Ever wondered how to land a TED talk and make your message matter? Today, I am flying solo to walk you through the process of how I hosted a TEDx event back in 2012. With a theme of The Pursuit of Passion, the one-day event focused on the fire that drives people to pursue their passions. It was about how one finds the strength to follow their heart and intuition despite rejection, lack of support, challenges, or even outright failure. In this episode, I will talk about the process of applying to get a TED Talk, the challenges I had to deal with as a head curator of a TEDx event, and the story behind how I got Scott Dinsmore as one of the speakers for my event.  Resources mentioned: TED website: https://www.ted.com/  Scott Dinsmore TEDx talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpe-LKn-4gM  Topics include: Two different ways to get on the main TED stage What is TED and what they do What is a TEDx event and what is the application process for a license How to become a TEDx speaker  How I handled and prepared for no-shows during a TEDx event How Scott Dinsmore's TEDx talk went viral on YouTube And other topics… Connect with Darius: Website: https://therealdarius.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dariusmirshahzadeh/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imthedarius/ YouTube: https://therealdarius.com/youtube Book: The Core Value Equation https://www.amazon.com/Core-Value-Equation-Framework-Limitless/dp/1544506708 Learn more about your ad choices. I have a big plan, and I am now using a strategic move to get myself to follow through: I tell you about it! I did this in order to get myself to launch this podcast and I have done it before by sharing plans in my blog Coconut Moments through the years. I haven't succeeded every time, but I am absolutely sure it improves the odds. Back in 2016 I watched this TED talk by a man called Scott Dinsmore. The name of the talk was "How to find work you love" and it completely changed the course of everything I was doing. It made me sign up to every course that Scott and his network and movement Live Your Legend, provided, and I am forever grateful for everything I learned from those courses. In this episode I am sharing with you an idea I have had for almost five years and why I think this is the time to do something about it. Set up your recording area with good lighting, minimalist background and good acoustics. Consider using a lapel mic to record -- as you can stand back and still have good sound quality. Boya By-MI Condenser Mic for Smart phones - this mighty mic is under $20 and does the job!(You'll find a list of great resources here - episode 21) Now, it's time to create a video that captures the event planner's attention. Consider these four opening tactics:Imagine -- use the word imagine to bring your audience into the message and to capture their attention. What if -- as a What If question to pose a thought provoking idea. This grabs the audience's attention and gets them wondering where you are heading. Question - Open with a question that gets the audience's attention. Story - no backstory, no set up, you launch directly into the story. Much like the imagine technique, using story as an opening brings the audience into the story with you. Below are links to some great openings -- study these and then craft the opening that fits your message and sets you up for success. Internet Business Mastery | Escape the 9-to-5. Make More Money. Start an Freedom Business, Now!

