Everyone knows we love "firsts" on the No Outlet podcast and I am happy to say that we have another first! We've had doctors, authors, scientists, comedians, actors, improv artists, animal activists, teachers, Hemp and Cannabis pioneers etc.... However, we have never (until now) had a Mixed Martial Artist on the show. This is not just any Mixed Martial artist as Devin is also a BJJ Black Belt, was the #1 ranked fight in the northeast, a contracted fighter with the UFC & Belator, NEF title holder and he owns an amazing Gym in beautiful Somersworth NH. I have been a fan of this guy for years and I have wanted to have him on the show and it was worth the wait! We talked about how he got into the sport, his time in the UFC, some war stories/injuries (ruptured testicle anyone), his other passion of guitar playing, the art of loving cars without really knowing anything about them, the being of NOSTOS, he gives some props to some of his top students/fighters, the nightmare of losing site in one eye while relying on a "Gas Station Hospital" in a foreign country (FUN!), he confirms the existence of interdimensional beings (I think), he provides his Mount Rushmore of MMA fighters, talks about Carlos Condit staying at this house, the joy of re-watching TV shows, the stark reality of fighter pay in MMA, the challenges of being a parent and the importance of the upcoming Blink-182 reunion among many other topics. I'm Janie Porter. I'm a life coach and writer, and 15 months ago, I decided to take a break from drinking. Being a Father is a huge responsibility and can often be thankless. In fact, sometimes the best decisions you make as a father are the ones your children dislike the most. Its complicated, challenging and yet, sometimes, extremely rewarding and certainly impactful. This episode of the No Outlet podcast is a way to say "Happy Father's Day" to all Dad's but specifically my Father with some stories from my youth, a special appearance from Ima Dill...and maybe one other guest to discuss another incredible dad as well. Who you ask? Well, you will need to listen to find out! Again, happy Fathers day Dad and to all the dads out there, enjoy your day!#Fathersday #friedclams #lifelessons #dads #humor #music #cancersurvivor #believeinyourself #neverquit #dotherightthing #thankyou #appreciation #nye #RyeNH #bestdad #homeworkhour #ontime #hardwork #responsibility #bobdylan #leadbyexample #havefun #relax
Another first on the No Outlet podcast! Had a guest cancel for the first time and instead of missing a week, we tried something new...a TV show watch along to an episode of the Bill Hader Dark Comedy "Barry"! Spoiler Alert...if you have not watched the first 2/5 seasons this watch along may ruin...then again, it may not? Barry follows Barry Berkman, a discharged Marine from Cleveland, who works as a hitman. Lonely and dissatisfied with life, he travels to Los Angeles to kill a target and finds a new sense of purpose when he joins a class full of aspiring actors. Despite his efforts to leave behind his criminal history and become an actor himself, he struggles to escape his dark past. It was created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader and premiered on HBO on March 25, 2018...if you like "Fargo" and the comedy of Bill Hader I highly recommend. Great cast including Stephan Root, Anthony Carrigan, Sarah Goldberg and THE FONZ Henry Winkler among many other talented actors. The show has received critical acclaim, with most praise going to its directing, writing, originality, humor, characters, and performances (particularly Hader's). The series has received various accolades, including 30 Primetime Emmy Award nominations; in fact, Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series twice, and The Fonz won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. For the second season, Winkler, Root, and Carrigan all received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor, while Goldberg received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The show has been nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. So, find the 6th Episode of the 3rd season and listen to some commentary and random thoughts! #Barry #HBO #BillHader #TheFonz #Henrywinkler #NOHOHANK #Blackcomedy #Stephanroot #SNL #SNLALUM #Hollywood
Another first on the No Outlet podcast? Yes it is! Not my idea but I usually like her ideas so I thought...why not? You know what....it was actually really fun and she did a great job. We talked about a bunch of stuff and had a good time. Hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
Actual talent on the No Outlet podcast folks! Sebastian Conelli, host of the "Loud about nothing" podcast was kind enough to answer 20 questions with me and I think we solved a lot of problems! We determined where the best Pizza in NY is, Confirmed that aliens live among us (he may or may not be Annunaki), concluded that comedy doesn't age well...and that's ok, talked about hummingbirds #bestpets, opined on the best rapper of all time (depends), agreed that DXL is closer to "a store" than porn is to "a movie", disagreed about what % of people really use gym memberships, and shit all over Pat Sayjack for his terrible attitude lately among several other topics. Check out his podcast "Loud about nothing" and watch his improv wizardry every Sunday with Ratscraps...he is a very funny human and great guy. Thank you for coming on the show, I hope you all enjoyed the conversation as much as we did!
