Christopher Nolan loves playing with time in his films like Memento, Inception, and Tenet and telling stories about the push and pull between family and duty. For his follow-up to The Dark Knight Rises, Nolan plays with both big ideas in a story about a future where mankind's only hope rests among the stars, and a father who must leave his children behind to venture to a new galaxy. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Michael Caine, this 2014 film was a runaway success and the tenth-highest grossing film of the year. The film also garnered praise from astronomers for its scientific accuracy and portrayal of theoretical astrophysics. Now we're taking to the stars for our final trip this Chronovember with a film that's truly Interstellar!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Doctor Who first hit the airwaves in 1963 - sixty years ago! - but the TARDIS went dark in 1989 for an indefinite hiatus. In the mid-1990s, plans started brew to import the iconic British sci-fi series across the pond to America. The BBC partnered with the Fox network to produce a TV movie, which, if it performed well, could serve as the backdoor pilot for a revived series. English actor Paul McGann took over the TARDIS console as the Eighth Doctor after Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor was *checks notes* brutally gunned down by a machine-gun wielding street gang on prime-time television. Co-starring American actress Daphne Ashbrook as the doctor who tries to save him (see what I did there?) with Eric Roberts hot on their heels as The Master. Unfortunately, the special presentation was not a success, and the good Doctor remained in exile until regenerating in 2005 as Christopher Eccleston. But this is Chronovember, so we're whipping out our sonic screwdrivers and partying like it's 1999!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. After lengthy delays due to director turnover, the pandemic, studio shake-ups, and behind-the-scenes drama featuring its lead actor, DC Comics' Scarlet Speedster finally raced onto movie screens this past summer. Director Andy Muscetti helmed the pic, staring Ezra Miller as a Barry Allen who goes back in time to meet another Barry Allen, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ben Affleck as Batman and also bringing Michael Keaton back as Batman. Despite bringing back your Dad's Batman and boasting a multiverse of meta-references, the film failed to find success in the Father's Day frame and fizzled out, making less than its production budget at the domestic box office. This all but sealed the fate of the DCEU, with James Gunn taking the reins. But don't despair! We're reuniting the crew from Crimson Comet with Haley, Rum Daddy, and Jonolobster joining to talk about The Flash one last time. We're not ready to leave Halloween behind, so we're kicking off the month with a comedy-horror classic courtesy of Sam Raimi. After spending not one but two sylvan getaways battling Deadites courtesy of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis (in The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn), S-Mart employee Ash Williams takes the ultimate unplugged vacation all the way back to the year 1300 in Medieval England. Up against time with an army of Deadites storming the castle, Ash must overcome the lack of technology and his own evil twin to get back to the future. Starring Bruce Campbell, the film was neither a commercial nor critical success, but has gone on to join the first two films as cult favorites. Legends of Halloween draws to a close with a classic from the master of twists, M. Night Shyamalan himself! An isolated 19th century village is surrounded by mysterious woods filled with threatening creatures, but when a terrible crime is committed, a young woman uncovers the village's dark secret. Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, and Brendan Gleeson, Shymalan's third film since his breakout hit The Sixth Sense was a box office success but disappointed critics, with Roger Ebert placing it on his "Most Hated" list. We're blowing into the cartridge and pressing start on the second-biggest movie of 2023 to date! Based on several long-running video games series from Nintendo, this animated movie brings together the voice talents of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day the titular brothers, with Anya-Taylor Joy as the princess, Seth Rogan and Keegan-Michael Key as their allies, and Jack Black as the bad guy. Produced by Illumination, the studio behind the Despicable Me and Minions movies, the film super-smashed box office records to become the highest-grossing video game movie and the third highest-grossing animated movie of all time. While audiences clearly felt the Nintendo Power, critics were largely underwhelmed, citing the film as yet another rote exercise in brand expansion. Now your very own Super Podcast Bros. We're getting back to our regular programming with a special request from one of our listeners! Following our episode on The Road, listener Jeff shared his  recommendation for another post-apocalyptic movie. According to Jeff, “It's an old one, but it still checks out.” Released in 1977, the same year as Star Wars, and two years before Mad Max, this “road movie” see a small group of survivors of World War 3 attempt to drive across the desolate wasteland to where they hope more survivors are living, facing freakish mutated insects and other dangers along the way. Starring Jan-Michael Vincent, George Peppard, Paul Winfield, and very young Jackie Earle Haley, based on the novel by Roger Zelazny, and directed by George Smight, the movie was, to put it kindly, a flop, despite being released in the new “Sound 360” surround format. But it has earned a cult following in the years since, with Jeff among its devotees, thanks in part to the true star of the film: the wasteland-crawling armored RV called The Landmaster, designed by Dean Jeffries. As Jeff writes, “One of my favorite movies growing up - for the vehicle alone - was Damnation Alley. I'd love to hear Legends take on it.” And take it on we shall! Based on Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this post-apocalyptic “road movie” pairs Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as father and son traversing a hostile landscape. Co-starring Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Michael K. Williams, Garrett Dillahunt, and Guy Pearce - in about one scene each - the film presents a stark and desolate landscape ravaged by a civilization-ending calamity. (And no wonder - they shot it in Pittsburgh!) Following McCarthy's passing last month at age 89, we're hitting The Road to see how the pic based on an Oprah's Book Club pick holds up.   