Not long ago I flew into San Francisco to mastermind with some heavy hitters. The group consisted of John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire, Greg Hickman from Mobile Mixed, And Rick Mulready from the Art of Paid Traffic (and our Facebook Ads guru) We rented a beautiful, modern, SanFran house next to some famous park (whose name I can't remember for the life of me) for a few days and got right to masterminding. Each person would get a turn presenting a problem we were having in our businesses and everyone else would talk about all the different solutions they could think up to fix the problem. Then, each person would share tips, secret resources, and big breakthroughs so we could all benefit from them. This went on all of the first day and then the evening was time to 'party' mastermind with a bunch of internet business people who live in San Francisco. There are a lot... The late, great Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend and Andrew Warner of Mixergy and a handful of other well-known influencers joined us at a crazy bar/mini-golf/burger joint. The second day was filled with insights and big breakthroughs, and we had a special guest in the afternoon. He lived only a few blocks from our secret mastermind lair. I didn't know Tim Ferriss was supposed to be joining us, but there was a knock at the door and he strolled in. Tims the author of Tools of titans and all the 4-hour books, like four our chef and four our body. I hadn't seen Tim in person since I first met him back in 2007 when he asked to be on my podcast to pitch a little ol' book called, The Four Hour Work Week. (I said no cause we already had a productivity guy, the book became huge, and of course I changed my mind. He did our show a couple months later from his bathroom while he was having a large birthday party at his house, but that's another story...) We spent the entire afternoon getting in-depth and personal with Tim, his business, and some of the investment opportunities he was currently looking into. This continued on throughout the night and into the next morning as Tim showed us around the thriving food and bar scene. The specifics of what is said in a mastermind is confidential and if you share them with others you'll never be invited again, but I can tell you one mindset shift I had from what Tim shared. He was playing at such a high level and had so many possibilities when it came to business that he had a very specific rule when it came to analyzing new ventures. Keep in mind, Tim is very public about being one of the first round of investors in Uber, so he is playing a different level than the rest of us. His rule was that the new venture had to make at least 10 million dollars a year for him to take the time to consider it. No joke, he had so many offers at that level, he wouldn't consider anything not in that realm. I was amazed to hear that, to say the least. What it made me do is shift my mindset to 10x everything I was considering. I had a goal to help 10,000 entrepreneurs get their freedom business started, which I hit, and I decided to 10x that to 100,000! I hadn't decided to do the Freedom Club yet, but it came from my commitment to take all my goals to 10x. That's what masterminds can do for you. Open your mind. Get fantastic advice. Know you're not alone. Help you solve a problem by having other like minds solve it with you. Mastermind groups are awesome. The Freedom Club wouldn't exist if I hadn't been pushed in my mastermind. They are so important I added a Mastermind Group to the Freedom Club membership! So, join us and mastermind with other like-minded, smart entrepreneurs right now: http://www.FreedomClubVIP.com I can’t wait to see you on the inside!

One of the first times I dreamt about building an online presence and connecting with others was 5 years ago, when I read about the passing of Scott Dinsmore the founder of Live Your Legend. It was James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, arguably the best book on habits you can read, who talked about Scott. In his post, James mentioned this phrase: ‘People just don't want to do this journey solo'. It has been in my head since then. And today, I want to inspire you with my story on how thinking about that has guided my journey and helped me, and how it can help yours, too.

Shownotes: http://fizzleshow.co/324 What are the ways that we entrepreneurs really want to be remembered? Why is it that we do the kind of work we do and reach out to the people around us? What is the ultimate role of our community and the connections we make? Here at Fizzle, we cannot stress the importance of community and communication enough. For us, it is the building block and the end goal of almost everything we do. In this episode, we are contemplating the place of community and connection in our more general roadmap for entrepreneurs. We are talking about the effect that friends can have on our personal success and the subtle and transformational role of the people around us over time. Chelsea Dinsmore is the owner and Chief of Community Happiness at Live Your Legend (LYL), a global community that helps people do meaningful work, make a living off something they love and are passionate about, and use their talents and strengths to give back to the world.  Live Your Legend focuses on the creation of in-person connections with like-minded living legends. The career and connection platform also aims to inspire and educate people so they can live their lives with purpose and find fulfilment and meaning in all they do. To date, they host in person meet ups monthly in over 260 cities across 65 countries.  Live Your Legend was founded by Chelsea’s late husband Scott Dinsmore. As Live Your Legend’s Chief Experimenter, he not only provided practical career tools, he also connected people worldwide and placed community at the center of their success. While the writer, traveler, entrepreneur, and TED speaker sadly passed away while on a year-long trek around the world, his legacy lives on through Chelsea and his strong community of doers and dreamers.    This week’s episode talks about the power of mindfulness and how it can help people design a life that suits them, why passion alone is not enough, and why writing and journaling is so powerful. Chelsea also shares her thoughts on external versus internal validation, what writing does for her, and how she got over her self-doubt. On mindfulness, Chelsea has this to say, “It’s not necessarily about sitting there and not thinking. It’s about managing your thoughts in a better way.”

