In Episode 100, The Occupational Philosophers chat with Julie Trell, whose career has been an adventurous journey spanning three decades and various corners of the world. She started as an inner-city classroom teacher and later became a middle school technology specialist, where she embraced inner playfulness (as well as fixing - and breaking - the computers and network).  Through serendipity and curiosity, she evolved into the VP of All Things Fun, Meaningful, & Rewarding at a (then) startup called Salesforce.  Her path then took her through the vibrant landscapes of Atlanta, San Francisco, Singapore, and Sydney, venturing into the realms of technology and corporate foundation leadership with the Salesforce and Workday Foundations. In Australia, she led Telstra's corporate startup accelerator, muru-D - There she managed a team and a portfolio of over 140 companies, focusing on supporting the founders across various cohorts.    As the Chief Play Officer of Playful Purpose, she embraces the power of an improv mindset to foster growth and playful spirits among adults. She co-designs and facilitates dynamic workshops for accelerators, portfolio funds, and corporate teams, helping participants unleash curiosity, build confidence, and deepen their understanding of DEI and empathy. Margaret Maria is a wonderful cellist who's a unique composer. Her compositions are all written by layering cello lines in some gorgeous and emotive aural tapestries. Her personal story is interesting and moving: she started the cello as a teenager, was admitted to the University of Toronto at age 16 without graduating from high school, and was then admitted to the prestigious Curtis Institute. She went on to have a successful career as a member of the Vancouver Symphony and then Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra, which is how I came to know her. She gave up her job with the NAC after a few years, and embarked on a new life as a composer, meanwhile continuing to teach. Some of her work as an educator has been with the Orkidstra program, which she has been involved with since it's inception in 2007. It's a social development program that serves over 650 youth from over 62 linguistic and cultural backgrounds by building community through free music programs. How do we step boldly into the truth of who we are to heal the past and create ourselves, our lives, our art, our offerings and our relationships from fresh, authentic vibrancy? In today's episode, Bonita Oliver shares on the trials and traumas of her life that launched her into alignment with her destiny as a working artist, mother, and spiritual guide. Bonita reflects on her awakening into owning her artistry, while also feeling into the inspiration of society's wake up call in this potent moment in our collective history. An inspiring, challenging and vulnerable conversation with friends reconnecting after decades. About Bonita Oliver: Bonita Oliver utilizes multiple mediums as a performance artist and improviser. Her work is about transitions- the process of moving through. Bonita creates deeply emotional, body in space, concept art through voice, music, environmental soundscapes and movement. The motivation is to heal personal and ancestral trauma in order to make way for discovery and connection. The mission is to engage community through ritual, co creation, education and activism. Her process is in the moment and responds to stimuli – be it internal or external -through embodiment and interaction. Her live works exhibit this process in real time. Bonita (who also performs under the name of French Leave) is originally from Springfield, Massachusetts. She was a mentee of cultural influencer and historian, Lujuana Hood and is now a member of the board for PAHMUSA, the museum Ms Hood founded.
