In 1995, one of Saturday Night Live's most prominent cast members left the show. A year later in 1996 Dana Carvey pitched his own sketch comedy show, after truning down David Letterman's late show hosting gig. ABC ordered 10 episodes and gave it a primetime televsion slot airing immediately after 90's juggernaut Home Improvement. The network had high hopes for the SNL alumn, but soon learned when you give comedians free reign, it's not always the most family friendy product. We discuss the history of the show, it's downfall and it's incredible staff of writers and performers which included Robert Smigel, Charlie Kaufman, Louis C.K., Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert and more! Then we break down sketch by sketch the series' 6th episode. It's a wild and fun ride on this week's Notable Nostalgia!Find us and other things we are up to, including links to our social pages, at www.bigdoorprize.com

Episode 285 of the Transatlantic Cable kicks off with yet more news around A.I and the ever-interesting topic of ChatGPT. However, this time, the discussion starts with regulation and the CTO of Open AI believes that it's inevitable. Moving from that to a more quirky story, still involving A.I however: a small team have used AI to create a never-ending Seinfield episode, streaming over on Twitch – sadly at the time of writing, it appears to have been shut down, but it still raises interesting questions around content creation, human creativity and what A.I will bring (or take away) from the table. Moving away from A.I to more cyber-security related news – the team discuss the closure of Exclu, an encrypted mobile phone company that enabled criminals to chat without fear of snooping, however the Dutch police were already inside the systems. To wrap up, the team talk about a recent story around the FBI's changing approach to ransomware, with the recent Hive takedown. Remember "The Bubble Boy," the episode of Seinfield from season four? In it, George is taunted by a cantankerous boy who must spend life inside a protective shield because of his disease. It's funny. However, the actual disease is not. Alexis takes away one of our remaining joys in life by sharing the story of the real "Bubble Boy." Then, on to our book... Deathly allergic to everything on earth, Maddy must spend her life inside her home with only her mother and nurse for company. She passes the time with surprising optimism, reading books, watching movies, and playing games. But when a new family moves in next door with their teenage son Olly, Maddy learns something about herself that tears her world apart and nearly destroys herself and everyone she knows. The book is Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon. LET'S GET LIT! On this episode of Talking Like A Teen, unlike previous ones, this one is about…nothing. Like a Seinfield episode, I guess? Only with less New York references. If you ever wondered what a casual non-podcast conversation between the two of us sounds like, here it is, in its mildly edited glory. It's two elder millennials having a couple of adult beverages, decompressing from the bowels of living in this late-stage capitalist hellscape by talking about stuff like concerts, Beach House, and greasy Chinese food. So….yeah. Sorry. Not all of the episodes are as easy to sum up as the ones about Power Rangers movies, amirite? But it's still a good time, promise. I should make another Seinfield reference to tie this bad boy up. Um….something something puffy shirt. There. Nailed it.

Over here we don't bump uglies, we bump energies. We're breaking down how our culture defines sex. What is it? How do we name it? And how do our articulations of sex affect the type of sex we have? We also talk about the infamous Oscar slap, Jerrod Carmichael's “Rothaniel” special, and the newest season of Atlanta.