How do you escape your 9-5 and successfully live out your life’s greatest passions? My name is Christian Rodwell and today I’m talking with Chelsea Dinsmore Live Your Legend hosts monthly in person meet-ups in over 250 cities in nearly 70 countries, focused on creating in-person connections with like-minded living legends. Chelsea is an Independent woman who loves to travel the world, cook great food, and be close to the Ocean, all whilst constantly learning more about herself and others. She has made it her mission to see that the vision of her late husband, Scott Dinsmore, the Founder of Live Your Legend, continues to shine brightly. I think you’re going to really appreciate Chelsea’s honest and authentic approach to finding the answers to those difficult questions which were often presented with when we embark upon this journey of self-development, so with that being said...let’s jump straight into my conversation with the owner of Live Your Legend, Chelsea Dinsmore. In this episode, you’ll learn The story behind the early beginnings of Live Your Legend The tragic circumstances that occurred during a round the world trip which changed the direction of Chelsea’s life in an instant The ‘Passion At Work’ framework that helps people to get closer to the question of ‘If money was no object, what work would you do?’ Why you shouldn’t beat yourself up if you can’t put your finger on your ‘passion’ immediately The secret ingredient that’s required to help you monetise your passion Why Chelsea believes it is important to align the seasons of your life and align them with your current stage you’re at The first step to changing your current situation is to believe that it’s possible Quotes: ‘When you show up in the World as an inspired, passionate and the best version of you, it really creates a lot of positivity around you’ ‘When you’re aligned you’re taking inspired action in the present moment, so it’s right, right now’ ‘When you follow your curiosity often it leads you to the things that you actually love and you enjoy doing’ ‘If your primary focus is on money, you’re going to find yourself feeling unfulfilled’ ‘For anything to change, you first have to believe that it’s possible’ ‘Inspiration is one thing, but if you’re not pairing that with action, you’re not going to get very far’   Links & Resources mentioned in this episode: Scott Dinsmore - TedX Talk ‘How To Find Work You Love’ Elizabeth Gilbert: Don't Chase Your Passion And Maybe You'll Find It | SuperSoul Sessions [video] Mark Manson Tony Robbins Brooke Castillo - The life coach School Podcast   Guest Details: Chelsea Dinsmore Live Your Legend Chelsea Dinsmore Instagram Chelsea Dinsmore Keynote Speech at the World Domination Summit 2016 Connect with Escape The Rat Race...within 12 months: Official Website Private Facebook Group Thanks so much for joining us this week. Scott's Live Your Legend blog and community reached hundreds of thousands around the world, and his excellent TEDx talk on finding and doing work you love has been watched nearly three million times. Scott deeply believed we could all change the world simply by doing work we love. Today's podcast episode is dedicated to Scott. Scott and Chelsea visited my wife and me in Mexico this winter as part of their trip. During the visit, Scott and recorded an interview for a new project he was working on. http://fizzleshow.co/94 - So many answers to current problems are in talking to your customers. That's why we make guides and courses on defining your target market one of the first orders of business here at Fizzle. And yet, it's a weapon even successful entrepreneurs forget to use. Recently Corbett and I helped Scott Dinsmore with the design of a new website. The first step for me in a project like this is to figure out the heart and soul of his business. So we sent Scott off to record some interviews. I wanted to hear it from the horses' mouths. In all honesty, he set out on that task dragging his feet. *"What should I say? What do we need to get out of these?"* I gave him some guidance and forced him to dive in. When he did, when he started hearing the stories of his audience members he got hooked: > "These conversations you made me have were probably the single most important thing I did last year!" We're huge fans of talking to customers to get your next big idea or figure out how to better execute your current plan. In this episode we talk about a specific way to hear from your customers: surveys. We've conducted a massive NPS survey with our customers recently and we wanted to share how to do something like this with your own audience. Enjoy!

