. Jessica Kupferman's session was titled “Your Commmunity Of Kindred Spirits: Why, How and When To Build One”. She offered this tidbit while helping us discover the power and connection of a community. 10. Give your guests resources to promote your show after they are on. This came during a panel discussion called “Promote Your Podcast The Right (And Unique) Way”. If you want your guests to promote your show after they appear, make it easy for them. Give them graphics, quotes or audio clips they can use to help spread the word. 11. Comfort and awesome usually do not overlap. I loved this line. It was another from Chris Brogan during his Keynote “Podcasting As A Business Driver”. Be brave. Try something new. Be unique. Have the courage to step out and tell personal stories that cannot be copied. That's when you'll get noticed. Don't be comforable. Be awesome. I'd love to help you with your podcast. It is not enough to get more traffic to your website, you need to build an audience. It’s touted a lot, and rightly so; the profitability of your online business is a direct effect of the size, and relationship you have with your email list. Want more profit? Then you better get good at building […]
Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
In this session of The Smart Agency Master Class I sit down with Tim Paige who is going to talk with us about how to increase website conversions and double your revenue. Tim is the Conversion Educator at LeadPages, where he has helped them grow their customer base to 16,000, and increase their list by another 10,000 leads. Building your list is one of your most valuable assets. For Tim and LeadPages, list building is what they've found to be the most valuable. Think of email addresses as a form of currency. People guard their email address like they guard their wallet. If someone is willing to give you their email address, that is a big deal. But if it's so valuable, why aren't agencies building their lists on their website? According to Tim, it has a lot to do with the sheer volume of misguided information out there. Right now, there's so much talk about social media that people are putting all of their focus there. Seriously, folks - don't make the same mistake I did. Start building your lists! Don't lose your website visitors at the thank you page. A lot of us just use a generic thank you page sent out by an auto-responder. “Thank you for signing up with our company. Please check your email inbox.” That's such a dead end! Statistically, people are more likely to find a needle in a haystack than your website, so why are you sending them away from your page to check their email? People always check their email, but chances are they won't come back to your site once they leave. Don't miss this opportunity to keep the conversation going. What you need to do on your thank you page to increase your conversions. Try this on your thank you page: Thank them for signing up and offer them a chance to sign up for next week's webinar Thank them for signing up and make them an offer to buy something like a site audit or discovery session. Having an auto-responder helps build trust with your leads. Tim suggests using your auto-responder to get more information. For example: someone downloads a tool from your landing page and is then directed to the thank you page (which now includes more helpful information). Then, every three days or so, the auto-responder sends an email with even more helpful information. Remember - you have to give something before asking for something. It's all about building that relationship of trust. 3 Tips to increase website conversions right now. These are Tim's tips on how to increase website conversions: Make sure you have a powerful lead magnet. You can have the best looking landing page with the most awesome opt-in form, but it doesn't mean anything if you aren't providing something of value. Create a list of the five tools to help your audience solve a problem they have. Keep it simple! Helpful, one-page tools convert well. Make sure if you're using an image that it directs the eye toward the call to action. Use an arrow to point at the opt in box or have the person's eyes looking in the direction of the button. I also suggests checking out what LeadPages can do for you. They have a 30-day money back guarantee, so it's worth a look. It has increased my site conversions from 15% to over 40%. Become a Better Owner When you know how to increase website conversions, this opens your agency to more potential client opportunities. However, without laying the ground work this could cause more issues than benefits. Through making a point to focus on areas you haven't explored yet as well as struggles you need to focus on will help to improve your business. Check out how I have all you need to get through these obstacles. I can give you advice on how to increase conversions on your website, implementing Facebook marketing as well as ways to build authority to improve your agency. If growth is your focus, I've the different phases of growth within your agency and the three questions you need to ask yourself to sell more of your digital agency services.