George's pandemic road trip was the genesis of Season 1. We thought it would be fun and informative for us to get together in George's dining room and share some of our plans for the coming season. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did and please join us for more travels in America's unplugged country.
No big deal, just the person who was part of the largest animal rescue in history, right here on the No Outlet podcast! Plus, it's another first for the show, the first person who has given a Real Ted Talk AND the first animal expert on the show. We met right before Covid really messed things up in an improv class that started off as a in person class and was converted to an Online class. I remember her being smart and funny and I knew she was into Penguins, but I DID NOT realize the was THE Penguin lady. But I know now, and was very fortunate to have her on the show...the one and only penguin lady Dyan deNapoli! We talked about reincarnation (its real), saving 40,000 penguins (obvi), going to Antarctica several times, the unfair characterization of Penguins in Batman comics (people remember), Brutal Mating rituals of Penguins, getting attacked by a penguin that you are trying to save, the catchy New England Aquarium TV spot and many other topics...some not even about Penguins! In all sincerity, the devotion that she has to helping this animal is really special and I would highly recommend that you check out her website: https://thepenguinlady.com/ she was a great guest and I really appreciate her joining the program. I hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
Dr. George Wood is an educator, a former school administrator, a writer, and a podcaster. He also is a resident of small town Amesville, Ohio. Just before the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, he retired from a lifetime in education, and he found himself restless and looking for something meaningful to do. After conversations with his wife, he took off on a two-month 7,500 trip through the Midwest. He started his journey as a trout fishing trip but ended up spending much more time talking to people in the small towns that he visited. He had two rules…he would not eat in a national chain restaurant and he would avoid driving on Interstates as much as possible. Therefore, he spent his time on the backroads of the Midwest, eating in small town diners, and talking with fascinating people. At night, he would go back to his small travel trailer and write about the conversations that he had and about the pride people took in their hometowns. When he meandered back to Ohio, he started writing stories about these small forgotten towns and the interesting people who inhabit them. He joined with two colleagues and turned the stories into a new podcast called “Positively No Outlet.” He describes the podcast as: “Stories from Unplugged America - Our goal is to bring you stories from rural America — from the fly-over places that are far from the hot light of the national media. Stories of ordinary people doing ordinary and sometimes extraordinary things.” Dr. Wood has now embarked on more trips. This time to the South. He hopes to continue his small-town storytelling and even expanding his podcast’s breadth. Currently, you may find “Positively No Outlet” on one of your favorites podcast outlets.
People let me tell you about my Aunt Dawn, she's really cool! Another record for No Outlet...the eldest member of the Jule Family answers 20 questions and answers them with honesty and flair! We talk about the joys of growing up next to a Lumber Yard, The Rye Junior High School song, Scary teachers, inadvertently giving Grandmother Marijuana Brownies, joining the armed forces for a very specific reason, the timeless beauty of the big band sound, Spirits in the material world and one very specific way to ensure that you can get out of a Hammock among many other topics! I have been blessed with an amazing family and, more specifically, very cool and interesting Aunts and Uncles…Aunt Dawn is a living personification of that fact. I encourage everyone to incorporate her positive attitude into your life. Dawn is always laughing and in a good mood no matter what life throws her way. Thank you very much for being on the podcast Aunt Dawn, I hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

What a team! What a Team! A first for the No Outlet podcast...the first dual interview and what an interview it was! Paul and Jean have been married for 53 years and are such amazing people. Warm, funny, smart and always up for a laugh...hit the pay button for proof! We talked about Booze, Bad Boat Names, Teaching 30,000 kids about manners/how to ballroom dance, Hummer & Strummer, choosing Sudbury, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and taking young children to Tijuana among many other topics! They made it easy for me and were very forthright and direct with their answers all while laughing at the absurdity of the situation. In all seriousness, they are really special people and I think we can all learn something from how they have raised their family and how they live their life...Bon Vivant! Paul and Jean - Thank you so much for being on the show! I hope everyone who listens enjoys the conversation as much as we did!