One awesome way to add value: Scott shares. The Ben Franklin Effect: what is it and how can you use it? Why to never accept the first salary offer you receive. The 3-second Rule that applies to every area of your life. And so much more... You've probably heard the idea that you become the sum of your five closest friends, it's something we've talked about on the show before. So what do you do if you want to change those five closest friends and you want to create new friends to become the sum of? Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend is here to answer those questions and more. Today we talk about how to reach out and connect with the greatest influencers in your life, and how to set the stage for potential friendships and real connection. Join us for the 342nd edition of The Art of Charm. More About This Show: As the founder of Live Your Legend (LYL) and Ted Talk presenter, Scott knows a few things about helping people find and express who they really are in the world. One of the keys to doing that, he's found, is connecting with the right people and surrounding yourself with your greatest allies. Originally LYL started out as career/business tools-type company but as Scott says in this episode, all the best tools in the world aren't going to do a thing for you if your friends are telling you're an idiot for using those tools. So he shifted gears and changed the focus of his organization. On today's show he shares the best practices for connecting and creating friendships with people you admire and people who are going to bring out the best in you. If you don't have those kinds of people in your life right now and you want to expand your social circle, Scott has advice for you. His first suggestion may seem counterintuitive, he says to not go to a networking event. Instead, take a look at the people in your life right now and see who you admire and inspires you, and then find someone who brings you down. This next week choice to trade out time with the energy vampire for the person you admire. If that person you admire is someone you know personally invite them to get together. Find some way to add value to them, obviously it's easier if they are already your friend you can simply ask them. But if you don't know them yet, do your research and find out what they may need help with right now. Always remember you do have something to offer to other people, even those who seem to have everything, you simply may have to find a creative way to help. It may be as simple as sharing with them what you're good at and then asking how you can apply your talents to help them. If you feel nervous about talking with them or initiating contact simply imagine they are your best friend, and you just haven't chatted yet. Scott gives us a great example of how he did this when a well-known blogger moved to his area. The blogger invited about 50 people to meet up and chat when he settled in. Scott knew he'd only have a minute or two to chat with the blogger, who had been very influential for him, so he wanted to make it count. Scott knew the blogger and his wife were vegans and he also knew the blogger was an avid runner. So he compiled a list of vegan restaurants in the area and a list of the best local running trails. He chatted with the blogger, thanked the man for being such an influence in his life and then handed him the suggestions he'd gathered. The blogger was so touched he invited Scott out for a run, that run led to the two becoming friends and running an ultra-marathon together. Whether or not you meet your new BFF this way, you can still apply the same principles. Find someone you admire and want to connect with, find out a need they have and find a way to fill it. They'll remember you, and will be very willing to interact with you in the future. Naturally there's plenty more in this episode with Scott so check it out to get the full scoop! Today’s guest bills himself as an entrepreneur and an explorer, and is definitely a man after my own heart. As such, Scott Dinsmore is the guy behind Live Your Legend, a revolution of people out to change the world by doing work they love. On there, Scott talks about finding the work that makes you come alive — as well as adventure and exploration of both the world, and the day-to-day. In other words, he’s out to help you solve the problem of feeling stuck in the dull nagging ache of routine. Back in May, on the cusp of a trip to Greece with his wife and friends, he wrote an article called Train Yourself for Everyday Adventure — and it was exactly in tune with this show, and my own personal beliefs about the effects of travel and their value to the individual and society. I also want to tap into Scott’s expertise to help anyone listening here, interested in or setting out to build a life of travel — about how to get started or identify that they’re on the right track. Regardless of where you live, and what political system you find yourself working under, oftentimes, we find ourselves enslaved to a job we hate.  This week, in honor of the United States’ celebration of Labor Day,  we discuss some thoughts about how to find the work you love.  I’ll give 5 key action steps you can use to move yourself into living your very own “Labor of Love.” Key Ideas: What do you LOVE to do? What do other people tell you you are very good at doing? (You get a ton of positive feedback when you do this thing). What business opportunities could you find around this thing you love. (Get creative here and solicit ideas from others). Figure out some baby steps for getting started. Start doing more of what you love – for free.  Do it anywhere and everywhere you can no matter how much money you are making.  Proof of concept will come as more people realize you do this and they will ask you for it more and more.  Once you are really, really good at what you are doing, the money will follow. Resource: www.liveyourlegend.net – Scott Dinsmore. Scott has build his life work around helping others discover and live the the work they were born to do.  His website has tons of free resources and ideas to help you find your “what”.  I think you’ll love his passion and heart for helping. Encouraging Words of the week: Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as unto the Lord and not for men.”   The post #020: Finding Your Labor of Love (Podcast) appeared first on Christy Largent.