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. For much of her childhood, Karen and Barry Mason kept the nature of their business a secret from Rachel and her brothers, but the children later learned that their mother and father's stores were at the center of gay culture in L.A. In a true story that spans the struggle for gay rights, the porn industry, the AIDS crisis, the moral panic of the 1980s, and the effects of the internet on brick-and-mortar establishments. Along the way, Mason uncovered her mother's connection to Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, her father's near arrest on federal felony charges, her brother's harrowing coming-out story, and the importance of her parents' store to the development of gay life in L.A. Based on a true story - sort of - this Elizabeth Banks-directed film bit off a chunk of the box office earlier this year. In the style of Snakes on a Plane and Sharknado, its absurd title promised campy animal chaos that audiences needed to see to believe. When a drug smuggler dumps kilos of Columbian cocaine on Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia, a bear then snorts the coke and goes on a bloody bender. Starring Keri Russell, Ray Liota, Margo Martindale, Isaiah Whitlock Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Alden Ehrenreich, O'Shea Jackson, some kids and a CGI black bear, the film packs in scares, gags, and gore into 90-minutes of drug-fueled ursine rampage. When the movie is called Cocaine Bear, you have to wonder if it's up to snuff or simply unbearable to watch.    For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Written by two Marvel Comics authors, with less gore and more humor than the original, director Richard Fliescher stepping in for Millius, and creature effects by Carlo Rambaldi, the film was less financially successful than the first, perhaps overshadowed by Schwarzenegger's true breakout role in another film released the same year: The Terminator. The result was a cult classic, recently inducted into the Criterion Collection, starring Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, and John Heard. Because we know it's not what moves through the sky you have to worry about… it's what stays still… NOPE!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Legends Podcast #613; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe concluded last year with the release of Ryan Coogler's follow-up to 2018's Black Panther. Following the unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 from colon cancer, Marvel chose not to recast the role, instead allowing the mantle to pass, in the film, to a new Black Panther, as had happened many times before in the comics. Marvel did not, however, advertise who the new Black Panther would be prior to the film's release. For the sequel, a new threat is introduced in the form of Namor, the Sub-Mariner, of the underwater realm of Atlantis. It's better down where it's wetter, so we're rallying to the battle cry of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Legends Podcast #612; Most Dangerous Game (2020/2)

We're ending the Most Dangerous Month where it began, with a remake of the 1932 classic based on the 1924 short story reimagined as a TV show released in short episodes on a steaming app in 2020, and then on another streaming service in 2021 when the first streaming service went bankrupt, and finally re-edited as a movie and released on a third streaming service in 2022. Look, we told you this month was dangerous! Longtime listeners will remember Hashtag #QuibiSucks, when we covered the rise and fall of the Jeffrey Katzenberg-backed steaming experiment in short-form television. After Quibi went under, Roku purchased and repurposed many shows from the Quibi library on their platform, including this one starring Liam Hemworth and Christoph Waltz. Now renewed for a second season, Amazon Prime has also released a movie-length compilation of the series - and that's what we watched, because this a movie podcast. No matter how it started, we're going to finish it. Legends Podcast #611; The Hunt (2020)

We're continuing the Most Dangerous Month with another movie with a controversial history. From director Craig Zobel and horror producer Jason Blum, this politically charged take on the human hunting genre was pulled from release after two high profile mass shootings. In the meantime, it became a cause célèbre over its alleged portrayal of a certain red-hat wearing demographic. Ultimately, the film was released in theaters on Friday the Thirteenth - of March 2020: the very week the Covid-19 pandemic shut down every movie theater in the country. Three days later, the film was released on PVOD, and no one paid any attention because they were too busy hoarding toilet paper. Now we're checking out The Hunt to see if it's really as deplorable as people said it was on Twitter.   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. We're continuing the Most Dangerous Month with a British invasion and the film formerly known as Boyz in the Wood. The debut film from music video director Ninian Doff tells the tale of four boys from the mean streets of Glasgow on a Duke of Edinburgh Award wilderness trip to the highlands of Scotland. When they find themselves being hunted, possibly by the Duke himself, they'll have to work together to survive. The movie premiered at SXSW where it won the Midnighters Audience Award  and was picked up by Amazon for release exclusively on the Prime Video streaming service in 2020. Now we're heading for the Highlands to Get Duked!    For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Please subscribe and give us a positive review.