This guy is truly one of a kind...a renaissance man for the 21st century. Erik Klinger has never really cared what anyone thought about what he liked or what he did...he just found what made him happy and did it. Something that is really missing in todays world...we need more Klingers! Wait, not sure about that but I have really enjoyed being his friend for the past 40 years. We discuss quantum physics, the free market, pot edibles, East Coast vs West Coast, Skiing, Drinking too much at an early age and his very understanding parents among several other topics. His willingness to honestly and fearlessly state his strong opinion is what I was hoping for and he did not disappoint! Thank you Mr. Klinger for being on the No Outlet podcast and I look forward to seeing you again...this coast or the other! Hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as we did!

Louis Virtel is a comedian and a co-host of the podcast Keep It. He’s also the winner of Jeopardy, whose Double Jeopardy celebration went viral shortly after it aired on TV. Laraine Newman returns to Go Fact Yourself, this time as a contestant. Newman is best known as an original cast member of the Not Ready for Primetime Players on Saturday Night Live, and she was a founding member of the legendary Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles. If she sounds familiar to you, you may recognize her as the voice of Crab Lady on Sponge Bob Square Pants, Nana from Trollhunters: Tale of Arcadia and lots of other shows. In this episode, we’ll learn how Louis’s love of publicly answering trivia questions stems from a 3rd-grade spelling bee that he came up short in and why the winners of Jeopardy love keeping in touch with each other after their victories. Laraine will explain why she never tires of hearing people announce her name in the fashion of SNL’s Don Pardo, and how she decides what the voice of each of her characters sound like. What’s the difference? What’s the difference between a “thumbs up” sign and the “okay” sign in SCUBA diving? What’s the difference between a “Dead-End” and a “No-Outlet” on the road? Areas of Expertise Louis Virtel: Jeopardy, world capitals, and Aimee Mann. Nick Vatterott phones it in and talks to Matt about his sadness, what not to do when pulled over, and unoriginal originality.
As a stand-up, improviser and sketch writer, comedian Nick Vatterott is a triple threat. And a triple treat! His stand-up has been featured on Jimmy Fallon and in the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. He's understudied for Second City, and his sketch group HEAVYWEIGHT (including Cloverfield's TJ Miller) has performed all around the country. Nick's also performed his one man show No Outlet at the iO Theater, the Chicago Sketchfest and the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. A few weeks ago, Nick came over to the Wrestling Team apartment to discuss acting out in class, Jesuits, “Crimson and Clover”, missing milk jugs, pillows as mnemonic devices, boat tours, Sliding Doors, getting out of Chicago, and all-you-can-eat sushi. Plus, we debut our new segment “Creative Rituals”!
Chris and Danny start the show off by talking about how Chris has spent the past week in the Catskills at a family owned bungalow with the ‘fake Iaconos.’ There he put up sheetrock and did other manual labor, but do not worry he also shot some guns. Danny spoke briefly about the quarrel he had earlier in the week with Warren. It was proposed that if Warren is up to it they will reconcile and talk through their differences during a show. The 1st guest of the day was Nick Vatterott. He spoke briefly about his one-man show, “No Outlet” yet the conversation moved quickly to racist rapists. In walks Yamaneika Saunders the female co-host of this episode....on black people time. We learn very quickly that she’s extremely spiritual which will be repetitively brought up throughout the show. Faryn Einhorn is our 2nd guest who is a member of the Harvard Sailing Team. Faryn makes quite clear that their sketch group is not from Harvard nor do they sail. Faryn and Yamaneika hit it off well; Danny suggests that they shoot a comedy buddy film about the two of them going to a burger place. Next Adam Newman joins the show where the talk immediately jumps to his puns and clear tweets to celebrities...that go unanswered. Yamaneika loves to suck on onions and thinks Adam is ‘delicious.’ The last guest of the day is Andy de la Tour. His English accent practically swoons Yamaneika because of her love of the movie Mary Poppins. He tells a story of how Robin Williams stole his thunder at a comedy club in the UK many moons ago.