05 The Biggest and Worst Kept Secret to Transforming Your Life and Business

The Biggest and Worst Kept Secret to transforming your life   On today’s solo episode of Second Half Comeback I talk about the single strategy that has transformed my business and my life.   I’ve begun surrounding myself with extraordinary, like minded people.   I know. It’s not exactly ground breaking advice is it? We’ve all heard this advice a million times including the now famous quote from Jim Rohn:   “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”   But I think many of us understand the concept yet fail to execute it because it seems like such a daunting challenge. The idea of eliminating “negative” people from our lives seems big and dramatic. The idea of “networking” with strangers seems intimidating and uncomfortable.   I understood the concept but failed to execute it consistently in my own life.   Until I took Scott Dinsmore’s Connect with Anyone course. Scott had an amazing concept and quote that changed my mindset forever. He called it “Brain Washing the Impossible” and his quote changed my life:   “The fastest way to do something that you don’t think is possible is to spend time around people who are already doing it”   Boom!   Come on, that’s good shit!   It made me realize that a big part of this concept is just about being around people who are doing the things that you want to do. This is important for a number of reasons. The most obvious is that it gives you a team, a tribe, to work with towards a common interest and goal. You can help and support each other. Promote each other. Learn from each other, etc. This is huge and can have a major impact on your life.   But the often overlooked reason that this will change your life is that:   Surrounding yourself with people who are already doing what you dream of doing shows you that it is possible and this changes everything!   So in this episode I talk a little about my early and long struggles of starting a business and changing my life. I explain how I progressed from seeking information to seeking community.   I finally learned the value of community, connections and relationships with extraordinary like minded people and I started joining various online groups, masterminds and communities. I also started attending live, in person conferences.   This is where I discovered the “Secret Sauce”  to transforming your life and business.   I learned that making connections and building relationships online and then cementing and growing those relationships through face to face shared experiences at conferences and meet-ups is an absolute game changer.   This single strategy will change your life.   Relationships are built and strengthened on shared experiences   So I hope you enjoy the episode and in the next episode I will give you my best tips and actionable advice on how to execute and maximize this strategy.   The Action Step for this episode is for you to brainstorm and research online communities, masterminds and groups related to the area of your Second Half Comeback. Look for FaceBook groups, forums, blogs etc.   Then look for opportunities to meet these groups in person such as at conferences, retreats, meet-ups etc and then take action! Reach out. Join a group. Join a paid community. Go to a meetup. Finally, You've found a community of like minded, extraordinary people right here at Second Half Comeback. Join our team by signing up for the email list and we'll take this journey together. Just look on the sidebar of the blog and sign up right now. Awesome!   “Start spending time around people who are already doing what you dream of doing and your life will immediately change for the better.   Here are the links, conferences and courses mentioned in this episode:   Scott Dinsmore’s http://liveyourlegend.net/   http://howtoconnectwithanyone.com/joinus/early-access/   http://fizzle.co/   http://www.entrepreneuronfire.com/podcastersparadise/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=podcastersparadise   Worhttp://worlddominationsummit.com/   New Media Expo: http://nmxlive.com/2014-lv/
